@chrissy christoff not necessarily saying she's depressed or that she exactly meant to make the album about that, just saying that's the vibe i get from it because it fits well enough what i know from my experience. If you get a different feeling from it or maybe less intense version, whatever you wanna say about it, then that's fine too
This song was written as a call for people to be more open about their mental health. "'Rose-Colored Boy' is a song about feeling pressured to look at the world with blind optimism when you actually feel very hopeless about the world and your part in it," the band explained "There is so much social pressure to be (or appear to be) "happy" that we can actually feel shame when we aren't." "Adding shame to sadness is a pretty toxic cocktail," they added. "It's hard enough to deal with sadness, depression, or any type of anxiety without the added societal expectations. It's important and more healing to meet people where they're at - EMPATHY - than to try and paint everything rosy."
After Laughter is what happens when Emo kids grow up to be young adults with jobs and the pressure of responsibility and independence, trying to just be happy when it’s never that simple. Hayley has always wanted to be a singer just how I always wanted to be a paramedic... now she has her band and even a Grammy and yet she’s not happy but sometimes the opposite, just like how I just graduated from nursing school at 22yrs but now there’s nights when I can’t sleep. I can relate to songs like this sooo much and that is why Paramore is forever one of my all time favorite bands and After Laughter one of my all time favorite albums.
For all those that don’t like the new retro sound you probably don’t get it. Hayley and the rest of the band are not the same people they were 10yrs ago and although Riot! and Brand New Eyes were amazing albums the bands sound needed to change because they’ve changed. To be stuck in the past is to not be moving forward. Paramore is still Paramore because they are making music that represents them now and not who they were.
Kairo Castillo YESSS!! I’m tired of people bashing them for their new sound and calling them a sellout. Although the 80’s music wise has made a comeback, people can’t expect them to stay the same forever. People mature, and change as they get older it’s just a matter of fact and life :/// And if people don’t like their new sound, that is fine, but don’t be trying to spread hate by calling them a bandwagon and stuff. And they still have the great lyrics like in their older music :)
Paramore's evolution is basically the process of a pre-teen growing up until adulthood, anyone here feels like their music form a soundtrack to our lives?
being that i first listened to all we know is falling at age 9 and am now 21, their music has 100% served as a lil personal soundtrack to my life. so happy they're still around and thriving.
3:07 "Hayley... what are you doing? This isn't you. What are you doing?" This moment is so freaking powerful. It's so sad, so real. The way Hayley looks to herself as child, man. Sometimes, we all need to make ourselves this question, what are we doing with our lives. Working all the time, feeling anxiety, depression. Doing things that we don't wanna do, everyday. Just take a breath, follow your dreams.
My father was a broadcast meteorologist for 19 years, and growing up I'd often visit him at the TV station. And I am CRYING over how accurate this is for a lot of people we knew there, my dad included!
When Hayley dances on the table at the end that's low key how she dances at the concerts and it just makes me so happy and brings back amazing concert memories

I'm honestly concerned for hayley's mental health after everything... the divorce, the lawsuit, the pressure from fans, this must be so overwhelming for her. Hayley, if you're seeing this, I hope you're doing well. You're a good person, you have a lot of talent on your hands and there is no shame in taking care of yourself, taking care of your mental health and giving yourself a break. The people who support you will always understand. This is also true for everyone out there who's going through a lot recently. You're valid, you're loved, people care about you even if you don't notice it yet. Don't listen to what depression has to say because it's not true, it's the chemicals in your brain playing bad tricks on you Edit: its been 11 months since i posted this and im a bit shocked at how much repercussion it took. I am glad that what i said made someone's day, thank you You are valid, you deserve to be happy
Idgaf chill not exactly sure about what happened with her marriage but they did split up. and back in like 2016 there was a lawsuit with their old bassist jeremy davis against hayley and taylor about copyright issues i believe on the self tiled album. they settled on an agreement in 2017

I liked the video. Paramore has been doing a good job for the After laughter's singles. Hayley portraits exactly how I sometimes feel at work. No one really asks you if you are ok or if you are having a good day, everyone just nods along during the whole day even though you can be having an awful day. I liked the honesty Hayley portraits in here one would think the video could be something totally different.
aina yea I felt this on a personal level too, I know it’s probably opposite in the video but I take it as I guess myself looking back to the old me, and how happy I was now looking at my bitter self

It's really unreal how talented they are. Some of the best song writing I've ever heard in my life on every single album. Thank you, Paramore, for these genuine and wonderful tunes
Ur right they're genuine. It's a big surprise for me to watch MV like this in this era. Did not even expect it would came out this good unlike with the other artists' lame MV presentation.
