It's made to be reliable for only 50k-60k miles. That's because it's a tax write off vehicle for business owners to put money back into the economy. It's not a Honda, Lexus,Toyota. You only see old foreign luxury vehicles being purchased in the young people usually in poverty stricken areas or people who want to look like they have money.
Exactly this! When I had my construction company I leased brand new BMWs and never had to worry about spending so much time and money fixing them like this girl went through. I would go bananas being at a repair shop all day!
Folks, there is a lesson here. The lady went through hell with this range rover and at the end of it all, she still calls it an amazing and beautiful car she is still in love with. The lesson is akin to why women still go after bad boys
As a private dealer and former car sales, my advice is to stop purchasing expensive luxury cars from carmax, carvana, and other side lots. You buy luxury from the manufacturers dealers only! Places like carmax and etc... cannot fix nor back those vehicles with technical warranty issues. Most dealers don't like to even touch them because they aren't certified and inspected to their standards. Word to wise stay away from German, Swedish, Italian, and swiss brand auto makers unless purchasing from that particular brand dealer. Japanese brands are your most reliable to purchase elsewhere.
Lexus and Toyota all the way. Currently have a 2013 Lexus GS with 250k miles. Only replaced fluids, tires and brakes since new. Driving this car until it won’t go anymore.
Alot people don't research the vehicle before they buy it that rover if the fuel injectors go bad the dealer want 6200 to replace them stop going by just looks along do little research alot of them theses people who buy thoses rover really can't afford it getting alot of credit two cars on credit theses type of women our mess up credit card s apartment rent 50000 and 18000 68000 in loans credit card s buy a house
I’m on my third Range Rover. Always buy these things brand new and lease them for 36 months. Maintenance package and tires all included. Owning any luxury car outside of warranty is an expensive headache. Happy that you were able to get into another car. Blessings!
Lexus IS very reliable - she bought the wrong vehicle. What a money pit. Now I know why there is a video "Why are used Range Rovers so Cheap" here on RUclips. What a nightmare.
Owned a supercharged sport gas, of course. Didn't even know they made diesels in mass. My suspension gave me so many issues, the bags and sensors. After several thousand dollars and weeks, which turned to months in the shop. I finally capitulated. It just came off my credit this year Absolute mess. Never again with that brand. Never. Now I watch hours and hours of videos on vehicles I'm interested in and I haven't had any more problems with vehicles. You tube is a wealth of information.
Yeh my 2016 suspension problems have been a nightmare since i got the truck …atm it’s in the shop fixing the suspension again….will be getting out of it at the top of the year…never again
@@BoHannon-kx6kb 3 years max, anything over that, you’re practically paying MSRP. I do Zero down, because if you wreck it, you wont get that money back. (Yes, if your credit is good, you can absolutely lease with ZERO down). Nonetheless, we are currently in a buyers, so make sure to negotiate. :)
Sorry you had trouble. You’re right, they are amazing vehicles. So 1) always use OEM DEF BMW, Audi, VW, Jag or Land Rover. The peak DEF sucks and can throw codes and the dreaded shutdown. The vehicle can’t measure the quality of the DEF, it measures the NOx output and if it exceeds a certain value it sends the bad quality alarm. Three things should be done after this; 1 drain the DEF tank and refill with OEM DEF. 2 reset the DEF alarm, 3 remove the injector and clean it with a toothbrush and alcohol. They tend to get gunked up with urea crystals. I hate to say it but the story for you is that you got ripped off by the dealer/mechanic. A new injector is about $250 and takes 10 minutes to swap out. But I doubt it needed that. I’m a long time owner and also an engineer, so I do my own work. I even have a top notch computer for diagnosis etc. better luck next time.!
This was THE best explanation of what was going on with my truck. It’s sad that no one could tell me this at the dealership 🥹 Thank you so much for your detailed explanation 🙏🏽
Having previously done customer service for them, I was always shocked at how people will pay so much money for such old vehicles, with high mileage. The vehicle has a 4 year/50,000 mile warranty, which had already expired via years seeing as it was a 2016. So called luxury vehicles come with really high maintenance costs, that only increase after the manufacturer's warranty has expired. I took so many calls from people like you, who are unaware corporate cannot help. The manufacturer of your vehicle can only essentially help while the vehicle is under their warranty. After that, you are indeed on your own. I am so happy you got a brand new car. God is good and you are so blessed compared to many of the other horror stories I heard about. FYI, dealerships will still buy that faulty car from you with no problem and sell it to someone else. Also, if you can buy a $50,000 used car, you can buy a $50,000 new car. Few luxury vehicles are actually luxury. People need to pay less attention to hype and do their research. Honda and Toyota are still the King because their cars last. They are quality over hype.
My issue is 2 fold. When they say get rid of it what do they mean? Scrap it or pass the problem to someone else who they will give the same “get rid of it” advice? Secondly if they can’t fix it then this is a standards issue. Not sure how it works in the US but trading standards should get involved when registered businesses are selling the public products that are not fit for purpose.
