I swear this band represents the scene kids of the 2000s. And there’s nothing emo/scene kids love more than drama. So this band filled with drama makes complete sense
Yep, drama created by overprivileged myopic white kids for overprivileged myopic white kids. It honestly makes me feel so much better about the recent transition of mainstream far-western music away from these styles into "computer music" (EDM, trap, soundscapes etc.)
I will always think Brand New Eyes is Paramore’s greatest album while also acknowledging how rough the making of the album was for the band members. I doubt Hayley, Zac, and Taylor look back on that era fondly due to all the band in-fighting at the time. I just think the album’s songwriting and energy is off-the-charts amazing and I think the Fleetwood Mac “Rumours” energy coming off it makes it even more intriguing.
@@theplourde I just looked on the Wikipedia page for the This is Why tour and they've played 7 of the 11 songs from BNE. Only ones they haven't played are Turn It Off, Looking Up, Feeling Sorry, and Where the Lines Overlap. That's actually pretty good for an album that's 14 years old now. Compare that to them only playing That's What You Get and Misery Business from Riot! (yes, no CrushCrushCrush for whatever reason not even once) and only Pressure and Here We Go Again from AWKIF, BNE is actually being represented pretty well.
Paramore having sold a total of 7 Million Records is considerably lower than I thought. Artists like Lady Gaga, Linkin Park, and Gorillaz have sold more than that in a single album alone. They Definitely deserve more.
Well, it’s should be noted that album sales for all artists since roughly 2012 have taken a massive nosedive thanks to streaming, and Paramore really only started blowing up around their self titled album in 2013 thanks to the radio hits. Most of what they make from their music comes from their tours and streaming.
@@danielpatterson1576 Agreed. Album sales as a metric are essentially non-existent now. Prime example would be Tool knocking Taylor Swift out of the #1 album sales slot back in 2019. I love Tool and was beyond happy to see them finally release a new CD 13 years after they released "10,000 Days". But in any other era there's just no way Tool takes the top album sales slot over anyone, let alone Swift. They may have a huge and loyal fanbase, but not THAT huge. Regarding album sales though, their fanbase just happens to be one that also craves the visual aspects of Tool as well, which means they crave physical media and the packaging it comes in.
I completely agree but have to add he also asked Zac to come back. This was crucial it was obvious Hayley didn’t think Paramore was “legit” without more members from the beginning. Taylor AND Zac together saved Paramore
I’m so surprised more people don’t like their newest album more. It took me a while to get into it, but after blasting it in my headphones, learning the lyrics enough to sing along, and letting myself DANCE, I’m so fond of it. Imo that’s how their music should be listened to 🤧
Yep, TIW and AL are definitely my two favorites from them! I think every album has been better than the one before it (until TIW bc I just feel like it's on equal footing with AL instead of being better). So much fun to just dance and sing along with those last couple records!
I love the new album, but my first listen was on vacation in Florida, blasting the new music around Daytona, Disney and Universal. So the sound brings back memories of just having the most fun I’ve had this year.
I honestly don’t think Zac and Taylor care at all. They seem like quiet and chill dudes who like to keep to themselves. Besides, Taylor is literally dating Hayley lol
Zac and Taylor definitely don't care, they are really chill. Taylor hates any attention and Zac loves just doing his own thing and has always championed Hayley as their front woman
but isn't it the same thing in so many other bands?? somehow people only care when it's paramore, but i swear the same is true for bring me the horizon//oli sykes, panic at the disco (until only brendon urie remained) and so many other bands, but somehow it never comes up with them.
@@DomSte128 josh wrote all of the music until he left, Taylor produced the last two albums and has written the entirety of the music since josh left until Zac co wrote with this is why. Zac and Taylor have always said they don't care about the lyrics and that's Hayley's domain. The contract was also out of all of their control, they only got out of that awful contract this year and it was signed when Hayley was 13. Hayley even tried to get out of it in 2016 when she quit the band briefly.
I mean being in a rock band isn't like... A normal job you can take a Thursday to see a venue in your chosen location. You might be in Spain. Like come on interview dude.
Great video. I wish there was a bit more focus on Taylor's earlier influence on the band. He's known Zac, Josh, and Hayley since they were in middle school. He starting writing music with Hayley when they were 12 and 13, he also had writing credits on Riot. His parents wanted him to finish high school before joining the band, which is why Taylor didn't become a member until he was 18.
I saw them in July for the first time and omg they’re amazing live!! It felt so special. Idk how to describe it. They made me feel like I was at concert home if that makes sense. They had to postpone some dates that week due to Illness but they didn’t postpone Tulsa! (Where I saw them)
My toxic trait is getting pit seats to every U.S. leg of every Paramore tour for the past 10 years haha. I saw them 3 times in 2022-23, and it's such a magical experience to be surrounded by people that grew up with the band, and the show they put on is incredible. I've made so many friends on the floor at Paramore shows, and I can't wait for the next album cycle so that I can do it all over again (:
The constant struggle the band went through, to now consistency in its members is so nice. Following Hayley on social media for a while, she was genuinely quite open about how she was feeling, you could tell she was going through it. With all of that and probably more behind the scenes Paramore and Hayley's own personal projects just keep getting stronger imo.
I've seen them at least once on every U.S. tour leg since the Self-Titled tour, and their performance chops really are aging like a fine wine. Hayley's opt-ups/improvs are like liquid gold, her stage presence is still as strong as it's ever been, Zac and Taylor's playing is so tight, the band is able to adapt and sound good playing any song from any record, and they truly just put on such an incredible show. I'm glad to see them upping the budget and doing arena shows again for the pure spectacle/magic, but the AL era shows felt so intimate and brought in such a diverse group of folks. I've made so many friends in the pits of Paramore shows. Since we're all elder emos who've grown up with the band, it more often than not feels like you're surrounded by friends. Can't wait for the next album cycle so I can do it all over again (:
I still believe Brand New Eyes is their strongest effort to date, but I genuinely don’t think any of their records are bad. They each offer something unique and the fact that they can change their sound almost effortlessly between albums shows just how dynamic and talented they are.
Outstanding overview of the trials and tribulations in Paramore’s career. It’s crazy how much excellent rock music has come from such a fractured, splintered group, where every member and ex-member had at least one very public drama or episode of depression. I agree with several other commenters that Brand New Eyes is their best start-to-finish album. However, the latest album, This Is Why, is very, very close. In a decade that’s really lacked much solid original fresh rock music (at least in North America), This Is Why really stands out as superb.