When Haley sees her younger self, gives me full chills and a bit choked up, it makes me think about my younger self that was a dreamer and was writing often. I feel I am a shred of who I once was, never thought fear and depression would affect my life.
This is going to sound corny, but I think you are still the person you were before... But you're more, too. I think of that scene in Moana where she realizes that she is the hero because she chooses to be...and she remembers who she is, where she comes from, and where she's going. I think you can still call up the good things you've been and done before. But you can add to that the learning, depth, compassion and understanding you've gained since then. Nothing is ever truly lost forever.
Okay, so this is FANTASTIC. A friend of mine just gave a talk in front the school that gives the same message and vibes of this song: it's okay to have emotions other than happiness. To constantly be smiling and happy is something we're constantly told to do to "lead healthy lives" even though it does the exact opposite. Sick video Paramore.
I've always appreciated Paramore, but I absolutely LOVE the mature direction they took in After Laughter. The sound and subject matter deviate so much from what made them famous, but they nail it
This adult Paramore really brings a lot to the table! So many young bands burn out and put out shallow crap, trying to sit in their early days, but here you can see how they've evolved. Well done!
The 3:28 reference to Bill O’reilly “going nuts live” had me laugh so hard when I saw the first time 😂😂😂😂😂 I love it. My fav song from AL album. I listen to this song every to help with my depression and anxiety!
lo Just saw it, it's hilarious. I don't know who specifically made the decision to include that in the video, but kudos to them! Great little mock-skit!
I sincerely wanna say thanks for making a video like this. It's really confusing what's happening right now, but it's very re-assuring to see that others have trouble walking the tight rope as well. Thank You
when you stop to think about the story behind this song (it's actually about Hayley's struggle with mental-health issues) and relate it to the video, you can actually see it's probably one of their saddest and most powerful ones - and also one of the best. mental health should never be taken any less seriously than any other issue and people tend to forget that. thank you for bringing these issues to the mainstream light. be strong Hayley, be strong guys.
This album really hit hard for me, at the time that it came out. I had just finally found out that I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, before that I struggled with being “happy.” Suppressing my true feelings. My therapist at the time told me I needed to cry more, so this song in particular really meant a lot to me. I don’t always need to be happy, because that isn’t always possible. However I feel a lot better after crying, because it helps cope with the pain, and helps me grow. This song is my anthem with my battle with accepting crying as a strength and not a weakness.
I hope you are better now, my friend ! Thank you for sharing your story. It has awoken ineffable feelings within me and surely within the rest of the viewers of it. Have a good day nonetheless.
Liam Harris Oh my god, i didn’t notice that. But i love that because the smiles look “fake” and when it fades you can see how she’s truly feeling inside and her realization of those feelings wow
what makes me sad is that 2:48 represents how Hayley used to think during their selftitled era. when Taylor was depressed she thought that if he was willing to be happy he could be. but then she started struggling with depression herself and only then did she understand that you can't just get over your depression by "smiling more" etc. I am so happy though that Taylor helped her through all of that even though she didn't do the same for him a few years ago.
I thought that this is what Hayley was going through as most of the album is the stuff she has been through like hard times and forgiveness. I don't think she mentioned that it was about Taylor.
It's about Chad, actually. Chad wrote a song with his side project (What's Eating Gilbert - Bad Mood) about how he hated how his other half was always miserable and wishes she'd stop being a misery, this is a reply.
Barry Walsh yes, this is about hayley but taylor started struggling with depression before her, probably around 2013 when she was still convinced she could be this "superhuman"
jeehyeMusica they released a video for every song I bought because they were the best on the album. Rose color boy, told you so, fake happy, and hard times.
This really may be your best music video, guys. The symbolism, the costumes, the editing, the fact all 3 of you are in it and get to shine, the EVERYTHING. So proud of this band for this level of self expression.
