Bloom Tour and Updates | A walk around my Orchid Flowers, Comparing two grow rooms + Meet the birds!

- Hi everyone! It's Annabel, welcome back to my channel! Grab a coffee and come look at the orchids with me! Today we are going to take a walk around the orchid flowers, look at some of the orchids in bloom, where they live in the grow room or house locations. Pulling orchids down to talk about the prettiest is great, and gives better quality footage. But it means often skipping some ( I managed to skip a lot in this video anyway XD). I find it easier to talk about orchids in their growing locations sometimes, so I hope you enjoy this type of video! We update here on my Oncidopsis Nelly Islers, and some challenges I faced with them in the conservatory following the house move, and comparing the two grow rooms. We take a look at some blooming Phalaenopsis, Oncidium and Prosthechea. Also after a few requests, Sprite and Kiwi get some camera time so you can meet the birds!

Hi everyone! Just wanted to thank you all. I'm really overwhelmed by all your lovely, positive comments, sharing your stories and experiences, it really means alot to me to be a part of such a great community 💗🤗
I miss your orchid films. Hope you and your orchids are doing ok. ❤
Your orchids are unbelievable! A girl can dream...loved seeing your birds! I have birds as well. They are amazing...it's one of those situations where when you know, you know.
Hi Annabel! Great video, so beautiful blooms as always! 🌼🌸Love your parrots! 🐦 Thanks for sharing! ☺ 🌞
Love the rene marquez cross..beautiful lip. and the digbyana cross..nice blooms. thanks for sharing
Whatever is spiking at the end there, I hope it is the Bangkok Sunset ... YAY!! FOR REAL!! love the format and the narration 🥰
I hope it is too!💗💗💗
Magnificent, I love these updates. You’re the best, the results speak for themselves! My dream
Thanks Ian!!😀🤗
Nice show loved the relaxed format. 👍
Thankyou 🙂
I agree with you - Animals and plants ARE better than people! Beautiful birds! Fantastic collection!!! I personally have 2 dogs. One is a Rothweiler and a second is a cross of American pitbull .
Totally with you! Say hi to your dogs for me! I'm a crazy cat lady myself, but I also think dogs are great! 🙂
@@TheOrchidRoom i love cats too... had a bangle cat... had to put him to sleep 😥😥😥 my heart is still breathing for him....
😢 So sorry!😥
@@TheOrchidRoom Thanks!!!
Lovely collection. I have enjoyed it so much that I subscribed right away 😄. I wish we have an extra room in our house so I can buy more orchids. Beautiful story with your old bird buddy.
Thankyou 🤗
your birds so lovely
I love your orchids. Nice to have enough time filming and showing them to us. Thank you!💜
Thank you for sharing the fruits of your labor. Every plant and flower is absolutely beautiful and I cant get enough of all of your plump and glossy leaves! Just gorgeous. I also appreciate the guest appearance of Sprite and his girlfriend. I bet that the best thing for him was coming full circle and coming back to live with you and under your care; I can’t think of a better mom. 🕊😻
Thanks for showing your birds. They're beautiful. I have had canaries and/or finches all my life but I've gotten on in age and have downsized so currently have none. Your Nellie Isler is gorgeous and I love that yellow species phal, "Fan something". Thanks for a great video.
Hi Mary! Thankyou 🤗 I love finches also! There is something so relaxing about keeping birds 🐦 💗 Thanks for watching!
Love orchid room tours. 😍 I would love to see video like this but show every orchid. 😊
Thanks Heidi 🙂 That would be a very long video! Maybe one video per shelf 😆😀
Beautiful 😍 all of them ... i love the cameo of your parrots .. they are the cutest 🥰 i hope the ciliaris devision will be fragrant for you. Mine is,also in bloom and is now more intense than last year and not just at night... i was over there with the orchid earlier on today and didn't have to stick my nose into the bloom, and at night when I'm at my desk, I can smell it from 4 meters away ... 🤞🏻 the division will do the same for you 🥰
I'm thinking to move Sprite and Kiwi into the lounge for more interaction time, but it would also mean their sleep pattern may be more disrupted by us. At the moment they get really good long nights without interruptions, which is pretty important I think? We don't need cranky parrots, that's for sure 😆 Thankyou so much for your divisions, I really can't detect any fragrance from mine so it will be super interesting to see/ sniff! I really am so grateful. I hope you are holding up OK 💗
I really enjoyed the tour and your format! Hope you do more this way! 😍
All your orchids are so stunning in bloom. They are all beautiful in their own way. The 2 birds are so gorgeous. I believe that they will get use to you. I love it when they chitter away. Love the videos and have a wonderful day.
