I allways immagined the dilgar were so effective bc no major power oposed them. Vorlons and minbari didn't care, centauri and narn cooperated in one way or an other. This leads to the leaque of non allined worlds which if we are been honest is not vary advanced in technology and most of the time not even united. Given how brutal the B5 universe can be you can at least see why the Dilgar felt driven to become conquerors after they discovered that the star of their home planet was going to go nova. They probably saw their actions as being justified by their desperate situation. I wonder if that was known at the time of the Dilgar invasions or if it only became apparent once their star exploded.

The Dilgar had some help from the Drakh like stealth, and more advanced armor & weapons for their latest and last dreadnaught class. The Drakh also provided the means for the Dilgar to build Shadow planet killer missiles. The Drakh may had a hand in Omelos's sun prematurely going supernova. But the few Shadows who were awake during the war really gave no support to the Dilgar. Our background included why Jha'Dur was held by the windswords...and the engendering of Racial Hatred of the Minbari (Because of the Windsword breach of the agreement to allow the Dilgar refugee fleet to transit through both Minbari & Protectorate Space under escort...all pre-arranged by Jha'Dur in person...having moved ahead of the main fleet in one of the 4 Protra. I had wrote up the background...and fluff...including the fate of the Star Legion...the destruction of a minor race of religious fanatics who had the gall to attack the refugee fleet...the discovery of the massively built Centaur like Chassar...and subsequnt subjugatin of the race...that led to full integration of them into the SI...(A few of their assault troopers in full battle armour participated in the recovery operation at Zha'ha'Dum just before the Drakh and the other Shadow Allies blew up the rmaing structure...and the return of the Nightmare of the Past...the Dilgar Second Imperium...to square off against the IA.
I have bits of it still (Between a HD Crash...and losng alot of stuff when they swapped computers at work...where I did most of the wirk...including my initial imagery of a "Shadow Mishakur" before we settled into our more sensible SI ideas. There are some items still on the Project page...and Roman has most of the ships. (My favs are the Jashvita Battle Corvette...know affectionately as the "The White Star Killer" as it was a fairly even match between them..with a slight advantage to the Jashvita as she carries more weapons than expected...and the Mishakur II...known as "The Bone Breaker" that could take on a Shargoti Battleship)

pre-B5 humans would stand no chance against Starfleet, but some of the other races (Brakiri, Minbari, etc.) seem to be about on equal footing. Shadows and Vorlons would be problematic but not indestructable provided that phasers work like Babylon 5's energy weapons, and the other elder races would be pretty difficult to get rid of... It'd be possible, I suppose, but it would require heavy usage of the usual Star Trek deflector get-out-of-jail-free card and there would still be heavy casualties.

@@ChairmanMo Besides the extremely flawed and callous argument of "they deserved it", you know, ALL of them (all species, ages, ideologies, etc.), it would be ignorant to think none of the other races could identify something as important as Dilgar's sun about to go nova. This could have been a plot hole that JMS needed or just didn't have time to flesh out. A supernova isn't something to poo-poo. The effects of a star going supernova is BILLIONS of LIGHT YEARS. It would have affected neighboring stars and even hyperspace (there was mention somewhere that matter in normal space affects hyperspace). Distances in B5 were always wonky but from Earth to Centauri Prime was under 100 light years. So, yeah...
