Harry (and partner!), this trip reminds me some of of the best episodes of British motoring TV of years past. Beautiful scenery, beautiful car, intelligent conversation for enthusiasts. Well done!
I love this channel, it’s by far the best automotive channel on RUclips or indeed terrestrial TV. The one thing that makes me chuckle every time Mr H takes a road trip with Mrs H, is she’s often chucked out at the roadside to get drive-by shots and you never ever hear her scream “slow down Harry” when going for a max V test on the autobahn! Something my dear wife does when I’m getting close to 60!
Mrs.M hates the Autobahn and I normally do the big speeds without here in the car but pushed my luck on this one. 150mph is about her limit although I have hit 180 with her in the car but you need to be in something really quick, so she doesn't realise how fast we're going as we got there so quickly!

Many thanks for sharing the experiences with the Emira! You guys have the best no-nonsense travelogues. I love hearing about the various roads and destinations in Europe.
The exterior design is really quite lovely too. I’ve been itching for an upgrade but I’ve been stalled now for years. To be honest, I hadn’t even considered an Elmira but maybe that’s about to change.
To me it would be the easiest choice you could ever make when looking at cars at this price point. It looks incredible to drive and is guaranteed to hold value in the future being what it is and the manual gear shift is rare these days!
Really enjoyed the Emira videos. The looks great from every angle. Sounds lovely and like you say it doesn’t need more power. It looks really planted on the road. Love the colour combo. Yellow callipers looks great too.
Love it Harry, thanks for all the content. Still loving my Emira, but great to see some other content out there too!! :) Our specs probably couldn't be further from each other, but that's the joy of this car!!!
@@mementomori29231 I'm loving it, I've got a lowered M4 also, on KW HAS suspension, and the Emira isn't as 'crashy' as that, the shocks are excellent. It's not incredible over the cobbled streets of Edinburgh, but on the twisty B roads it's brilliant and not too uncomfortable. As a 'daily' I'd pick tour of course.
17.15 is a snapshot of why it’s such fun. Numerous mountain turns elsewhere, but the sound & briskness and lightness make it a wonderful thing to play with.
This is hands down the best review of the Lotus Emira and especially this one being a two-for-one, a real world tour putting it through its paces and then the overall review around the usual roads as a comparison with the likes and dislikes. Of course we always get some great acoustics of the engines when Harry tools around his neighborhood. 👍
Brilliant set of vids Harry! I hear what you say about the Evora interior, but still think the central screen was better integrated than that ridiculous 'iPad on the dash' in the Emira. Other than that, and weird wiper issue aside, it looks like the Emira is a real winner! 👍🏻
I feel exhilerated each time I see a product made with true dedication and not just to get the job done. I wish all the best to Lotus and the team involved. Great review as always
You may well of already done it but I’d love to read like a semi guide book style of Harry’s favourite European road trips with tips routes stops things to do accompanied by pictures of various Harry’s garage cars at the locations. That would make a fantastic gift for me anyway 😂
Thank You Harry for the excellent Emira Adventure, fantastic to watch, with both factory visits added extra highlights, you passed an old truck in the lay-by on the transporter , you must see so much on your road trips. Great editing away from home have a great Christmas break, you deserve it.
The quiet "Harry!" coming from what I assume was your wife made me crack up. I think every car guy had that same expression coming from their significant other at some point
Fantastic video. Harry, would suggest changing out the engine oil after your break-in miles. There's always some manufacturing debris that gets released after engine break in.
@@antonoat No harm and only potential benefit. After 2,500 miles, the engine should be well broken in and releasing minimal debris going forward. Time to empty the trash from the engine.
Would take this over a C8 corvette all day long. And this comes from a corvette owner from 1987 and on… Cheers to Lotus! And yes I am a Pretty woman movie lover because of that specific time and place I watched it in the movie theater. Rock on Harry! You legend!
The best thing about GT cars is that while on holiday in Italy you can stock up on a bunch of goodies. You might not be able to fit people in the back of an XK but you can load a few cases of wine in the back.
What a fantastic car you’ve bought yourself Harry. Beautiful, a work of automotive art to look at. This trip has shown that it is also a brilliant usable performance car that I can see is going to become a favourite in the collection 😊
Even with the wind noise, good engine and supercharger sounds in this video. I like how you can also see the mechanical action of the throttle linkage right behind the rear glass. It must feel very nice to have driven this brand-new car, gotten so much pleasure out of it, and at the end of the trip you don't have to return it to the manufacturer because it's all yours and not a press car like your usual videos. Harry, I hope that you will do another video on the Mille Miglia next summer, your video a few years back in the Alfa Spider was great. Thanks for this series of videos, well done! 👍
My favourite thing about Harry is he doesn't try to be a comedian, unlike those twats on Top Gear who try and fail; although I do like Chris Harris on his own. Another great video, love the car!
