Larry Collins- guitar genius. Eons ahead of his time.
That is right
Rest in Peace Larry Collins (1944-2024).
Rest in Peace Larry (October 4, 1944 - January 5, 2024)
Back in the 1950’s in elementary school, in a small all white country town, I was in a school play with black face and sang the Shortening Bread song.
Hahah, nowadays, you'd get tarred and feathered, by the libs that took over your town.
That kid belongs in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. Icon for guitarist that followed.
The kiss on the cheek was a perfect ending to the song.
The way Larry did that was always devilishly playful with a raised eyebrow and a little grin.
That kid playing guitar had more energy than every single kid on the planet today .
And he doesn't have green hair, tattoos, or piercings either..
Soooo true...since boys today are glued to the couch holding gaming controllers allllllll day long
Great guitar player
@@LondonFogg oh, he got the tattoos and piercings later in life
Meth, crack, liberalism and fentanyl weren't invented yet !!!
That kid, Larry Collins, is still alive. He’s now 78 years old.
WOW! Damn!
He's my sister's age. I don't see that as being very old.
What a talent. Both of them .To think what music has turned into. Rap artist lyrics are just obscene. Men and women's.
@@Susweca5569 it is very old
@@c.a.marsupial.1282 Sadly true
Wow, that's HEPP !!! love it.
You could power a city from Larry's energy!
Why don't we - I will construct the wheel
I'm a longtime guitar player and love learning about great pickers of the past, from any genre.
In my opinion, Larry Collins (the kid in this video) is THE most underappreciated rock 'n' roll guitar player of all time.
For starters, he's using a double-neck Mosrite that probably weighs 20 pounds, at a body weight that looks to be maybe 100 pounds. He's doing physically demanding stage moves that I've never seen anybody else attempt. His technique is darn good -- and this song is far from his most impressive playing. He sings harmony well. He does all this on live television with no opportunity to go back and fix errors. And at this point (1957) he's only12 or 13 years old (born in October 1944). Phenomenal.
You've summed up Larry's phenomenal showmanship very well. His well-acted musical skits with Lorrie show more of his performance skills, all while "wrecking" that rock guitar and floating around that stage. No backup band, no special effects, not even a drummer- amazing young entertainer.
When America was America!
RIP Larry Collins! You and big sis brought it.
Oh Man - That little Kid on the fantastic guitar & dancing all around at the same time is just TOO-MUCH !!! 🤠 He Stole the Show !!! TY.
Just became aware of them tonight. Larry blows me away. He was a child prodigy
She can really belt out that song. Wow.
I'm very surprised that a double guitar existed that far back in music history!
This seems to be a Mandela Effect. A video was posted recently showing Elvis holding a double necked guitar from the fifties. I was born in 1950 and I never saw a double necked guitar in the fifties.
Relatively speaking it's really not That 'far back in music history' lol, but yes, double necks were somewhat rare then.....(I'm 66)
Its a Mosrite. They started making them in the late 50's so that one would have been possibly one of the very first models.
@@buddyrichable1 double necked guitars have been around since the year it was invented, 1690. I looked it up😊
The Gibson double neck SG style was first produced like 1958 thru ‘62 i believe. I could be off but my point is that a lot of “metal” guitars like the Flying V and Explorer were made in the 50s. Long before “metal” existed. Pretty interesting.
this was the first song I learned on the guitar when I was 9. my cousin taught me when he was on leave from the army. this kid had a lot more energy than me, but I'm 67 now. 🤣
I didn't know they had double neck guitars back then! He's KILLING IT!!
First thing I noticed.
I’m thinking that’s the oldest video I have ever seen with such a guitar
Funny thing is that I've never seen Larry play the smaller one on the top.
I saw that guitar in the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville this past summer
@@joewalsh6359 Interesting!!!!
How can 16 people put a thumbs down on this obviously don't understand talent when they see it 🤔🤔🤔
JEALOUSE that's the reason
Perhaps it’s the silly song and Larry’s “dancing”? Cringy.
Unfortunately, especially today, the nitwits cannot appreciate things from longer than 12 years ago or less. Having some knowledge of music (as here) helps and even more so, placing one's self in the era something comes from and having heard other similar music from the time for comparison. This goes not only for music, but all films, dance, literature--basically all the arts.
