Hey everyone. How are you all doing today? Today we are working on my Saltwater Reef Aquarium. This Fish Tank is so awesome. I am having a lot of fun getting this tank going. We are going to be working in the sump today. The Saltwater Sump that I got from Pro Clear Aquatic Systems has a build in Refugium. Well since I have had the tank running I haven't done anything with the Refugium. Today that changes. Algae Barn was kind enough to sponsor my Saltwater Aquarium Build by sending the Ultimate Refugium Starter Pack for my system.
We are going to be working with some awesome stuff. We are going to be using Chaeto Macroalgae to help with Phosphates and Nitrates. We need to add Marinepure Ceramic Media, live bacteria to start the nitrogen cycle (or boost established bacteria) from Fritz Aquatics (It is there Turbo Start 900), Live Copepods and their OceanMagik Live pyhytoplankton Blend of four strains of live phytoplankton to give the copepods, your corals, and filter feeding inverts a full diet of food. It is important to add this to an established tank or cycle it prior to adding the macroalgae and copepods as they need a cycled aquarium to thrive.
This is such a fun hobby and I can't wait to share this video with you all. Updates will come of course. I hope my chaeto takes off soon and start helping to export nutrients from the aquarium. I hope that you all enjoyed the video. If you did please consider subscribing, hitting the bell, commenting, liking and sharing. Thank you for your support of my channel by watching. Have an amazing day!

One should keep in mind that red algae do not absorb red light, and that green algae do not absorb green light. A white light lamp will work with most types of algae🤡

My experience with chaeto was, once I upped my lighting on it and increased my bio load by add more fish my chaeto grew like mad. At local reef club meetings I would bring bags of it to give away to people because it kept out growing the refug.

Nice video, but I have watched a few videos on refugiums, and I think everyone I have heard mispronounces the name of the macro algae. It is not pronounced “Chato” with a long “a” sound. It should be pronounced “keyto” with a long “e”. I am a marine biologist and aquaculture biologist that has worked with a marine diatom algae species called Chaetoceros (key-toss-sir-us). Maybe a dumb point to bring up, but it bugs me a little when I hear things mispronounced. Still a good video, which I enjoyed.

No mention of where, in the tank the refugem should be placed,no mention, the rate of water flow, how the water enters and passes out of the refugem,

I would have run without the skimmer for a few days after introducing all those additives. Great video though and nice system .

Super cool tank Paul. You have done a fantastic job setting this up. Everything is so well planned out and organized. If I could live inside a fish tank, it would be this one. I would love to set up a tank like that, but goodness golly it looks like a lot of work. For now I’ll stick with plecos and Corydoras. Cheers 🍻

good vid, hopefully you've learned a lot since uploading this. Waste of a lot of $$setting up that refugium. I just through a couple of pieces of live rock & cheat in mine. Put a pump + lights. Chaeto grows to the point where I constantly trim & dump + have little critters galore. That + a portion skimmer for my 125 keeps corals thriving & fish happy.