12 years has past since I first heard about Paramore, I've grown so much and Paramore too, I had my ups and donws and alwyas there was a song that I could relate in my life. This Album is so my life right now, back in 2007 Riot was my motto, in 2013 you release your self-selfittled album and 4 day before my birthday and on my birthday party I broke up with my first boy friend, "still into you" played several times on my ipod. Now Its time for After Laughter in my life... Hard times + Rose-Colored Boy + Fake Happy + Told you So ... Thanks for keep playing my life's soundtrack.
Rafael Vidor Same I found them during late 2005 with their first album "All we Know is Falling", when listening to "A Fever you Can't Sweat Out" by Panic! At the Disco and "Almost Here" by The Academy Is... my uncle suggested that I had to listen to Paramore and instantly fell in love with them. Being such a long time fan I've only ever been to 1 concert but by that time Zac and Josh Farro had departed the band.
I immediately watched this video when it came out and I just love how they portrait this fake happy feeling. Just perfect. I absolutely love the 80s vibe in this music video. And again the fake happy smile at the video :)
This song speaks to me. The video itself makes me think about how you don't actually know what's behind a person's smile or what they're actually going through in life. Hayley has been through a lot and I'm just so glad she seems to be doing great now!!!
Ok,production wise, acting wise, originality...this is the best Paramore music video and I'm proud of my favorite band and proud I got on stage with them. You guys re my heroes and make me feel company in my misery
My now ex-girlfriend loves Paramore, and she used to jokingly send this song to me in order to describe my love for her because she used to hate herself. Despite that, we had a good 3 years together. But I let her down, and she wanted to leave. I have absolutely no bad feelings towards her and I wish her the absolute best. If you decide to watch this video and happen to read the comments to see this, Ri; I hope you have a great life, and I’m sorry for hurting you. From your “rose colored boy” ❤️
imnotafangirlimajasmine its more like pop punk and disco, real punk is a lot harder and louder. It’s still a really good blend though, the 70s disco sound mixed with that pop punk chorus is incredible
Alexander Parkin most 80s pop is basically disco, except without the trumpets and violins but its still got the funky guitar groove to it plus the four on the floor beat, so you could definitely call it disco. I’d say the only 80s thing about the song is the way the drums sound, but the guitar and bass is pure disco
This song represents the side I usually don't show to the world and the people I love. It's amazing they've captured my deepest core. Only Paramore can do that. Thanks for these quarter life crisis jams now I've come out a little and realise there is nothing to be ashamed about.
I've been a fan since the early 2000's. Never been to a performance though. For some reason I started watching heaps of Paramore videos a few months ago (probably my eternal love for Hayley). Through Fueled by Ramen I discovered they were playing in Melbourne Australia this week. No friends wanted to go. No family were able to go. What would you do? I decided to go on my own because I couldn't live with myself if I missed this opportunity. So if you see a middle aged gentleman rocking out on his own tomorrow, give me a high five.
You'll be just fine not going with anyone you know. Paramore fans are generally very nice (I was qeueing (queuing?? Idk) for the show I went to and it was a lot of fun. Had a good time with people of very different ages. :D)
I think the part with young Hayley is a good representation of how anxiety can work at times. Having multiple voices overlapping with overwhelming doubt, fear, &/or confusion ://
Snehartho Dey Bonnie McKee did it in 2016 with her Bombastic EP, as well as Carly Rae Jepsen with her Emotion album in 2015. I love Paramore but they wern’t the first to bring the 80’s back.
I love how the whole album is basically depression to an 80s beat. Very aesthetic.
That's basically my life
Literally my entire existence lmfaooo

Hayley really got into character and she did it amazing

CHumberto López Thanksss💘
I read hayley as lindsey???
*THE LONG WAIT IS OVER, DEFINITELY WORTH THE WAIT 10/10*
10 out of 10 would watch again
Dj Branch 10/10 have watched again haha
11/10 💖
I thought this day would never come
olla 👍
Okay, so this is FANTASTIC. A friend of mine just gave a talk in front the school that gives the same message and vibes of this song: it's okay to have emotions other than happiness. To constantly be smiling and happy is something we're constantly told to do to "lead healthy lives" even though it does the exact opposite. Sick video Paramore.
Lucy Catcher but what if you're actually happy most of the time?
