    Just to correct a few points.
    The range of cars currently Evoque -> Discovery Sport -> Velar -> Range Rover Sport -> Discovery -> Defender (90+110 (80 + 130 Tba) -> Range Rover (Vogue/50/Westminster/Autobiography) -> LWB Long wheel base version.
    Evoque + Velar LWB coming soon
    Fittings.
    Base model, known as “pure’ or in the case of RR Sport ‘limited’, or to really confuse you, on Defender ‘Standard’ which is not to be confused with Defender S which means (and yes you will read this correctly) :-
    S -> Standard
    SEv-> Standard Equipped
    HSE -> High Standard Equipped.
    Pxxx -> X designates horsepower with a P standing for Petrol Engine
    Dxxx -> ditto bur D is Diesel
    Pxxx e -> Petrol Xxx horsepower but plug in hybrid, and the xxx is electric + petrol output combined.
    Small note, the S, SE, HSE badge denotes how the car was fitted as default option packs, the higher the factory spec, the more up the S / SE / HSE path you go but.. most options can and are sold separately, so you can on occasion find a P400 S fitted out better than a P400 HSE,
    All models now except the Discovery and Defender 90 are now available as plug in Hybrid.(2021 M/y)
    All cars break, If this car is 2016 then it was the 2016 model year and probably assembled 2015 or even 2014.
    Turnstyle gearshifter now replaced back to as this is, surprised me when i saw this tbh.

    Pro tip: Switch to waterless coolant on these cars. Too much plastic in the cooling system, and they run at a really high pressure (20psi) that blows apart the plastic and blows out the water pump seals. With waterless coolant, the cooling system stays at close to 0 PSI at all times, even in 100degF weather. When the coolant plastic splits and drops all the coolant on the floor, the engine instantly warps a head and/or drops valve seats.

    Video @ 14:57 "can it be bypassed?" - Yes they can ! - I own a 1999 Range Rover HSE (P38) - I LOVE my RR and I still have my OEM Air-Suspension ! - Actually, the airbags are VERY hearty. A leak is typically at the point of the topside hose connection to the bags ('O' ring seals become age **hardened). So if there's a large & ignored leak, the Air-Compressor typically becomes overworked and overheats too many times; this is the main reason that a catastrophic & expensive failure occurs. - When my RR began to show signs of leaking (the computer BEGAN to turn my RR into a Low-Rider), I installed a ***great kit that allows you to HELP the compressor out by filling the airbags up for that first highest volume start-up of the system (Pull the relay that controls the computer, then fill via the 4 bicycle tire valves). Then once you begin to drive around, the seals hold nicely so the air compressor just turns on when needed. In cold weather, the seals leak more, but during hot weather the air leaking issue halts. Doing it this way you can still 'economically' enjoy the MANY advantages of a functioning air suspension...
    ** I sprayed "Meguiar's NXT Tech Protect" protectant where the inlet hose enters the airbags.
    This allows the protectant to migrate to the rubber 'O' rings, somewhat rejuvenating them...

    Water pump "failures" seem to be common on Land Rovers and Jaguars. The pump rotor itself doesn't fail. Failure is in the seals. Modern coolant seals are leakproof - except with Land Rovers and Jaguars. What I do is to replace the coolant with Evans Waterless Coolant, which operates with zero pressure because it has a very high boiling point. Thus the oem seals are not stressed and ends.

      Switch to waterless coolant, and no more pump seal failures. Why? Because waterless coolant runs at almost 0 psi, so you don't have up to 20 psi trying to push the seals out. The RR coolant reservoir caps are rated to 20 psi, and that's an incredible amount of pressure.

    Long time ago my mechanic tried to replace hydro-prenu shocks on w140 600sel with classical, and that was total disaster, car was leaning to back and side, plus pump was whining, so since that lesson learn, and no more "smart ass" experiments.

    What surprises me is how expensive these air suspension systems are for so many cars. My Ford Crown Victoria LX has air suspension (only in the rear) and auto-leveling system. A couple of years ago, the bags were rotted out and leaked. I had my mechanic replace both of them for $600 with Arnott airbags, which was the most expensive option. Compression is a little loud for 10 seconds when you start the car, but the thing still rides like a dream. For $600, I will replace it every 130,000 miles.
    I am not a very technical person. Can anyone explain to me why a Crown Victoria air suspension system is so much cheaper to fix than that of a Range Rover? Don't they use brands like Arnott or Firestone as well? I understand you only need to replace two in my case, but still ... you'd be done for $1200, not $5000, if you had the system on all four wheels. I don't get it ...

    Now then a V6 petrol in a Range Rover, we don't get those in the UK. The only thing we got the 380 V6 in was the F type, and they've just dropped that, 4 cylinder or V8 only now.
    Almost all Range Rover Sports here are diesels with just a handful of supercharged V8 petrols.

      Range Rovers are the kind of cars you always look back at and smile while parking and walking away from your car.
      No car is perfect, and people are willing to deal with reliability issues with these if it means enjoying everything else these Range Rovers offer.
      No need to belittle RR owners; it just makes you look bitter that you can't afford one.

