The MC20 is an astonishing achievement, and that’s even before you’ve seen one in the metal. Going from the first sketch to the car being launched in Modena took just two years - that's less than half the development time of most cars. But don’t let the speed of the process fool you, because Maserati is gunning for Ferrari with this car. It's been designed, developed and engineered to humiliate its opposition from down the road in Maranello - the Ferrari F8 Tributo.
This no-expense-spared approach explains why, instead of using the Ferrari’s aluminium space-frame platform, Maserati has elected to follow in British company McLaren’s tyre tracks by developing a lighter, more rigid carbon-fibre tub for its car. And although its twin-turbocharged V6 plays a V8 motor in the Ferrari, our man Steve Sutcliffe reckons they've cracked it. This might just be the best mid-engined supercar on sale, and this is why.

If Steve is saying this…that’s saying something. Congrats Maserati 🙌🏽
Steve is one of the finest cars reviewer and his option is highly regarded ….very impressive creation from Maserati that’s long over due
Iiiiiiiiiiiiiii8í
Steve is just great at this car test/review stuff. Excellent job as always 👍🏻
Why has it taken SOOOOOOOOO long for these reviews to come out and what a brilliant video
Thank you Steve for this short review. After seeing some other reviews and yours now, I'm genuinely impressed by MC20. I hope it will sell well.
Wow, Steve look genuinely impressed. Takes a lot as well! Be interested to know more about the making of it and who was behind it. Some serious talent used by sounds of it.
Right! This is the first time i’ve seen him talk about a car like this. This is quite a machine.
Matt smart : steve is always impressed when he drives an expensive sports car. So, that means nothing when he is impressed. He wouldn't be banned of new car drive reviews by car manufacturers by saying bad things about their new cars.
@@lensoprezole5322 go away dumbferrari cars fan buuooy
@@eugenux wow you sound mad. You need to see a doctor. And i am not a Ferrari fan boy.
@@lensoprezole5322 Maybe so but he said "its savagely fast" and "its the most surprising car I have driven n the last 10 years" High praise and obviously he thinks this car ranks ahead of most if not all sports cars he has driven in the last decade.
The Maserati MC20 is a genuinely well designed, engineered and thought out machine, truly beautiful and equally powerful. I have only heard positive reviews of it from the critics so far, I believe it really means something... Great to see Maserati has started reviving itself with this brilliant piece of art. Hope to witness the return of Maserati's glory days 🇮🇹 !
So Shmee was underwhelmed by this car but Sutcliffe loves it - I wonder who we should believe...! What on earth was Maserati doing, giving it to influencers to review before 'proper' car journos? (or did Shmee get his hands on one unofficially?) Either way, the MC20 'launch' has been handled completely disastrously - let's hope it manages to recover from such a bad start, it deserves to succeed.
Agree with you about Shmee. Like you I'll trust Steve's judgement any day. Never seen Steve so emotionallly charged about a car in such a long time.
I think Maserati have been burnt by what journalists said about the Ghbli, Quattroporte and Levante. I think this has affected confidence in their own product hence handing them to infuencers first. Agreed it's been a bad strategy but people and organisations make bad decisions when they're not confident about what they offer.
Steve sounds genuinely impressed. And he’s a journalist who’s tested the lot. He doesn’t hold back when he doesn’t like or love a car. Let the man be subjective and objective. He’s blown away, so be it. And coming from Maserati, they’ve finally sent out a genuine piece of kit. Which considering Maserati’s past 3 decades it’s been mediocre. So cheers to Maserati and cheers to Steve’s geniune enthusiasm for the damn thing. 🍻
Maserati is dead
@@marcelk3847 what a nonsense comment !
Much nicer comment than I would have given.
Wow, Steve is absolutely fascinated by this car! There must be a reason for this! If it drives as good as it looks, then it must be a masterpiece! Great job Maserati!
Being Italian, and thinking (to my taste) that the Maserati Granturismo is one of the best looking cars of the last 30 years, I was a bit skeptical about this MC20, i kind of thought they had not "done enough" to it, to make it "superb" . BUT, if Steve says so many positive things about it, i'm starting to question my original opinion and be proud for yet another Italian motorsport masterpiece .
Agree, as a former GranTurismo owner which really enjoyed driving around Europe I’ve been anticipating the MC20 to be excellent and so glad it is.
@@askiff1415 i cannot do it now for mainly work reasons (i need a car to travel daily and long distances with reasonable consumption due to my work) but i really look forward one day to own a Granturismo. And judging by the mules driving around in the recent months in italy, the next gen Granturismo will be looking quite good .
Reminds me of the stunning Alpine, just dialled up. Heavenly.
Steve Sutcliffe = LEGEND !
Pure sans wings and such like an F-type. Hope we are moving back to clean design. Great video and words.
