Loving these update videos! They are helping people make informed decisions - rather than most car channels just focus on entertainment and no education!
⚠️This is out of date. Recently JLR have invested £70m updating the security systems of 2018 models onwards. All Keyless entry owners should keep their keys in a Faraday cage or disable the keyless entry function. (common knowledge)
"Challenge the road" my arse. He's talking absolute bollocks regarding insurance premiums. I pay £369 a year for 2014 Vogue V8. I don't live in London, that's the key + I have a £5 Faraday pouch.
Thanks for all you're doing, us owners need all the help we can get! Strikes me though it's not the fear of theft that's making the premiums rocket, it's greed on the insurers part because, as pointed out in your video, they're not reducing premiums for 3rd party only policies.
It will be genuinely interesting to hear what they have to say. I believe that JLR honesty don't give a dam about customers. In the same way that they are turning their back on customers that lost their cars in Derby. When the dealership flooded.
@Mr93616 McLaren are famous for their dreadful customer care.... Yet people still buy McLaren. JLR have 6 (sometimes more) models in the UKs top 10 most unreliable cars. They are the easiest to steel and Customer Care is really not great. Sadly Mugs keep buying them!
Land Rover just don't care about this issue! The more vehicles which get stolen. the more they can sell. At least, this was their ethic. Now, the insurance premiums have sky rocketed, making them less attractive. The Keyless-go function has made this phenominon possible. It's truly disgusting that LR have such a "We don't give a damm" attitude to this issue 🤮 Just don't buy a LR!!!
Have you seen the film Christine? If only they fitted a system that moved the drivers seat as high and as far forward as possible if a code was entered incorrectly!
Please keep going Richard, I've a RR L405 2017 V6 diesel.. bought it in 2018 outright insurance is due this June... really worried cars not worth much now and seriously spoiling my semi-retirement.. keep up the good work...
I was at JLR this week for MOT & Add blue topup…… I asked bout any security recalls or updates for my 2018 R/R Sport?… the reply was “Don’t know what you’re talking about, we ain’t doin nuffink!”….Apparently, if you want ‘ghost’ or anything security be our guest!!… Excellent, dwindling R/R owners are on their own!!
Can I add my personal thanks for all your time and effort in this matter. I rang (again) National Farmers Union for a quote and told them that on the 15th August 2023 my 2019 RRS has had the security patch update N693 and was told that they don't recognise it and again refused to underwrite the car. So much for the JLR's updated security. If there is anything I can do to help please let me know and I'll add my voice and name to correspondence to JLR.
i was all set to order a new Land Rover Defender 90.... i was told the first years insurance would be via JLR so sensible...but the second year I was on my own it was going to go sky high... needless to say I haven't ordered it...
If they have an insurance product, why does it stop after the first year? Could be a good idea for peace of mind to continue, even if it was for the duration of the first owners tenure.
My daughter wants to get an Evoque. I told her to get an XC40 instead. A much better car but she is hypnotised by the bling factor I'm afraid. Did have an Evoque and the alternator belt gave up 2 weeks from new and left me stranded. Got rid quickly and currently driving an XC90 and it's bomb proof !!!.
Thank you for shining a light on this worrying subject, since having my last RangeRover stolen from my gated drive I have fitted surveillance cameras to the area and disabled the "keyless go" which I think is the main cause of quick and easy theft. Your efforts might help calm the insurance hysteria and give some guidance as to the best way to reduce our insurance costs.
I have a 2011 L322 SC that Im trying to insure but getting quotes in excess of £4k. These are not the Land Rovers, I think, that are being targeted by thieves yet insurance co. especially the so called specialist, are not noting the differences betweeen keyless cars etc. Thanks for your investigation into this issue. It's your videos that made me realise it wasn't just me.
Thank you for raising this, especially I am frustrated at the lack of coverage this is getting in motoring press & suspect its possibly related to advertising revenues with JLR. Only those 'who know' seem to be aware of this issue. I had my Evoque stolen October 22 , it was located the same day but took 3 months to get it sorted. so its not just being stolen, its all of the hassle associated with getting things fixed & sorted. JLR dealers keep stating 'oh we have tracker available'. Whilst comforting it can be located quickly, I dont want to know where it is, I want to be sure it isn't stolen in the first place & JLR seem to just stick their head in the sand & not comment. If JLR really took this seriously they would underwrite all insurance policies for their product, with 'sensible' insurance quotes & demonstrate their commitment to owners by putting their money where their mouth is and show 'real' commitment & faith in their product.
As a large part of an insurance premium is based on statistics for likelihood of theft and the probability of a total loss payout, it will take several years of lower theft rates before there is a meaningful impact on the statistics. Hence, don't hold your breath expecting insurance premiums to drop quickly once the recalls are done because they won't. I doubt there will be much change in premiums until 2025/6. The algorhythms the insurance companies use for calculating statistical probability will have inertia and err on the side of caution.