This!! I couldn’t of said it any better in 3 years this vehicle will be 10 years old and at 50k dollars plus maintenance cost it’s definitely NOT worth it.. Range Rovers literally have 90% bad reviews..they look nice THATS it . Before buying any type of car i suggest you read BAD reviews vs listening to people who are just obsessed with car because it’s “luxury”… I’ll take reliability over “luxury” any day
I'm a woman and own an auto repair shop (mechanic and collision)... Those types of vehicles are not the type for you to buy used, much less drive reliably on a regular basis. If you can't afford thousands in repairs on a regular basis, you better learn to fix it yourself like in my case. I'm extremely vigilant of my german cars I drive every day in Los Angeles, and if it weren't for my expertise and my constant due diligence... my cars wouldn't last for shit. Range Rovers are ticking time bombs and yours is no exception.
My parents owned a Land Rover Discovery 2003, the car always broke down and is expensive to maintain but have to admit the riding quality is top notch. My advice is not to buy Range Rover or Land Rover unless you have money to pay the maintenance
There are only 3 kind of people I know who own Range Rovers. 1- People with heck lot of money, who have several cars parked in their garage and they really dont mind sending their RRs for repairs regularly. I have few friends who are big fan boys and dont mind spending money on them, but they can afford to. 2- People who think they are getting a deal on older used ones since their prices implode harder than Ocean Blue Submarine. This particular kind of people are under an illusion that repair costs will come down just because the car costs less. No surprise the repair costs dont come down. These are the kind of people who doesnt know any better, but in their minds they do. 3- People who want to look rich, when they are not. The need to look successful instead of being that is real and a lot of people suffers from it. Hope your ordeal has stopped and you have sold it off. Best of luck.
I got one after test driving one and loved the simplicity inside (already have AMGs) and an amazing ride. Luckily for me I work on all of my cars…. And it wasn’t 3 months before I had to work on the Range Rover. Love them for the most part, just shitty reliability.
@@chrisowen2763 came here to say this. I'll buy a range Rover with 100k miles and it's original timing chains and not blink an eye. But that's because I know I can fix it.
I’m an over the road driver so I deal with DEF systems all year long, and the sad thing is that 98% of the time there is no mechanical issues it’s always software. The National Transportation Safety Board requires auto manufacturers to derate or stop the engine from operating for any reason when pollutants associated with exhaust are out of range with any of the many DEF sensors on a vehicle. The software can sense microscopic changes in emissions and this is why this happens. That engine can run for 10 years there is nothing wrong with that car except highly sensitive emissions software.
So my first luxury car was a jag, but someone immediately crashed into it and totaled it and it wasn’t even worth buying a new one so I went to Honda and Honda has been treating me right but for the longest time I’ve always wanted Range Rover, but I dated this mechanic who told me to NEVER buy a jeep Wrangler, a range or Mercedes. He said that the $$$ fixing is just it’s not it’s not worth the headache in terms of the money if you’re gonna buy, you should just lease a new one and never buy a USED one. my friend has one though and her check engine light has been on since she’s bought that car. She just stopped taking it into the shop because she said she’s over. She said she’ll never buy another one.
DEF fluid is only for Diesel engines and you don't swap or change it like oil ..... DEF fluid gets used up similar to gasoline all you have to do is add more at your local diesel pump its the blue handle pump usually right next to the green diesel pump.
You obviously didn’t understand a single thing she said. Number one her car is diesel. You obviously missed that or can’t comprehend English. 2-The light came on requiring service within certain mileage after which the car couldn’t start. Come on now!!!. Your solution is useless. It may work for ur KIA DIESEL CAR but not in this case
@@debunkys Such an odd comment, considering it's pretty clear you didn't actually read volt's comment correctly. The first part of the comment literally says DEF is only for diesel engines... Anyway, I drive an F250 diesel, and what volt said was basically on the money. DEF is a fluid that is used up, mainly it's used to chemically change nitric monoxide and nitric dioxide (both harmful) in diesel exhaust into carbon dioxide , nitrogen, and water (all relatively harmless). As such the DEF tank in the vehicle runs empty eventually, and when the engine detects that it's low it will warn that it won't turn on at a certain point until more DEF is put in. So without any other context, it seems like this dealership charged $1300 for maybe $30 worth of DEF that she or someone she knew could have added just by driving over to basically any auto parts store. I literally filled my truck's DEF tank a couple weeks back after getting the same error. If she'd added more and the system didn't detect it was added you'd have a point, but as it stands it's shady as hell.
@@debunkys Ironic to tell someone they didn't understand and that they can't comprehend English, when volt started with "DEF fluid is only for Diesel engines..." You apparently saw the word 'gasoline' and completely ignored every other word in that response. Maybe it would be better to compare DEF to washer fluid, in that you use it up, you don't change it out. That was really volt's biggest point there, and maybe saying gasoline wasn't the best comparison. Anyway, I have a 2024 F250 diesel that gets the same message. The first step is to put more DEF in and the message should go away. This is true for all modern diesels, and it's something she should be doing every few months unless she's hardly driving it (short trips at low speeds). This certainly should not result in a $1300 charge from the dealership for them to put in $30 worth of DEF. The point of DEF is to convert harmful compounds in diesel exhaust (nitrogen monoxide and nitrogen dioxide) into relatively harmless compounds (nitrogen, carbon dioxide, and water). When the vehicle determines you're about to run out of DEF it will shut itself down to prevent the operator from using the vehicle. This isn't a problem, they are designed this way to prevent pollution. Later in the video she has an error about poor quality DEF, and this is really common when you have a clogged injector in the exhaust, and gets triggered when a sensor towards the end of the exhaust picks up those harmful compounds. DEF is really just water and urea, and the urea will crystalize when it sits over time. An easy fix for this is to just drive around 70-75 MPH for about 20 miles on the highway, and sometimes that'll clear out the line. Otherwise you can just get under the exhaust, find the line, disconnect it, and clean it out yourself. This whole video is her not understanding how to maintain her vehicle, and then two different mechanics that either don't understand diesel engines, or were actively taking advantage of her.