Like many other viewers have commented, Mr. Sutcliffe consistently offers most impartial and sober comments among a very select (and very small) group of automotive experts.
He seems thoroughly impressed, almost seduced, by the qualities of the MC20.
That tells a lot about the car.
Every single tester has the same opinion and this means something
This looks like a great car! How did i get here and why am i so early
I'm a simple man. I see a Steve S review, I watch and hit like. And you're looking younger by the year, mate!
Saw the first MC20 at a Cars & Coffee in Orlando on 10 July. The owner ordered the car 13 months
ago. He claims it's the first one imported to the States. Impressions: imagine glacier white with a light metallic sky blue undercote which changes color depending on the light ! absolutely stunning.
The car is sleek and unencumbered by wings and the like. It is a low and wide auto sculpture.
Needless to say it attracted a crowd of spectators and police alike.
You know it's good day when it's Steve Sutcliffe
Great video, fabulous car and an awesome car journalist. Wouldn’t Steve be great on Top Gear with Chris Harris. Maserati deserve success.
This is the best MC20 review thus far BY A MILE. Hats off, and thanks as always Steve for the journalistic excellence.
What a refreshing way of reviewing a car. And how great to hear Maserati really delivers with the MC20.
If Steve says this car is the best, then this car is the best, one of the great motoring journalists. What a wonderful petrolhead world it would be, if Top Gear consisted of Chris Harris, Steve Sutcliffe, and Henry Catchpole, job done !!!.
this.
Bejesus she is the one. I would of wanted this even with the usual foible’s!! A perfect Maserati is a mouth watering prospect…
maserati is really underrated. its got a good mix of luxury and performance in a supercar compared to its italian counterparts.
Note: Same engine firing order and 90 degree configuration as the original Maserati V6 they made for the Citroen SM and Merak. Sound is just a modern version of that old brilliant engine that also performed so well at Le Mans.
I remember the MERAK. I loved the shape of that car.
It's an updated version of the 2.9 v6 found in the Giulia
@@moneeb87 that is not at all the case
@@Selmerpilot it 100%is the case Google Ferrari f154 Alfa Romeo 690t and Maserati nettuna engine and you'll find the answer 👍
It’s like an Italian McLaren and that’s not a bad thing 😎
People are so stupid and they miss out on the best cars because of what internet people have to say . This car is amazing I’ve seen a couple in person and they’re amazing . People need to start making up their own mind and decisions on things and stop relying on internet people to form an opinion for you .
I've always loved Maserati 🔱❤️
What a bonkers but amazing car Wow great review!! 👌🏻👍🏻
Mc20 is amazing...I know cause I drove one
Such a better review than Topgear. Shouldn't be surprised.
It looks great… apart from the weird looking rear with lights that could be lifted straight off an Alpine A110.
Maserati did it with this one!
This Maserati has great handling and great aerodynamics in design.
I do think this car is a stunner and have been waiting on reviews for ages to see if the drive matched.
I live a couple of minutes from this road and walk my dogs at BH all the time and yet am always oblivious to all the great tests that happen here...🙁
Proud to be Italian 🇮🇹❤️🇮🇹
I really appreciate your work, and I really like the MC20.
But if you say that it's impressive...wow, this car must be really special
Wow. This is the first overall positive test of the MC20 I've seen so far. And although I've not driven one myself (only sat in one at the local dealer) I can't help that Steve Sutcliffe could be right.
Also the dutch media absolute adores it. Very interesting car!
Other UK car mags like evo, Autocar, Car have also tested it
We will see against the competition
watch smoking tire
That's great to hear! Bravo Maserati! Bravo!
Unique design fast and strong v6 engine ....well done maserati
Love that Maserati is finally getting the acclaim it deserves, from a top reviewer.
New king? Nooo, that'll still be '22 Aston Martin's Valkyrie, especially the AMR Pro version.
It could be, but nobody has driven it yet!
I've never heard such a wild difference of opinions about a new supercar. Throttle house hated many things about it.
No one ever liked being liked 'quite' a lot. I love you 'quite' a lot darling. You're 'quite' a good employe. I loved your cooking 'quite' a lot. Passion never has 'quite' as a qualifier. May not be verifiable but emotional is never quite. Quite
I agree on all counts, fantastic car to drive.
A great review but the total opposite of what Jayemm said in his review but I trust Steve and can't stand Jayemm to be blunt.
Styling is bang on. Looks stunning, not over the top.
Have to agree it's looks very good
I am so glad the MC20 is so good. Marks a turning point for Maserati
Steve > Top Gear guy that just describes, any sponsored car tuber, rich guys with a camera that just repeat what sponsored car tubes said.
Amazing job describing the sensations that the driving experience provided. 👏🏻👏🏻
Made have nailed it with the MC20 👌
Viva Maserati, great to see them making great cars again! Let the Maserati Renaissance begun 🇮🇹.