I was on a chat with JLR and they said may 2018 RRS wasn’t affected and therefore doesn’t need a recall but 8:39 when I asked for them to confirm in a letter they hung up. Twice it happened
Thank you so much Richard for taking up this battle on behalf of Range Rover owners. My insurance premium is due for renewal on 20 January and I fear the worse. I have a Feb 2016 Range Rover Autobiography, fully spec'd, 60,000 miles, beautiful car.... WE BUY ANY CAR have just offered me £18,000 for it....... about half it's true value, and no doubt the value my insurance company would offer me if it was stolen and not recovered. It's a scandalous situation. Your idea to form an Independent Insurance company is very credible and I am sure every owner would back you. If all else fails, we need to blockage main Agents with our vehicles and bring their businesses to a standstill. Best wishes, keep up the good work. Mike Cumiskey.
Thank you for taking on the crusade on behalf of all us Range Rover owners. I am currently on my 5th Range Rover (and my 7th Jaguar) and I would hate it to be my last. Unless things improve I will not be buying any more JLR cars, ever! I just won’t be able to insure them and I don’t need the stress.
Good Man please keep up the good work 👍 The only reason JRL have spent such sums on the recall is not customer related but its affecting their bottom line. Who in the right mind would purchase a RR with the risks involved, also how long before the thief's manage to conker the new security.
I've watched a few of your videos in the past and almost subbed but Geoff told me to sub so I've done as I was told. I'm not a RR fan, never have been...but I like what you are doing👍🏻
Appreciate what you are doing. I've always run a Range Rover. Love them. JLR need to underwrite their own insurance scheme until they resolve the security issues it seems. They'll kill their brand and market otherwise anyway.
Many thanks for posting this. Had no idea that this was much a massive issue. Hope you can get JLR to sit up and take notice. If they don’t it’s really commercial suicide for the brand going forward
I have had 5 JLR cars,Discos and Range rovers, but gave up on them a few years ago, mainly reliability and repair costs. Now if you add in insurance cost and hassle of having it stolen I am glad I moved on.
Ghost Immobiliser! I don't understand why more people with expensive cars don't know about this. In fact it's baffling how insurance companies don't insist on one being installed.
I sold my 2017 RRS, which I have had from new, last month, I live in the countryside a long way away from the citys, and my insurance when from £220 per year in 2021 to £590 in Aug 2023, my insurance company said that it would be closer to £1500 for the 2024 renewal, so that is a 6 fold increase in 36 months. I now own a 2023 BMW 540d touring, insurance is £330 per year. But this month has seen unprecedented floods where we live, would have been nice to have still had the RRS, instead, we just have to stay at home 😀 roll-on summer !! Just for information my wife and I have had 5 JLR cars over the past 12 years, but sadly we will not be going back to the brand, I think this may be the beginning of the end...
Love my Range Rover Sports I have a 2019 model and my insurance went up from £375 last year to £1150...no accidents or claims. I've rang several JLR dealers regarding the security upgrade/ recall and my car isn't due for it according to them! So annoying
Had a Range Rover Evoque on order and was getting quotes £6500 on the outskirts of London. I was going to pull out, but then all of a sudden the prices of MY24 cars dropped to £900! Checked on MY23.5 cars still sky high! Hopefully, this is a good sign that insures have confidence in the new models with ‘the fix’
thanks for your help in this matter. I have owned a rr sport for eight years its covered 55 thousand miles and is like new.I worked hard for it and its my pride and joy.Now it seems that A its almost worthless and B no fault of mine i wont be able to insure it.Am i being simplistic when i suggest that ins co. issue policys without theft cover, this would make owners take more care of anti theft measures and stop bogus write off claims Thanks again
I have a 2017 Velar D300 and it was valued approx 5 months ago at £32k by WBAC and now they value it at around £20k, now that is obscene depreciation and completely unrealistic. Iv been on to JLR and said about the recall which my 17 car does not qualify. I asked why not they replied “I don’t know sir”. I’m not selling right now as I’m optimistic the value should back up, at least I hope so. Love the work you’re doing and I hope you get a good result. Huge well done to you.
If you’d like to sell in 3 months I’ll offer you £14k for it..Only kidding, but seriously though we mustn’t get too attached to our cars - afterall they’re just pieces of metal with a bunch of moving parts
I sold my L322 a few months ago and currently have an X5. I wanted to go back to a Range Rover but after watching your upload I thought I would see what the insurance on my old car would be. Went from just under £700 to over £6k. Crazy situation and I will not be considering a Land Rover product now
This also is true of older Range Rovers. I live on a small island in the Hebrides and have driven Range Rovers for over thirty years. This year my insurance declined to quote because mine is a “high risk vehicle”. I went on to the internet and the same company quoted three times my normal premium taking me on as a ‘New Customer’. My car is 2007! What is going on, I’ve been with them for ever? Please write the letter and thanks for putting the effort into this.