💀.."mean-spirited" IS as "mean-spirited" DOES..!!(smfh..)
Because they're jealous they can't make so good music
For all the smug guitar players saying there are many excellent young guitar players today and Larry is all flash remember Larry had no internet to learn from. He's 13 here. He had a book to learn from.
Back then, this music wasn't popular enough to have much competition, Larry could take his time learning it
I think he's 12 here - not 13.
Kids like myself, learning guitar in the '70s and '80s, didn't either. I learned from listening. Had no use for books.
The Collins Kids! Uniquely talented, yet sadly overlooked and underrated over the years. They were genuine trailblazers. Glad to see that some have always recognized their talent, and hopefully that recognition will grow. Although not as common as "Sister Acts" or "Brother Acts", the "Sister-Brother Act" does seem especially unique, right, charming, sweet and excellent when it does happen. Lorrie & Larry Collins are great examples of that, along with Donny & Marie Osmond, Karen & Richard Carpenter, and the Browns, (Jim Ed, Maxine & Bonnie) to name the few other "Sister-Brother" acts I can think of.
100%agree
Bebe and Cece Winans.😄
Everybody is underrated
And don't forget The Jackson Five.
If they were underexposed or underrated it’s because they declined “the bargain” at the crossroads. Consider it a win and enjoy the music
I don’t even like rockabilly but LOOK AT THAT LITTLE BOY FREAKING GOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! And their voices together are SO IN TUNE and just PHENOMENAL!!!! Like the power and clarity outta these kids. I’m sold. Lol 😂
I think you may like rockabilly.
Who doesnt like rockabilly ... and i aint even American. 😄
@@somestupidwithaflaregun7149 You have the best YT user name I've seen in awhile.
@@reprintranch Thank you!
Maybe try out Brian Setzer
Discovered the Kids a few days ago. Never heard of them. One video is never enough. Larry's talent is just great and man could he bop. Even his head. Quite the showman.
You are honestly refreshing. The rest of these posts pretending they heard them before are hilarious. I grew up in the 50s and 60s and never saw them on TV. Rockabilly was not mainstream until Elvis, and there were way too many teen idols after that. These kids were too cute for rock and roll and too raunchy for the Grand ol Opry stiff necks. Talented kids, but early rock and roll left them behind.
You may have seen her. She played Ricky Nelson’s girlfriend (and David’s, apparently).
@@seed_drill7135 on Ozzie and Harriet! Wow.
I remember seeing them on the TV when I was a kid.
Never will I tire of watching anything by these two......she's cute with a great voice and Larry is a nutter in the best sense of the word......absolute dynamo of a guitarist
Very cute for sure.
Man, I used to wish that I could play guitar like that. Now I’m wishing that I had some of that kids energy 🥴
Sad to say I never heard of them. But they’re perfect. Go, cat, go!
Wow! I discovered the Collins Kids few years ago with RUclips. Tex Ritter's Ranch Party back in 1957. Wonderful ! Rockabilly and Country Music. That's the Real Thing ! RIP Lorrie Collins and hats off to Larry (such a Guitar Man). God bless them
I just discovered these two.
I chuckle at this masterpiece with a big smile and then Larry gives his big sis a smootch on her cheek.
Gotta love the pep in his step while he is cranking out his guitar. 👍
Amazing footwork - while playing amazing guitar! What a talent!!
Think about it larry was just 15 years then
@@stevemokum
Ok. Captain
Back then it was shameful for women to sing to rocknroll, Larry had long begged his sister to do it, here on emotion he kissed just her
@@stevemokum:
No.
He was 12.
The kid with the guitar stole the show. Anazing! What happened to him? Why didn't he become famous? He gives me Elvis level talent, charisma, and stage presence.
I'm amazed at how Larry could move and dance around with that big double-neck guitar strapped on him.
RIP Larry Collins, 5 Jan 24.
Their outfits , her singing, his playing and dancing, PERFECTION
Those outfits were designed mostly from the Texas swing age...the forebearer of today's rock and roll.
That kid created Rock and Roll!
RIP Larry Collins .....Godspeed
Larry and his double neck are magical
Have only just read the sad news that Lorrie Collins passed away in August following a fall..........Glad we have many videos and recordings of a very pretty lady....Condolences to her Larry and their families.