I would never thought I will think of another sports car other than a Porsche, I do now . That’s a perfectly beautiful and practical car . Amazing series narrated by the reassuring Harry. Spot on . Mega congrats
I live in an area where the only rorty V6s I hear are the abysmal Nissan VQ, so it's nice to hear a properly tuned V6. I haven't even finished the video yet but I can tell you're very pleased with the Emira.
Needs a back to back comparison with a Cayman GTS 4.0...for no other reason than just because it's the right thing to do for the car enthusiasts community Harry 😁. Good man. 👍🏻
These are my favourite videos from Harry - love them! Regarding the Emira, fantastic value for money definitely but is it only me who wishes that there was a nicer tune from the 3.5l v6? They're not alone of course, the McLaren 570s with it's 3.8l v8 has the same 'problem'. Just for me, the sound of the car is a big part of the ownership experience. I have to admit though, the sound of the Emira sounds better from the outside than it seems to from inside the cab.
Thanks for this video Harry. I've watched plenty videos about the emira, and this one in particular has shown me more than any of the others. For the last of its kind it sure looks, and behaves in the way i expect it to. Thank you again.
Seems to be a cracking car with superb balance, it looks great and sounds interesting too, surely 400 BHP is enough. It appears you got approx 26 mpg on your road trip considering that included the running in period maybe a touch thirsty, perhaps it will improve with time, though I suspect it won't really, lol. A real success I'd say and a bit of a bargain.
I just saw the latest Doug Demuro Smoking Tire Podcast and both Doug and Matt agreed that Harry’s Garage is their favorite and the best car channel on RUclips. I trust Matt and Doug’s opinions more even than my own, so I’ve subscribed and will be watching from now on
It would be interesting to compare this car with the Ferrari 360. Both have around the same weight, power and purchase price. The big difference is two decades in age.
I can’t help think that Harry seemed so much more excited when driving the Evora GT410 Sport. He just giggled his way through the review. By comparison, here, he just seems ‘pleased’.
I have auto dimming headlights on my Camry and I disabled that function. Sometimes they dimmed too soon and other times not at all. I found them to be a pain in the butt.
The glorious B4437......last turn right before you get to Charlbury takes you through the woods and down into the village where I live. It's a fabulous road, especially early in the morning or middle of the day when it's empty. Love the car, what a machine that is.
Impressive series and commentary on the Emira. I was rooting for this car to be something special. And, watching your series you’ve validated that with me. Is it perfect? No, but then what is? I do appreciate it’s looks and performance. Now, will I be able to get one? We shall see.
This is the best-looking new car I have seen for a long long time...The Elise was and still is a stunner and a design classic, but this is just as good, possibly even better.
Harry I have found your videos about the Emira inspirational and informative. After watching I purchased one in Shanghai/ China (the AMG but here it has 400hp and 480nm of torque). I selected the touring chassis after watching your show. Apparently, if all goes well I will receive it next week. Thanks for the videos.
Brilliant video as always, and enjoyed the Emira series. As an Evora 400 owner, can you comment on how you think it compares to the Evora 410 you tested back in July 2019 over what you mentioned in this video?
That would interest me so much indeed. The GT 410 Sport is more powerful & lighter. Doesn't it make any differences concerning handling & Lotus road touch ?🤔
Do you think the fully ladened car might be the reason for so little under-steer compared to the Press Cars or do you think that they just tweaked the the calibration that last little bit since the Press Launch? It looks so good inside and out. You spec’ed it so well! It almost makes other junior supercars seem rather superfluous, in true Lotus style!
Although I've never been a huge Lotus fan, I'm really pleased that they've finally built a car that stands-up to the ubiquitous Porsche Cayman/Boxster; it's better looking, too. I suppose it says something about how far Lotus have come in terms of reliability when the only initially problems are sticky wipers and a fiddly key, although not having auto dimmable lights is unforgivable at this price point; overall, it makes you proud to be British.
Looks great in this spec, interior seems nice and a quantum leap for Lotus. Shame about the weight (all that brake dust!) Alpine A110 still the better car across the board it would seem, especially after some tweaking
Brilliant as always Harry! Love the Italian in Audi Allroad, those blokes are impossibly fast, must have been a very quick, very well driven car to catch him!
I hate it when companies just stick a tablet on the dash like that, its like a last minute 'i give up' look. It should be sunk into the dash and made to look a part of it. Looks so cheap and amateur IMO.
Nice to see a cultured man, driving and enjoying a tasteful car in beautiful surroundings. Both the car and the journey he does with it are accessible for “normal” punters. It’s an attainable dream car and not just a trinket for millionaires and billionaires.