It would be great if you can send letter for older Range Rovers. Mine is 2013 Autobiography so think we deserve the upgraded security as well as 2018 on. Great video and massive thanks from me and I imagine all RR owners. 👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you for your video on this, yes please go ahead and say what we're all thinking. It sounds like you'd have more clout than just the average guy with one or even two land rovers. You have my vote anyway ✅ Many thanks.
Excellent video Richard..I'd certainly endorse any letter you produce. I've owned 5 LR's over the years and I know why people like them. But JLR need to get on top of this asap. The issue is getting lots of press now but the thefts been an issue for at least the last 6-12 months. It's now coinciding with "greedflation" by the insurance companies so a very bad double whammy. I've actually just boufht a Velar via a main dealer (sold my Cayenne) but go it way cheaper than what you\d have paid for same car 6-9 months ago so I have taken a bit of a punt and yes insurance ridiculous but I've allowed for that in the financial equation..However JLR have an opportunity here to get control by going back into an insurance JV...I doubt they will but the premiums I am hearing are for example £2-3k + for cars worth £20k to 30k and the ballpark figs seems to be about 5-10% of the value of the car. These rates assume that between 1-in-20 and 1-in-10 cars will be stolen/written off completely which is obviously crazy given even the very worst theft rates. All insurance models work off algorithms which currently tell insurers "don't offer cover/ we do not want the hassle"....So there is an opportunity for some insurers and/or JLR to stabilise the market and make money. Equally JLR need to fit all new cars with the very latest Ghost type system (it's not just about keyless go though that is responsible for a lot of thefts) and offer existing cars the option of a fitting at a sensible price. Publicise that and I guarantee eventually some insurers will look at the business opportunity of charging a rate that assumes 1-in 15 cars are a total loss when in reality it is 1-in-40 or more that get hit. Certainly when I bought my recent Velar (not new but 2-3 years old) the main dealers were awash with cars and open to deals. If people are brave the next 6 months may be the time to get a (relative) bargain..I was helped by selling my 2015 RRS a year ago at a good price so the trade up to the Velar was pretty small in cash terms...if you want details on my insurance costs for both cars (and Cayenne etc) to add specifics to your letter just ask (i'm local to you, recognise all the roads you drive on !!)
Surely anyone that can afford an RR can afford a £500-£600 top of the range immobiliser system. Although JLR are mostly to blame, some of the blame has to be with ignorant owners who stick their heads in the sand and don't bother to secure them and rely on insurance. The thieves will 100% get past the revised JLR security update and these thefts are putting up anyone's premiums, not just RR owners.
Thanks once again for this very informative update! As I mentioned in previous video's you have done on this subject I have a 2017 Range Rover Sport and I asked the question about why are they only covering 2018 onwards? So I'm very interested to hear that you are contemplating a letter to JLR to ask for further updates and will they also cover pre 2018 cars! FYI following your last update I have emailed JLR UK Senior Press Officer Montana Wright to ask about this last Wednesday but to date have not heard back from her!
I have a 2017 Range Rover sport as well. I was on the phone to JLR this afternoon as well about the updates on security they are recalling for models purchased after 2018. The agent did not care a toss about the models pre 2018. My worry is the insurance is expiring in March 2014 and may not be insurable, the way things are going. My current insurance is £1800 and it was the only company who were insuring. Madness and the fact that JLR are not addressing this huge issue. I am even thinking of selling the car after new year if things are not improved.
Thats disappointing that they weren't interested. Lets hope a letter does get sent and can get them to do all the cars affected. @@murtazajanmohamed9778
I've now received a reply from JLR UK Senior Press Officer Montana Wright and she said that "where there is relevant information regarding security available for clients of other vehicles, this will be communicated directly to you either via your retailer or by JLR" This was obviously very vague but it wasn't a straight not happening, so I have replied asking if she can give more specific dates. I hope this may help in some way with your own letter to JLR.
I’m a new subscriber, and after a recent hike in insurance and drop in value of my 2016 Diesel Evoque, I just need to understand what the hell was going on. So thanks to this video I’m beginning to understand …. I’m 70yrs old, full no claims, done 7k mileage in 18 months, and live in a low rate insurance post code. Last year my insurance was £330 fully comp, this year I’m being Quoted £560, and now the value of my car has dropped to just 7-8k. I sat there with my mouth open aghast … I did an insurance comparison check and only 1 other company came through at just £18 cheaper. All the rest were x2 and x3 times higher. Just what the hell and why is this going on??
