      I listened to them in the seventies. They matured from an angry new wave band into the band that played Golden Brown/always the sun, etc.My favourite band from the punk/ new wave era.

      There were so many great bands about in the late 70s early 80s. This is my favourite stranglers era and this song will always bring a smile to my face. On cold January and February nights just play this and you'll know spring is around the corner.

      Couldn't agree more...I was 17 in 1982 just finishing school then 6th form college back in Manchester went to Xaverian VI form in Rusholme...funny but even then i knew I never wanted to grow up....my mother in law said I never did !!

      I’m so sorry that you lost your father ❤️‍🩹 This song is one of my father’s favorite songs also, we actually engraved his stone with “Always the sun” and also played it in his funeral and in my wedding in honor of him. Our father’s has great taste in music. Lots of hugs to you ❤️

    My cool musician/computer scientist husband introduced me to this song; he loved it, played it. He departed from this life a year ago.       Yo, Agree with you there mate. And that from an Irish man. Mr Boyle had it right when he showcased Brit music in the fab finale of the 2012 Olympics. This music will be remembered 500 years from now and beyond..if we are still around. It was a renaissance...music of a free people.
      As for this song, I love it as a "fuck it all" song after a hard year before I head off to Spain ...when you take your power back.

      Yes, spot on. I had a friend who was a busker and called Joe who played this beautifully and has now gone back to his country of origin - Portugal. I wish I had a photo of him.
      I gave him money and cried at the beauty of his guitar playing. He was so amazing. I did at least tell him that he was fantastic and that he. had made me happy for two years

    Well I'm 59 now (dear Lord how time flies) and am so pleased I was around and really enjoyed these guys, not to mention all the other ground breaking musical stuff emerging then ... sigh. Going to be 60 in July ... feeling very old looking back at these videos but I have great memories of being really young and free back then.

    I saw the Stranglers in The Red Lion on Putney High St in 1976 when they played "Dagenam Dave" for the first time. Who would have 'thunk' so many years later that they would become so much a part of my "old man" (I'm now 60) life. What a great song. I love the opening lines. I was for many years a bass player in a rock n roll band; much influenced by the 'growling;' sounds of jj.

    Iove the stranglers. Took my dad to see them in Norwich circa 2004 when I was 21 and he first saw them when he was 21 great moment to share and what a band soooo good

      I went out with his daughter. Haven't seen her in twenty years but sent her my sorrows at his passing, only a month after my own father, who was funnily enough very impressed by her (Charlotte)

      @@silviofelix1991 I guess so. I went to see them at Rock City at Nottingham in the 80s. I was with a friend who had been in the punk band The Fall. At their fab concert, they celebrated their rebellious streak in their punk songs, but now and then we heard a ballad. RIP Dave Greenfield, an absolute fab pianist.

    A childhood friend of mine had this played at his funeral, as the "Retiral Music" as we left the church. I had never heard it before and found it hauntingly beautiful. God Bless a truly descent, humble and happy guy.

    Simple minds playing at Citys ground in Manchester 90's. Broken tooth for member of the group......we got tickets front of house pass....was amazing. ❤