My daughter bought a used Range Rover. I believe it was about two years old 2018. This car stayed in the shop oil leaks you name it. Finally my daughter said enough is enough she decided to trade it for a new Trailblazer beautiful car hardly any problems.
… it will be giving her problems though. She should buy Japanese. She can beat the hell out of the car and it’ll live, chevys don’t like it if you look at them ugly, they’ll shoot a check engine light at you!
Are you really sure though? I see you new KIA keep drivers racing around thinking your in a range rover sport. Thinking your elevated in seniority or something. ☺️
Diesels are very much unreliable, even the Toyota Landcruiser VX which is a V8 engine has nightmares with clogging injectors among other issues, so does the Mazda CX5 diesel. Get a gasoline powered car and half the unreliability will be gone! I have a Range Rover Autobiography SV with 96K miles and it runs beautifully with no issues at all. Also, you should watch LR time channel, they service and fix their Land Rovers in person and they have demonstrated over and over again that the dealerships don't really know what they are doing for the most part and at one time, got quoted 2,800 euros to fix a problem that required zero dollars to fix, no tools, and would be fixed in less than 30 seconds, now think about that!
This is the thing with Range Rovers, they feel great to sit inside them and to look at them but the issues are never ending. I went to test drive a defender - beautiful car, handled great - i was ready to order one but when I finished the 40 min test drive it broke. Aparently the engine broke so I took it as a blessing and never looked at another RR since.
Comedy of errors. I’ve owned Land Rovers for 25 years. I currently have a 2017 D5 with the TD6. DEF is common to all modern diesels. If the vehicle hasn’t been driven for awhile the DEF can crystallize in the tank or clog the injector. Both are an easy fix. You clean them off. The dealer and service tech didn’t know what they were doing. All they had to do was follow a simple diagnostic procedure on topix to identify the sensor or wire fault. Not sure what was changed for $1300. Any sensor can be purchased from LR Direct and they come straight from the UK by DHL in a couple days. $450 for an oil change is a crime. You can get factory recommended oil and filter from Atlantic British for around $100. If you don’t do the service yourself, you should be able to have any shop change the oil with your oil for $50 or less. For any luxury brand there are indy or independent repair shops that are usually run by factory trained techs. Indy shops are often cheaper and offer higher level diagnostic services than dealerships. Dealerships tend to just change expensive parts without doing true diagnostic work. I’ve been in the Army for 30 years. I can’t recall using DEF in our vehicles. LR vehicles are used here in Colorado because they are unstoppable on mountain passes and snow.
My velar has been phenomenal and honestly most services can be diy on them. Even code resets are easy. Air suspension and the car literally off roads better than my truck
Great video and a cautionary tale for everyone that thinks buying a USED RR is a flex. It is not! If you’ve gotta have one, lease one brand new, or pay the price! I tell people to ALWAYS go with Lexus/Toyota if not Acura/Honda if you want a foreign.
I own a 2015 full size Range Rover HSE and I truly love mine. However, when the day comes to part ways I’m ready. Don’t need the headaches. Lol Great story btw.
I have 2013 L405 3 litre Diesel now 119000Kilometres, regularly service correctly, no issues. Perhaps because I am a British retired motor engineer in New Zealand i have avoided issues. The electronics of modern cars cause the problems, especially items like this DEL you have which we dont have to. Sorry this lady did not find the best engineers usually in the small specialised places,
So sorry that happened to you, you seem so genuine. I am highly attracted to luxury vehicles as well. I’ve had the same model as you non diesel though and now I have a Jaguar which is rumored to not have the best reliability as well. What I’ve learned is to either lease or purchase them certified pre owned which extends the factory warranty. If you ever decide to get another one because they are beautiful vehicles I recommend shopping at a Range Rover dealer and look at certified pre owned you get better warranty and more affordable pricing.