Yes chase JLR up , I was toying with the idea of an RR but found the insurance on a Cayenne Turbo nearly half the price so it’s a no brainer for me as to my next purchase .
Insurance premium increases isn’t just limited to Land Rover products but also electric cars. However, the latter is more to do with the propensity for the insurance company to write off the car in small accidents due to the batteries
What worries me is, what will happen to a lot of the people employed by Jaguar Land Rover. Customers will just switch to another vehicle brand, and we're already seeing evidence of that happening. But if nobody's buying Land Rover vehicles, then there will be inevitable lay offs of staff. This is going to have far reaching consequences if the problem isn't dealt with soon.
Thank you I had my 1999 T plate auto biography stolen off my drive.in 2001 The insurance company performed and we’re arguing about the value. In the mean time it was found in Manchester due to the road tax running out £25m’s worth of damage I bought it back for £12k then spent £12k repairing it. That was my sixth Range Rover I’m now on my eighth and worrying about my car getting stolen again. More worrying as an OAP is the insurance loading as the factory fitted security is not up to the job. I’m not ready for a Honda civic yet!
Going to take time for the recall and security improvements to impact insurance premiums. I imagine they work with quarterly statistics. It might be 3 or 4 quarters of reduced theft rates before insurers react positively. I imagine the parts availability issues are having a knock on impact here also. Insurers are having to pay a lot for loan vehicles whilst awaiting for crash damage repairs to complete. Double whammy for JLR customers.
At around the 2:15 mark it mentions Congo, Kenya, and Uganda. I can confirm, having spent a lot of time in Kenya and having a business there, that it is not at all unusual to find a vehicle, still on UK plates, being thrashed up the main road from Mombasa to Nairobi either en route to Uganda or the capital. In fact, even vehicles which have been registered in Kenya often have the Kenyan number plate riveted on top of the UK one. The Police (the County police are particularly corrupt) and the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) won't do anything because they'll do anything or ignore anything for "kitu kidogo" (a little something), and they'll happily turn a blind eye to vehicles in transit to Uganda. When I shipped my car back from Kenya to to the UK, Customs weren't even interested in the VIN plate or the V5C. Kenya runs on bribes anyway in my experience, and to the detriment of the majority of locals who can't afford to pay. Fortunately, any vehicle over 8 years old cannot be imported into Kenya, and the KRA do crush such vehicles when they've stopped sleeping.
Dude I went to Tilbury docks there was so many newish cars with the keys on the tyres this is to help them load on the ferries anyone can go there and help themselves to the vehicles so its not only Kenyan or Ugandan issue it is worldwide issue. I went to drop a car off being shipped to Zimbabwe nobody checked paperwork of the car being dropped. You can drop a car and take a car if you wish its wonderful opportunity.
@@sweetvuvuzela4634 I totally agree it's a global issue, but all of those countries (the BBC report didn't mention whether it was the Republic of Congo, or the Democratic Republic of the Congo) have a corruption issue, and UK vehicles are cheap compared to what's locally available. The largest percentage of stolen vehicles from the UK goes to the three countries mentioned in the report though.
Insurance companies are incompetent because if they made it mandatory you have to have a Ghost immobilizer and a visible steering lock these cars wouldn't get stolen i work for a BMW dealer and all our "M" Power cars ie M3 4 5 etc all have to have a Tracker fitted to them before the customer takes delivery as stated by the insurance company,we have cars that have Ghost systems fitted as well and you cannot beat it.
I have owned Range Rovers for 46 years, i believe this may be my last one, Insurance due 1/12/23, premium has doubled, JLR it is up to you if you want to hold onto your loyal customers.
Not just Land Rover products either. I am seeing on a local neighbourhood forum that other brands of vehicles are being stolen. Popular ones getting stolen are Ford Fiesta's, Kuga's, Rangers, Toyota Hilux's, VW Golf's, Audi A3 and A4's.
Brilliant about writing to them, perhaps you can also mention that whilst they have now started doing their own insurance again, why when the CEO recently stated that the new RRS have low stolen figures , Land Rover are quoting over £3700 for mature driver , not in London with Full no claims ?
Premium increases aren’t only driven by theft increases, but also woeful LR parts supply chain issues. If you’re waiting 5 months for a new part, that could be 5 months dealership has to give you a loan car. My ‘19 Disco HSE Luxury. 1st Year Insurance £600, 3rd year £1,600. Shopped around and was quoted £18k!