Harry I think the last 5 videos were your best yet! I absolutely loved these episodes and because of you I now have to get one of these in blue, touring package with black wheels!
Thank goodness for Harry’s Garage. Quite a relief after trying to watch a review of a McLaren Senna made of Leggo blocks. Harry seems quite pleased with the Emira, but exuberance he had with the Arturo was missing.
There is a point in this video that stands out. After doing 2500 miles in a week in most cars most people wouldn't want to look at the car again for a while. When you immediately want to take it down your favourite road you know thats going to be a car you're going to love long term. I agree about the performance too. Its enough to have a lot of fun without numbers being the whole point of the car. I would genuinely take this over a 296 even if they were the same price. To me it looks better, its got a more fun level of performance and it seems generally more enjoyable on the road. None of the nonsense buttons all over the wheel, a better driving position. It even sounds better - more sonorous and less try-hard. This series has made me think very hard about putting a deposit down and after seeing this I just might.

@@johnsmith1474 not in this country, dear Father Christmas maybe.
Harry (and partner!), this trip reminds me some of of the best episodes of British motoring TV of years past. Beautiful scenery, beautiful car, intelligent conversation for enthusiasts. Well done!

@@sh-hg4eg Thanks.
150mph is about her limit although I have hit 180 with her in the car but you need to be in something really quick, so she doesn't realise how fast we're going as we got there so quickly!
funny you made this comment under this video. I think it's the first time I heard "Harry" at 6:23 regarding his driving ;)
Beautiful motor, great stance...proper British sports car.... Bravo Lotus, bravo!
Isn't lotus half Chinese and half Malaysian novadays? And isn't the engine from Toyota? So it's more like a great car assembled in Britain?
@@supmikpaddleboarding5871 nope the manual is a 3.5 Toyota SC powered motor... The auto is a 2.0 AMG motor.. British build... But as with all imports badges have to be changed going into china
AFAIK
Either way British designed and built and I'd like to celebrate that sir!
@@Paulie_____ I was just curious, but the company is fully owned by Chinese /Malaysian investors right? So it's s Chinese/Malaysian car with eighter a Japanese or a German engine assembled in the UK..🤔
Fantastic review of what looks like a future classic
😅Thank you for the camerawork --- and being such a good sport - time and again - to the Missus! Will we get a cameo appearance one day I wonder? Had to CHUCKLE during the car chase at 06:22 when the driver is reigned in ever so slightly by a well-positioned: "Harry...?" - sounds just so familiar to many of us doesn't it... ;)
Love it!
Many thanks for sharing the experiences with the Emira! You guys have the best no-nonsense travelogues. I love hearing about the various roads and destinations in Europe.
I love the “Harry” at 6:23 of the Mrs. All our women are the same when we’re pushing on !😂
Emira is now on my shopping list. It sounds incredible. First digital “gauge cluster” that looks good to me.
@@Hello_there_obi I bet it's worth more than he paid for it, there maybe a long waiting list.
Porsche offers a manual on their 718 Cayman as well
Bravo!! 👏👏👏
Brilliant real world review, thanks Harry. I still have a bit of a wait for mine but your videos always stoke the enthusiasm.
Really enjoyed the Emira videos. The looks great from every angle. Sounds lovely and like you say it doesn’t need more power. It looks really planted on the road. Love the colour combo. Yellow callipers looks great too.
You’re enthusiasm for the Lotus is infectious. I just yearn for one now. And it looks amazing.
Love it Harry, thanks for all the content. Still loving my Emira, but great to see some other content out there too!! :) Our specs probably couldn't be further from each other, but that's the joy of this car!!!
How do you like the sport vs touring suspension? Is the sport too firm?
@@mementomori29231 I'm loving it, I've got a lowered M4 also, on KW HAS suspension, and the Emira isn't as 'crashy' as that, the shocks are excellent. It's not incredible over the cobbled streets of Edinburgh, but on the twisty B roads it's brilliant and not too uncomfortable. As a 'daily' I'd pick tour of course.
17.15 is a snapshot of why it’s such fun. Numerous mountain turns elsewhere, but the sound & briskness and lightness make it a wonderful thing to play with.
Harry, I enjoyed your whole Emira series immensely. Keep them coming, including any maintenance that you have to do to it.
@@andrewb325, I don’t recall seeing Peter Oxley on this trip 🤷♂️.
@@johnnunn8688 oops wrong button
@@andrewb325 AGAIN! 😂🤣😭
That would make a fantastic gift for me anyway 😂
oooooohhh so pretty front, love the classy back end, very british. love it, want one
Thank You Harry for the excellent Emira Adventure, fantastic to watch, with both factory visits added extra highlights, you passed an old truck in the lay-by on the transporter , you must see so much on your road trips. Great editing away from home have a great Christmas break, you deserve it.
