The 2023 ES Ultra Luxury is now my go-to because it has a silky smooth V6, solid build, plush very, very quiet ride, and an excellent Mark Levinson sound system. Right on Nathan. Say it how it is. The sedan is NOT dead. Just because there are more CUVs than ever before, does not mean this class is on the extinction list.

What’s so funny is that though this isn’t a sporty car, this is far more capable than 90% of SUVs that sedans are cross shopped against and are stealing their customers. I get that “sportiness” is something reviewers are use to talking about with sedans, but try to compare them to what it’s actually being cross shopped with/what is taking its customers along with other sedans.
I’m sick and tired of Zoomers and people in midlife crisis hijacking every discussion. Thanks to those clueless Neanderthals, luxury sedans are being phased out completely. If sedans still exist, 99% are sporty, rough and uncomfortable. Someone needs to tell these kids they’re not on the Indianapolis 500. Their fantasies don’t get to worsen my chronic pain. You can’t even get a comfortable Cadillac anymore.
The Selfish Useless Vehicles have higher payload. The ES, for example, has only ~400 kg of maximum payload. Even the compact SUVs like the NX has a max payload over ~600 kg. So over all, the SUVs are better for the unorganized who keep a truckload of household items in their car all the time.
Reliability is the PRIMARY reason you get the ES 350. Shopped with my step dad this week and looked at the ES 350 (Base and F Sport Handling), CT5 V6, Camry, Audi A6 (big discounts right now), and Genesis G70/G80. He narrowed it down to the CT5 and ES 350. H thought the ES 350 was beautiful and luxurious, but he really liked the CT5 power and acceleration - 405 pound-feet of torque is no joke. That car hauls butt. One issue with the CT5 is their sunroof yields a big bulge in the rear seating area, with an indentation for taller folks. It's tight, and almost every VT5 available in the USA had the sunroof even though way more headroom without it. He also wanted to keep the final price under $55K while well equipped, and that was a bit challenging given what both Lexus and Cadillac was building. Every CT5 we found equipped the way we wanted was $58K+ after tax. He ended up with the ES 350 Base with Premium package, 12.3" screen and 18" wheels all for about $54K total. The CT5 equipped well gives you al LOT more stuff, but reliability is definitely a concern, but let's face it, every major car maker today is super reliable compared to 20-25 years ago. Also, the Lexus dealer by his house is fantastic, though Sewell is as good as they get as well. On his ES 350 I really wanted him to have the heads up display but Lexus refuses to make any of the base models with it, and to get it you had to spend over $5K more on an Ultra Luxury. The multi camera screen setup comes with the Ultra as well but I am not impressed with it and compared to the one from Hyundai/KIA it is downright terrible. The fake leather seats don't feel fake at all. Real leather ones are barely distinguishable from the NuLuxe ones. Oh, my step dad chose the Base over the F-Sport. It was a toss up and frankly I could tell the F Sport had a firmer ride. It saved him $2500 and got him just as good a car.
He made a good choice. I went from an Avalon limited to an ws 350 base premium. Funny the Avalon at 44k had more features than the es. Had the pop up display, rear window shade which I liked, as well as rear ventilated seats w heat. I would have paid a little more to get those features, but didn't want to pay as much for the es luxury model. Was about 57k . I do enjoy the luxury feel of the es compared to the Avalon and I wasn't able to get another Avalon limited before it was discontinued