Long story: I had something similar happen to me when buying my car. Went to carmax and purchased a 2014 Audi q5. The car was below mileage for the year PLUS I was in the market for a compact suv and fell in love with this one. Went in, test drove the car (ran like butter. Had that new car smell)and was already pre approved so the purchase went smoothly. About 3-5 days later my oil light came on out of nowhere. Luckily carmax has that 30 day return policy so I utilized that. Called carmax and they told me my system might have to be reset and of course it was much worse. According to them, the pipe that gave my car its turbo boost was cracked and leaking. They let me know they could fix it and I’d have it back in a week or so. A week goes by and the new part they bought was leaking worse than the original part. I was told it would take another week for them to order and install a brand new piece(I was driving a loaner car at this point). A week goes by and I get no phone call to update me on the condition of my car so i took the initiative and called them first. I was redirected to the folks that have been helping me this whole time and was told AGAIN that it would take another week bc they couldn’t find a new piece for my car. At this point we’re at the beginning of week 4. I had the car for 3 days….(rmbr carmax has a 30 day return policy) Carmax ended up having my car for the entire month. I called them for the last time and told them to stop any work that they were doing on the car and that I’d like to speak with the service manager face to face. Ended up speaking with the guy and he let me know that the service area was swamped and that they have the new piece for the car and It would be ready tmr morning. Before this meeting I found out carmax puts aftermarket parts on ALL their cars and that worried me bc this was a German made car. He reassured that everything would be fine and that they do this all the time but if I felt uncomfortable, I could look into their maxcare program if I wanted to get the car repaired by Audi themselves. The downfall of that meant I’d have to sell the car back to carmax, add on an additional $4000 and buy it back. I put all my faith into this last repair, got the call and got excited. Received my keys, turned my car on and was distraught. Not only did my ac come out really slow but the car was now smoking.. a lot. Drove it right up to the service area and the guy let me know that bc the second piece leaked so bad, there was excess oil left in the pipe and that it would take about 3 days to really burn off. Accepted that excuse and drove the car home. At that point I didn’t feel comfortable with the car anymore. Gave the car another 3 days (all I had left of the 30 day return policy) and immediately gave the car back. The car was not just smoking at this point, it wasn’t just having ac problems but now the engine was revving itself while in park which caused the lights inside to flicker. also when you turn the car off it was STILL smoking like.. engulfing the entire back side of the car type of smoke. Will NEVER buy a car luxury or not from carmax EVER again.
Incredible story. I've owned a Range Rover for the last 8 years. Excellent vehicles until you have to get repairs. They never really can pinpoint what's wrong. I'm dealing with a faulty transmission code now. Beautiful cars but not reliable.
You will be broke if you take all your foreign cars to the dealership for maintenance as opposed to a independent mechanic these cars are engineered to break down ,dealerships make 75 to 80% of their profits from parts and service
No. Taking ur car into the dealerships is more practical bc a lot of contingencies of vehicle manufacturers engine failures and other mechanical/technical problems can only be replaced if there’s record of it being maintenance at certified dealership. That happened with Kia. They denied millions of people a replacement engine bc they claimed the engine failed due to lack of oil changes. Then when you produce evidence you got it serviced on time everytime at like day, a juffyluve or valvoline, they deny ur claim bc it wasn’t serviced at THEIR Kia dealerships! This happens far too often. So better to just take it to dealership to avoid any discrepancies or denials. They find any reason to weasel out of paying for their shxt mistakes
I had a 2017 HSE supercharged one and another 2018 regular HSE - no warranty. My average monthly repair was $3,000. After 2 years I had enough and bought a Escalade esv and a corvette. Only American made where I can find parts locally from now on for me
I'm sorry you went through that. I'm doing a ton of research on the Range Rover sport and most of the issues with them are associated with the diesel engines. Any other complaints have to do with people just not wanting to spend luxury car prices for regular maintenance or sensors bugging out after accidents which can happen in any car, but it's most likely to happen in a Land Rover product. Wish me luck 😬 lol
What a story. Sometimes we falsely believe that the more the vehicle cost the better it is. Not so. I read a comment from the guy on a video of this guy throwing a rod with his Ferrari showing off. The guy said supercars are too delicate for the price you pay for them. You can say that for many luxury cars also. I've never owned a luxury car because living in Atlanta (a status town) I've had many friends who have. I was appalled at the high maintenance costs on these vehicles, plus the high labor costs. I was a Honda, Toyota and Mazda man (I had four) before I bought this used 2020 Kia Soul S in 2022. I love it. But I also love the reliability of the Honda, Mazda and Toyota. All of my friends who had bought those luxury cars - got rid of them for something more dependable. Young people don't get caught in the trap of status buying.
Never forget that a leased vehicle is an ex rental and rentals are always abused. Good work on buying a brand new car, I myself was taught the same lesson by a Pre owned BMW which was gonna need a new engine on top of the 10 repairs it had already cost me within 12 months, so I replaced the trash with a brand new Japanese Pick Up and never looked back. What you went through ruins people's life savings and you've learned the lesson in your youth so be glad. Next time you wanna splurge on a luxury car, make sure it's on the same terms as your Mazda or at the very most a car in it's first year of life. Stay fresh and screw Land/Range Rover products.
Great story, the RR are so beautiful and the drive make you feel like you’re on the top of the world, but a used one is not recommended. You gotta lease these suckers and give it back after so, that way you don’t pay a penny for it
I have a used one I don’t get crazy isssues, there’s a difference between the maintenance to issues , honestly it’s hit or miss that why you need to learn about your car before you just buy it because it’s a Range Rover.
