BEST UNDERGROUND WIRE LOCATOR - TEMPO Communications 501 Tracker II: 👉 amzn.to/3UM449u Have you ever completed an underground electrical panel upgrade? Did you find it difficult?
Thank you for your videos! I’m an apprentice in commercial so I’m learning a lot from for videos for residential. One suggestion or really a request is on some electrical terms that you install when you say the name maybe you could give more detail on what purpose it provides and why. Most of the time you do and I really appreciate how informative you are with your explanations. Thanks again for your awesome videos!
Thanks for the feedback, I'll keep that in mind for future videos. If you can, give me an example of what specifically you noticed in this video so I can change it for the next video. Excited you’re in the train!
Ye i got one, What's a 'Ufer', you said the point of contact for ground, you found one that was a box, but you referred to it as a 'Ufer' Been in the trade 5 years mostly commercial and a lil industrial but never heard that term.
I stumbled on your channel and subscribed. Live job recording is not too common. The other guys talk alot and don't show, explain as much as you do. Thanks.
Do a review on it or surge protectors in general. There’s a lot of different types and some power companies offer them in a package. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
I am a Union electrician in California. I changed my own panel . My utility had me I stal conduit into their Christy box . Also you should have installed underground marking tape .
Yes, a couple years ago, our GC had his guys open things up for the plumber to connect the new sewer line to existing and they hit the gas line. All caught on our security camera. As you said, we had 12 responders there in minutes! The GC used no tracer and dug right next to the gas flags!
It’s not a joke. We always always need to double check the underground service locate marks and use a tracer WHILE we’re digging. Saves thousands of dollars.
great video! My son will start his electricians apprenticeship next month. What multimeter would you recommend? I subscribe to "buy nice or buy twice". Thank you!
That’s awesome to hear! The electrical trade is literally one of the best careers in my opinion. Below is a link to the meter I’ve used my entire career. It’s a Fluke, and it’s the best in my opinion. BEST Electrical Multi-Meter that I use everyday! 👉 amzn.to/3TNDSL2
A few years ago we blew the main breaker in our panel. It was old and failed to trip on a hot summer day when we were running the AC, charging the EV, and probably running a load of laundry at the same time (we know better now). Anyway, the electrician we hired recommended we go from a 100 amp to 200 amp panel so that we wouldn’t have this issue again. He installed the 200 amp panel but he definitely didn’t run any new conduit to the street like you have shown in this video. Is this necessary when upgrading a panel?
@@landerselectric no worries, thank you for your videos. Another reason is you don’t want that interrupting current to pass by a bunch of circuits prior to being diverted to ground, puts your valueables at risk. I’ve seen so many times an SPD get placed at the middle or bottom of a panel opposite of the incoming lugs. In fact when Schneider puts together their submittals for engineering review their software does not allow them to put the SPD in the middle of panel. Depending if it’s top or bottom feed it defaults to those locations.
The wire locator needs a ground connection. There is a ground spike in the locator case for it. You can use the common electric ground rod, but it will induct onto the neutral just be aware
Underground upgrades can take about 2 months total. It really depends on how fast your utility company will approve it. The actual digging and upgrading of the panel takes is about 2-3 weeks including the inspections.
You gotta get a tracer, because....."trust but verify" should always be at the forefront. Never trust the utility company - always double check their work (even if it means hiring your own independent surveyor).
I use the klein et 450 for locating wires even underground cement slabs don't matter. I can do it live as well so it disrupts people's lives even less. That's not a badly priced tool but if your in the market for something more managble klein et 450 does the job for a third of thr cost.
That one does work in some applications but the problem I have with that one is it doesn’t go very deep. The one in the video goes up to 7 feet deep and goes through concrete and other hard surfaces like a breeze.
@landerselectric, enjoy your Sunday with all your family around you. Happy Christmas 🎄 🎅 🤶 🎄 Thanks for sharing your brilliant knowledge with us,@landerselectric 👍 Take care,Sir From Nick Ayivor from London England UK 🇬🇧 ⏰️ 23:05pm Good Evening
I never hit a gas line. But I work for the electric utility. I have hit some main phone lines. My boss said it wasn’t cheap to fade Verizon come out and repair that. Lol

What was the size of the conduit on the existing panel ?
Surge Protective Device (SPD) is required if your AHJ is enforcing 2023 NEC, also should be located as close as possible to the incoming utility.
Good tips. Thanks!

Couldn’t agree more!
Great video. I am surprised they let you put a 90 in the middle of the run and not just angle it over. You must know a guy.
They were good with it. They let me put up to 270 degrees.

Yeah, I can imagine that would be a big bill!
Man, it's so much harder to be an electrician in California.
Fuking awesome. Use more Siemens please.
No Siemens here unless I have to. Love Square D.
Siemens are more heavy duty. Kick ass
I do like Siemens. I don’t like Eaton though.
What the hell is this guy doing?
