As a bass player myself I totally agree!!!!!!! I used to play this song with an old band I was in in the middle nineties and I used my Earnie Ball bass with GHS bass boomer strings!!!!! Great tune and super fun to play!!!!! Too bad our lead guitarist couldn't do that solo to save his kiester!!!!!!! LOL
Gotta love the funky slap bass and the cowboyish guitar riff. And the drummer has that traditional grip on his sticks. And of course, Dr. Barron's voice that never fails to put a smile for an unknown reason!
Came here because Chris Barron, who wrote this song, said it was about his stepmother. Dunno the rest of the story, but when a 56-year-old man is still calling a woman his "stepmother" after at least 30 years, it's not a good sign. Peace on Earth to people of good will; life's too short to need that many Band Aids.
That song is actually about lead singer Chris Barron's stepmom, his dad’s ex-wife. People always think it’s about an ex of mine Chris says but it’s actually about my dad’s ex, who I grew up with. She was actually a malignant narcissist, if that rings a bell. She was a really rough person to grow up with and she said I was going to be a guitar-playing janitor. The Stepmom, omg. What's with some of them being such uncaring a-hole jerks!? Ha ha, he basically told her she was wrong. Now, I want to know more about her, so if anyone sees her on the street, thank her for this song, ha ha! Give her the middle finger salute too.
Just rediscovered this song after many years - its taken on a new signifigance for me because in my retirement I've been driving the school bus with some junior high girls on board. The chorus "Little miss can't be wrong" is SO right on!

Saw these guys open up for Blues Traveler in the fall of 1992 at Ithaca College in New York. My buddy was a freshman there, and I was visiting from one of the SUNY universities. It was a wild show, they were incredible live, with the bass and clean tone guitar absolutely blowing me away. There was no doubt these guys would blow up shortly, and they did. As a funny aside, my friend's roommates were approached after the show by Chris Barron. He was wandering the campus, asking where he could score some pot lol. Super nice guy, great memories of the early 90s)).
I put this on the juke box at the bar after my buddy broke up with his girl ...... got a little chuckle outta him . Yeaaah , im a good friend . toot toot

The guitar player in this band is one of the most under rated musicians of this band's era. Great tone, perfect timing and pure rock and roll.
The guy's a beast!
Yup. Bass player too

This comment is exactly what I was thinking!!!
Try this: hear it as a country song in your head. Lead banjo, fiddle, a little pedal steel riding shotgun. You'll never unhear it now.
My brother met the lead singer back in the day. Said he was the most nicest and chillest dude ever. Why am I not surprised.
Totally❤❤❤😊
I met him and his girlfriend in Knoxville TN. 1993 ish working as a bellhop. Very chill.