Hearing Harry's voice is just so relaxing. Feel kind of hypnotised.
The quiet "Harry!" coming from what I assume was your wife made me crack up. I think every car guy had that same expression coming from their significant other at some point
Fantastic in-depth review as ever .Lotus must be chuffed with this . Enjoy it Harry.
Fantastic video. Harry, would suggest changing out the engine oil after your break-in miles. There's always some manufacturing debris that gets released after engine break in.
This is old school, and I agree with it, no matter what the manual says.
Presumably that's the job of the oil filter!
@@antonoat No harm and only potential benefit. After 2,500 miles, the engine should be well broken in and releasing minimal debris going forward. Time to empty the trash from the engine.
I wasn't the only one thinking this.
My VW has a 24month oil change schedule and it’s a diesel. Madness.
Love it, thanks Harry. There is no other motoring channel to touch you.
Great trip Harry, maybe worth a trip one winter to Cortina in the snow to replicate your Lotus Esprit trip.
WOW, the looks, especially the rear end, that tactile feel and gear shifting.......it's enough to make me want one instead of any supercar or Porsche
you are still making the most amazing videos since the very first i watched of the testorossa to the Sahara 😊
A skillfull driving and a perfect BE accent. I'm so pleased.
What a fantastic car you’ve bought yourself Harry. Beautiful, a work of automotive art to look at. This trip has shown that it is also a brilliant usable performance car that I can see is going to become a favourite in the collection 😊
Great car and nice Panerai watch. The car is absolutely gorgeous and has plenty of power.
That's not the throttle linkage that's the blowoff valve
Thank you to Harry and Mrs Metcalfe for amazing content in 2022. I’m so glad I found your channel, the reviews are just ace.
Thanks Harry it was a wonderful trip and fantastic car. Thanks for letting us see your adventure
Needs a back to back comparison with a Cayman GTS 4.0...for no other reason than just because it's the right thing to do for the car enthusiasts community Harry 😁. Good man. 👍🏻
What an absolutely beautiful car. Not a bad angle on it. Thanks for taking us along!
I have to admit though, the sound of the Emira sounds better from the outside than it seems to from inside the cab.
a lot of the sound is down to the latest EU drive by noise and emission regulations which are mandatory and nothing Lotus can do about.
He was doing 130mph at times and the engine is probably not fully loosened up yet. 30mpg is easily attainable.
And the Modena’s 4000k-ish bi-annual service cost
Best thing about Harry’s garage and farm is he generates interesting discussion
That Lotus sure seems sweet, but I´m very curious about the Merc four cylinder.
Same here on my Mazda 3. In the city, it's best to leave this feature off.
Trying to keep up with an Italian local in a family car while you’re in a sportscar can be quite humbling
Simply splendid. Does it for me. It is undoubtedly the only modern sports/super/gt car I want. Thanks for a fab show.
Nice to see a Ghost at the autostrada station!
A ghost and a monkey!
@@TheJipino missed the monkey!! (Took 3 reruns before spotting it!)
I found your review is always a class above others. Be safe on the road, thank you very much.
“Merry Christmas! Here’s a can of olive oil”
C’mon Harry, you can do better than that 😂
All the best to everyone
Do you think the fully ladened car might be the reason for so little under-steer compared to the Press Cars or do you think that they just tweaked the the calibration that last little bit since the Press Launch? It looks so good inside and out. You spec’ed it so well! It almost makes other junior supercars seem rather superfluous, in true Lotus style!
The car needs some SERIOUS steering rack/ratio speed adjustments.
Wayyyy too much lock everywhere. Almost half a turn needs to come out of the rack.
@@greggb557 yeah, no progressive steer.
@@greggb557 You are obviously much more knowledgeable about steering than.......Lotus. Think not.
@@EvoraGT430 its clear is it not? That Im right
Although I've never been a huge Lotus fan, I'm really pleased that they've finally built a car that stands-up to the ubiquitous Porsche Cayman/Boxster; it's better looking, too.
A lot of noise at 150mph
Beautiful journeys... I love the sounds when you takes down easily every sharps corners of the roads...
So glad that you’re pleased with it, enjoy Harry, take care. Thanks for another fab video.
Harry I think the last 5 videos were your best yet! I absolutely loved these episodes and because of you I now have to get one of these in blue, touring package with black wheels!
Please no black wheels !!!
5:37 Smart Roadster on the end - fabulous cars!
Thank goodness for Harry’s Garage. Quite a relief after trying to watch a review of a McLaren Senna made of Leggo blocks. Harry seems quite pleased with the Emira, but exuberance he had with the Arturo was missing.
Harry, you're living my enthusiast life imagined. Keep on it, mate.
Great to see you enjoying your Emira, Harry. I look forward to your next video.