Its a very worrying topic about the insurance and the ease these cars get stolen. Was in a Landrover Dealer last week with my daughter and son in law who are about to order a new Range Rover Sport and a Defender 130 for next year. Loooong waiting lists........ found so many videos on youtube since then on this topic and trying to talk them out of proceding. Surely they (JLR) must be getting hit on sales on new vehicles as dus gruntled customers begin to shop elsewhere like Mercedes, Audi etc for their next car. Yes, i agree there is nothing like a Range Rover, but with the liklyhood of it being stolen almost guaranteed, i would not want one. We've got a 5 year old Evoque and are now in the habit of parking another car in front of it at night to block it in at night just in case. Surely Land Rover have to acknowlege and fix the problems for its customers before the cystomers are all gone.
Great video and yes … please do so. As someone who has a very reliable 2015 Disco Sport i can’t help but feel us owners (pre 2018) have been left out. I appreciate it’s different software so an update isn’t possible but is that it? Is that a justification for the 1000’s of owners who have the older software. Great video… appreciate you representing us at a Board level… good luck but not holding my breath.
Most insurance companies want a tracker/ghost fitted now which JLR invalidates warranty on so in my opinion they need to stop the warranty ban with a ghost fitted. because no software update is really going to solve this or make insurance companies put prices down.
JLR doing what JLR do best. Not giving a flying duck about their customers. Do they not think that; 1) Mud doesn’t stick? And, 2) The world will know which exact models this affects (I know for sure the insurance companies won’t). We’ll all just categorise all RR’s as ‘will be stolen’.
I remember it being the same with RS cars in the 90’s, this was purely because factory security was useless, Barrel locks, no immobilisers etc, insurance companies basically had the same meltdown on policies, blackouts on areas and postcodes, but this died down due to advanced immobilisers, trackers etc, the insurers need to work with the manufacturers and security manufacturers to have a cast iron guarantee that their vehicles can’t be taken this easily…. However, what we can’t do anything about, is the trends these thieves follow, who knows, next week it might be Audi Q7’s, and they’ll just go back to getting the keys, which is a lot more dangerous for the owners, Remember the Golf R?….😊
I had an Astra GTE in 1988. It cost £1200 to insure. Never paid as much since, including my Ferrari etc. I have a Range Rover, so might beat that Astra next renewal!
saw this coming, sold mine quickly in April. I was partly motivated by an arrogant letter from JLR in Jan to all owners to say they were satisfied their systems were suitable and adequate. Yh, byeeeee
I have an idea! Fit the doors with locks that require a key to get in, problem solved! I have never bought a car with keyless entry unless it can be completely dissabled. It was a stupid idea which obviously posed a massive security risk and should never have got off the drawing board! I hope the manufacturers learn a lesson from reduced sales and make vehicle sucurity better than it once was and not worse.
Subbed looks a good channel this , recommend by Geoff, sounds like the insurance company's don't trust JLR as its been going on for years , tarred with the same brush comes to mind
I have today done exactly what you recommended your sister to do ie told my dealer to keep it. It should have arrived in October, still no sign , every time i speak to the sales guy he tells me my trade in has lost another 2k so now 11 k since August . At this point I feel JLR are just taking the Pi££ . Im quoted anything from 2.5 to 8k for insurance on the new model , I paid £400 last year . Theres still a waiting list or so im told so the dealer wont have problems shifting it if it ever arrives 😂 Ill be visiting the Porsche showroom this weekend.
totally agree with what you say, i am looking to buy an l322 range rover and it seems to me that the owners of older models which are not stolen as no value and don't have the tech that makes them an easy target are being extorted by the insurance companies buy just using range rover as a brand rather than looking at different models. i am 59 with a clean driving record and had a qoute online of £800 for a P38 range rover that i values at £2000
It would be really useful if you could set up an on camera interview with a JLR rep and an Insurance rep from one of the big five. If possible both in the same room. We are the people buying their product, we have questions on how this is affecting us, first world or not, it does matter. It impacts financially and psychologically. We have to have insurance, it's the law. We have to be able to afford the insurance they sell, we have no option. Are UK insurance brokers regulated on price, UK GOV? Make the interview a three way? Invite comment from the Transport Minister.
just like golf r , would i like one on my drive , no thanks , probably be gone by the morning .. my skoda is a year old and me and the wife £200 a year full comp , i dont like lease , i like to buy my cars outright ............. all car makers only do offers on there finance its really annoying they are not interested in cash buyers ............
Because finance is where most of the profit is. But you can allways try to get a good deal on the car with finance, then cancel the finance within 28days and pay the car off, then the salesman loss there commission.
