lol i remember trying to set up a scope as kid ......it was about three foot off target an took the widow out of my dads garden with a shed BSA meteor , lol 45 years later i can still here him shouting! ... wouldn't have been so bad if he wasnt in the shed at the time! 😂😂😂
I'm not new to airguns, in my earlier years, Springers, but recently bought online, my first PCP, a BSA Ultra CLX .177. It came fitted with a FREE scope, a Hawke Eclipse, but out of the box, the gun was shooting 7 inches right and 2 inches high, at 10 yds. This was in my back garden limited to 25 yds. I could get the height down OK, but was unable to move the cross hairs far enough left onto the targets center. After going through all the resetting procedure, from the Hawke website, the scope would not adjust enough left before running out of adjustment. I bought a new Hawke Vantage IR 4-12X50, and, from watching one of your other videos, a set of BKL mounts. After fitting the new scope and mounts, I easily set the gun up to hit the middle of the target at 20 yds. At age 87, my eyesight is not good, so I am quite pleased with the results. I just wanted to say how much I enjoy watching your excellent videos, I wish I had found them earlier, before I bought my first PCP.
Also don’t forget to order a 2.5mm x 10 trigger adjuster screw for the gx40 to get a lighter trigger pull on the second stage, don’t forget to bang the but end of the gun to make sure it doesn’t go off when cocked my gx40 trigger is great now. If you want to add a bipod to the gx40 remove the action and there’s already a small tube to drill down from the inside of the stock I used a 4mm drill bit but check your particular swivel stud.
Thanks for the Highlighted Comment Andy. I'm Picking up my Edgun Leshiy Tomorrow, I cannot wait !! I'm 32 and I know I'm getting ZERO Sleep tonight Haha. I have to say i love your info vids. Im a secretary of a gun club and often share them to our public page as they are so informative. Please carry on with them
What to say? Absolutely the best guide for beginners like me who want to approach this world. So much information which looks obvious but I'm sure that if I didn't follow the instructions provided in this video, I would have made a mess. Thanks for your clarity and accuracy. I'm your new follower!!!!!
I would also recommend cleaning the barrel before firing any pellets. Most new barrels will come with a factory coating to protect them from rusting whilst in storage. This can be thick and sticky, causing problems with power levels and accuracy. Once barrel is clean I would then recommend 'leading in' the barrel. This is achieved by firing a good few rounds down the barrel and is sometimes referred to as seasoning the barrel. To stay within the laws of your country, a chronograph would be a must have. All sounds a bit complicated but rest assured there are plenty of videos, even on this channel that will explain these procedures in depth. Happy shooting newbies, and try not to injure or kill anyone as it looks bad on the rest of us😂😂
Hi I've just purchased a hw100kt after a 20 odd year break from shooting when you say leading in would you say around 300 pellets would be enough Thank you.
@@markhill1353 For my Puncher Breaker "leading in" was said to be after ~500 shots... But I watched a review series about it "After 1000 shots", "After 2000 shots", "After 5000 Shots". That guy said the barrel took ~2000 shots to settle on its maximum precision.
I bought this gun two weeks ago. £520 with everything plus foot pump. It was time to refill & was going back to gun shop to understand how. This video saved a few miles & few hours. Main tip was - bleeding air out!! Thank you very much 🙏

Assuming the scope rail on your gun is perfectly horizontal there should be no issues with cant. No doubt others will have a method that improves on this.
@@AAROnair Apologies, should have watched your scope set-up video first - as usual very helpful and easy to follow! Andy another super useful video. I really wish I had a video like this to take me step by step through the process when I bought my first PCP all those years ago. I remember being especially terrified when filling my rifle using a divers bottle for the first time, proper squeaky bum time.
Hello Andy. Thank you because like any beginner in the pcp, I was faced with several dilemmas to find a beginner's rifle at the best value for money at the cheapest possible price in 20joules 4.5mm with regulator, bezel and manual pump. You convinced me to buy a hawke 3-9x50 ao mildot (119€) rather than a range of scopes from 40 to 80€. The pr900w gen2 rifle (204€) and a 3-stage manual pump vevor (38€).Total 361€.Hate to mount the bezel as you recommend.Really a big thank you for your work, your intellectual and moral honesty with a touch of humor is great 😉😘
Hi Andy, I'm binge-watching all your videos after founding my Diana 24 that was hidden since last century 😄 I love all the new technology and the knowledge you share - plus your tone is very enjoyable. I'm happy that you have so many subscribers, your channel is so valuable ! Still, I think you reversed the way to zero the scope. I think the correct way is like this : you aim for the center, fire, lock the rifle steady aiming the center, and then move the crosshairs (using the adjusters) over the hole... otherwise you're doubling the error ! ( at 15:20 you explain to aim at the hole and move the crosshairs to the center). Cheers from Switzerland !
