I always admire a person that admits a mistake. I just cleaned both of my VVT filters. Now....I need to remove them again to clean oil return ports that are clogging oil to pool and causing blue smoke from valve guides on left hand turn.
great video! if i don’t have a torque wrench, i will tighten it gently and if it leaks i will tighten it slowly little bit by little bit each time until it stops leaking; this method is always safer than over threaded any engine block or cover. But if someone is replacing things like waterpump where accessing to the bolts is hard, then, i suggest investing/buying a torque wrench. Torque wrench means you know not to rush, focus, and practicing patience😅
Complete hack here. I just finished this job. A nightmare project. My car has >140K miles, so of course the locking clips on the plastic electronic connectors snapped off when I tried to remove to remove the connectors. Will have to do without the locking clips I guess. The PCV(?) valve hose broke just like the gentlemen's hose in the video. Went to Toyota with the Lexus hose part number I found on the internet. They figured the numbers out but there was not one hose at any Toyota dealer in the entire city of Houston. So, went to Autozone and they sold me an overpriced piece of spooled hose with an ID close to the ID of the broken hose. I made it work by using high quality hose clamps and tightening them down snugly The banjo bolt was a disaster. It is nearly impossible to get it in straight with the banjo washers and filter basket in place. I worked on this a long time and finally got it in straight, I think. Overall, I would not do this job again. My leak was tiny. I would just let it leak next time and if it got annoying enough, I would take it to a garage where they have done the job dozens of times. Just not worth the hassle.
Wow, lucky you reminded us of it. Gonna replace my vvti line (leaking already) and will clean up that vvti filter, so thanks for the reminder. RM450 for the cover, ouch... thats quite a lot. Will be replacing all 3 serpentine bearings and belt as well. I will try to replace the bearings only (if I can find similar Koyo or NTN bearings) and keep the original rollers, wish me luck lol. Not replacing my overhead gasket yet they are fine still but my tranny is leaking a bit, looking forward to your video on that. For bank 2 overhead gasket, plug replacement, cowling removal will be a tedious job, not difficult but tedious. Thank you
Plug replacement...... yes, not difficult but tedious. So many things to remove ( fortunately its all on top the engine and not hidden behind some hard to reach places) 450 for the cover is OUCH.... but I had no choice. Good luck replacing all the bearings and belt. Shouldn't be too difficult. Probably some bruised knuckles and torn skin to complete the DIY ( really tight spot near the bearings ) Don't think I will be doing anything related to my tranny anytime soon. Just had them fully rebuild in June 2022 after it broke down on me.
Hahaha, at least now you know what would have happened if you started the engine. It was a disaster, so many pulleys to change and the clean up was a nightmare.
Enjoyed the video! Was informative! I just wanted to tell you that you forgot to attach that earth wire back onto the rocker cover. Its dangling off to the side when you put the engine cover back on. Just letting you know! Keep up the mechanical work!
Very good video and accompanying explanation 👍 Although you made a costly mistake, it's very noble of you to highlight it so that we don't make the same mistake 🏆 Also a very cat/pet loving gentleman 🥰... Will always support your channel & hope many others would too 👍 Wishing you every success in your future endeavours 🤲
Thank you so much. While I like the idea of being the ideal "never make a mistake" kind of content creator, I think that we will learn better from each other's mistake as well. Thank you so much for your support.
Wow, this kinda job is not for the faint of heart! Respect! Lucky it's only on one side, if it happens on the other side, will you need to unmount the entire engine to reach it? Thanks for sharing!
I think if it happened on the other side.... i will probably..... think 10 times before attempting since the other side is narrow and hard to reach. But still doable, just need to remove the intake manifold..... which means removing a lot of other things also.
TQ so much. Any idea where I can get the workshop manual for this car..... I seem to find bits and pieces everywhere and the info varies from sources. Can't seem to find a Haynes Workshop manual for this car.
@@TCsAnythingGoes Many public libraries in the US have online subscriptions to the Chilton auto repair library. Access to the Chilton Library is usually free for library patrons. There are some paywalled repair manual sites as well; when I try to post the URL for them, my comment gets rejected by the YT content censor. Years ago I bought paper copies of the service manuals for my Toyota vehicles and they were excellent helps for me as a DIY mechanic. I don't think Toyota publishes these manuals any more, but I've heard that you can buy short-term access to an official online Toyota service manual.
@@aviarto Thanks. I recently purchased a digital copy of the workshop manual for this car. Been pretty helpful considering finding info on this car online is challenging and forums have deferring information.
any suggestion on how to install the spark plug seals in, mines not going in as smooth as yours. I used a socket and tried to knock it in and looks like its ripping the seal.
those seals are the easiest part of this DIY. Let me know what is the part number of your plug seals. There are two possibilities that I can think of now which is - wrong plug seals purchased - the three tabs are not open fully.
@TCsAnythingGoes It's not as bad as most people think. I've done it on the Camry, Highlander, Sienna and Avalon. It just takes patience, time and the right tools.
@@toemad4205 Just a ratchet and socket set, few extensions and a U joint. Nothing special. Once you take off the intake which is simple, then it's just a matter of unbolting the the valve cover and lifting up the wire loom to get the valve cover out. I think I need to do a video for my channel since people fear this job so much lol. There really isn't a lot of videos for it, but I found this one ruclips.net/video/NP9qaAHGkAs/видео.htmlsi=CswGEo1_G1Pj2wz6

Great video. My car is already opened and today is going to be fun day. Have to watch your video few times. I learned a lot. Thanks brother
If I ever need to do this, will watch you again. Nice video!
Tagging for reference later of Lexus RX350 2GRFE engine valve cover gasket replacement. Thanks for the vid.

I did the same mistake before finding your video, except I figured I should not even start the engine. Now I have to find a used valve cover. 😅

I just did my front cover that bolt a a bit to get back on without stripping it, just gotta be very careful when screwing it back on,

@@TCsAnythingGoes no you dont have to drop the engine to get to the other side just have to use special tools to get in those tight spots in the back
Nice video 👍. Do you have a part number for the single o-ring? I can only find the number for the figure8 one.
Part Number: 90430A0001
Thanks for sharing
What is the part # for the two crush washers that go on the banjo bolt on the vvt oil line, the one with the tiny filter?
Did you ever change the rear gasket?
22:11 The torque specification for the 12 mm valve cover bolts is 21 N·m, not 11. Also, there is a recommended bolt tightening sequence.

Thank you! I think (check your engine) this video should also apply to the 2007 RX350 Lexus, as it is the same engine with the car this video shows.
Yes, you are correct as both cars uses 2GR-FE engines.
