1. Don’t over boast about your high school accomplishments It is important to recognize and be proud of the things you have achieved in high school, however, it is not something people want to hear all the time. Basically, do not excessive brag about it. Try to be humble and know your place. 2. Manage your time Probably the simplest one, yet most important and hardest of them all. Pretty sure this one doesn’t need much explaining haha. But having a planner or some sort of agenda can help map out your schedule and make things easier for you! Doing things ahead of time can also help solve the issue of cramming and relieve a lot of stress. 3. You don’t need to go out all the time Just because your friends are going out, doesn’t necessarily mean you have to join them. Especially if you go out several nights in a row, it can be very straining on your body. Know your limits and your priorities. 4. Utilize your school’s resources College is expensive and you want to make sure you’re making the most of it. Take advantage of all the opportunities your school has to offer such as tutoring, internship opportunities, advising, etc. 5. It’s okay to accept that you’re not okay Adjusting to college is very difficult and understanding your troubles is perfectly fine. Whether it’s being homesick or school is simply too rough for you is okay. It is what you plan to do about it that makes the difference. Take the initiative and seek help through counseling and your mentors. 6. Don’t compare yourself to others Constantly dwelling over the accomplishments of others only burdens yourself. Instead of wasting your energy comparing, take action and better your own self. 7. Keep your home home I guess this one only applies if your dorming, but you want to make your room as comfortable as possible. If you’re going to be spending a lot of time in your room doing homework, or whatever it may be, you at least want it to be a pleasant and enjoyable place. 8. Take time for yourself It is okay to take breaks and unwind. Don’t overburden yourself to much with school. After all, your health and body is important! I’m only a freshman in college, but after a semester of study, I think these tips stand true and very helpful! Another great video as always Nic👌Good luck to all my uni fellows and wish you the best of luck on your finals👍
My #1 tip as a student that I find 90% of students don't take advantage of is... Applying for bursarys and scholarships trough your schools website. I wasn't that smart in college but I recieved in total almost 10 grand that i didn't have to pay back. It literally takes 10-15 minutes to apply and i didn't even apply to all of them.
College is pretty chill. My main tip is go at your own pace. Not everyone graduates in 4 years and that's perfectly ok. Take it seriously from the get-go. That's so you can learn to relax instead of wasting time learning to work hard. Sophomore year as an RA and nursing major, I joined so many more clubs, went to more events and still had a handful of free time. My 4.0 wasn't effected. Good video. Don't compare yourself is great advice. There will always ALWAYS be someone who does better than you. Your only competition is yourself.
“You’re only competition is yourself” that hit me hard since I always compare myself to other. Since I came in this country 3 years ago I had little knowledge and everyone is better than me. They’re already took 2+ AP; I’m in high school btw.
I love that first one 😂 he laid it out STRAIGHT LIKE THAT no bullshit. Man, from a college kid in NY I appreciate this video because these college freshmen are cocky as hell and it’s ridiculous. Good luck with this last month-ish of the semester! Happy Thanksgiving Man 👏🏾👏🏾
I Think 'Time management " and "not have to going out all weekends" are the most important advice many students relate too. When you are homesick with bunch of new exciting freedom. All you want to do is probably hangout and procrastinate . So that you don't left out and feel FOMO big real. It is very hard to think independently . Managing time wisely is very important in college. Especially when you are in Greek life and have many things going on . It's only so easy to waste time when there is so many parties going on especially in the begining of freshman year. Feel relate on a whole level .
the first one hit hard. not me. but my orientation had some kid who would not shut up about how he's a scholarship athlete and a state competitor in high school. he was like "they called me the golden jet" 100% seriously. it was really hard not to laugh. i meet a lot of people in high school that seem to think they're the shit but to watch someone get humbled so fast is really something else. i'm excited to meet people i can have good conversations with, who aren't completely ego-centric as many people from my high school were.