I bought a 18 plate velar 3l v6 paid 39000 for it in December 2022 had same place value it last month 26000 and insurance has doubled but not as bad as some paid 1000 me and the wife have been driving 36 years no claims shocking but really feel for people in big cities
Insurance issues with older cars too for sure, my 10 year old 2013 Discovery 4, insurance last year £986, this year £2090 and same insurer (with additional year NCD). So doubled with no change in circumstance on my part. I tried shopping around but got quotes between £2K and £8K with a number of insurers declining to insure at all. So am sticking with current insurer and sucking up the extra grand this year. Looking to add our other car onto this policy when it's due as they offer a multi car option which may reduce costs a little. Don't want to change the car as it's our second car, not on any finance, well looked after and does everything we need it too. Looks like second hand values are falling anyway so probably best to keep it until it falls apart !!
Interesting update, I did another search today 3 weeks after I renewed and I'm getting quotes of £1100 - £1200 now so something has changed, I wasn't seeing quotes at that level previously at all, lets hope there is a trend here. (One company still wanted £8K though !!)
Right... I was refused insurance again today by "JLR Insurance" on my new RRS Order a £138,000 car. If JLR are secure in their up graded and updated security package why are they not insuring their own products?
Everyone needs Faraday pouches/boxes to keep keys in to stop thieves cloning keys. Trackers also a Ghost immobiliser if thieves gain access to the car they cannot start the engine
Think the old fashioned ‘crook’ locks are part of the answer, I’ve got 2 on me sport lol, 1 on the top of the wheel an me dads old 1 from the 70’s that fits round the brake peddle an steering wheel 👍😎
I was thinking of getting rid of my Range Rover 3 months ago and the quote I got from Motorway wasn't attractive enough to me to go ahead. Last week I decided to get another quote and the valuation was over £10k less! 😕
You are doing a very good thing, if you do write the letter feel free to add my name. Is there a way we could get a petition to JLR it is not good enough for them to produce a luxury vehicle without proper security systems.
This is an unbelievable situation with the blame squarely on JLR, not addressing a security problem/flaw they've known about for a very long time has resulted in this almighty mess, if things weren't already terrible in the secondhand market, and is far from being over for many current JLR owners on PCP when they are due to change their vehicle.... what an absolute nightmare, considering its JLRs own doing for this situation they should do the right thing and absorb the value difference and offer their own Insurance.
If you can’t insure in London and most of these end up sold to people outside of London, the thieves will also migrate to more remote locations (they need to keep the supply flowing). So the premiums will go up everywhere else too. That could be the end for JLR.
Definitely contact them please. I have a 2014 Discovery and so far I've got off very lightly but i wouldn't want to be in the situation of selling my motor because it's too costly to insure.
Just sold my 2019 Range Rover Sport before the prices completely died a death. Out of curiosity I just requested a new insurance quote for the same car and it came back at £1100. Not too bad but double what I was paying last year. I’m 41 and live out in the countryside a good 70 miles from London, for context. But I didn’t have any no claims discount. So not too bad. Quotes must be bad only if you live inside M25?
Thanks for doing this Richard, it’s a public spirited thing to do and Certainly need to focus there mind to the problem They know about it but I’m amazed that they don’t seem to be very worried! Will it take mainstream comics making jokes ( I have a Range Rover, ......do you still? ) to get the matter into get into the public conciseness? Thing is when it does, there not going to be hot property anymore,it will be a tarnished like the rusty Lancias of the 80s that killed the brand To be honest it’s not just range rovers but unfortunately they seem to be the focus as there security does seem a bit suspect and there desirable overseas I’m not an suv fan but I’m glad your doing it Richard
Please go ahead and write the letter. I have cancelled my Range Rover Sport Hybrid because the quotes I got were from £5,800 to £26,000. I phoned 15 insurance companies directly and used 4 Brokers. I only received 4 quotes in total. To give this context my Porsche Macan S insurance is £600 Pa. I was told that even though JLR were improving the security this would make very little difference because Organised Crime (OC) targeted these vehicles for African countries and chopped them up for spares for places like Russia because of the embargo. So OC have markets for Range Rovers and when they set their sights on a car no matter how good the security systems are, they will steal them. I do not want such drama in my life. There are many other amazing cars in this segment. If Range Rover brought out EVs this would one be amazing and two have no market for OC.
It's not the second biggest investment as buying a car isn't a investment Buying a new expensive car is the biggest ,most foolish thing anyone can do If you want to turn 100.000 pound into 50.000 pound ,buy a new land rover
I have one of the last L322 2012 Range Rover's. Not quite 59,000 miles on the clock. It wants for nothing, It gets more love than the wife! But it has keyless start (as they all did entering 2010 onward ) so I keep the keys in RFID pouch's and then in a custom RFID key box when parked at home. But stopping in a public carpark, traffic or anywhere public leaves us momentarily exposed. Whilst arguably not as desirable as the L405 Range Rover that replaced it late in 2012/early 2013, (Messrs Clarkson & Metcalfe will argue that) this where the keyless technology fiasco begins in the Range Rover line-up. So yes please, our voices need to be heard. Whilst I strongly doubt JLR will be interested in supporting customers of such vehicles, no matter how well kept and loved they are, I am part of their next generation of new car customer. Or rather "was".