Yeah, but 2>1. Compared to the Camry, the ES has: More wheelbase, more legroom, tighter tolerances, smaller body gaps, more thoroughly inspected parts, better paint with more layers applied in a separate paint shop, more structural reinforcement in the front and rear, more structural adhesives for body rigidity, more soundproofing in multiple locations, unique shock absorbers on non-F Sport models with a new design that took 6 years to develop, better sound systems, and nicer materials throughout the interior. The result, unsurprisingly, is a car that feels more luxurious and expensive.
I have extremely mixed emotions about this car. It has an elegant exterior, it is roomy and reliable, fuel economy is fair in every version fast and slow. They even fixed the infotainment. The problem is, it's just a Camry with more legroom and leather. So there is no real reason to buy it other than you like spending money on a car that will elegantly bore you for years to come. For the extra 13,000 vs the Camry at the absolute minimum it should have an LSD.
Stating my bias, I chose to buy an ES rather than a Camry. I recently drove a rental Camry, and it's a fine car with clear family resemblance. But there was a reason why I spent extra: The ES is better in multiple ways. Quieter, smoother, better build quality, better sound system, better dealer experience, better everything. Yes it's Camry plus, but the pluses are real.
To elaborate: Your original post said its only advantages are "legroom and leather," and "there is no real reason to buy it other than you like spending money." Now, it's not for me to decide just what you consider worth the money and what isn't. But the statement that there's no difference is just not empirically true. It's not the driver's imagination or ego-it's design, features and quality in excess of the Camry's. Again, whether you consider this worthwhile is up to you, but the difference is real.
@@tonysterbenc Honestly, truthfully, sincerely, the differences between the cars are like a 1992 Taurus and Lincoln Continental. @@MercOne Now you're talkin'. Except for the word "dumb," I agree with pretty much every word you wrote. But there's two ways of looking at it. The "glass half empty" way of saying it is "Other AWD sedans this size cost more because they’re not hobbled by having to use a family car platform." The other way is, "Using an FWD family car platform lets Lexus deliver a sedan with the room and ride comfort of AWD competitors for $10,000 less." And you know what? Even though you think that's "dumb," they still find 30,000 buyers for it, and I very much doubt they're about to apologize for the fact that they outlasted every competitor and now have that market segment to themselves.
I hope Lexus decides to use this steering wheel on all their line up and get rid of that touchpad one.
The touchpad is gone since 2 years
I don’t like the infotainment system or the traction stock not a fan.
i dont care what wheels drive the car rw,awd, fwd as long as the car drives good i have had them all and didnt think any was better than the other. yes they were all a little different but different does not mean better just different.
The only competition to the ES350 is the Volvo S60, IMO. All the others focus more on sporty handling than a comfortable and luxurious ride.
I’d also say the accord and Camry in top end trims do a good job of competing with the es
@@naveenthemachine but at that price point you might as well get the ES for a bit more, hence most Camrys on the road are SE and some XSE with rarely LE and XLE being a unicorn to find because at that price point u can go entry level German, es or TLX or g70
@@ToxicCookie the ES is still a Camry based car. You still get Camry driving dynamics but you pay significantly more. Not to mention you won’t get the same feature content in a base ES.
If you’re going to a luxury car from a Camry or accord start with the TLX or genesis or a base 3 series. The IS is ancient so it’s not worth it
@@naveenthemachine the last ES based on the Camry was the 5th (2007-2012) generation. The last two generations (2013-2019 and 2020- present) are based on the Avalon.
@@damilolaakanni true but the Avalon is also based on a Camry platform. So whether or not the avalon exists the ES is still based on a Camry platform
If you're interested in one, get it now. Going away in next 2 years
Sorry but the analog clock just looks out of place and random
?yacht rock, is wanting a TFLBoat channel real?
This is Camry 2.0
@@tonysterbenc Enjoy your car. It's pretty and will last a long time.
@@davids1816 Thank you.
To elaborate: Your original post said its only advantages are "legroom and leather," and "there is no real reason to buy it other than you like spending money." Now, it's not for me to decide just what you consider worth the money and what isn't. But the statement that there's no difference is just not empirically true.
Showing up in this car is like going to the court in new Chuck Taylor's and everyone else has the new Jordans. Then you say, "Yeah but these Chucks got special glue and foam in the insole!" That might be true, but you're still wearing Converse and Chucks were basketball shoes for people who are like 70 now. You can get a purpose-built Sedan with elite engineering and materials for that money. Don't fear change. Upgrade!
I love Nathans videos but I stopped watching at the very begining because i couldn't stand the music.
Sorry you missed it. Pretty interesting video.
ES sedan needs more power Lexus needs replacement G's sedan and is 300 sedans is to small trunk is needs more power to 600 horsepower it lacks time for redesigned
Ls 400 sedans.
Putting 200hp down in fwd is low-key difficult, 300hp forget about it, and they want 50k for it???
Yes. And they're getting it; it outsells both the 5 Series and the E Class in America. Starting price is only $40k, though.
@@tonysterbenc yea by middle-aged women 🤣😂😂 that's who it's intended for anyway!
@@musicmann5516 So what. Do they not count as people?
Nice hat 😎 PS, Nathan is not that fat 😇
I had 2021 or 2022 ES350 loaner.....sucks in ride quality, fit and finish etc. Compared to 2016+ GS350. Should've junked it and kept GS line. So much better
The GS is better. But it also cost at least $10,000 more, and people weren't willing to pay it. It died because in the next class up from the ES, people lease the flavor of the week and they went German.
Too bad V6's are going extinct. Still have my 3.8l V6 mustang.
I could do without the nebulous generic trap beat background noise
Why are you out of breath while sitting in a car?
F-sport. I thought you were saying escort until you pointed to the badge. I was thinking Lexus was going down hill fast building an escort😭😭😭
Sad that I have to unsubscribe cuz your TFLbids is or has a scammer which may or may not be you fix it or well no bids from me nor me watching period thanks
Why buy this when you can get a Chevy Silverado & bounce around for $85k
Ick, that edited in rappity tap "music" had me reaching to mute on the remote. Am I the only Gen X that is sick of this crap? There's a reason classic rock or even hip hop is easier on the ears!
Now about the car, luv the color and execution but bemoan the loss of chrome trim. It seems glossy black is the new old king 👑
I love watching Nathans videos but I had to stop watching this one right away because of the annoying music.
@@trevorhart5576 yeah me too but it's getting ridiculous nowadays with even big companies using this annoying ping ping taptap fake noise for even mainstream commercials. Please stop mofos!
Nice Camry
Except with an available V6...........so it's like an older Camry haha. Let's be honest though, that powertrain comes with a lot of reliability.
@@Bigern2998 the Camry also offers a v6.

Camry is on a different platform and smaller. This is the same platform as the avalon
Their is nothing appealing about a Lexus. It would be a total waste of my money
I see you're the same troll who informatively posted "Lexus fanbois" below as an entire comment. Over 30,000 ES's were sold last year in America -- more than the 5 Series or E Class -- so, despite your obvious wisdom, not everyone who shopped for an actual car instead of masturbating at a keyboard in Mom's basement agreed with your astute assessment.
Sweet camry. I could buy a 1million of 1million camry or pay more for the lexus badge. Yup nothing says I give up more than buying the same boring lexus everyone else has. Is it a Kia nope better built, but just as boring. Only thing Toyota makes that's interesting is built by BMW or Subaru.
Pointless car. Just get a crossover
No.
No thanks
Unless you want a sedan
Nope.
No it’s not better in any way than the competition
This shows Lexus is not a luxury brand. Reusing economy car platforms in more expensive vehicles is not luxury.
The g80 is a much better car than this