Hi Kim, thankyou 🙂 have a great week!
Love your beautiful bird. I have a morning dove I raised. I have a small collection of orchids and just love seeing yours. Love, love the cherry baby.
Thankyou! Doves are awesome too, it's so lovely that you raised it yourself!💗🙂
What a nice relaxing tour of your beautiful blooms. I also enjoy seeing your beautiful birds!
What lovely blooms this month Annabelle. Everything looks so gorgeous. The sharry baby spikes are lovely, I feel like they are so easy to grow and forgiving, I love them :)) Side note, I've been adding pebbles to my semi hydro orchids to combat the top layer and it's making a big difference, roots are going down into the medium instead of drying off. Learning a lot from your experiments. Fingers crossed, they will all adapt 🤞🤞🤞Take care, and have a great Sunday!
Hi Nicole! Thanks so much, I appreciate it 🤗 I'm super happy with the progress! I'm so glad to hear you are finding success in semi-hydro. Keep me posted and have a great week! 🙂
Love all your videos and it's wonderful to have a tour of your amazing orchids. I learn so much from you!!
Hi! I loved the video and format. I also really enjoyed finally getting to meet your feathered friends. 😍. Thank you for letting us see all your beautiful blooms.
Loved the video and format. I find that seeing real life setups - in grow rooms and around the house - is very helpful. Since you started with Nelly Islers and ended (almost) with your birds - I wonder if you’ve ever chatted with Danni from Miss Orchid Girl. Seems like a potential friendship made in heaven. 🥰
Hi Debra! Lovely to hear from you 🙂 Thankyou! I find the same, it gives a bit more info about light levels and what other plants a plant is growing near in similar conditions to. But it is a little more messy. I hope that isn't off putting! I've commented on Danni's videos before on my personal account, but never chatted with her, I really respect everything she does! But as a big RUclipsr I expect she has been burned by enough people to be wary of random emails, I really wouldn't want to bother her! I love watching her bird videos and posts also so will continue to support her from afar 🙂 Brexit would make it difficult now, but before I thought if I ever get an interesting seedling cross out of the flask, it would be fun to send her some. But exporting will be challenging after next year 😥
Just love your videos, it doesn’t matter what format either, I just love watching your plants. The birds are beautiful, you could see them responding to your voice as you were talking about them. Look forward to your next show.
Audible gasp when I got to the Sharry Baby. 😍
She's lovely isn't she!
@@TheOrchidRoom She is!
@@danielm.1441 I'm just starting my orchid collection and the Sharry Baby is definitely on my radar as my first Oncidium type!
Great fragrance too, best onci fragrance aside from Nelly islers IMO 🙂
@@TheOrchidRoom I have one which is either Aliceara Samurai 'Renaissance Grandeur Frangrant' (if you ask Currlin) OR Miltonidium Bartley Star (if you ask Wichmann) and the smell from it is fabulous & powerful, the blooms are pretty big (and pretty!).
My favourite so far!
so glad the collection is doing so well. cheers
My wife and I just love you and your channel!!! Brilliant format and such amazing production value!!! Love the birds!!! 🙄
Hey! Great to hear from you again, thankyou 🙂 I really appreciate it, sometimes I doubt about video quality and it's great to hear you say you enjoy them 🙂
The garden is amazing, Ma Shaa Allah
Everything is beautiful!😍
I love the gorgeous displays, I'm quite jealous, since I moved cities I am struggling with keeping my orchids happy and well adjusted, so I don't have lots in bloom at the moment.
I also loved the Quaker feature, they are adorable and I want to snuggle them lots. I used to have birds, and I also had to leave them with my mum when I went off to Uni, and it hurt me to do so. They are no longer alive, sadly, they were budgies, and got old and sick quite a few years ago.
