The fights in this movie are truly something to behold. One of these fighters is a creature whose very essence transcends time and space, whose mind is a pit of twisted nightmares and the barest glimpse into it by a mere mortal is enough to drive them into a fit of rage and insanity. The other is the poor son of a bitch who has to fight Nicolas Cage.
The experience that this movie gave me reminded me of my yearning to create something that will let people feel the same. ❤🎉 Nic Cage is a cultural icon, and the use of his style and intensity was so wisely unleashed here. This is how you cast the Cage.
Yeah, I love this film so much as well. Such a creative, hyper-expressive masterpiece, and a perfect vehicle for a hyper-expressive performance from Cage. I cannot wait for Cosmatos’s next one.
Keep your eye on this director, Panos Cosmatos. He's only made two films and they are both visual masterworks. I expect great things from him in the future.
This is one of my favorite films. I'm so glad to see someone else that loves it and a reaction to boot. Thanks so much for this. great time. Really, such an uncommon film experience the first time I saw this. Feel so lucky to have caught it at an underground theater.
When I saw this a couple of years ago I freaked out at Linus Roache's role. I had watched him for a long time as Michael Cutter in Law and Order. Not even in the same galaxy as this guy!
The first clue that told me how much I'd love this film is the use of King Crimson's Starless over the opening. A towering, majestic composition that perfectly sets a mood and colour to the screen. (And it's an easier film to follow than Behind the Black Rainbow, an earlier work of Cosmatos.) And I love Ridiculous Cage, more than Serious Acting Cage.
If y’all have not seen Pig (2021,) I highly, highly recommend checking it out after this reaction. It is my favorite Nicolas Cage film, and it definitely has similar themes/elements to this film. (I think Mandy is probably my second favorite Cage film.) I absolutely love to see people reacting to this film and films like it, so I’m super happy with this video-Especially the discussion. 🙏🏼☺️ Godspeed.
Loved this reaction! Saturn returns to it's celestial position every 7 years and challenges/punishes/rejuvenates your past. Such an awesome film. So many tasty interpretations of this film, thank you :)
yeah Mandy has some kind of different pupil size in one eye, and what's weird is the main character of his first film also has strange eyes that he covers up with contacts. not sure what the metaphor is there.
This was the PERFECT film to get Nicolas Cage out of the purgatory of direct to DVD nonsense he's been (admittedly, the best) part of for years. His new film, the A24-produced Dream Scenario, looks absolutely stellar!
the reason he would do that small stuff B movies was because he knew his name would elevate them and give them opportunities they wouldn't be able to access. Its very cool and nice to see someone who doesn't judge a film based on its budget and quality. A rising tide raises all ships.
Totally agree with the comment about feeling happy to see a star who isn’t only searching out vehicles to heighten his game. I remember some years ago a very depressing interview Robert Downey Jr. gave putting down independent film, somehow they were a waste of his time and had such little pay. Cage is committed to his imagination and heart, both of which are pretty immense.
This movie has been a nice tool for me in telling who has good taste. Love this one su much! Fav horror director! Recommend to watch his ep on Guillermo del Toros series.
What a treat ! This is on my underrated movie recommendation list alongside Infernal Affairs 2 and Elite Squad 2, both of which if you have not heard of I'd massively recommend. Panos Cosmatos needs to make more.
I a lot of ways, this movie is a lot like the Marv section of Sin City. The biker gang is a lot like Kevin by way of the Cenobite, that hitman gang in Hobo with a Shotgun, and that one painting in The Royal Tenenbaums. The main bad guy in this is like a take on the guy behind everything in the Marv story. Nick Cage’s character is kind of like Marv, and his relationship with his girlfriend is like a take on why Goldie was with Marv; although Goldie is with Marv because of the immediate danger she’s in, while the backstory the girl tells in this implies it has to do with her father. I do wonder if this was originally offered to Arnold Schwarzenegger. There’s a lot with Cage’s character that seems like references to previous Schwarzenegger movies.
@@Smoothjazzsundays - I almost turned it off when I watched it, but decided to stick with it. The movie didn't seem to be going anywhere for quite awhile despite the bad acid trip visuals which were fascinating but still pretty slow. Yet I loved the final act. It made up for all the waiting.
Oh speaking of Saturn - Saturn isn’t the God of war. Saturn represents time - and thus death and also Karma The symbol for Saturn is the scythe. What death holds…. Also in Astrology Saturn and Jupiter balance each other. Saturn creates safe boundaries and rewards discipline. Jupiter expands. It sees opportunity indiscriminately. Both together keep each other in check - letting the person expand within reason. In the film Mandy balances Red(Nick Cage) Also Jupiter rules Sagittarius and Pisces (the dreamers- the philosopher and the artist) Saturn rules Capricorn and Aquarius (the provider and the emotionally detached thinker)
Okay now do Pig But back to Mandy; this is quintessential Nic Cage, and arguably his best film (next to Pig, of course) Yeah def gonna Patreon that request :D
The movie is ripe with mythological symbolism. Salamanders were once thought to be immune to fire. MANDy. SalaMANDer. This is foreshadowed with the lake scene with Mandy as she emerges illuminated by fire early on - her spirit lives on bound to Red, that's why he gets basically transported into her heavy metal fantasy-tinged version of reality. I love this movie so much.
I viewed it as Nic Cage's character losing his mind after his wife was killed. You're seeing through his increasingly warped view of reality as he goes nuts and murderizes.
OmG this episode has me rolling! ..you two vibe off each other in such a hilarious way.. i love ariana, but theres something about a little m/f action, nawmeen?

