So crazy: I had a 22 yr old lawn and did some work on it 2 years ago to make it better, but this year the lawn was torn up by birds due to grubs. Thanks for the help
Local utah resident here, best time of year. Things are blooming, green grass, snow capped mountains. Utah is the best. When you apply the solution, do you have to wait a certain amount of time after you have already put down your spring fertilizer, or can they be done close together?
My grass around the mostly around the curb started dying quickly after strips of new sod was added..and then the dying brown grass affect started increasing.
Depends on the type of grubs you have and the climate you live in. My region the grubs come end of June through August. I start my preventive applications in May
I had no idea I had grubs last year. My entire back lawn is ruined now. That grass pulled up quicker than Wimpy getting a burger on Tuesday! Now the fun of leveling and reseeding.
Great video! So true they pesky things keep coming back year after year. I do have a question how soon after grub prevention can I put a weed and seed down?
I have a ? Do you know how many years it takes for Sod web worms to flush completely out of a yard I put sevin down each year for like 4 years and still coming back
In late Summer of '08 I found some dead spots in the lawn. Pulled up like a carpet that wasn't tacked down. I figured I would just replace the few spots with new sod. A few hours later my whole lawn was gone lol. That was my first sod project that I did myself and lasted until 2021 when it was time to get a new lawn and I was too old to do myself. I know you did offer 🙏🏻, maybe in 2034 😂😂😂👍🏻💚🦸🏻
I'll have to keep this product in mind for next season to try out. I have Duocide on hand mainly for tick mitigation, and the grub mitigation as a big side benefit..but their directions I find are kinda sketchy (it says to wait for an infestation then use the product, which I didn't know..and I'll be applying anyways once our temps come back up). What I really want also is something to control those Chinese lantern flies. I used Demand CS at the mixing rate in sygenta's memo, but they just persisted on some of my trees. So far I haven't seen any larvae yet, they way I did last season this time.
nothing wrong with duicide. i've used it before. as for the labels...... many times its a pay to play system due to regulations and liability. with that said demand is a fantastic product. its got a little miticide action to it, when applied correctly i've seen it work up to 90 days, in ideal conditions, as the label states. however for flying insects i've found using the lower rates and more consistent spraying works best. thanks for sharing your experience.
I have grubs since 2020 (luckily not every year) and can't properly get rid of them, pesticides not allowed in Europe😬. Nematodes might be another option... European grubs seem to like fine fescue more than any other grass type, did you have such experience?
great question. that is one thing that's not commonly listed on a label. Having been in the pest control world for 20 years here's my 2c. this type of product is a stem driven product. if your animals aren't grazers, meaning they eat the grass non stop, you'll be good. most side effects come from inhalation and getting sprayed directly. I too have pets and this is also important to me. what I do is I keep my animals off the grass until after it dries. when I have an animal that loves to eat the grass I keep them off of it until i mow 1 or two times. Hope that helps.
you can use the same treatments i believe. be sure to read the labels but its not uncommon with these active ingredients. the manufacturer of 7 uses the same actives and rated for flower beds.
Love your info. You are obviously a professional. So, why do you seem to always be applying pesticides without proper, waterproof footwear? Surely you realize that the soles of ones feet are primary absorption sites?
ewe.... that's a tough one. due to there nature of how get from house to house I would start by using a permethrin granular monthly during the heavy months.
Acelepryn is insanely expensive. It's over twice the cost of GrubEx. Yea it's more potent but it's supposed to be cheaper than granules since it's a mix your own type of
Jared treating cranberry girdlers/billbugs and was told by USU to treat them like grubs. While researching, Michigan State had an article which said imidacloprid will consistently reduce 75-100% of the grubs whereas chlorantraniliprole is 65-80%. What is your real-world experience with the effectiveness of both these insecticides for treating billbugs and cranberry girdlers? It would be nice to treat once with chlorantraniliprole.
I wish I could tell you about the efficiency with cranberry girdlers. I’ve had a great experience with imidacloprid efficiency over the past 14 years. It works great against grubs. With that said in our area the cranberry girdlers commonly hit in mid to late august. When we put our preventive imidacloprid treatments down in may there wasn’t enough residual to carry through. When they hit they go through lawns fast. We commonly use a repellent to control them since they’re closer to the surface. Hope that helps
@@pestandlawnginja Thanks Jared, that helps. Would it be a good idea to apply GrubEX with chlorantraniliprole now and Bayer Complete Insect Killer with imidacloprid late July for fuller coverage?
I have already been using these. Do you know if they will make more of their products available in this size? I think there is huge potential for them to make more in the home market.
I use a combo of Bayer Grub killer plus to kill live grubs and Scotts GrubEx for multi month control. I dont mind the extra application once every 3 months. But any experience on their effectiveness?
I'm trying to remember what I put down on my lawn at the previous address the three years prior. I was picking up all kinds of skills there! including: becoming a high tech gofer catcher lol. last year I caught 14 of those things with the victor black boxes that I was able to buy from Home Depot for 15 dollars. I bought six lol. I caught so many of them in the first few weeks that they got smart and stopped making the mounds all over my beautiful lawn. Instead, I would find holes, or usually it was my dog Maximus that would spot the holes, and I would dig, set the trap and within an hour, I usually had it. the first three I caught were within 10 minutes of setting the trap! They do get smart, so you have to be clever haha. Thought I would throw in that story for entertainment haha

How can I tell the difference between lawn spider mites and grubs? Live in Colorado and the snow has melted and I have yellow spots on the lawn. Help! 😨 Is it too early for grubs to pop up? It snowed 1 week ago in the burbs.
The nice thing is our areas are almost identical. You will physically see the bugs. if you get down on the lawn you'll find your answer. As i posted in this video the pull test is the most important aspect. I would suggest you watch my video on snow mold as well. most lawns, due to the amount of snow we received, have some areas of snow mold. Grubs in our areas come in two types, billbug grubs that overwinter in the adult form and japanese beetles that overwinter in the larvae form. never hearts to use the products I listed in the video.
I am looking for a ground kill for my RV pad. Looking at Home Depot for big quantities and everything is not that big and I have never had good luck. What do you recommend?
depends on what is around the rv pad. if there is no trees within 12 to 15 feet you can do a soil sterelant called bare spot. you'll still have to treat every 3 to 6 months. other than that I would treat every other month with a cobination of a glyphosate product like erase, duo stick surfactant, and dimension 2ew, as directed by the labels.
Saw Brian Mounts from Turf Mechanic vid on grub control. He said that Grub Ex which contains the same active ingredient is not as effective as imidacloprid. Is that in fact true?
there's going to be varying opinions on that. much of which will come down to the amount that's put down, the percentage of active ingredient, application rate , manufacturer etc.. but at best imidicloprid is rated 9 weeks to 12 weeks as a systemic through the plant.
get a bag of revive granualar. two mowes better you should be good if you didn't have extensive damages. for extensive damages i use commercial product by mixing 4oz essential plus 1 0 1 and sodium knockout 5 0 0
If you're using the new GrubEx, it's got the same active ingredient (Chlorantraniliprole). Difference though is it's granular. Have you had any compatibility issues with liquid fertilizers or herbicides, if you've mixed this with any?