Hi Ryan! I'm sorry, I understand the difficulties following a move and I'm sorry yours are taking a bit longer to adjust. I hope it works out for you OK soon! It is super hard leaving pets at home when you have to move away, Sprite was extremely aggressive when I got him back but he seems to be calming down now a bit and getting used to me. I'm sorry about the budgies though, I used to keep them too and they are so much fun to have about.
ahh i just recently purchased both the parents of your rhynchodendron and i was actually wondering what a hybrid might look like 😍👌 it is so lovely to see what is possible and yours is so beautifully grown
fu shu is nice even without the stripes. tour style works, you have a steady enough hand for it
OMG your Nellys are fabulous. By far the most challenging orchid I have... struggling :/
They can be tricky! I never had any issues with them at all before I put them in a baking conservatory 😆🤦♀️
All were so overwhelming in eyes to see. Can I ask where do you purchased those hybrids different kinds of orchids. I want some of them to give to my Grandma as a Gift. 😍😍😍
“There’s this fantastic window space that I should be taking advantage of because... orchids” well if that isn’t a mood I don’t know what is
Yasssss 💗😀
Did anything came out of the phal x cls pod? that's such an exciting cross, would love to see one bloom
I have 2 cats and I definitely like plants and animals more than people
Would love to see more names on the screen and for a longer time
Usually I do for the more setup bloom videos, I have them in a series if that helps, most of the orchids in this video have been in those videos before 🙃 but this was just a very casual tour of the grow room. Some of the ones mentioned are also written in the description. Or if they aren't and you want to know a specific orchid, feel free to comment with a time stamp, I will always get back to you.
Beautiful blooms/buds! Especially the Gomesa Crispa.
Speaking of Gomesa, I have a Gomesa Flexuosa (formerly known as Oncidium Flexuosum).
Do you know any care tips for it?
Thank you!
Thankyou 🙂 I have Gomesa crispa and Gomesa recurva, and both take standard oncidium care really. Crispa makes very long aerial roots so it's on an orchitop so that they find their way back to the pot eventually 🙂
I have an African gray parrot I have had for 35 years now....his name is “Kahlua”.
Awww! I love greys! Say hello for me! We fostered a grey once, Pepsi, had a thing for drinks names apparently. He was rescued from an elderly gentleman who couldn't afford a cage so kept him in a cat carrier. He had feather plucked but we got him back to full plumage and happy and healthy, he would wonder around the house calling out for attention! We were only looking after him until he could be rehomed by the lady organising though. I wish we could have kept him but it wouldn't have been the right time. I'd like to get one one day maybe, when we are more settled 🙂
Hey Annabelle. Where did you get your Happy Fan Sir? I keep searching for it but can't find anywhere that sells it! Wishing you a nice day and congratulations on your studies!
I think you will really like fragrance of your Gomesa crispa. Mine flowered for the first time in December last year and I can't remember exactly its fragrance. But it smelled quite strongly of some spring flowers (either violets, daffodils or narcissi I think). You will find out soon. mine is very behind yours. great video as always
I bought this one after seeing your flowers! 🌼💗 You're the one that inspired me to get a couple of Gomesa. I love it already for these big spikes, but will love it even more if fragrant!
@@TheOrchidRoom well, what can I say. We have very good taste in orchids and seem to inspire each other 🤔😉 My birthday is coming up soon and I'm allowed to get few new orchids 😈😇🤔
When is your birthday? You deserve a treat right now! 🙂 Although my car died so I have to stop thinking this way until after Christmas 🤦♀️😅
@@TheOrchidRoom 5 treats from Orchid Botanics should be on their way already. I've found species Dendrobium named after a doctor in Philippines. His name is also Milan so there's Milan's Dendrobium aka Dendrobium milaniae 🎉🎉🎉👻👻👻
This is my first haul mind you 😇😇😇
My birthday is on Saturday 🤫🤫🤫
I didn't have a very good experience with them, so I would be interested to hear how yours are! I didn't complain, probably should have but I was just sad and didn't want an argument. That dendrobium sounds just perfect! Milanae! How fitting! 💗 Happy birthday for Saturday if we don't speak before then, I'm sure we will! 🙂
Beautiful orchids, can you let me know which fertilizer do you used for the phalaenopsis? They look gorgeous?

You may also wish to check my most recent video (vanda updates) toward the end for an explanation of why fertiliser is of secondary importance to other cultural factors! Thanks for watching 🙂
Lovely 😊
PS- have you ever repotted any of your pinguiculas? I’m guessing they need fresh media at some point.