I love a change, I bet I would have been able to isolate the problem pretty quickly. I do all of the maintenace for both my wife and my car. The dealer and independent shops seem to be subpar at diagnosing problematic issues. I have saved a ton of money over the years by doing my own maintence and it has allowed us to our cars longer than than most because all maintenance is done in house by me.
Wow! I too love Range Rovers, but their reliability concerns have always kept me away from them. I've heard many similar stories just like yours. I would love to see your story go viral; I think Land Rover/Range Rovers lack of commitment to their customers should encourage even the rich to stop buying them.
As someone who wrenches on their own car, $400 for an oil changes and some fluid is insane. I spend $70 on an oil change. And that's because my car takes 6 quarts and i buy expensive synthetic oil.
Range Rovers are like a lot of modern women: aesthetically pleasing but emotionally and financially draining with very limited future upside or advantage over a Mazda
I definitely understand we’re you’re coming from I own a Mercedes Benz and yes service is expensive and it ranges from $600-$1300 every time you go in for service however it’s only required 1 time per year or 10,000 miles whichever comes first. Have you considered leasing ? How much do you drive in a year ?
I’m so sorry you went through that. I had a similar experience with my Mustang when it reached 100,000 miles. I will never buy a American made car ever again. I thought about purchasing a used Range Rover.. but after your story I will think twice. It’s such a beautiful car. Thanks for sharing!!
American made cars may not be great but the maintenance is lower. They are cheaper to fix. Never buy RR out of warranty. They are super expensive to fix and maintain. You are better off with a Honda or Toyota. Best cars around and cheaper to maintain.
it was an eco boost 4 cylinder wasn’t it. if you get anything american make sure its a v8 engine america makes great v8s that last forever. that rule is the exact opposite for foreign cars.
Why after her story? Do mean to tell me you haven't enquired about Range Rover until this episode? The internet is crowded with horror stories re JLR products. Surely in this modern age a person goes immediately to internet forums to find out before committing.
My wife wanted a LR. I wasn't buying a Range Rover. So we went with the discovery sport. Two years later, we have four error codes. The dealership cost close to 7K. I'm done with RR. I did some research of the brand. They're at the bottom of the list when it comes to reliability. Honda here I come.
@@smx3798 Luxury car does not and MUST NOT mean unreliable. There is a difference between having to pay 15k for a new engine at 70k miles cause the engine is badly engineered and the FAP is set wrongly and cannot regenerate or cause you have a coolant leak INTO the engine that makes it blow up and having the same problems at 300k miles. Luxury can mean having to spend 7k for a repair but cannot and MUST NOT mean having to to it before 100k miles. Luxury should also mean quality. JaguarLandRover is a disaster, there is no luxury in being stranded on the highway.
@@adalgisounoqualunque9033 Literally every luxury brand is low on reliability because they all have new tech. Real luxury brands, not Toyotas and Hondas with nicer interior.
@@OtisFlint instead of that evoque i bought a gla that is now close to 200k km and 10 years and has gone as smorì as silk and that every time that the belt needs a changing does not require to pull out the entire engine. NO ONE without mechanical skills should ever consider any used European car. I fixed cars myself and got fed up with BMW, land Rover, Audi blues... There's a reason these cars are so inexpensive when used.. They depreciate soon as the warranty has expired. I would suggest getting new car under warranty if you have no skills and you need a reliable car. Used Japanese cars can be safe purchases.. always research the car before you buy it. Get a report on the car life history and try to contact the previous owner. This can be embarrassing and rude to some people but it's worth a shot.
I have a Range Rover Velar 2022 and I love my truck. Your first Mistake was purchasing a Used Range Rover and Purchasing from Carmax. What I did was I purchased my truck from the Land Rover dealership brand new with a 1.9% interest rate with a 100,000 mile warranty and 8 oil changes included in my purchase.
She didn’t buy it from Carmax. She wanted to sell it to Carmax. She said she bout it from a “fake luxury car dealer” Basically those 2nd 3rd owner dealerships on the side of in town highways that have plenty of BMWs and Benzes
@@soILLitsADVISED clearly from the thumbnail posted her she got her car from carmax, car has a yellow bow on it and is in a carmax garage! Pay attention.
This is what you call trying to flex with problems…Been there done that..learn from your lesson and just live life with the ability of getting from point A to point B with no issues.
I had a horror story with a 2020 Nissan that I bought brand new. Eventually, I was able to get them to buy the car back after it was all over the Lord blessed me with a 2021 Mazda 3 it’s really a good car! Congratulations
I got many people to realize, "Anyone can purchase a luxurious vehicle, not everyone can KEEP a luxurious vehicle". Buying used is a big NO unless you can service and repair it yourself.
Wow..I own a Mazda and was thinking of purchasing a range..I am not doing that now. Thanks so much for sharing your story Sis. Glad you got out that wip.
I have a Range Rover, it’s amazing to me how many times I’ve had to disconnect the battery cables, let it sit disconnected for an hour and reconnect to clear fault codes so systems would operate properly. I also own an old 2007 Lexus es350 that’s like a nice pair of jeans and it’s at 189,000 miles with no issues other than normal wear maintenance. Your a military girl, nothing should bring you to tears.