Norberz i think what the comment meant was to _act_ like you’re happy. it’s not healthy to always slap on a smile even though you’re not happy
Well done!
i agree but they still have that early vibe but it's more mature and organized now.
Exactly! 👏
Best pmore video ever. If this closes the AL era, I would think it ended on the best note, literally.
I love this paramore, being honest and keeping it real.
The 3:28 reference to Bill O’reilly “going nuts live” had me laugh so hard when I saw the first time 😂😂😂😂😂
I love it. My fav song from AL album. I listen to this song every to help with my depression and anxiety!
lo Just saw it, it's hilarious. I don't know who specifically made the decision to include that in the video, but kudos to them! Great little mock-skit!
SHE'S SO FRICKING BEAUTIFUL I CAN'T
Professional Fangirl! i love paramore, you might like my music too, check it out!
Russo Wintergreen What?? Lol
According to what study?
It said white women are the least popular group on AYI and second least popular on okcupid according to "researchers"
You should probably contact researchers and confirm their results
This song is my anthem with my battle with accepting crying as a strength and not a weakness.
great story
I hope you are better now, my friend !
Thank you for sharing your story.
It has awoken ineffable feelings within me and surely within the rest of the viewers of it.
Have a good day nonetheless.
Respect for Zac in 4:02
Amazing throw 👏
really waited for that because I can't fast forward the video. lol Zac is really a nice man.
Evangeline Dasal it pays to wait 😁
This video, fake happy and hard times all end with a smile slowly fading. That there is 'After Laughter'
Liam Harris shiet mind blown
Told you so also ends somewhat like this.
it look like there is a little story behind "After Laughter" videos. All this videos are related to the happiness somehow.
Liam Harris Oh my god, i didn’t notice that. But i love that because the smiles look “fake” and when it fades you can see how she’s truly feeling inside and her realization of those feelings wow
Liam Harris wowww man thats it!!!!!
Dude the “Hayley, what are you doing? This isn’t you.” Was such a good touch I can’t express how much I love this video
The dancing after the meltdown is gold
what makes me sad is that 2:48 represents how Hayley used to think during their selftitled era. when Taylor was depressed she thought that if he was willing to be happy he could be. but then she started struggling with depression herself and only then did she understand that you can't just get over your depression by "smiling more" etc. I am so happy though that Taylor helped her through all of that even though she didn't do the same for him a few years ago.
ilona from Paramore wow how do you know these?
ebru tarhan hayley talked about it in interviews
I thought that this is what Hayley was going through as most of the album is the stuff she has been through like hard times and forgiveness. I don't think she mentioned that it was about Taylor.
It's about Chad, actually. Chad wrote a song with his side project (What's Eating Gilbert - Bad Mood) about how he hated how his other half was always miserable and wishes she'd stop being a misery, this is a reply.
Barry Walsh yes, this is about hayley but taylor started struggling with depression before her, probably around 2013 when she was still convinced she could be this "superhuman"
what a fucking masterpiece
I DID NOT EXPECT FOR PARAMORE TO RELEASE A VIDEO FOR ROSE COLORED BOY. I'M ON THE FLOOR 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
jeehyeMusica on the floor???lol why
I didn't see it coming either!! I immediately stopped doing what I was doing, sat down (on the floor) and watched it.
jeehyeMusica they released a video for every song I bought because they were the best on the album. Rose color boy, told you so, fake happy, and hard times.
Same tbh
maybe they will release one for idle worship & forgiveness
There's so much music inside each and every Paramore song.
“oh you’re not depressed, you’re just stressed”
me: 4:02
Melanie Martinez made 13 music videos for her album x3
mbarbera. I'm both lmao
MOOD
Nastaran Nematzade k
Robert Martinez I’m well dressed, that’s something
This really may be your best music video, guys. The symbolism, the costumes, the editing, the fact all 3 of you are in it and get to shine, the EVERYTHING. So proud of this band for this level of self expression.
I am glad this guy did not shoot: ruclips.net/video/CNINbNVatDw/видео.html
Is it ok that I'm a guy that like Paramore?
Hun, it is okay to like whatever you like no matter your gender! Own it!