I agree with all of this except for the last part about lack of new rock. This decade has brought us stuff like Black Country, new road, or Pheobe and Boy Genius’s Albums, or Sun Room, or Slowdive, or Snail Mail, or Big Thief, or deftones, there’s so much great rock music for every corner of the genre if you’re willing to look for it. It might not be as mainstream but that doesn’t mean it isn’t there.
@cheddarmx5969 All you have to do is spend just a little time on Spotify or some platform like that and you have good new music from your preferred genres literally thrown in your face constantly. These people who say things like we're lacking in good new rock music are like aliens to me. Like they look nowhere and then wonder why there's nothing
@@Maialeen I agree it’s super easy, I’ve found some of my favorite artists ever (specifically Black Country, New Road) just scrolling the Spotify fresh finds playlists or getting recommended them via a playlist. Spotify is elite for curating amazing music and presenting it to you.
There are very little bands so good at reinventing themselves as Paramore with an interesting changing sound every release! It’s like there’s something for everyone when you listen
I've been a fan of them since 2007 and they somehow haven't missed a single time with their releases since, even with all of the issues in the band. That to me is amazing.
I recently started listening to this band (with This Is Why ) and fall in love with them, collecting all their records. Hayley is S tier female singer (and songwriter!) in my opinion. I wasn't the biggest fan of 2000's emo-pop punk or it just wasn't on my focus around that time (felt way too youngster's stuff as a genre). Now, somehow I started to like their early work, even I "missed" it. The quality is there esp. Riot and Brand New Eyes, basically no skips for me on those. Great, clean, well edited and structured content as always. Thank you!
I think it's pretty amazing that this band started when they were teens, and now they've all grown up and are *still* a band! This Is Why sounds great, and I'm an old fogey, hardly in their target demographic.
I've been a Paramore die-hard for seventeen years - well over half my life. This band has been a staple in everything that I have done music-wise, and I'm so thankful to them for being such a huge inspiration to me over the years.
I've been a fan since I was 17 and at 32 I finally got to see them live with the friend who introduced me to them all those years ago🧡 Also, Hayley's solo album Petals for Armor kept me going in a painfully dark part of my life. My life at the time mirrored the album so much it was cathartic and kept me pushing forward 🧡
Taylor has been the only member of the group (besides hayley) that has been enduring in this project over the years. For that, when i noticed that both of them were having a relationship everything had scense in some way.
After laughter is my comfort album, tbh I'm not a rock fan so it makes sense. I only listen to a few other songs but after laughter has accompanied me through so much.
15 years with Paramore and I love them even more wholeheartedly now than I did back then as a teenager. Four days until I see them live for the 2nd time in my life and I am so ready to cry hard and dance harder!
I was always a fan of Paramore, and I listened to them casually during the first 4 four albums they released. However, something clicked for me during After Laughter, and I even went back and revisited their older stuff! This new album, for me, was so concise and fine-tuned and just solidified my love for them. You can see they are in a good space and are even ready to start recording new music already. I'm so happy that they have found their groove. I can't wait to see what they produce next.
I saw them live for the first time last week, despite being a fan for 20 years. Hayley spoke about a lot of what you have said here, about how it doesnt feel like the peak is behind them, and theyre still on top of their game. It was also the biggest show theyve ever played. They just keep getting better and better
I think the drama with them just comes with forming in high school. I'm 28 and there is still always drama with my high school friends. It makes them even more relatable
I know most paramore fans think of All we know is falling as there weakest album but I fuc*ing love that album! Knowing how young they all were really makes it more impressive
absolutely masterful video man, well done this was a treat to watch as a huge paramore fan. can't wait to see them on their new zealand tour in a few weeks.
This is great 👏 Paramore is definitely one of the greatest rock band in this generation. Anyway, Taylor York has been with the band since the beginning he co-wrote paramore’s first songs oh star, and conspiracy from the debut album when they were 13years old. His parents just wanted him to finish high school and turn 18 before they allowed him to start touring with them.
God I love them so much and I have a lot of respect for their growth not just as a band but as people too. And Hayley always was and will be a idol to me since she already taught me as a 11 y.o. teen to be okay with how you feel and keep pushing forward - just like the band members showed in all those years to each other. I really hope they will have a great time that lasts as long as it can.
Daaaamn, After Laughter was 6 years ago already? Loved the 80s and Duran Duran vibes. Have you ever thought about doing a deep dive on Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros?
I‘ve been a fan since I discovered Ignorance on RUclips on one of my first solo trips around the internet some 15 years ago. My taste in music has evolved a lot since then and Paramore is the only band that has managed to match my current taste perfectly every time they’ve released a new album. I‘m 25 now and I‘m convinced their music helped me get to the healthy place I’m in now. It’s certainly helped me get through the hardest times.
taylor was hardly new, he'd been in the band since he was 12 and 'officially' for 7 years by that point. He wrote some of paramores earliest songs and has credits on that's what you get. His parents wanted him to finish school which is fair as he was 14 (like Zac) when Paramore started touring. Taylor is the only reason paramore have survived, Hayley and Zac have said it many times.
taylor knew zac and josh before hayley knew them. his parents wanted him to finish high school before he could officially join the band, him and hayley even wrote a song together when they were 12 and 13 ("Oh Star").
I'm 33 and have been a Paramore fan since their album RIOT. Recently I couldn't get their song "That's What You Get" out of my head and it made me super nostalgic and emotional listening to it. So I decided to dive into the past and catch myself up and man...hearing the bands ups and downs would've been emotionally damaging for me at the time and am glad that I was distracted by other things in life. But Taylor and Hayley stuck it out THE WHOLE WAY. And that's the Paramore I know and enjoy!