I will be very interested in what they have to say. My insurance is ok at the moment but the resale value of my car has taken a big hit. Also why when we fit immobiliser and trackers does the insurance not come down? They are quick to push up prices but very slow to bring them down again. Is there any insurance body that could answer or even better fix this?
Hi . I own a 2014 tr sport. I love the car I’ve had it a year now insurance is due in feb. I concerned about the price I will be quoted. And as the value has plummeted , trying to p/exch it for a similar vehicle worries me greatly. What’s your thoughts. Ross

Thanks Simon, going to be interesting how this goes, as you know I will not stop going forward!

@@tez7571 JLR you bell end. Google it.
Thanks for all you're doing, us owners need all the help we can get! Strikes me though it's not the fear of theft that's making the premiums rocket, it's greed on the insurers part because, as pointed out in your video, they're not reducing premiums for 3rd party only policies.
totally agree, just greedy tunnel visioned brokers?
It will be genuinely interesting to hear what they have to say. I believe that JLR honesty don't give a dam about customers. In the same way that they are turning their back on customers that lost their cars in Derby. When the dealership flooded.
If they don't give a dam then they won't be selling any more, so it is not in their interest not to do so.

Thank you Graham
Good video, definitely write the letter please. Thank you and looking forward to an update 👍

i was all set to order a new Land Rover Defender 90.... i was told the first years insurance would be via JLR so sensible...but the second year I was on my own it was going to go sky high... needless to say I haven't ordered it...
If they have an insurance product, why does it stop after the first year? Could be a good idea for peace of mind to continue, even if it was for the duration of the first owners tenure.

I sounds like the best security feature on a Range Rover is it's unreliability. You just have to hope it breaks down before it reaches the chop shop.

Thanks Peter, it cannot go on as has been and we will hopefully get a response.
Same here with my 2011 L322 and I presumed we had been grouped in with new Range Rovers.
Customer Service SUCKS
Thank you so much Richard for taking up this battle on behalf of Range Rover owners. My insurance premium is due for renewal on 20 January and I fear the worse. I have a Feb 2016 Range Rover Autobiography, fully spec'd, 60,000 miles, beautiful car.... WE BUY ANY CAR have just offered me £18,000 for it....... about half it's true value, and no doubt the value my insurance company would offer me if it was stolen and not recovered. It's a scandalous situation. Your idea to form an Independent Insurance company is very credible and I am sure every owner would back you. Good Man please keep up the good work 👍 The only reason JRL have spent such sums on the recall is not customer related but its affecting their bottom line. Who in the right mind would purchase a RR with the risks involved, also how long before the thief's manage to conker the new security.

So annoying
Sometimes it may have been done at your last service, best to check. Everyone’s having this insurance increase, with no fault of there own.

Thank you - yes pushing on with the letter 👍
I fitted everything to my car, had it upgraded at range rover , my insurance went up £700 this year in November on renewal
Problem is that having fitted said tech the insurance companies don't give any discount!

Insurance premium increases isn’t just limited to Land Rover products but also electric cars. However, the latter is more to do with the propensity for the insurance company to write off the car in small accidents due to the batteries
Out of my 4 cars, only my RR went up

What worries me is, what will happen to a lot of the people employed by Jaguar Land Rover. Customers will just switch to another vehicle brand, and we're already seeing evidence of that happening. But if nobody's buying Land Rover vehicles, then there will be inevitable lay offs of staff. This is going to have far reaching consequences if the problem isn't dealt with soon.
Thank you I had my 1999 T plate auto biography stolen off my drive.in 2001 The insurance company performed and we’re arguing about the value. In the mean time it was found in Manchester due to the road tax running out £25m’s worth of damage

Definitely its not good at the moment
I’ve just had to reinsure my 2012 RRS at £1.3k they added a clause that I have to use visible steering lock when parked and locked
I have owned Range Rovers for 46 years, i believe this may be my last one, Insurance due 1/12/23, premium has doubled, JLR it is up to you if you want to hold onto your loyal customers.
100% they need to do more
Not just Land Rover products either.
Also with a ghost fitted .
So if your RangeRover is stolen, go and wait for it at TilburyDock!
🤣
Most insurance companies want a tracker/ghost fitted now which JLR invalidates warranty on so in my opinion they need to stop the warranty ban with a ghost fitted. because no software update is really going to solve this or make insurance companies put prices down.
Same thing killed off the Sierra cos worth back in the day. You couldn't give them away. Seems crazy now.but true.