Interesting car story. My crown Vics fuel pump went after 14 years ownership and mechanic said with the rust underneath it wouldn’t pass inspection again. The car was 24 years old and had 151k miles on it. I had been hoping to get 200+ miles on it but didn’t so now I take Uber to get somewhere.
The def system is a complete scam. I’m in the trucking industry and spent over 20k on the def system. Most people delete them and their diesel runs fine.
they hosed her for a couple quarts of DEF. a new DEF filter can run upwards of $4k on a 4 wheeler, depending on the car. i changed one on my sisters Bluetec, wasn’t that complicated.
When they replaced the module, did they flush the DEF system? That’s most likely all it needed. My dad had the same light come on, and we flushed the system and it went out after driving for 100 miles and hasn’t come on since
I drive a 2011 LS460L, and the second owner and purchased it at 40000 miles. It now has 110,000 miles and I have never had not one issue with it. I changed the oil regularly fluids checked and I've only ever had to replace the brakes and tires
Land rover dealerships always ask too much for repairs. Find a reliable local shop. I locally found one close to home. Dealership qouted me $4500 or so to change the brake pds and rotors on all 4 axle... Had my local shop done it for $300 plus taxes. I bought my own parts hehe bremboo rotors with bosch quietcast (front) and akebonos (rear)
They did. She didn’t listen. So her answer is to give it back to the bank and will pay 10x in costs. Then complain about the bank. It all started when she put cheap def fluid in. If she hasn’t done that none of this would’ve happened. Is like the ecoboost issues she fired when they went to jiffy lube not ford to ice the right oil. Same thing. Cheap Def brings down jeep diesels too
It's such a shame because it looked like a really nice example as well but , yes, they can be a nightmare and the scary thing is that the dealerships don't know how to fix them. Hope the Mazda is treating you well though 🙏
I feel bad for you . They all drained your wallet for no reason. You were dealing with dealers and mechanics that are not diesel experts. This was a simple cheap fix. You have 1 DEF injector on that TD6. It sprays directly into the exhaust. You can lay on the ground and remove it yourself from the exhaust. Take it out and clean it and remove the uretha crystals yourself. Reset the code with an OBD scan tool, and the message will change. Then the message will clear after driving a few miles. As long as you clean the injector once a year, it will never come back. Americans should not be afraid of diesels, 1/2 the cars around the world are, you just have to have experience with them.

This was a traumatic event for you that caused a change in personality. Thats a blessing and a good thing ! It’s worth the lost of money you’ll face with this situation. In the beginning you were happy to buy the USED Range Rover because you could look cool in a “nice car “ , But AFTER the problem you were super happy you didn’t have to buy used and was happy with the humble Mazda. Tbh I like the Mazda better anyway,
I have a 2016 sport. Ppl ask me all the time what year it is and how good it looks and how they are thinking about getting one. “WAIT!! HOLD ON, THAT AINT WHAT YOU WANT TO DO!!” Thats what my typical response be. Its like a natural reflex.
Ofc. A lot of Americans thinking they can look rich by buying used 11 year old luxury cars😂 too broke to buy new, but want to fake flex of “making it” nobody buys that any of yall are rich. We can tell who got money, and who’s behind on their payments trying to keep up with a used broken down luxury car😂
Once I stumbled upon this video I had to watch it! I had a similar luxurious vehicle and was a total nightmare week after week month after month and I finally decided to get rid of it lost over 50% of the original price, and so I ended up buying a Chevy traverse yup , for a fraction of the cost which now I have put on about 100,000 miles, and I only did, regular oil changes! 🙏🙏
In summary, a repo on ur credit represents to most lenders that u couldn't afford the payments. Some lenders may call and ask what happened but this is very damaging and can haunt u for years. Please avoid doing this if u can at all costs
Yeah, I didn't get that. Why not just do the repair then trade it in. She likely would have had $10k in negative equity. Now she's going to likely show dbl that or more on her credit and the bank is still going to want their money.
So in 2020 my wife and I purchased a 2011 Cadillac SRX 2.8T Performance Edition ywith only 18,280 miles on it. Only one person owned it and it was an older lady. The day we drove off the lot it’s been nothing but trouble. On the way home from the lot my wife was following me back to the house when she rear ended me at a stoplight causing over $6,500 in repairs. Then the sunroof leaked twice and blew out the electronics to the rear lift gate. The power windows stopped working, the front suspension and sway bars had to be replaced, the tire pressure sensors went out on all but 1 tire. The navigation screen wouldn’t go down when the driver door was opened. The rear actuators failed for the lift gate and the washer fluid tank cracked and had to be replaced to pass inspection and then this past Christmas….the timing chain had to be replaced! That was a $4,500 repair right at Christmas time. I’ve spent so much money on that thing that I feel like every time I start it something goes wrong with it. My dad always told me that paying the monthly payment on a Cadillac isn’t the problem; it’s fixing it when things start failing on it. I’ve probably spent well over $11K of my own money on repairs after the 2 year warranty ran out. Because of its age Cadillac wouldn’t offer more than a 2 year bumper to bumper warranty. My wife had actually picked out a Range Rover we really liked but I’ve always heard since I was a kid that a Range Rover is a hole in which you throw money into. Now I know Cadillac is like that as well!