Lol Yeah, I think more people should live by these rules, then maybe we wouldn't have so many people that are stuck up and/or Lost (That's just a generalization)
This sounds on point. Other things that help are getting 8+ hours of sleep, joining clubs, exercising, and not going out on weekdays (back to getting enough sleep).
I am gonna be a high school senior this year and its really crazy how much personal growth I have went through. Like I went from not placing any effort in my grades freshman year to always making sure I place my best foot forward. At the end high school will really pass by in a speed! I am excited for the college process but really nervous.. so hopefully all goes well. Class of 21!
This is great advice. I might be going to Jackson State Community College soon. When I graduate from, I'm going to transfer to the University Of Memphis at Lambuth & I'll double major in English and History. I graduated from high school in 2010. I was in a very emotionally fucked up play back then & I also wasn't very mature. But I've matured a lot & I'm in a better place, mentally & emotionally.
definitely one of the best college advice videos i’ve ever watched. as a current freshman you talked about exactly what i’ve been feeling. most advice videos don’t touch base on mental health so i really do appreciate that. one of the main things i got out of this video is to not just survive, but thrive. thanks man.
8:24 Thank you for saying this! No matter which video I watch no one tells me this. I always feel like I have to complete some form of homework which is okay but obsessing over it is not healthy and providing time for myself on the weekend is the healthiest thing I can do. I have to remind myself I’m human.
Just found your channel, super helpful and informative video. I’m about to start my freshman year of college, and everything you said has crossed my mind either once or twice before. Thanks dude!
I'm a freshman at university in Iran.university is a bit different here from what you described(till now atleast).I feel overwhelmed by the way our professors teach and generally i'm having a hard time.your video was helpful, thank you 💜
Mr. Chae. Congratulation on making it to your sophomore year. As a High School Teacher I share all of these except #7 as things they need to know and do. Some listen and some don't. You know what happens to those that don't. I think I will make this required for my seniors.
Lol ik this video is a year old, but could you make a video about your experience of “utilizing your school resources”. Like what were things you were asking for and what was the process. It’ll be a great thing to learn like I wouldn’t think of asking for video equipment and stuff like that. Thanks for this video btw :) v helpful I’m subscribing lollll
My advice as a guy graduating with multiple degrees/certs... One, it's a degree... It does not define you or make you knowledgeable. Doesn't make you better. Learn a side skill, practical one. Suggestions: CAD, R, python, GIS, Adobe, business, hazard environmental, hazmat, sampling, communication, etc. Apply it for projects. Not passive study. Passive study is shit for reaching in deep. It's good for skimming and getting back a feel but not deep learning. In your free time.
Absolutely. If anything, I wish I could have realized how important keeping a good GPA is when I was a freshman/sophomore. Keeping good grades and learning good habits in high school is to prepare you for college, where your performance does matter and will follow you for the rest of your life. But don’t stress too much of it, the real essay stressing will happen late 11th-12th grade, so for now just keep your grades up and take part in long lasting (entire high school) extracurriculars. Best of luck and I wish you success in the next 4 years :)
My thoughts throughout this video: 1. Glad Im already humble-I hate myself 😊 2. Lol time management? Don't know her (but I'm trying to fix this lol) 3. Go out? You think I have friends? H a 4. Im actually got at this 5. My campus has a free therapist I'm so happy about it. Never been scared to not be okay 6. Don't compare myself? I only wish I couldn't. It puts me into hyperdrive tho 7. This point has been drilled into my head, don't take your whole room to college 8. Im really good at my alone time. Love binging to wind down In all seriousness, thank you. I'm trying hype myself up for college (as a brand new senor in highschool)
Going into my freshman year in September kind of worried because I know for sure being a bio major will be hard simply because math isn’t my thing 🤦🏾♂️
Also, not all of your knowledge of how undergrad works will transfer to grad school. It can be a very different world. A lot of people go to undergrad because they *have* to. A lot of people go to grad school because they *want* to. It means people take everything a lot more seriously.