Thats so genuine oml
Rafael Vidor Same I found them during late 2005 with their first album "All we Know is Falling", when listening to "A Fever you Can't Sweat Out" by Panic! At the Disco and "Almost Here" by The Academy Is... my uncle suggested that I had to listen to Paramore and instantly fell in love with them. Being such a long time fan I've only ever been to 1 concert but by that time Zac and Josh Farro had departed the band.
theSilentCartographer I miss Zach and Josh but life goes on and sometimes changes are needed!
Rafael Vidor zac is right there. Do you mean Jeremy?
I feel you.
2023. This song still rocks. Hayley. 😍
YESSSSSSSSSS
Still love it ❤❤❤❤
*YES YES YES YES YES SOO MUCH YES*
Darius Gray exactly
This video was so good!! Also props to whoever did Hayley's hair because it's AMAZING
willing to bet it was Brian
Fallschapter and you can see him at 1:26-27
Oh my gosh you're right. I didn't realize it was Brian
Hayley is incredibly stunning I don't think I can handle it!!
kinda weird how well they feel like they felt in this time period haha
I know that the meaning is deep and all, but is noone going to compliment how gorgeous Hailey looks? I mean woah, that retro look looks good on her.
it's a given, but might I say she's freaking hot in here
That look is inspired in her mom, hehe
Ikr? 😊
She can rock any look
Erm anything looks good on her I really want to meet her however in the uk so probably not unfortunately 😢😢
DAMN. this is such a well told depiction of depression
I immediately watched this video when it came out and I just love how they portrait this fake happy feeling. Just perfect. I absolutely love the 80s vibe in this music video. And again the fake happy smile at the video :)
Telling a depressed person that they should smile is like telling a person with a broken leg that they should start jogging.
Jogging not that hard with a broken leg
@@ran9946 why dont we try it on you.
Lmao not even close. Which would you rather do, smile when depressed or jog with a broken leg?
@@poggodoggo5838 I think that´s fair
@@CollectorsCorner777 what would you prefer then?
That football throw from Zac at 4:02 was so satisfying to watch ☺️
Thank you ! :) Rewatching this made me laugh ! ^^
It's impossible for Paramore to produce a bad music video
Didn't know the official anthem of 2018 would come so early.
Can the official anthem of the year be a song from last year? Ah fuck it, it's Paramore!
I wouldn’t say it’s original but it’s really fucking good so I don’t mind ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Paramore, you literally saved my life few times. Please keep doing this.
I like the aesthetic of this song
Pikachu On RUclips reminds me of Jboy by Phoenix - which of course is also directed by Warren Fu
It's a cry for help. :((((
You like the beauty of this song?
You mean the A E S T H E T I C XD
People overuse that word now.
this song never gets old NO MATTER HOW MUCH I LISTEN I NEVER GET BORED
LOW KEY, NO PRESSURE, JUST HANG WITH US AND OUR WEATHER #TeamParamore
I want to throw a coffee cup now.
ChrisVigilante me too
Mug*
@@lil_weasel219 cups alright too.
☕ here you go, be careful it's hot!
A TOTAL MOOOOOOOD
This is now my favorite music video ever bye
My now ex-girlfriend loves Paramore, and she used to jokingly send this song to me in order to describe my love for her because she used to hate herself.
Despite that, we had a good 3 years together. But I let her down, and she wanted to leave. I have absolutely no bad feelings towards her and I wish her the absolute best.
If you decide to watch this video and happen to read the comments to see this, Ri; I hope you have a great life, and I’m sorry for hurting you.
From your “rose colored boy” ❤️
yikes
💀💀💀
I like paramore I think I might do this if I have a partner 😂
For those of you who dont know, at 3:27 Hayley is parodying Billy O'Reily when he went crazy while broadcasting. Its hilarious.
Was that the thing that had something to do with Sting (the musician, not the wrestler)
Stuart Holt Yes, thats the one
That's.... the perfect blend of punk rock and disco
imnotafangirlimajasmine Punk Rock?xD
imnotafangirlimajasmine not punk but yeah lol
imnotafangirlimajasmine its more like pop punk and disco, real punk is a lot harder and louder. It’s still a really good blend though, the 70s disco sound mixed with that pop punk chorus is incredible
Have you actually listened to either of these genres?
