    What is special ?: most of this movie was filmed with a hidden camera (nothing scripted), the only actors are Borat, his big friend Azamat & Pamela Anderson (but not the securitty guards). The movie got a record number of lawsuits and was banned in both Russia & Kazakhstan. About the scene with Pamela Anderson, she was paid for the movie, so she knew what was coming, but she understood the concept of the movie, so she didn't tell her security guys about it (and she had fun--first time that she got a role in a silly comedy, so she had a lot of fun doing it). Have a nice day.

    Compared to most reactors I've seen watch this movie you did pretty good Emma. Most people are convinced this was all real because they used so many regular people instead of actors which can fool you into believing it was real instead of a comedian, Sacha Cohn, pulling the wool over everyone's eyes. This is the type of humor I call "cringe comedy" because it can make you feel so uncomfortable due to the situations unfolding before your eyes.

    Amazingly enough, the sequel Borat Subsequent Moviefilm manages to be even crazier. Since he can't do his usual thing anymore because he's too famous and recognizable, he disguises himself as "not Borat" so as not to tip people off, and takes a back seat while his daughter Tutar (Maria Bakalova was nominated for an Oscar for this) stole the show. And before you ask, yes the scene with the daughter and the mayor was real, and yes it caused a major shitstorm in the US when it happened.

    Stealing brides is still practised in some rural parts of Kirgistan, so Borat's "Kazaki wedding" is not really that far off when you think about it. Even in Finland, in the ancient times, stealing women from enemy tribes as wives was a thing.

    I love the way that Borat challenges the good folks in the film and challenges the good folks watching the film. He's apparently "persona non grata" in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. Russia (she pretends to love, but loves to hate) advocated the free speech of the film, whilst banning it outright. Russia has learnt from the USA, who says one thing, but does the opposite. And strangely seems to think that that is OK, and even more strangely, seems to get away with such nonsense. Sasha Baron Cohen, the creator of Borat, is a vital individual in a world where norms and values need to be challenged and debated freely and without state interference. Plus he's funny. And we could all do with a bit more fun in life.

    Whilst I dislike how political he's become in recent things he's done, Sacha's Ali G, Bruno, Borat, The Dictator, and The Brother's Grimsby will always be some of my favourite (and, I'd argue, the best) comedy movies, and comic creations, of all time. I've literally seen every outtake and extra shot of Bruno, and the movie itself, more times than any other movie, with Borat being a close second. They're amazing and hilarious imo.

    • @profanepersonality

      He was always political. You probably say you liked RATM, before they were political too. 😂😂😂

    • @JBW27
      @JBW27 27 дней назад +1

      @@profanepersonality I didn't say I dislike THAT he's political, rather HOW political he's become. Older movies like Borat have nods to politics and his views, but compare that with the second Borat and Who Is America?, for example, it's much more in-your-face politically and I dislike that. Not because of what his views are, but because I think unless your job is overtly political, you shouldn't lecture the public, which is exactly what he's doing by only taking the piss out of one side of the political spectrum.
      So, you can 'bet' whatever you like about me, but my point is entirely valid and makes sense. You just haven't understood the difference between disliking someone being political and someone increasing how obvious they're being with their political affiliations. It's like how I like stand-up comedians who rinse all politics and politicians, but not those who only focus on one party. I think doing that is manipulative and spineless, not to mention ostracising to a lot of their audience.

      @@JBW27 that's fair, I do think Borat 2 and Who Is America were much more directly political than his previous stuff. A lot of people missed the clear political influences in earlier stuff though so I think that's why people like to point out his history of political influences to his content. What was nice with Who Is America was seeing some new characters, I'd love another undercover mockumentary with an original character and more subtle political tones. I agree with a lot of his politics actually but it's still nice to escape at least a little bit from that world

    I'm really not a fan of this guy. ...but he does at least have an interesting way of presenting his opinions, most of which I do not adhere to.

    please for the love god, learn to edit better! stop ruining the flow of every scene doing cuts every 3 seconds! all you are doing is ruining the experience of the viewer. you can clearly tell the reaction channels that edit and those that dont. rant over

    Why you cut out the best jew jokes

  • @aFar1s

    i'm a free speech absolutist, not just for comedy but i think its essential for a functioning democracy. This movie(and others, we all know which ones) was distasteful at best and malicious at worst. It's seen funny because it's a hyperbolic caricature of a perceived Truth. The thing is that sliver of "Truth" needs to be true, otherwise its just an agenda ridden social commentary disguised as comedy.
    I found it funny too, until i didn't.