"It was the perfect storm of a lot of things. Josh and Hayley had been secretly dating during the AWKIF and Riot! eras but broke up towards the end of the latter era. Then Hayley began dating the guitarist from New Found Glory. I think Josh was still hurt/bitter about the breakup and now when he composed a melody, it was likely to be turned into a love song about her new beau. There had been rumors of bickering about Hayley getting the most attention. People often treated Paramore as Hayley Williams and her Backup Dudes (some still do now, honestly), which obviously doesn't feel good if you're someone who started a band as a teenager, invited a girl in to be your singer, and now she's all anybody cares about. Hayley had tried so, so hard to get people to see them as a band. She'd worn "Paramore is a band" shirts all the time and would call out journalists on live journal if they wrote with the Hayley Williams and her Backup Dudes narrative. Josh and Hayley were also becoming different people. Josh now is quite religiously fundamentalist and politically conservative. Hayley has been more deconstructive in her spirituality and leans more liberal politically. Both were already taking baby steps in their different directions and so they just ended up with un-bridgable theological differences. This was an issue for them with things like lyrics because Josh would at times think her lyrics were sinful in some way and they'd fight over it and Josh ended up begrudging the feeling that Hayley had more creative control in what the songs were about, even if it was a message he didn't want to stand behind. They also were really young when this all went down, like their younger 20s, and so Hayley would try to shout down everybody who made her feel lesser. Josh wrote this open letter online after quitting that basically said Hayley was a diva bitch and bad Christian. They were just at an age where they didn't have the communication skills to deal with the big angry emotions that they were dealing with." -the-bearwitch (reddit)
Your work is awesome man! You manage to condense a bands' entire discography and history in less than a 30 min video and at the same time succeeding in making the viewers (at least me) appreciate the work behind the sound of the artist. Oh, and I'm not even mentioning your surprisingly good editing. Seriously, your videos have a Netflix level documentary quality to them but with a style of your own. To me, your one of the best content creators in RUclips. Keep it up!🙌 Btw, are you the one doing the sound desing in your videos? For example, you sometimes use a remixed version of a song from the artist who you are talking about as an outro for the video. Did you produce that remix? Either way, awesome content👌
even though I was introduced to them through the self titled album (ain’t it fun used to play all the Time) Riot! and Brand New Eyes still hold a special place in my heart
Tell Me How from After Laughter has been my anthem these last few months as I go through a loss of a best friendship. It was like Hayley was singing the words straight from my brain. “Do I suffocate or let go.”
Since high school, i’ve been listening to this band more than any rock band since it was the only female vocalist who’s on rock genre. I anticipate their song on MTV and fell in love with their song Ignorance. Up until now Paramore songs help me and their songs saved me. I can feel the drama angst on their first album that I felt during my teen, and now their new album is like my new stage in my life (this is why) recently graduated and just discovering the world is complex, unfair and difficult. It’s a big jump for me scary but I am trying my best to keep my life in balance and fight those demons awaaay
coming back to this video after the chaos of them going independent AND winning two more grammys (first women fronted rock album winners!) it’s amazing to see them once again make it
i remember when i first knew about Paramore many years ago, i thought "meh, a trendi rock wannabe band" and then started listening to the most popular songs and went: "oh, is not that bad", before i realized i was listening to the full first 3 albums and liked all the songs (this never happened to me with any artist before) and then the next album came out and i loved it as well, and then the next, and the sound changed and many fans complained but i actually enjoyed it as well, and then the next....at the end i loved each and every single song from this band because it felt real, the lyrics resonated with me, the melodies always were fun or emotional and Hayley's tone and vocal power is superb. I wish these guys continue to make great songs because the day Paramore stops producing music will be a sad day indeed for the music community.
Thanks!! He estado tratando de entender la historia de la banda por mucho tiempo y la mayoría explica solo una parte y no lo explica a detalle como tú. Ahora comprendo más a la banda y su situación, y ahora los aprecio más. Increíble video 🖤
I admire how Taylor was always there behind the scenes, supporting and enduring their multiple hardships since he was a kid. He really dedicated his life to this project, and not only that but also harboring feelings for Hayley - probably for a long time or maybe since the beginning - while she was also struggling in her personal life must've been probably really hard for both of them. I can clearly see why they say Taylor was their savior.
Been a fan since the riot days im just grateful that there is still paramore. what other bands from the 2000s that are still touring and making new music. I feel lucky
Pretty good video! Good job. You didn't mention but TIW was their last contracted album. They are finally free of that BS 360-deal that Hayley signed as a child. Also there was never any confirmation that Hayley had cheated on Josh… Considering how open Hayley was that she was the other woman (Chad cheated on his first wife with Hayley), and in a result how much shame she felt for a whole decade of her toxic relationship with Chad, I think she would admit if she cheated, too. And also because Hayley used to live journal we know that tensions between her and Josh started way before Chad even appeared in their story. In general tho... the story of Paramore is soo misunderstood and perceived in a misogynistic way. So many people judge them for their continuous drama and blame Hayley for everything. But if not her I doubt they would ever achieve this level of success. She signed a terrible deal but she was just a child that didn't understand business (who signs 8-albums deal as a kid??) and that was their only chance at the time. And every member knew that but then they (Josh, Jeremy) kept using it as shot at Hayley… Which recently Taylor & Zac discussed saying that she always her their back, and documents from their legal dispute with Jeremy proved that he was paid what he earned during his time in the band, and that while Williams is the only one signed to Atlantic Records, she shared her personal earnings with the band out of a sense of camaraderie. Anyways being harsh on what involves real childhood friendships and first romantic experiences when it's not unheard that this is the time when there is a lot of tension. You grow up at different speed, so to say. You change. You maybe drift apart from one another. But they didn't get the chance to resolve this naturally as they were being thrown into this industry and everything about that was just extremely public. Sometimes there is just too much difference to keep friendship alive. Regardless I’m so happy that they are finally happy. This year has been their most successful yet. They were at their biggest tour ever and sound better than ever. Long live Paramore. Hopefully they another Grammy.
now that I think about it, no band that I even lightly care about has had as many heartbreaking departures as Paramore. Still not over the Farros leaving that one time or Davis being gone for good.
I've never been a big fan of their earlier albums. Sure, "Fences", "Misery Business", "Decoy" are certified bangers, but I get tired while listening to them pretty quickly. I guess pop-punk is just not my cup of tea. But I really love "After Laughter". Such a great album! Lots of cool and interesting guitar riffs, great keyboards, excellent lyrics ("No, I don't need no help, I can sabotage me by myself"), and only one filler track, "No Friend".
@@therocketmanarch weak?? 💀 where?? Only C’est Comme Ça isn’t great. The title track is an absolute banger, as is The News, and Running Out Of Time is one of the best songs of last year
@@f4gsforpele Well, it's a matter of personal preferences. The singles didn't hook me at all. Although, I admit, the live version of the title track is good. More keyboards, Hayley's voice in the verses was not as thin as in the studio version, and the "...like a cannonBAAAAALL!" wail was nicely done.

