Hey! My name is Hafu Go and I'm a dreamer. For the past year, I made it my life mission to study patterns of success for students. I traveled across the world to interview students from top schools like Harvard, MIT, and Stanford. These college tips are what I wish I knew before starting my freshman year. Don't make the same mistakes as me.
I remember my first day of college, I felt so lost. Both physically and mentally. First day, I was late for class because I couldn’t find my classroom. And I felt confused because I expected my life to instantly change for the better, yet I still felt a burning sense of angst. I wanted to punch someone every time they asked me “what do you want to do with your life…” Because honestly, I just didn’t now.
As college classes ended recently, I find myself reflect back on my four year experience. I sometimes wonder what advice would I give myself if I could meet Hafu when he was first starting college.
You’re not gonna talk to 90% of your high school friends
If you only go to class and nothing else, you’re not gonna have a good time.
Your greatest memories will come from what scares you the most. Use fear as a GPS for things that will help you grow.
Do cool things in the summer. Screw summer school.
Figure out what you want in life. There’s no better chance to do it than in college. If you don’t do it now, you never will. How? By pursuing your interests.
Don’t be afraid to be different. Everyone in UBC Sauder wanted to go into finance or accounting. I went into marketing. Everyone in marketing wanted to work in consulting or brand management. I went into digital marketing and started my own RUclips channel.
You will fall a couple of times in college. But that’s okay. You’re young. So you’ll heal quickly like the wolverine. So dare to dream! Use your fear as your GPS towards personal growth. When it comes to usual asian family setting, my parents always pressure me to study hard and perform best at class which actually makes me nervous and feel more pressure as I am about to enter college as well.
Thank you for this video, it was really helpful. It made me realize that mistakes are still important to grow and improve and ofc I have to enjoy the experiences and challenges given to me.

This video is so helpful! I am 21 almost 22 and I was homeschooled all my life. I am praying/considering college. I want to study music and possibly theater. I am scared to death. Having never been at a school with a lot of people and classes. That last part especially was inspiring for me! Thank you! 🙏🏻☺️

Watching this while already finishing up my second year of university xD. But I still love the content and I hope that, like you, I will also find something I'm passionate about :). I find too many things interesting, so I have a lot of trouble figuring out what I want to do exactly, but I have to choose something soon... Enjoy college but life after can be very hard and different than the glory days of school. I loved it so much then one day its just over. Like what just happened?
Save yourself time and money and get a STEM degree. Enjoy the person you are in school but not being negative but there's so many twists and turns after im glad and treasure those precious years but it maybe different after. Get therapy to help

Why did you only visit American universities? Could you do videos on British universities such as Oxbridge/Imperial and UCL?
I’m starting with American universities because they were the closest. I’ll visit oxford once I read 100k subs!!
@@hafu Ah lovely, you're fantastic mate. I personally don't know a substantial amount about Oxford, just that many Prime Ministers and quite a few Nobel laureates came from there. If you go to Cambridge, however, be sure to visit Trinity College, the institution that bred great minds such as Issac Newton and Physicist Ernest Rutherford.
For a modern scientific institution, be sure to visit Churchill College, some say the MIT of Cambridge, but it still welcomes people doing modern languages/classics. Churchill has developed many scientific minds such as Francis Crick (Discoverer of DNA) and mathematician Ian Stewart.