I’m with Chad in his love for this movie, I was smiling the same way while watching Mandy for the first time
The thing about the shirt is he first met Mandy with it. An she was wearing the same shirt.

"that's a cool t-shirt" THANKS MOM
So badass how he flips them off while firing and then offs himself. I just respect it

Beyond the Black Rainbow is the other movie and it is very good, as well.
@@johnhazard9491 YES IT IS!
he also did a pretty cool episode on Cabinet of Curiosities that had Eric Andre in it!
Also perfect last name for surreal style director.
When is his next release predicted?

When I saw this a couple of years ago I freaked out at Linus Roache's role. I had watched him for a long time as Michael Cutter in Law and Order. Not even in the same galaxy as this guy!
Panos Cosmatos wanted Nic Cage to play Jeremiah but, Cage insisted on playing the roll of Red. And we are all the better for it.
Linus Roache was perfect fit for Jeremiah. He completely disappeared in the role.
So glad my brother got me to see this in theaters. Wild darn movie.
RIP Johann Johannsson

Oh i loved Pig. i actually did a reaction for it when it came out and it was the first takedown and channel strike we ever got lol
This movie is my jam. Crazy I am just now seeing this on YT.

“Game” was an autocorrect, meant to write “fame”.
"that's like me once a week" hahaha

Cage with a vodka bottle is one of my favorite scenes of him. Then its pedal to the metal.. 🤘

It's awesome that's his real name.
Chad loves the movie as much as i do!!!!! 😂
"crazy evil". this movie is the stuff of legend. wish it was out in 4k blu-ray.
Love this movie as much as Chad but Maple's reaction to this has put Diegesis at the top shelf of all the reaction channels for me.

The Reaper is actually what his crossbow is called. The axe he made is called The Beast
You guys should react to The Viewing or Beyond the Black Rainbow next.
"The patreon half-time show"
!!!!
❤😂
Love you guys
I watched Mandy like 5 times over 4 weeks when it came out. Just absolutely transfixed. None of it makes sense. Who cares. It's awesome.
I viewed it as Nic Cage's character losing his mind after his wife was killed. You're seeing through his increasingly warped view of reality as he goes nuts and murderizes.
excellent choice! this movie was brilliant. director is a genius. nicholas cage was in his bag.
more maple though.
Lol the RUclips captions wrote Diegesis as "diet Jesus"
Thank you for the niche weird movies
Panos is such a nerd and i love it
Me and this dude vibe, he loves every part I love too. I wanna swap movie recommendations with him lol
This movie is so trippy
Well, now you have to watch Beyond the Black Rainbow.
Review the 1 off The Viewing (part of the cabinet of curiosities series)
I'm not familiar
Oh it’s the one episode directed by Panos(the director of Mandy)
You can actually buy cheddar goblin Mac n Cheese from the film’s distributor.
hell yeah chad is back
Do a Nicholas Cage binge. He's got an amazing filmography, many critically acclaimed ones.
Why is Chad smiling? What's wrong with him?
Lol

Noice
Who's the dude never seen him on the channel before?
He runs the channel and picks the stuff the girls watch! Names Chad
0:02 That is clearly Arianna Other Left 🤣
That's Arianna, she got a hair cut