Yes you got hat right, yours is the way I was taught but as it is so hard to keep steady without a vice rest I usually guess how much to adjust and bring it in by increments until it is OK best wishes from Devon UK
I've been shooting springers for years and of course some co2 ones too and a pump action Crosman. Thinking about either a PCP pistol or maybe a rifle, so thanks for this video Andy.

Fantastic tutorial Andy….Not new to Airgunning but new to PCP. Absolutely spot on advice and info on those small details that really matter. Love your style and tone, count me in….subscribed !
Another great video to help those who are beginning I helped several people now that I've moved to my new location because there are no shops where shops where I live so I let them know don't test the rifle out until it has been inspected and cleaned and so they don't inadvertently damage any of the internal parts
Hi Andy a really excellent beginners guide to pcp rifles plenty of useful information to the new comers to our sport ( even the mention of the correct way to carry a gun which I still find a shock how many experienced shooter still don’t) stay safe& well..
Excellent and valuable practical advice! I am not new to the sport but I wish someone had shown me this distilled treasure when I was taking my first steps! Good show Andy!
I found a brilliant scope mounting tip some years ago which will work on any air rifle. Mount the scope in roughly the right position but don’t fully tighten any of the screws. Now with your eyes CLOSED bring the rifle up to your shooting position. With the rifle still in your shoulder open your eyes. If you can see centrally through the scope without having to move your head then the scope position is good. If not then move the scope until you get it right. It’s worth buying higher or lower mounts if you need to. Remember lower mounts on a pcp may restrict magazine access. Now tighten the screws carefully. Check your zero every time you shoot too.
Female newbie target shooter here. Really helpful video thank you so much! I wonder if you realise how helpful this video is!? Enjoy watching your videos, you’re absolutely my go to guy! Thank you, and Mrs AA. (She’s great too.) xx
Did you get a pcp? I just purchased my first pcp rifle an Reximex accura walnut, it's tremendous and I wish I had of got one sooner, I love my springers but this is more like shooting a 22lr, and the accuracy is amazing, Now I've got to buy a pump lol.
Love your channel, I have bought 3 of your recommendations and loved them all. My next purchase will be the gamo 40 with accessories. Keep up the reviews, I have only been a shooter for 3 months and am 60 years of age. Great fun!!.
Great video Andy, I received this Gamo pack from Vector Air this week and am very pleased with it so far. It's my first PCP but not my first air rifle and from my experience of springers I decided to clean the barrel before using it. I'm glad I did because it was gummed up with grease so I would recommend this as part of the initial set-up. Stay safe.
Yes that has been my experience with barrels i am surprised nobody seems to notice this, it would be paramount with a cartridge rifle even .22 LR else you could get a bulged bore, I have actually seen this happen Dave
I watched many of your videos Andy, which have been entertaining and informative, but I really enjoyed this one. I am a great believer in trying to do things right, first time. I'm no expert on air guns, having only one air pistol, but I've had my eye on this deal since it was launched and has really helped me understand what needs to be done from the off. Well done Andy and many thanks!
Thank you for your positive comments. Hopefully we will get you into the world of the air rifles and open up a whole new world for you to enjoy. Stay safe, Andy.
Thanks for this. Being my birthday today and always used and owned springers, I've been thinking about adding a PCP to my family. The daystste redwolf has been a big pursuader regarding this, so thanks for the informative video.
From someone whose first and last gun was a Webley Vulcan Mk1 in the early 80s. Thank you, for this and your other excellent videos, they have really helped me to get to grips with some of the changes that have taken place during the last 40 years. I only recently discovered there is a shooting rage near us and we are booked in for a session soon, thanks to your videos I feel ready for a new challenge.
Thank you so much for your time on this excellent video I'm not new to this kind of air gun but I'm not that old to it either. It was a very good refresher and for newbies a must watch. Please carry on with your wonderful videos. Take care and kindest regards.