Sorry for what you had to go through. One should research on the reliability of a car before purchase, the info is widely available on the internet. Jaguar Land Rover has the worst Reliability reputation of any car manufacturer. Land Rover executives admitted this recently and promised to fix it going forward. But most motor industry analysts expect no change. In your case, they knowingly sold you junk. Get a lawyer and make them pay.
Had an older Rover bought almost new years ago. Same POS, they drive awesome when they run. Otherwise everything broke, latches, door knobs rear deck latches. Non stop repairs
Sorry to hear about your car issues. Like others have said, you lease a new luxury car, not buy a used one. I own a BMW, but it is an M car I use for fun and not a daily driver.
I have always loved the way Land Rover and Range Rovers look and how luxurious they are. I have not been brave enough to purchase one due to the low reliability. They have always been polished turds. They depreciate a lot because of how expensive they are to keep running.
Range Rovers are expensive Fords, just like Maserati's are expensive Chryslers. German cars are always worth the cost because even though it can be expensive at repair (if ever needed), they are so so so reliable. I bought a Mercedes Benz with 60,000 miles, drove for about 2 years before needing anything major, and at 200,000 miles, even though there were no issues, I traded, got more than what I paid for the car, and upgraded.
I would say this is experience based. I will never own another Audi. So far the most reliable cars I owned are Mercedes E550 and Jaguar XFR. I do have a RRSSC and love it.
@@rodneyalexander6775 most reliable car I've ever owned was a 97 Honda Accord I purchased brand new. I sold it in 2019. I'm only buying Honda from here on out. Will never listen to my wife again when it comes to buying a car.
Omg! I had a different issue with my Range Rover Evoque but it was still the same headache and stress you had. I bought it from a fake luxury dealership and on my way home the check engine light came on. I went back n forth with the dealership and they never found what was wrong. I eventually took it to RR and it was the catalytic converter. They wanted $3400 to fix it. By the grace of GOD!!!! The check engine light went off and I sold it to Carmax! I was so happy to get that damn lemon off my hands. It's so crazy bc one day I was at a stop light and a complete stranger rolled down his window and asked if i liked my RR. I said yes for the most part. He looked at me and I was like, should I not? He was like do your research on it. The light turned green and he drove away. I was like 😳. That made me realize RR ain't really all that. Im sad you did the voluntary repo bc of the negative hit to your credit. I would've just tried to resell after the light went off but i understand it's all about timing. I'm so happy you got a new car and your done with dumb RR lol i learned to do research on the type of car and company before buying
Range rover is nothing more than a flex. They are WORLD RENOWNED for being unreliable 😂
It's made to be reliable for only 50k-60k miles. That's because it's a tax write off vehicle for business owners to put money back into the economy. It's not a Honda, Lexus,Toyota.
As a former salesman, luxury vehicles are better leased as opposed to buying!

I definitely appreciate you for this!! Wish I would have known this, but thank God he worked it all out 🥰
My issue is 2 fold.
Before buying any type of car i suggest you read BAD reviews vs listening to people who are just obsessed with car because it’s “luxury”… I’ll take reliability over “luxury” any day
Certain cars should just be leased , 3 yrs switch out let the dealership deal with any headache that may pop up
I only buy pre-owned certified luxury vehicles. And when the warranty runs out I buy an extended warranty or sell the car.
I bet dealerships love seeing you walk in...right up until the time you let them know you're a mechanic.

How do they pass inspection because i live in Jersey and the DMV will fail you with a check engine light on🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️
DEF fluid is only for Diesel engines and you don't swap or change it like oil .....

You LEARNED a VALUABLE lesson high price doesn't mean QUALITY
I’ve been warning people about RR since the 90’s! Most listened, the others wished they did.
Td6 is feasible in Midwest winters?engine reliability past 85k miles will it last to 200k miles?
It will last half a million miles if you know how to take care of it. This was a bad diesel experience from an inexperienced diesel owner.
My velar has been phenomenal and honestly most services can be diy on them. Even code resets are easy. Air suspension and the car literally off roads better than my truck

So sorry that happened to you, you seem so genuine. I am highly attracted to luxury vehicles as well. If you ever decide to get another one because they are beautiful vehicles I recommend shopping at a Range Rover dealer and look at certified pre owned you get better warranty and more affordable pricing.
Long story:
I had something similar happen to me when buying my car.
That gen of Q5 was extremely bad, the new Q5 2018+ IS GOOD
Financing a $50k loan for a 2016? 😮
Instead of getting a brand new vehicle for that amount with zero miles on it 😮😮😮
That was the red flag to me. Could have bought a brand new car for that. You live and learn to do better!
Incredible story. I've owned a Range Rover for the last 8 years. Excellent vehicles until you have to get repairs. They never really can pinpoint what's wrong. I'm dealing with a faulty transmission code now. Beautiful cars but not reliable.
once again down to staff not knowing their job
Do you ever have a oil leak problem
Any vehicle us excellent until it needs fixing. It's how many times it needs fixing and hiw.luch you spend to fix it that's the real questions.
@@TheIronChainMasternot Toyota though
But that’s a long time
So sorry for everything you went through. 😞 A small yet significant blip in the annals of history. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much for sharing. I have completely changed my mindset . Amazing video!
