Stealing brides is still practised in some rural parts of Kirgistan, so Borat's "Kazaki wedding" is not really that far off when you think about it. Even in Finland, in the ancient times, stealing women from enemy tribes as wives was a thing.

Emma is from Russia originally, speaks fluent German as her 2nd Language, now residing in Canada, so Canadian(English), 3rd Language; Hope this was of some help;
I love the way that Borat challenges the good folks in the film and challenges the good folks watching the film. He's apparently "persona non grata" in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. Russia (she pretends to love, but loves to hate) advocated the free speech of the film, whilst banning it outright. Russia has learnt from the USA, who says one thing, but does the opposite. And strangely seems to think that that is OK, and even more strangely, seems to get away with such nonsense. Sasha Baron Cohen, the creator of Borat, is a vital individual in a world where norms and values need to be challenged and debated freely and without state interference. Plus he's funny. And we could all do with a bit more fun in life.
It's funny because Sacha Baron Cohen is Jewish, so a lot of the "Khazak" that he's speaking with his producer in the movie is actually just Hebrew with a Slavic accent.
I think the objective was to make something unconventional that had truly never been made before with this as well the sequel. Very John Watters and I appreciate that about it other than just watching Sacha's performance. I mean when you can insert the character into reality and become them and many to date do believe Borat is who he is you really pulled off something special.
I've always said my 3 favorite comedies are tied between Borat, Liar Liar and Tropic Thunder. Thank you for reacting to this one. By the way, I can't place it, but where is your accent from?
Whilst I dislike how political he's become in recent things he's done, Sacha's Ali G, Bruno, Borat, The Dictator, and The Brother's Grimsby will always be some of my favourite (and, I'd argue, the best) comedy movies, and comic creations, of all time. I've literally seen every outtake and extra shot of Bruno, and the movie itself, more times than any other movie, with Borat being a close second. They're amazing and hilarious imo.
@@profanepersonality I didn't say I dislike THAT he's political, rather HOW political he's become. Older movies like Borat have nods to politics and his views, but compare that with the second Borat and Who Is America?, for example, it's much more in-your-face politically and I dislike that.