JLR doing what JLR do best.
Not giving a flying duck about their customers.
Do they not think that;
1) Mud doesn’t stick? And,
2) The world will know which exact models this affects (I know for sure the insurance companies won’t).
We’ll all just categorise all RR’s as ‘will be stolen’.
I purchased a 2023 RR sport my first premium was £760 my renewal is £2100 and this is for a car with upgraded security !
I was looking at a 2017 sport my insurance was going up £35 a month, but the excess was £5000,I left it,thanks great video
Thank you 👍
I have today done exactly what you recommended your sister to do ie told my dealer to keep it.
Theres still a waiting list or so im told so the dealer wont have problems shifting it if it ever arrives 😂
Ill be visiting the Porsche showroom this weekend.
totally agree with what you say, i am looking to buy an l322 range rover and it seems to me that the owners of older models which are not stolen as no value and don't have the tech that makes them an easy target are being extorted by the insurance companies buy just using range rover as a brand rather than looking at different models. i am 59 with a clean driving record and had a qoute online of £800 for a P38 range rover that i values at £2000
You go for it Dude. It will be interesting to hear JLR view on it 👍
Thank you 🙏
It would be really useful if you could set up an on camera interview with a JLR rep and an Insurance rep from one of the big five.
What about the ports? Is there no monitoring of container contents headed to these destinations?
It Crazy surely this could scanned on there way through
just like golf r , would i like one on my drive ,
no thanks , probably be gone by the morning ..
my skoda is a year old and me and the wife
£200 a year full comp , i dont like lease , i like to buy
my cars outright .............
all car makers only do offers on there
finance its really annoying they are not
interested in cash buyers ............
The issue needs to be fixed from the manufacturer. I have a 13 plate RRS and have a ghost immobiliser but my insurance has still doubled this year.
Another great video ‘telling it like it is’ 👍
Thank you
Right... I was refused insurance again today by "JLR Insurance" on my new RRS Order a £138,000 car. If JLR are secure in their up graded and updated security package why are they not insuring their own products?
Everyone needs to check before purchasing - thanks for commenting will add to the letter
Genuinely interested, have you cancelled the order and gone to something different or managed to get insured somewhere else for a reasonable price?
walked away.@@sjs5375
Great Idea!
I think you are 100% correct 👍
JLR Do offer insurance, but they won't insure their own vehicles. Say No More.
If you can’t insure in London and most of these end up sold to people outside of London, the thieves will also migrate to more remote locations (they need to keep the supply flowing). So the premiums will go up everywhere else too. That could be the end for JLR.
Richard, your videos about RR security and insurance are very useful. Until I found them I was considering a Range Rover. Now I am not !
Definitely contact them please. I have a 2014 Discovery and so far I've got off very lightly but i wouldn't want to be in the situation of selling my motor because it's too costly to insure.
I am on it Mick 👍
Just sold my 2019 Range Rover Sport before the prices completely died a death. Out of curiosity I just requested a new insurance quote for the same car and it came back at £1100. Not too bad but double what I was paying last year. I’m 41 and live out in the countryside a good 70 miles from London, for context. But I didn’t have any no claims discount. So not too bad. Quotes must be bad only if you live inside M25?
That’s seems pretty good compared to others on comments 👍
Thanks for doing this Richard, it’s a public spirited thing to do and
Certainly need to focus there mind to the problem
They know about it but I’m amazed that they don’t seem to be very worried!
Will it take mainstream comics making jokes ( I have a Range Rover, ......do you still? ) to get the matter into get into the public conciseness?
Thing is when it does, there not going to be hot property anymore,it will be a tarnished like the rusty Lancias of the 80s that killed the brand
To be honest it’s not just range rovers but unfortunately they seem to be the focus as there security does seem a bit suspect and there desirable overseas
I’m not an suv fan but I’m glad your doing it
Richard
Thanks Richard, will do my best
Great video, wife has a Discovery Sport 2019, will this be recalled?
Thank you, yes this is available for the recall.
Thanks@@Challengetheroad
I got ghost2 installed on my 21reg vogue still not been stolen fingers crossed.
It's not the second biggest investment as buying a car isn't a investment
Buying a new expensive car is the biggest ,most foolish thing anyone can do
If you want to turn 100.000 pound into 50.000 pound ,buy a new land rover
is Purchase better for you?
Iv got a 2016 Range Rover V8 how do I stand? It’s very bad on JLR if they say you’re on your own.
This recall is for 2018 onwards but lets push for older cars to be updated next!
One lady in london quoted 100 thousand to insure ,,nobody else would and with 80 a day going missing in london alone no wonder ,,😢
Ghost mobiliser and iron steering lock, keys in faraday box job done.
Ross