Very good job on the video Andy. Lots of good information for a new airgunner. I own a Gamo Urban PCP and it's a great low cost pesting tool, powerful and very accurate. There are a couple of things I would point out. At the end of your video you instructed that the user should remove the magazine from the rifle before storing. The bolt must be pulled back to remove the magazine which cocks the hammer. Also, there is a pellet in the barrel yet so when the bolt is closed the rifle is still ready to fire! I usually leave the pellet in the barrel but I always de-cock the hammer. One has to remember that there is still a pellet in the barrel too, or when they reinsert the magazine it will result in a double feed with two pellets in the barrel. To be really safe, the pellet should be removed with a cleaning rod, or, shot after the magazine is removed. I had a few double feeds when I first got the Urban until I learned what was happening. Thanks, I always enjoy your videos. There's just something about listening to that British accent...😉 Geo from MI, USA
Excellent video and no need to apologise as there are quite a few experts that now and again need reminders of the basics. Scope zeroing from a clamp will get you near but for the new shooter you still will have to re-zero once your in your normal shooting position ( as this won't be clamped) so dont worry if its all a bit out when you first shoot for real just slowly adjust as before by moving up/down L/R as needed.
I've been shooting 40 odd years, useing springers and Co 2, now ive just ordered a pcp kit (gamo arrow) and its definitely different again, thanks for the advice as im useless with instructions so you've saved some costly errors lol (thanks)
I would add only one thing to first read the manual that came with your new gun. These manuals can save a lot of headaches when setting up a new gun. Keep these videos coming they are great.
Hey Andy, remember you recommended this to me about 18 months ago to Karl (That guy knows his stuff),It's been a pleasure to shoot an as you said the snobs with the laminate AA rifles look down on but again as you say that smirk is swiftly wiped away when they see my target grouping, most went in same home even! Only thing is each time I use it I feel I gotta re-sight it in again and I'm getting a container or compressor, probably a pump but then I still gotta rely on someone else to fill it which a pump or compressor does not. Reason for thye container is I'm pumped it up 200 times nearly and still was just over the low red, I don't take much notice of the Chinese one on the pump. I wouldn't worry but mates R10 has no such difficulties. Sorry just looked and that was my 3rd post here...2 years old though.
Nice background, if junior starting out maybe following Dads example a BSA Ultra Jsr , nice sized not over expensive used now around £350 plus you may get a good deal with fitted scope and a divers bottle too, my first PCP I got a FX T12 in 0.22 cal, bag and divers 3 liter tank plus pellets probe fitted to divers tank too, the guy showed me how to load the FX magazine ,load, and fill just to be sure i was informed, this deal cost £350 all together, nice trip to Ely to pick up face to face great guy great deal.
Hi Andy . Great vid as considering a pcp soon. But when you was showing the zeroing procedure, I didn't see you take a shot after placing the crosshairs on the first shot, and then re positioning the rifle to the bull ! I'm struggling to see how moving the crosshairs to the first shot and then back to the bull would affect the rifle !! Maybe it's just me !
Move the crosshairs to the first shot using the turrets, then aim the gun at the bull again and take another shot. Think it was edited slightly out of sequence 🤦♂️
I find useful to wrap the threads of the probe adaptor with teflon tape prior to connecting them to avoid leakages. Another important point from my side: do never store the gun cocked as it may ruin the hammer spring. I am shooting airguns for some time now but it is sometimes good going back to the basics of our sport. Thanks for the video
Bought my gamo gx40 kit from vector air last week, my first pcp love it, got the pump with it to give me some exercise I don't drain it as I Can't take pumping for that long lol. Keep the video's going. Cheers Adam.
Andy you are the reason i am in confidently in air guns now. Millions of respect . I have SNR dual amo, glock gen 17 dual amo and just bought BROCOCK ENIGMA. Iwould like you to do enogma’ review its wood made please and tag me if u can. I am waiting desperately. I got this with awsome scope and carbon fibre silencer.
Thank you again for a most instructive video, since it will be over-confidence that will ultimately cause accidents, losses of property, moneys, mayhaps fatality.
Thanks Andy, this is superb. I bought the same combo from Nottingham in March and had to work this out myself, with online videos. Exactly what is needed and all in one place. Love the backdrop :)

I have never zeroed a scope, great basic info I appreciate it. I have been interested in a pcp and this has given me the info i needed
Hi Andy. Big fan of your videos, because you speak clearly, are patient, explain well, and don't use stupid background music.
@@coaldust01stop begging it you won't get laid mate!