Thankyou! Well, not really? They grow in bogs, they don't care about acidity and don't root deeply anyway 🤷♀️ Most of mine are in synthic or Sphagnum. I've repotted them yes, but only to give bigger pots. All nutrients are absorbed through the foliage anyway, so there isn't any urgency to repot them until the grow out of the pots IMO.
@@TheOrchidRoom Thanks for that. I’ve had mine a couple of years and they flower beautifully.
Hi Annabel, great orchids, we. Enjoying u greenhouse. Pls tell us u fertilizer schedule of all year with ppm.
Thankyou! Some videos that may be helpful with your question 🙂

My Watering / Fertilising Routine: ruclips.net/video/p87-HcOuRTE/видео.html (Full, detailed, long)
My orchids are in lava rock, and I water every 2 days. I must cut feed of u schedule? U water 1 per week and me 3.so I'm must 1300 ppm /3???
If you're watering more often it makes no difference to the ppm, you may want to feed lower even because you're doing dry cycles with the Lava, and fertiliser burn is more likely to happen during a dry cycle. All the ppm of each nutrient is shown in the longer fertiliser video, fertiliser can't really be generalised as we are all using different fertilisers and our orchids will be growing at different rates. You want to look at percentages of each major and micro nutrient and use ppm as a guide only. When they are growing more, fertilise and water more, when growing less fertilise less, is a good rule of thumb to go by.
I like bird tricks channel too
Me too! Jamie Lee and Dave are so wonderful with their birds.
I think your noID equestris type hybrid might be Phal. little lady 'Soft Cloud'?
Thankyou! There are too many similar to put an ID on I think unfortunately 🤔 Firm IDs are pretty important only if you want to hybridise, with any uncertainty you couldn't pollinate and register the cross, so I'm happy having these as NoID phals to enjoy their flowers only.
@@TheOrchidRoom For the ones where I'm pretty convinced I will label them with that I think it is (in fact, just a number, and the excel tracks what they are), and put 'cf' as Dustin recommends (HereButNot) which is a great idea in my opinion. It's a tentative ID, sure, but it helps you remember what it looks like out of bloom (I take photos also).
mam how many orchids do you have and how long did it take to collect all that.- by a fan

I've always meant to ask you what camera do you use? Lovely lovely blooms
Thanks Jane 🙂 I just use my phone, Samsung Galaxy S10🙂
@@TheOrchidRoom damn that's the same phone I have.. I'd have to mess around with the camera settings you have such good lighting, too..
I can't think you enough for all the guidance that you're giving your videos...
Yeah I agree it isn't the best camera in lower light conditions, I find the quality goes quite grainy if I don't film with enough light! I have some footage of an unboxing I'm struggling to use because the quality dropped where it was filmed at night, under artificial lights only 😥 would love to get a proper camera one day but for now it's fine and affordable!
OMG, maybe you will have a BLUE PHALAENOPSIS
I hope so! If it does come to anything, Phals are one of the quickest to bloom out of the flask, and usually offspring inherit a large proportion of features from the seed parent. Keep your fingers crossed for it!
@@TheOrchidRoom it could be revolutionary, 🤞🤞🤞🤞
"I've got quite a lot of No ID orchids"
Until you decide to start thinning the collection and they're the first to go (because that's often how it is as our experience and tastes change).
"I'm 28 now"
Lies. You're not that old.
The Quakers look good. Mine never tried to nest, not once, despite them being a male/female pair (I'd give them nest materials but they would just shred it). IME, they're one of the easier birds to tame or retame, it's just the cage aggression that is hard to get past. I would open the cage door and they'd climb out and on top of the cage and they were fine being handled but, if I put my hand in the cage, it was war.
I totally agree. My dendrobium NoID nobile and phalaenopsis/ phalananthe/ bigibbum / whatever they are called type hybrids will be first on the chopping block I think.
I'm that old unfortunately 😂 Still don't feel like an adult. When does that kick in?
These ones nested and laid eggs in a spare food bowl, but Sprite is maybe a bit too old if you know what I mean. I took the food bowl away to stop them trying again! They are such cuties. I've noticed a big difference in a few months, I'm thinking of moving them into the lounge so they get more attention as we walk past the cage, now that they are less scared and aggressive. I'd like to try taking them out at some point, but that can't happen in the conservatory really.... I hope sprite at least will come around. You can still see he is curious about people 🙂💗