Only American made where I can find parts locally from now on for me
Those Escalade are junk too. Didn’t you do your homework?
No way you spent $72k over 2 years on repair
Probably meant yearly
Young people don't get caught in the trap of status buying.
or just buy a lexus
So true I wasted so much money on cars I could have opened a big shop or some other business
There's a reason Land Rover resale value is GARBAGE
As someone who wrenches on their own car, $400 for an oil changes and some fluid is insane.
I spend $70 on an oil change.
And that's because my car takes 6 quarts and i buy expensive synthetic oil.
I thought $70 was expensive for my Subaru Outback oils change. I can't even imagine paying $400!
Range Rovers are like a lot of modern women: aesthetically pleasing but emotionally and financially draining with very limited future upside or advantage over a Mazda

Thank You for sharing your experience with Range Rover, I will definitely do my research now before I get one.
No she didn’t say it had a new car smell. There’s a car freshener that smells like a new car. Oh my…she needed a man in her life at this time.
You thought the mustang was bad and your over there thinking that a used range rover would be any better???! 😂🤣
If you can't afford a luxury car and the expected cost if repair don't buy one.
@@smx3798 If I couldn't afford it I wouldn't buy it. But two years in and already a 7K repair. It's covered, but it's not a good sign.
The simple fact that ingenium engines require being pulled out to change the chain is baffling to me.
How much was it?
She didn’t buy it from Carmax. She wanted to sell it to Carmax. She said she bout it from a “fake luxury car dealer” Basically those 2nd 3rd owner dealerships on the side of in town highways that have plenty of BMWs and Benzes
@@soILLitsADVISED clearly from the thumbnail posted her she got her car from carmax, car has a yellow bow on it and is in a carmax garage! Pay attention.

I got many people to realize, "Anyone can purchase a luxurious vehicle, not everyone can KEEP a luxurious vehicle".
Buying used is a big NO unless you can service and repair it yourself.
Thank you for your story I totally feel for you because I love Range Rovers too and this really made me think twice about getting a new one
Wow..I own a Mazda and was thinking of purchasing a range..I am not doing that now. Thanks so much for sharing your story Sis. Glad you got out that wip.
You are so welcome 🙏🏽
Never buy a luxury vehicle used from carmax thats for sure.
Carmax just trash, never ever, buy a car from them again..
Electric cars are also a scam. Do the research and you’ll see
When they replaced the module, did they flush the DEF system? That’s most likely all it needed. My dad had the same light come on, and we flushed the system and it went out after driving for 100 miles and hasn’t come on since
I drive a 2011 LS460L, and the second owner and purchased it at 40000 miles. It now has 110,000 miles and I have never had not one issue with it. I changed the oil regularly fluids checked and I've only ever had to replace the brakes and tires
The Range Rover mechanics should have helped you better.
They should have told you the solution was to just buy a Lexus.
😂
Actually they should’ve drained and refilled the DEF tank, reset the alarm and cleaned the injector. Probably would’ve taken 1 hour max. So $300?
Same thing. Cheap Def brings down jeep diesels too
@@scottiswatchingtele that pretty much summarized her long video. Thank you

Americans should not be afraid of diesels, 1/2 the cars around the world are,
you just have to have experience with them.
Yup she needed a mechanic who specializes in this.
Damn. :(
All that trouble for a part the could have been easily replaced.
Yep, this was an easy fix but as a jaguar f pace owner with the third 3k+ repair in a year they are incompetent at jlr. Very bad service techs
So candid so transparent about her dilemma
Oh wow so sorry that happens to you. I was looking at a 2020 Velar but, after listening to your story I changed my mind.
These are the experiences with the diesel engines not with the regular Range Rover sport models. Do your research

$50k for a 6 year old Range Rover is crazy 🤯
Did the battery die in the RR? How long did you have it before it died?
This bad decision could have been avoided with the advice of a man…husband, father, brother, etc.
What is a DEF change ?.DEF fluid is filled up along side diesel fuel in a separate take.
Wait till she finds out the earth aint flat
Old wise man saying when buying a Range Rover or Jaguar ; Do not drive so far with these vehicles that you can walk back home”
Sorry to hear about your car issues. Like others have said, you lease a new luxury car, not buy a used one. I own a BMW, but it is an M car I use for fun and not a daily driver.
2 types who buy Range Rover…
-BALLERS
-PEOPLE WHO THINK THEY BALLERS.
Which one are you miss thang?
I have always loved the way Land Rover and Range Rovers look and how luxurious they are. I have not been brave enough to purchase one due to the low reliability. They have always been polished turds. They depreciate a lot because of how expensive they are to keep running.
I would suggest buying a Lexus GX or LX series for that kind of money.
RX would be more comparable. Even the NX- that’s what I have and I love it
Can we get a part 2 on if u still have the car did u sell it is the light still on
Range Rovers are expensive Fords, just like Maserati's are expensive Chryslers.
European cars are thee least reliable cars on the planet. Honda and Toyota are it!

If it gets voluntarily surrendered for ongoing issues like this, does the bank still hit your credit in the same way?