😪
My grandma sang this to me to rock me to sleep and now I have rocked all 4 of my babies to this beat…slightly slower haha
They’re all just standing around while that kid is totally rocking out. :D
just discovered them. Totally blown away. Damn he can shred on the doubleneck
Larry is so light on his feet!
Got that right!!
Probably only weighs 60 lbs
@@jogmas12 so did that guitar. 🤣
Pure energy ……… excellent !
The world changes but not always for the better That young boy is amazing.
OMG this is the best, that kid and the double guitar, back then its so precious those good ol days, wonder if they did anything more!
How many kids saw Larry on TV and immediately went "I want to do THAT!!!!"
I hope Larry gets his due in this lifetime. I understand he's still with us.
He did get his due. He wound up playing shit hole bars where shit musicians deserve to be.
They are Awesome and this is the first time I watched them
The kid can play and he knows it... 🎸
Did you know Larry also wrote a bunch of the songs they sing? "Hop-Skip- and a Jump" is one of them.
Whatta An 😎 Awesome
Good Time Experience

So cool. That kid is awesome☺
This kid is cool as heck! Just discovered him last week..WOW!🎸🤠
Little dude is all out... Too cool.
WEEEELLLLLL DOOOGGGYYYY, THATS SOME FINE PICKIN & A SINGING THERE, SURE ENOUGH! I GUARANTEE!
The Angus Young of 50s rockabilly....
Larry has some damn good moves while playing the guitar. First time seeing The Collins Kids, and it was refreshing.
Feeling very grateful to have seen them live at the Green Bay '50s fest -- some 17 or 18 years ago (going on my shaky memory on the date). They were terrific -- even "all growed up."
Back when the music was good and made you glad 🤙🏻
What a seriously underrated duo! Beyond awesome!
His guitar is worth a small fortune now.
He puts me in mind of Elvis❤
Wow I never seen early footage of Angus young before. He was even more energetic as a kid. 😳
Good one!
Larry was off the charts in terms of guitar playing ability and sheer showmanship! Playing like that while dancing like a maniac-unbelievable. Why did he seem to vanish after the 50’s/early 60’s??
He wasn't really playing and the girl sure didn't have any talent.
@@johngalush8790 He was actually playing and you're a moron with a deaf ear.

Larry is way ahead of his time, he reminds me of Jimmy Page in 1973
I remember my mom teaching this to me and singing this as a kid in the 50's.
Did this young man go on to anything later in life? With that much talent I would think so.
Larry Collins, co-wrote two hits...Delta Dawn and You're the Reason God Made Oklahoma.
@@marklynn7618the Tanya Tucker song?

Double guitar 🎸
Go kid Go,!

RIP Larry collins. 1/10/2024
That's when music was music a great sound and you cold understand what they were singing about ..long live rock n roll as chuck berry sang
I've never heard of or seen these kids before but who they remind me of is, Brian Setzer of the Stray Cats the 1980s. Same energy same flavor.
I saw this clip about 26 years ago and couldn’t believe it…way to rock!!
Im amazed and surprised😅
Wow that was awsum
That is rock & roll for sure!
Yeah. if you say so...🙄
"Man I'm diggin it"!! GO !! Thanks
Guarantee if he would have been playing guitar in the 80s he would have been shredding metal and loving it.
How is it that I have reached this age and have never heard of these people? They are - amazing.
I'm with you.I grew up on a lot of different types of music.
Big band.Country.Pop.Rock.
Never heard of these kids or Rockabilly style until Stray Cats.
There are some fun stories about the Collins Kids.
Lorrie even dated Ricky Nelson while Larry went along as a chaperone.
They broke up the act when Lorrie got married at 17 and became a wife and mother. Larry stayed in the business and was sought after as a performer on the Rockabilly circuit for years.
It's not easy to play a double neck guitar AND jump around! I really enjoyed this!
Larry was also singing harmony, not to mention skillfully keeping his guitar cord out from under his feet.
She's gorgeous
GORGEOUS
WOW this Rocks,go kids go.
I turn green when I see such talented people ❤
🎼 That is a time when music was music.
Larry must've guzzled a gallon of sweet tea right before this performance. Boy! Is he hyper!
These kids are phenomenal
Very, very cool 😎😎😎😎😎😎, thump's up.
Pure rockabilly