      @@Jowurel Interesting how you assume I can't afford one just because I'm bashing it. If that were the case then I would be bashing all luxury brands but I'm not. Not that I need to prove anything to you but I can certainly afford a Land Rover product. I guess I have a different definition of what luxury is. To me a very important part of luxury is not having to worry about when and where it's going to break down or what warning light will come on next. I have owned other luxury brands that are just as comfortable to drive and good to look at. But you do you. You're right, not car is perfect but some are more perfect than others.

    When I was shopping for a new car recently, a guy pulled up in a beautiful Range Rover asking for half it's value in trade-in.
    After a quick no and some grouchy words by the Range Rover owner, the lot's owner/salesman said, "The parking spot it will occupy is worth more than it is. I could sell five cars with that spot before some new fool like you comes along and gambles his retirement on vanity."

    from Fraser, husband of Leslie
    I had two Jaguar XJs that had air suspension, the first one, a 2003, needed a service exchange air compressor, but nothing else. The second one needed nothing done to the air suspension. The really BIG problem with air struts is the air diaphragm fails at a much lower mileage than the shock, but the manufacturers always want to sell you a new strut for hundreds of pounds whereas a diaphragm replacement is possible at far less cost. There are firms that replace these diaphragms and check the unit over, but one can never tell which ones do the job right and which don't. That is the problem. Lets face it, if a coil spring breaks, you don't throw away the whole strut if the rest is good, It's just stupid, but that's what the makers want you to do !

      I miss my L322 dearly. I had a 2009 TDV8 Vogue SE, and to this day nothing I've ever owned felt as good or as comfortable to drive. It wasn't *too* bad on cost, I got 40 MPG, I had to spend about £3k on maintenance in total, and £580 a year on road tax. For certain there are cheaper to run car out there, but none of them measure up to a Range Rover, I'd buy it back in a heartbeat.

    Car Wizzard might be... probably is a good technician in other aspects - not so much on air suspension. What he says - replacing all components at some certain mileage (150 000 miles) could fit the big dealer shops where they don't really care about financial damage they do to the customer. Based on what I've seen on the channel, Car Wizzard is able to find alternative solutions which are cheaper, which work the same or better, without the philosophy of "get this thing outta here no matter cost". I've been driving an audi allroad for 5 years now, and I don't like taking my cars to a shop at all. I've been servicing and repairing the air suspension system cheaply, without going in and necesserily changing any expensive components, just by changing small things that actually go bad INSIDE the components. These are: piston ring inside the WABCO compressor, small rubber o-rings for the entire system, incoming air filter and deseccant, maybe cleaning inside the electric motor from the carbon brush material. One bigger item I had to change, due to my own fault, was the electric/pneumatic distribution block the small lines to corners and receiver come out of - because I was dumb enough in the beginning to wash the said block with acetone, which killed it. Now I have 3-4 used good blocks sitting at home, waiting for the one on the car to go bad. Also - wrap the lines with some abrasion resistant tape or compound as the way at least audi places them may subject them to road grime and being torn/abraded. Needless to say - the car can sit for weeks without losing the suspension height, which is amazing, considering it is 13 years old. I would never change to standard shocks and springs as the way the car handles road is superb. By the way - all these systems on Volvos, Mercs, BMWs, LR products, VAG products are more or less the same, with simply added funcionality on newer models.

    Just bought one, '16 Sport HSE with TD6. Amazed at this thing. Coming from a Ram 2500 w/ Cummins, this thing is going to take a bit to get used to, but the power, comfort, and mpg is amazing. Got 32 mpg, hand calc'd , on a trip back. Air suspension if sooooooo smooth.
    Wizard, you have any feedback on the TD6 engine? They're not as common as the gasser.

      How's your td6 holding up? In the market for a RRS and split between the SC6 and td6. The diesel drives a bit better but emissions equipment is a deal breaker.

    • @user-ym9wb2mk5e
      @user-ym9wb2mk5e 9 месяцев назад

      I think the biggest things on the TD6 model is making sure the fuel filters are changed out regularly and using the right spec oil. Wheel bearings and axles are about $100 and are a hit n miss. I may be changing one soon on the front drivers side, Rock Auto sells them, bearing is about $50. Those go out on other cars, so overall, I’d buy another one in a heart beat. I already had high end scanner tools, so doing my own resets and maintenance are what helps. If someone isn’t mech inclined, it can cost money to repair or maintain, mainly due to dealership labor and parts markup. Brembo brake parts are cheap too, did all 4 on each one and pretty simple. They do need timing belt changes, but it’s pretty simple, kit cost 150$ and takes a few hours.

    • @user-ym9wb2mk5e
      @user-ym9wb2mk5e 9 месяцев назад

      The engine is supposedly a joint venture between Ford and Puegot industrial. Most parts have LR or Ford stamped in them. I’d like to see a delete kit, since the intake can get pretty gummed up, but that’s about a 100k mile cleanup and takes a few hours.