That moment when you hear Steve’s voice 🙌🏼🙏🏼It’s like putting your favourite pair of comfy slippers on.
Great review and a real beauty always loved Maserati as my first and only trip in a super car was a Maserati Khamsin.
Great review! Could it be it shares the wheel with the Giulia Q? The brilliance is in the… steering wheel..?!?
This car brings everything new to the supercar market. Brilliant for those who are smart enough to read the specs.
you can see from the video picture how good the suspension setup is - the car seems smooth and supple but at the same time there's no body roll at all in the corners. Porsche GT3s used to be like that before becoming too harsh for public roads.
It is wonderful and I would have one any day over a Ferrari or Lambo. It has a certain class and style about it.
never seen sutcliffe so impressed with a car
Steve is the best Car RUclipsr! 👌
It actually weights 1700Kg fully loaded!
Oh no, not the c8 gearbox! It's an absolute stunner. Reminds me of the Emira.
More Steve, please.
When Steve says it is a great car we shouldn't question that. Great video guys
If Steve says it's good... it's good!!
Stunning car. Looks like a concept car
Love this car and all the Maserati 🔱❤️
Wow... Big statements, I'll wait and see what other car reviewers have to say. Could be that you actually expected it to be an unbalance car (so to say) and then you found a quite decent one? But mate, saying that the MC-20 it's the most surprising car of the last decade... Man... Those are big words! Better even that a Mclaren 720S??? May be is that the Maserati, apart from being such a great sports car, is also a brilliant daily driver??? The best all round super car??
Any info on when the Spider is coming out?
Finally, MC 20 review!
Loved the last bit - it’s f**** good 😊
Yes yes yes....how refreshing is this video. MC20 it was my #1 pick...but now how I REALLY want one.....not going to happen... though.
First comment!
I am sure the engine and steering wheel have nothing in common with the ones in the Gulia Quattroformagio.
Most idiotic car launch ever... This is so unorganized. An amazing car, terrible handling of the launch.
I think Maserati has been burnt by what journalists previously said about the Ghbli, Quattroporte and Levante. I think this has greatly affected confidence in their own product hence handing them to infuencers first. Agreed that the launch of the MC20 has been calamitious, but people and organisations make bad decisions when they're not confident about what they offer.
Maybe the fact that they've smashed it out of the park with the MC20 will give them more confidence to launch a new car properly next time?
Wow!!! what a conclusion..... Who could think of that speaking about Maserati under the umbrella of Ferrari. But yes I agree without driven it, if the ride, solidity and simplicity is that great is this the right spot. Modern Ferraris are too complex, too stiff and Porsches....., well you see them at every corner.
sutcliffe, you legend
GT3 Touring manual anyday

Maserati step out of the other Italian manufacturers shadow create an ICON SERIES and roll ALL the way to the bank your history is Rich CAPITALIZE ON IT
Steve, you're an amazing reviewer. Low-key Greatness.
Keep these amazing reviews coming Steve! You're a champion.
High praise indeed Steve. The sum of all these parts executed to near perfection. Lovely review the best so far. Oh to dream
Sound? Where is the sound?
But still a wonderful car with nice design. But a Huracan Evo RWD is car for weekend driving. Even better looking and with an extremly nice sound.
I love this channel, I appreciate Steve as an excellent auto journalist and I love this beautiful Maserati that will now perform like Ferrari, Mc Laren and Porsche.
Steve Is One Of The Few And Truly Best. Thank You
Hmm it may be as good a car as Steve says (I've no reason to doubt his word), but the Lotus Emira is £100k less also with a V6. I'm sure they're not comparable but the Lotus actually sounds a lot better! 😂
You got me Steve! What an amazing machine!! Bravo Maserati.
it looks very sporty and i same time it has elegance...its like bugatti or pagani
I hate Maserati as a car brand. But I can bear watching this review because of Steve’s insightful review.
Now.. Make a new Alfa Romeo 4C. Based on this. With 2 cylinders chopped off.

great review!
The only reviewer so far who acts so impressed. No other reviewer comes close to being as impressed by this car. What is he experiencing that no else is, I wonder.
He’s an incredible driver, and I’ll take his word over theirs
...maybe he undersand more about cars
Just saw the Smoking Tire review and they were glowing as well, but were more specific about what made the car exciting. Check it out!
Jack's TG review was so critical. But I trust Steve's judgement more.
This film is just epic! Steve rocks with the car review, the music, the scenary, just wanna say thank you!
Iv'e just watched the Top Gear review of the car and the presenter said the opposite of what Steve said, this guy said its nowhere near worth the £200k price tag, the interior is very basic, he panned the car
Awesome car !
8'28" of pure Steve and Maserati magic.