That's so weird because I love them both as well????? Like I loved them since covid (I know that's late but I'm obsessed and always on the look out for merch)
About time to see the broader music community give Paramore the recognition they deserve as great musicians and not just another angsty emo band from the 2000s
The fact that they brought back their original drummer who quit the band with his brother, after when the bassist left, is a great achievement and yet they still make music and release albums, perform live around the world too. Hayley and Taylor kept the band together after all the shenanigans they've gone through. I miss the time when the band had 5 members, Josh, Hayley, Zac, Jeremy and Taylor, BNE and Riot were imo the peak of the Paramore era.
Great video! I'll be honest, I've had kind of an odd relationship with Paramore's music. I still like the first couple albums in spite of some arguing they are pretty dated, I absolutely love Brand New Eyes start to finish to this day, Self Titled isn't bad by any means but I have a very rocky relationship with it and I got kind of sick of hearing some of the tracks from it, After Laughter was a really cool change of pace, and I admittedly had other albums in 2023 I was more curious about to the point where This Is Why kind of passed me by aside from one or two listens. Still, Brand New Eyes is such an important album to me that it kind of elevates everything for me and I have too much of a soft spot for Paramore to ever forget them.
Im not sure why, but I hated This Is Why (album) on release, but listening to it a few months later, and it just hit me that it rocks and now I listen to it all the time.
Paramore was/has been a big part of my life growing up and now as an adult. I hadn't kept up with all their drama and turmoil but I am glad the band exists and hopefully, the former members work out their issues and get back together.
Josh and Jeremy will never rejoin. They burned those bridges. None of them talk to Jeremy and while now amicable with Josh, even Zac isn't close to Josh. Taylor, Zac and Hayley are their strongest line up. Jeremy was a free loader and didn't contribute anything to the band and Josh held them back