Alexander Parkin most 80s pop is basically disco, except without the trumpets and violins but its still got the funky guitar groove to it plus the four on the floor beat, so you could definitely call it disco. I’d say the only 80s thing about the song is the way the drums sound, but the guitar and bass is pure disco
The little smile that slowly faded at the end. I’m crying
Savannah Stevens same ☹️
That is After Laughter 🙃
who's doing a Paramore marathon and getting ready for their comeback this 2021? :)
yessir
yassssss xD !
Are they??
WHAT ARE THEY STOP DON'T PLAY LIKE THAT GIRL
@@nternetrat they are making music again, not sure tho the new album drops in 2021
it´s such honor to be fan of paramore
This song represents the side I usually don't show to the world and the people I love. It's amazing they've captured my deepest core. Only Paramore can do that. Thanks for these quarter life crisis jams now I've come out a little and realise there is nothing to be ashamed about.
“You say my eyes are getting too dark now well boy you ain’t ever seen my mind” idk a more deep and relatable lyric
Ikr
I love how they synced the high-pitched "cry" at 4:02 with the ball hitting the man's face. The editing, the dancing, the lighting 🤌👌
Me too 😂😂😂
Paramore never fails......
Vincent Vega amem bro
R.I.P paramore
I nominate this for best music video of 2018 who’s with me
zebra city um no
Though i really loved this one I still like fake happy the best
zebra city from thr Philippines with love yes
Agree.
hold your horses. A new P!atd album's coming and you know how weird their videos get
This looks so 80s. I love it !!
Thanks, Sherlock
ivan bernardo you're welcome Watson
When people ask me what type of music I like.. I can only say Paramore. No matter what mood I am in there's a song for me. This is a great example.
Jonathan Sekhon lol I'm going alone too. If no one wants to go then fuck it! We'll go alone! 😂 #PARAMORETOURFOURMNL
I found this really touching. Gave me chills.
Jonathan Sekhon have fun!! They're amazing live, I love the vibe and they are just so nice :) saw them about 6 months ago.
You'll be just fine not going with anyone you know. Paramore fans are generally very nice (I was qeueing (queuing?? Idk) for the show I went to and it was a lot of fun. Had a good time with people of very different ages. :D)
they are so amazing you will love it
Definitely one of the best Paramore music video
Ophelia C. Misery Business or Crushcrushcrush was best... or Pressure
AndyShredz rcb equal to those( tho im not sure bout crushcrushcrush ims)
Matheus Felipe Agreed what is this sorcery what happened to Paramore that made them 1 of a kind.
AndyShredz neh, this is better
if not the best! this era has the best audiovisual concepts. Best paramore era, like ever.
I think the part with young Hayley is a good representation of how anxiety can work at times. Having multiple voices overlapping with overwhelming doubt, fear, &/or confusion ://
one of their most underrated songs, criminally underatted at that
1:14 that book saying "real happy" as an easter egg of Fake happy lmao
She writes fake happy on the book at the end
In 4:15
@@UNKN0WNSHAD0W I love that!
This is what I wanna hear on the radio. Easily one of the best songs by Paramore.
you guys never disappoint. thank you for always being here to show your true selves and help us feel good. Love you always
I love that cheerleader-esq chant that’s being sung in this song. And that chorus is perfection. What a great song.
So Paramore are bearing the flag to bring back 80s retro pop? Great for us. I hope more artists do follow
Snehartho Dey Bonnie McKee did it in 2016 with her Bombastic EP, as well as Carly Rae Jepsen with her Emotion album in 2015. I love Paramore but they wern’t the first to bring the 80’s back.
Snehartho Dey If you are liking thier new sound try out The Wombats. If you havnt heard them yet, I think you will like them.
bands have been doing this much much longer than Paramore has. Paramore hopped on the bandwagon not the other way haha
A lot of artist are doing this already. Even rap stars
Bruno do it first. He is always doing music like MJ
So happy they made a video for my favorite song. It's perfect.
Our Green Branch Did they not write this song?
I knoww
My favorite song on this albim
This video is literally amazing.
Carys Mai literally.
Carys Mai ikr! And me and you have really similar names tbh xD my name is Cerys May
Carys Mai YUS

Carys Mai oh thanks for confirming i thought it was figuratively amazing my bad
Remains my favorite song from this album. Props to anyone who understands the "We'll do it live!" reference. :)
It’s good, but it’s so early on in the track list. What are your thoughts on Idle Worship and Tell Me How?