Love your channel, I have bought 3 of your recommendations and loved them all. My next purchase will be the gamo 40 with accessories. Keep up the reviews, I have only been a shooter for 3 months and am 60 years of age. Great fun!!.
@ 8:19 what you describe is a "grub screw", a short allen screw with a tapered tip.
Ya got me. I'm subscribed to too many RUclips channels already. But your content is just too good to ignore. I'm powerless to resist. Subscribed.
So nice to see you back miss your shows learning a lot the new air guns of today
I have never had a brand new gun that didn't need a barrel clean before zeroing. Apart from that, good, informative video
This takes me back some years, anyway, brilliant information and instruction.
Stay safe.
Yes that has been my experience with barrels i am surprised nobody seems to notice this, it would be paramount with a cartridge rifle even .22 LR else you could get a bulged bore, I have actually seen this happen
Dave
@@daviddunn748 that sounds like pretty important info for a newb. thank you!
UK English with the accent really are the best narrators.. Soothing like Clarkson
Thanks for this. Being my birthday today and always used and owned springers, I've been thinking about adding a PCP to my family. The daystste redwolf has been a big pursuader regarding this, so thanks for the informative video.
Always good advice Andy, well worth watching for any newbie.
Excellent presentation mate, you're so polished and clear on your demonstrations, it's a pleasure to watch. 👍
Very nice detail there Andy; it only half applied to my pcp since its a custom build, but the overall guide is perfect for those who need it :)
Realy good info video. Planing to start the PCP life soon after shooting springers.
Always the best way to start a Friday. Thanks Andy 😊
Cheers for the safety tips. I used to have break air guns as a kid so this modern gubbins is all new and exciting to me lol. Thanks again.
Great video, thanks. looking to get back into shooting after a very long time away. (since my early teens!) This video was just what I needed!
Thanks for the great information. I was going to comment on the great view out that window till I saw all the fold lines in the vinyl decal.
Thank you so much for your time on this excellent video I'm not new to this kind of air gun but I'm not that old to it either. It was a very good refresher and for newbies a must watch. Please carry on with your wonderful videos. Take care and kindest regards.
Thanks!
Thank you, thank you thank you for this wonderful introduction to airguns.
Just bought a phox on saturday... Wish i saw this video to help set up. Great job many thanks
Bought the Gamo Phox similar price/pack and worked out how to put air in the rifle, thanks to this guy,big time 👍
A diana outlaw review is much needed kind sir , I would believe every word you say.
There's just something about listening to that British accent...😉
Geo from MI, USA
Excellent video and no need to apologise as there are quite a few experts that now and again need reminders of the basics. Scope zeroing from a clamp will get you near but for the new shooter you still will have to re-zero once your in your normal shooting position ( as this won't be clamped) so dont worry if its all a bit out when you first shoot for real just slowly adjust as before by moving up/down L/R as needed.
Good video Andy. As someone who’s always preferred the simplicity of springers this is a good primer.
Thank you, your video is very informative. Once again thank you very much for your tutorial video. I am forwarding that to my grandson.
Fantastic instruction 'video'; idiot proof, and almost therapeutic ; should be compulsory viewing !
Thank you , Andy and crew, once again.
Just discovered your channel Andy and you do a great job my friend. Very informative and you always give good honest reviews.
I like your videos at this time a bunch of us are going to start a shooting team for the veterans golden age games .i am 70 plus 👍
Great guide as always Andy! Keep up the good work.
I thought the exact same thing! Dunno how this mistake was not caught and fixed. Also dunno why more people didn't notice.
I love your videos Andy , even the so called newbie ones as it brings me back to my beginnings in Air rifles . Thanks !
I've just brought the Gamo Phox Package, so this was a great video for me.
I love your work Andy, as usual your valuable advice, well researched information and very professional delivery are all "Top Notch" mate.
Another job done well by Andy !
Thanks a lot for this best made video. Even the practice advices on how to mount and adjust the sight might be very helpful for beginners.
Very informative presentation for the new shooter.
Thanks for the reviews on this package, collected mine from Vector - Air today. Keep the vids coming! Iv got a lot to learn...
Can you do a tutorial for filling a pcp gun with a pump specifically? Thanks for this vid!
Bought my gamo gx40 kit from vector air last week, my first pcp love it, got the pump with it to give me some exercise I don't drain it as I
Can't take pumping for that long lol.
Just what I'm looking for wanting to buy my first air gun and was thinking of a pcp one liked and subbed