Yeah, so you didn’t “playlist it”, you took the time to listen to it as it was intended to be listened to.
More people should do this
It’s so good live too like their loss
Because why would you like it if you’re a fan of Riot and brand new eyes? It’s a new sound totally for the most part.
Even though it's not really hayley's fault I cannot imagine how frustrating it was for the rest of the band to constantly be second fiddle.

Great video. I wish there was a bit more focus on Taylor's earlier influence on the band. He's known Zac, Josh, and Hayley since they were in middle school. I'm so glad you made a video about them. Their albums are always incredible!
Paramore is my favorite band and I was so fucking glad to be able to see them with floor seats pretty close to the stage this past June after so long
I saw them in July for the first time and omg they’re amazing live!! It felt so special. Idk how to describe it. They made me feel like I was at concert home if that makes sense. They had to postpone some dates that week due to Illness but they didn’t postpone Tulsa! (Where I saw them)
I saw them in Melbourne like yesterday and I’m so impressed by the showmanship and talent, they’re so good live!
After Laughter is probably my favorite Paramore album, I saw them live in 2017 and 2022 and they were great.
Nice joke
I wish I saw them in 2010, but I can't stand her politics in concert now.
@@ZaneReinard so true hayley s so annoying
Even though I hate pop music, I’m pretty sure AL is my favorite Paramore album too
I still believe Brand New Eyes is their strongest effort to date, but I genuinely don’t think any of their records are bad. They each offer something unique and the fact that they can change their sound almost effortlessly between albums shows just how dynamic and talented they are.
This is a well researched piece. It didn't fall into the traps that others have unfortunately managed to do. Excellent.

