Transitioning from high school to college is probably one of the hardest things you’ll do in your life. I wanted to give you a real rundown of what the first week of college is actually like. In this video I talk about frosh week, move in day, classes, how to make friends, college parties, roommates, and much more! I think a lot of you might be intimidated by the fact that everything is new, and you don’t know anyone. So you’re scared that you’re not going to make friends in college. But after watching this video, you’ll know what to expect in your first week so now you’re going to be okay. I don’t want you to be a lost little freshman. You’re going to start off strong. I believe in you!

One tip I have is be comfortable with being uncomfortable, purposely seek discomfort! (Love YesTheory btw) anyways, this helps so much to grow as an individual
that was my mentality heading into freshman year college last fall. I stuck with it thru the fall and fell off hard, not grade wise, but mentally through the spring semester. I just lost it, but stick with it and don't give up. u got it

Im going to grand valley state university this fall and winter semester. Just registered for classes today. They are still doing face to face classes
JH Gaming yeah my school said we are starting classes in September as schedule regardless. The professors were told to prepare for online lessons because it’s easier to switch back to in person than the opposite
Online lesson is much better than in person cuz you don’t have to interact with other people.

People overexaggerate the transition from high school to freshman year of college. First two semesters are basically all intro courses. Test were usually easier than hs tests imo. Freshman to sophomore year is where college really starts

reading these comments, i feel like i'm the only one that's nervous and kinda scared of college, not excited. i'm a high school senior and i'm dreading college, but maybe that's just my anxiety lol.
starciel I felt your pain too 😂 I remember getting dropped off to college for my 8 am (yes my mom actually wanted to drop me off my first day ahahahahah) but it’s really great. Something that I noticed that he didn’t mention is that professors usually go over syllabus for about 15-20 min and then already move on to course work (something I was not expecting at all). Like seriously I was already taking pages of notes on the first day. But trust me when I say this, *cough cough* COLLEGE IS SO MUCH BETTER THAN HIGH SCHOOL. I felt like I was suffocating in high school and college gives you so much freedom which is why people can fail. Those people don’t know how to time manage and it shows when they repeatedly get terrible grades. But all of the friends you’ll make are countless, it might take a couple of weeks (I made my friends at Orientation and in classes) but trust me that they’re just as nervous as you. You got this

starciel you’re not the only one, I used to avoid talking about college for months and when I would I would usually have a panic attack. Now since it’s almost the end of the school year I’ve kind of accepted it and learned that yeah it’s gonna suck for a bit but as cheesy as it sounds, everything is going to be okay eventually, I just have to be open for new experiences and try to make it enjoyable.

I'm a college dropout and I gotta say, I think the mix of having terrible roommates and not making the right friends at the beginning of the semester freshman year was a good 50% of the reason I dropped out. Having a toxic girlfriend didn't help with that either xD

That’s how I met all my friends
I just felt like sharing this thought here. I've had an amazing time at the beginning of this school year. It was a time where everybody is new and excited to meet you. I made a lot of good friends and had a great time since. But damn do I feel robbed of my student life thanks to this coronavirus situation. Your first year as a student is the year where everything is new, your second year will be much different and familiar.
I was looking forward so much to these months...

I'm a college student who studied two years at a community college, have dropped out for at least 5 years due to finances and other things, been working full time since then, and now planning on going back to the community college to take a few more classes before thinking about moving to a four year university for my astrophysics major I'm going for. And I'm not the greatest when it comes to socializing, but friends are great to have. :) I like your positive energy and enthusiasm, wish I could have a friend like you! 🙂

@@hafu They are both correct according to the Oxford Dictionary, syllabi is less frequent though, even my spell checker says syllabi is spelled incorrectly.

Quan Pham interesting 🤔 literally every teacher/administrator/professor in several districts and colleges I've been at all use “syllabi”. Although I would buy that it can be both. It just sounds like one of those “both work” kinda things in English.

No! You can take classes online. Depending on where you live or what college you go to, they may change it to online. But don’t think it’ll be the online style where you go at your own pace. You’ll still have live lectures, where you can actually ask questions! I’m doing that this semester since COVID-19 came about in mid-March. They really want you to pass.

Yeah imma go ahead and sub. All jokes aside, college will be starting this Sunday and it where i'll be moving into my dorm. Being a person who has social anxiety makes it really complex for me to get out of my comfort zone. I do want to make new friends and i do want to make an effort to forge this experience into something grand and enjoyable; although, i'm scared cause socializing isn't my forte so i fear that i may end up islolated or with little friends similarily like high school. Its just this constant battle in my head between my anxiety and my desire to socialize.

When he said you maybe weren’t that social in high school, I felt that DEEP WITHIN MY SOUL OMG. Half the people in my grade do drugs (not even joking) and then the others I don’t rlly fit with. (They’re usually racist. I’m from a small school in the middle of nowhere so it’s common and heh I’m Asian.)
I think the drugs are pretty common. Find some non-insecure people and make friends with them

im terrified for college, but i also cant wait to get out of my hometown. i just dont feel prepared or in control in any way and its a scary feeling. im fucking pumped to meet more people like me and have more opportunities to party tho lmao
When you get to campus, everyone will be in the exact same position as you: some will be happy, some will be scared shitless hahaha, some will “think” they aren’t ready which isn’t true, and more. Everyone will be acting differently in VERY different ways but deep down, everyone is terrified. It’s a completely new world with so many new people, places, responsibilities, learning experiences, etc. always remember as you are entering this new world, everyone is in the same position. When you get settled in your dorm, especially with your roommates, talk to them!! Start up conversations!! Make the most of the experience and if you find something hard, RESPOND to the situation and find a solution to make it easier. Don’t ever dwell on a situation, respond to it! That’s the key! When it comes to people in general, you will find your community of people and friends who share similar beliefs, passions, interests, etc. but it does take time. Be patient but also have the courage to put yourself out there, explore campus before week 1, talk to people on your floor and if you are declared in a major try meeting people on the school’s social media chat for incoming freshmen who are in your major and meet up with them when you get to campus! Also use this opportunity to start meeting people in general. I’ll be a sophomore in college this upcoming fall! I learned a lot, I saw a lot, and I experienced A LOT my first year- but everything somehow falls into place. You’ve got this! Good luck!

However , one difference is, that now you get to pick, your classes
And you have to sign up for , and pay for them.
In high school , that was done for you.

In finland this sounds more like a transition from middle school to high school. Many start partying and you choose your classes, lots of skip hours too.
