I love Harry's videos because he treats the audience like adults. Just talks to us about the car in a normal sensible way.
Unlike these other car RUclipsrs who insist on treating us like children who need to be excited and stimulated all the time (thumbnails with the RUclipsr pulling stupid concerned or excited faces next to the car as an example).

      Different target audiences, I'd say.
Harry's aiming more toward the middle-aged to old demographic, while those other guys are aiming at the youngsters.
Honesty is rewarded by that older audience, that young audience wants the excitement and the hypes and scandals.
I think that's natural. You don't know shit when you're young, but you are easily excited, you are curious and impressionable.
Then you do the things you want to do, learn the things you want to learn... and get to a point where you've left easily excited and impressionable behind.
That's when you get into the details and start appreciating those.
And then you're at the point where you know what you want, you know what you like.
Anyone who has done their fair share of driving in their life knows what they want from a car. So Harry's honesty is appreciated.
No need for stories, just straight to the point - we know what we want, just tell us about the car and we'll know whether we like it.
I suspect that the excitement of the younger audience makes for a more lucrative channel over all.
And that the older audience is more loyal.
Two different strategies to run a channel, I guess.

The MC20 will be unloved during it's production but will be a future sought after classic in the coming years. It's a car that knows exactly what it was designed to be, an Italian supercar. I'd gladly take the MC20 out of the rest in it's class. It's beauty won't fade and those delightful turbo induction noises won't either. Nobody buy them please so they can have massive Maserati depreciation and maybe I can score one for "cheap".

I love the way that there still are normal-sized, exotic sportscars today. I grew up in the generation of the Ferrari 308 and 512, Maserati Merak and Bora, Lotus Esprit, etc. One of the great things about those cars was that they had that very low, compact, and high power per weight look. Nowadays, many sportscars are as long and wide as luxury sedans with 1,000hp. Who cares?? It's a breath of fresh air to see cars back like the MC20, 296, and Emira. I love them!!

I mean, how could this possibly be "Car of the Year" when it's horribly over-priced, too heavy, slower than the competition, has numb steering, can't put the power down, a pathetic fuel tank, no luggage space, and a pedestrian interior? Literally all it has over competing vehicles is its looks, which are subjective anyway. It. makes. no. sense.
Watch AutoExpert - he's an ex motoring journalist and often tells stories of how he'd been told by the boss to alter reviews to be more friendly to a manufacturer who spent a lot of money on advertising, or was bribed with trips to exotic locations for new vehicle releases, knowing he'd be cut out in the future if he didn't follow up with a glowing review. I mean Ferrari are famous for cutting people out entirely for one or two negative comments about their vehicles - it's just a reality & it sucks.

Interesting review Harry. I have an MC20 and I agree the fuel gauge is frustrating. My own real world experience is I reckon the software gets it wrong in its estimation, that said it’s not a large tank. I’ve never had problems bottoming out at all. I can’t comment on the cold wet greasy conditions you had to deal with but in the dry I have no problem getting the power down. I actually think the tech is pretty good and modern. As you noted the doors open wider than you think and I’m glad I don’t have carbon fibre sills for the reason you noted. I have to use a small blower battery blower to clear the mess after a decent run. There’s no peer on looks, and if you’re older than 40 (let’s face most buyers are at this price) you don’t look like a peacock trying to show off. Think EVO’s MC20 must have eaten some pasta the day it was weighed 😅

I agree with your post. I'm also an owner and I've not had problems with bottoming out (except for large speed bumps) or putting the traction down. Like most supercar owners- I got my car PPF's before I picked it up, so the dirt that's kicked up through the door aero is less of an issue. The roads that Harry was testing on were more suited for an SUV than a supercar. And the cold, wet weather wasn't exactly a great day for testing. I hope that Harry gives it another chance under better conditions. I love mine regardless.

I remember watching a review by Steve Sutcliffe who seemed to absolutely love the MC20, so it is interesting to have a different point of view here. I really don't understand why they used such a small fuel tank - perhaps to disguise some weight? But then a carbon tubbed V6 you wouldn't expect to be heavy. Harry definitely has a point with the hybrid cars though and the need to replace the battery - it is a real consideration. I understand that LaFerrari owners are now looking at having to pay out $200,000 to replace their cars' battery and there's a waiting period of over a year - the car can't be used without the battery either. Perhaps the Artura and the 296 won't have such an expensive battery, but battery degradation will be a factor, and you can bet that it won't be all that cheap to replace... The MC20 is a gorgeous looking car, albeit not a perfect car.

Interesting take on it. I'm not convinced by any of the three to be brutally honest. The McLaren has some big QC concerns and the battery question - especially with the kind of sporadic use supercars tend to get, the Ferrari similar battery issues and a massive price tag then this comes along with a lot of reports of loose fitting interiors, squeaks and rattles, questionable weight and a talent for losing traction.
From everything I've seen so far I would still take the Lotus over these even with the price difference. It may not have the numbers but it looks to be a much better all around car.

I wonder how many of the issues Harry experienced were down to the conditions and tyres? I've seen reviews in greasy conditions with all-season tyres that didn't have any of the issues that Harry experienced. Maybe this car was on summer tyres? Maybe it was on all seasons, but it was colder and greasier than in other reviews? I don't know, but despite everything it was Evo magazine's car of the year 2022, and I think that means something, especially when the judges included Steve Sutcliffe. I also note that Evo tested it in greasy late autumnal conditions on roads in Cumbria and Scotland that included many stretches that are worse than Harry's favourite roads. The differences between the two reviews is somewhat baffling. Maybe there was something not right with the car when Harry drove it, because it was the exact same car?

With compromised ground clearance, ingress and egress issues in urban settings etc it is beyond me. Surely these are not mainstream vehicles or, for most people, even aspirational vehicles. Imagine taking one of these for a Sunday drive, parking off road in a field and having a picnic. They'd be beached before they drove very far off the tarmac. I was re-reading the EVO car of the year earlier today and was thinking oh I hope Harry reviews the Maserati because he'll weigh it and talk about the weight issue. And then was pleasantly surprised when I loaded up youtube tonight! I'm puzzled though after reading Maserarti's response saying that they had to build in extra strength to the monocoque because of the extra weight of the all electric version. But that doesn't seem right to me if its carbon fibre its just more layers in different directions to add strength it doesn't add 200kg of weight. And how come Mclaren can manage to do it? Something just doesn't ring true to me. I suppose we will never know until someone prangs one and then rebuilds it, Mat Armstrong I'm talking to you! Anyone in the industry have an ideas?

At present he struggles to put the MC20 on top, but in 10yrs time he sees it as a much better car than the 2 other hybrid super cars which would be outdated by tech advances to a much higher degree than this old school Maserati.