Thank you!
shout out to their touring band as well. Logan, Brian and the Joeys have brought a fresh energy to their band and you can see it in the live shows.

I think it's pretty amazing that this band started when they were teens, and now they've all grown up and are *still* a band! This Is Why sounds great, and I'm an old fogey, hardly in their target demographic.

Taylor has been the only member of the group (besides hayley) that has been enduring in this project over the years. For that, when i noticed that both of them were having a relationship everything had scense in some way.
Right, I feel like that was poetic. He seems very kind and gentle too.
I am 30 and live drama free. When you decide to be happy and let go of all that high school stuff, you’ll start living too.

taylor was hardly new, he'd been in the band since he was 12 and 'officially' for 7 years by that point. He wrote some of paramores earliest songs and has credits on that's what you get. His parents wanted him to finish school which is fair as he was 14 (like Zac) when Paramore started touring. Taylor is the only reason paramore have survived, Hayley and Zac have said it many times.

Ngl had the mental image of him standing alone in front of the Riot! banner like fucken Michael Cera
I can feel the drama angst on their first album that I felt during my teen, and now their new album is like my new stage in my life (this is why) recently graduated and just discovering the world is complex, unfair and difficult. It’s a big jump for me scary but I am trying my best to keep my life in balance and fight those demons awaaay

tasteful, accurate, love to see it. excellent work
i remember when i first knew about Paramore many years ago, i thought "meh, a trendi rock wannabe band" and then started listening to the most popular songs and went: "oh, is not that bad", before i realized i was listening to the full first 3 albums and liked all the songs (this never happened to me with any artist before) and then the next album came out and i loved it as well, and then the next, and the sound changed and many fans complained but i actually enjoyed it as well, and then the next....at the end i loved each and every single song from this band because it felt real, the lyrics resonated with me, the melodies always were fun or emotional and Hayley's tone and vocal power is superb.
I wish these guys continue to make great songs because the day Paramore stops producing music will be a sad day indeed for the music community.

Despite all the hardships they’ve been through as a band Paramore never miss. Every album is a masterpiece
Best part of being a Paramore fan is that they just keep going up and up in the art no matter what.

I will be here to the end! Also, if the end comes I will forever listen to their music in this life and my following ones!
