I have grubs every year. Used Merit but failed to water it in the lawn. Lawn looks great here in Maryland. I want to get a head start on my yearly grub problem. I'll try your product for 7,000 sq ft lawn. Love your video.
This was a very well explained educational video of A to Z on grub management and lawn care. Great job in making this video, pales in comparison to others I've seen on the same subject.
I live in Canada.. My front and back yard was invaded by grubs and the whole green lawn became brown..Then the whole back lawn was covered with dandelions...It took this female senior 3 years to finally get rid of grubs and dandelions, manually...I was getting discouraged while digging dandelions manually, because they grow faster...So what I did, after clearing a spot I will plant a perennial. So now I have a Botanical garden (as my neighbours call it)the whole back and front. No more grass. Up to this morning, I can still find grubs while weeding.
I had to naturalise my side yard and I am thinking about what's next as the grubs are winning here in Ontario. I have had good results with clover seeds as the grubs don't eat clover and it's nice, needs water to get started but once established it grows well.
Great video! I just invested more than $25,000 to have my entire yard resodded with Zoysia Emerald. However, the sod company delivered a LOT of squares with weeds along with dead squares in it and introduced more insects and fungus that I had no issues with before. To add insult to injury, the armadillos have drilled the snot out of my yard! The landscaper has not responded and did not listen to dissatisfaction with the final result. I'm so mad now (two months after installation) that I want to sue him, CTX Sod (sod), TruGreen (Nutsedge), and Ortho (GrubX)!
In Canada, we don't have armadillos, but we do have skunks that dig and route for grubs in the same manner. Unfortunately, virtually all chemical pesticides and herbicides have been banned in most Canadian provinces and no longer sold. Many Canadians cross the U.S. border and attempt to smuggle pesticides back into Canada, but they are usually caught and the materials confiscated and/or they are fined. There are recommended "natural grub treatments", but they are far more expensive, far less effective and they take a lot more work and a lot more time to accomplish. It took me three years to eliminate the grubs and achieve a great lawn for last year, but this year they are back.
Funny that you mentioned DuoCIde in today's video. I had forgot to include it in my first order from The Anderson's and had to then go back and make an additional order for DuoCide and PGF 16-4-8. If I had of remembered to have ordered this product I would have been able to put it out on either the 24th or the 25th which would have been great timing. It arrived yesterday the 27th. I am trying to implement your Curtain of Death/JumpStart/Ugly Lawn fix and am wondering what changes I should make with this crazy weather we are currently having? Last year is the first time I see those beetles in my yard, this year I saw about 2 inc grubs, now I know why some parts in the yard look burn. thanks for sharing :)
Great advice towards identifying grubs. However that product is not the best solution. It's becoming difficult to get and too expensive (per the label you need to use 4-8lbs per 1k ft). The label doesn't indicate how long the product remains effective, but says not to apply more than 4 times per year (which usually means multiple applications are expected). Merit would be a better option. ~1.5lbs per 1k and, if you time it right, a single application should be sufficient.
Around here the crows uproot big areas of people's yards looking for the grubs. They can make a mess but it comes back eventually. While making a new garden I came across a few but the crows haven't attacked my yard yet others around me have been plowed.

I can't seem to find anyone in my area (Gainesville, Fl) that can help me with my Palisades Zoysia. It was sodded three years ago and the lawn was beautiful for two years. Since then it has begun to thin out to the point dirt is showing in about 50% of the lawn. Last season I was told it was infested with grubs and a professional came in, aerated and treated to kill them. He said he could recover my lawn in a few months but after three months of worse results, he just quit. I have a sprinkler system and watering isn't the problem. Where would I start to save my lawn?
