    If you put the top down and stick your arm over the door an alarm goes off, there's a proximity sensor down by the key in the middle console between the seats that uses some kind of ultrasonic device (basically its one of those "backup sensors" that beeps when it detects something close using sonar), so even if the car is locked and the top is down anyone messing with your car will set off the alarm.

    E Euro parts sells the lithium batteries for the alarm box. It is on the drivers side fender well. The box has to be cut open with a Dremel. The batteries are soldered in the box. I did this repair on my 02 Saab 9-3 conv.

    Way too late I know but Saab's were my thang for a long time. TWICE = Theft Warning Integrated Central Electronics. If the alarm is randomly going off its the back-up batteries on the alarm module. The rechargeable batteries for the siren loose capacity over the years hence the "service theft alarm" message on the dash. You need to remove the theft alarm unit from underneath the seat and unsolder the old batteries and replace with new batteries of the same or higher capacity.

  • @jetjazz05
    @jetjazz05 7 лет назад +1

    Oh, also... I actually bought a knockoff Tech II (a GM scan tool), you have to sync the Tech II WITH the appropriate Saab software downloaded onto the 32mb chip that gets inserted into the tech 2, then load software you need to pay membership from GM for on a computer that HAS to have a 32bit operating system, basically an ancient windows XP machine WITH an old serial port (forgot the exact type), I happened to run a virtual windows xp machine and get a usb to serial connector that simulates the proper serial port... then the software talks to the tech 2 and okays that particular Saab to be reprogrammed. I want to say things like ABS modifications, adding and removing keys, the theft alarm, on 2001 and up Saabs mess with the onstar options (which can be problematic in the convertibles, water seeps down the onstar antenna into the module and sets the alarm off just like the anti theft device did on this one). There's a TON of things you can read with the tech 2 however, every sensor, actuating pretty much all solenoids for testing, a few self tests as well. Basically in a world where Saab is dead it was necessary for the longevity of my Saabs for me to own a Tech 2, but it's a very convoluted system. It is NOT friendly for novices at all, it requires a lot of computer skill as well as mechanical knowledge of the cars... for me it's worth it though, I'm quite fond of the Saabs and this is the kind of stuff I do for fun anyways.

    Man o man, I got a 2003 Saab 9-3 and my son lost the only key. A few places can reprogram new keys but it's crazy expensive because the CIM module has to be shipped to them. I decided to buy a Tech2 and some other programs to do it myself. It arrived yesterday. Wish me luck!

    • @rsage_
      @rsage_ 7 лет назад

      Thanks, I actually got another CIM module from the wrecking yard along with the key that was mated to it. I believe I just have to sync the CIM/key pair from the salvaged car with my ECM. I got the Tech2 with the Saab pack along with the other components and a laptop (running XP and that has a serial port, haha) to run TIS2000. Hopefully it'll go relatively smoothly. I just don't know what to do with the hardware after I'm done.

      Or you could use a flat head screwdriver to jam in the ignition hole, bang it real hard (with a rubber mallet, of course) and then turn it counterclockwise 3 times until you hear a "click" and VOILA.... there you go. easy breezy.

    What scanner is that?
    Also, I "fixed" my alarm issue by removing the alarm module. I would like to get that programmer and disable the "service theft alarm" message. My doors still lock and unlock electronically ( I do not have a remote, but if I put my key in and turn it left twice, it will unlock both doors, and if i turn it right once, it locks both doors).

    classic when i saw your bike rack , i have same car and rack on back ,but for some reason most sold in Australia had tow balls,as we use trailers a lot to take rubbish to the tip i guess? funny.the 900 97 has t5 electronics and electric motors and sensors for the roof which also stuff up and same story costs more in labour than parts to solve the issue, so i manually do my roof as well.the engines and build quality are really good or id get rid of this car great reliable transport that handles well too

    My 1977 Volvo 245 had driver and passenger seat sensors which made the seat belt warning flash annoyingly if you didn't put them on. Of course, the passenger sensor didn't work so you had to have the belt plugged in even if nobody was sitting there or you're driving along with it flashing and ticking/beeping at you continuously. It was fuel injected and had some kind of ECU but who knows what was used to interface with that, lol.

    Yeah dude it's the alarm siren in the inner fender well, you can disassemble it yourself and replace the 2 lithium batteries inside (much cheaper than buying anew one), or buy the new one which is just a refurbished unit for something like $380 now. The batteries are about $20 but require a little bit of soldering skill and to hack apart your old one, you have to make sure you seal it up nicely again since it's an air tight unit, without some form a gasket on it it'll corrode the inside of your unit and you'll need to spend the $380 for a new one anyways. OR you could just unplug it and not have an alarm that works too... the alarm is useless tbh, these cars are so ridiculous, no one is going to hotwire this thing (the key has an immobilizer chip inside, it's pretty impossible to bypass unless you know EXACTLY what you're doing, and who's stealing a car worth 1 grand?).

    So if the siren wires, siren or connections at the siren or module are bad (similar to someone cutting the wires to the siren) the siren will go off powered by it's own battery. Wonder what the module & connection looks like under the seat especially being a convertible and letting moisture in occasionally?

    The most probable cause for the alarm behavior are the drained batteries in the siren unit. It will cause the alarm to go off during to night or randomly. Here's a swede, mr Trionic Seven, who in part 1 tell about the symptoms and workaround and in part 2 refurbishes the siren module with a set of new lithium batteries, capacitors and solder joints.
    The module under the seat might be faulty too, but empty lithium batteries in the siren module will also cause random alarm and the service the alarm message at the info screen.
    Just in case your friend want to use less than $50 and has basic soldering skills, this could be an low cost fix for this issue.

    1:04 If car alarm horn has its own batterys then takeing car battery cable off the car shouldnt stop the warning horn. I mean thats why there is extra batterys in firsth place.
    So i think the Batterys in the alarm horn(not on car normal horn) are just old and cant keep charge anymore.
    And thats why there are (ones in blue moon) "service theft alarm" message so you would change the battery.

      Actually the horns keep working for a few minutes and then die out after main batt is disconnected. So yes, those backup units could indeed be getting weak!

  • @nononsenseBennett
    @nononsenseBennett 7 лет назад

    I am surprised you didn't just unplug the alarm module and then replug it and/or try using contact cleaner on the various connectors . Older cars often suffer from oxidized connections that can be solved with these techniques. Electrical issues are most likely due to bad or intermittent connections or wire that's gone bad. Cars are way too complicated now. It's time to make thing simpler! My 2 cents.

    Hey Ivan your last video of the Nissan is now a paid video of you went to a paid Channel is that the direction you were going now. Have been a subscriber for a long time but if you're going to be under a pay channel I will have to not be able to watch you any longer that would be very disappointing.

    Turned the video off when you popped up with no shirt on. I am here for car repairs not a skin show.

    I use this car. And my convertible top gets stock while I'm trying to open it. Is there a way to maintain it and make it easy to come off and come back on?
