Nothing about the Jurors should be shared in the news or on Social Media by ANYONE!!
The court’s fault, imo. Technology has advanced, and real life is slow to catch up.
The courts fault, yes , but the media could use some Commonsense! You don't need to report like this right now! Wait 10 days, and you can do the whole thing bc he's guilty. But don't endanger, frighten, and cause panic for these jurors. You DON'T HAVE TO REPORT LIKE FOX !!!! Show some backbone, some morality, and just plain courtesy to protect innocents while the pos attacks and threatens jurors, witnesses, judges, and children! I hope they jail him for contempt.

Why they cannot be given the same anominity as a Grand Jury escapes me, but as they're not, the press of America absolutely has a responsibility to behave better, and to say "well everyone else will do it anyway" is NOT a defense.
Good behavior does not require unanimity, just ethics.

Full-time news networks need things to report and so everything is now on the table to report on and the more outrageous the better because it gets eyes and ears tuned in. Those networks also rely on ad revenue in order to stay on the air and without viewers, they can't get advertisers to buy time on their network. It's why Fox is so successful. Murdoch made his billions by hiring people who will say the most outrageous things possible and they don't care whether or not any of it is true or is pure lies and propaganda. Their viewers want to be outraged and pandered to with things that spark their paranoia. CNN was first and was mostly reliable with what they reported on and still is pretty good most of the time. MSNBC is IMO the most reliable for truth and facts but will use pandering too. In today's world we hear about things that would never have been reported in the old days and with social media, it has become a sewer of propaganda and disinformation that so many are now turning to for their so-called news and information. Our national enemies have totally invaded the social media sphere and we Americans are way too gullible and unsophisticated to be able to parse out what is genuine and what is propaganda. Our enemies know this and are using it against us.
We used to only get news for a short hour at noon, six and ten o'clock. Now it's 24/7.

He's not welcome in Australia. During 1986-7 the state of NSW in Australia asked for bids to build the first casino in Sydney. Four groups submitted bids for the lucrative project. They do understand, but there is so much competition among news outlets that the temptation is to just give viewers what they want.
Though a tough pill to swallow, we have to admit that part of the problem--as well as one of the solutions--lies with us. By showing interest in details about the jurors, we encourage the media to keep talking about them. If enough viewers complained directly to the news media that they didn't want to hear any details about the jurors, many journalists would stop talking about them and focus more on the quality nap time that Donnie is getting during the trial. (FOX News and other conservative media outlets, of course, would just keep reporting on it.)

* seven men and six women.
* two lawyers, an engineer, a teachner, etc..
* three between 40 and 50, two between 50 and 60, etc.
By reporting it this way, the audience gets a feeling for composition of the jury without knowing that juror number 4 is a white male, 45 years old engineer.
I don't buy that they don't understand, but they don't care, it's "not their problem" or amplify Trump outrage as partisans.
Do not expect moral self restraint when they settled huge defamation cases backing the big lie.
Court procedure and/or the law needs to change, commercial media wants the big circus.

I really wish the media would stop airing Trump's crazy rants immediately after he leaves the courtroom. The prosecution can't do that, so it's lop sided reporting. Only one person is doing the talking and people are inherently stupid so they'll believe it.

The prosecution should not be allowed to persecute someone in public. That would give the prosecutors an unfair advantage. The defendant has every right to defend themselves in the court and public spaces. you are not thinking this through. What you want would be so unfair to a defendants rights no matter who it is.

It's the 24-hour news cycle. They HAVE to talk about something. And they have to be controversial to get the ratings to get the advertising. It's a very bad model for news reporting as it serves the corporations well but the nation very badly..
I watched the trials of Johnny Depp, the man suing Gwyneth Paltrow, and murderer Alex Murdaugh. No information on the jurors was discussed. We need to know the jurors' names as much as we need to know the name of the person who sewed the shirt that we are wearing.
At least now it'll be focused on the actual trial and not so much on the jurors anymore I don't think they should have focused that much to begin with but at least that part is over

Donna Shalala is wrong to think protection of jurors will stop violence against them. The public does not need to know who they are. All they need to know is their verdict. All else is endangering the jurors. Being anonymous is the best protection.

Interesting angle. I think it's helpful for everyone to know how the system works and so on though. We as Americans vote for legislators who try to address our priorities, and when America as a whole hears that fear of Trump's base is literally making jury members quit, that increases the chance the laws change to protect them better.
Let me restate that. The media shouldn’t have had any access whatsoever to the jury selection whether in the courtroom itself or an overflow room.
@@BruceKSanderson I still see value in reporting how it's going down. Another problem is a lot goes into the court records which are public. I would be happy to say that jury members can only be described by industry sector, perhaps. That's of general interest. But without media we'd have no report of Trump glowering and mumbling to some potential jury members, of a jury member breaking down under her fear of retribution and so on. This is valuable reporting that can sway minds or at least sway voter turnout rates.

Rather than protect jurors, keep them anonymous so they don't need protection and won't have to worry about their safety. And what does it say about Dozy Donald that we have to discuss protection?

The details of the people who were selected should have been protected from the get-go, they should have been sealed; The jurors must be protected from Trump's verbal abuse, and more importantly from the possibility that a Trump fan could act out on any of his verbose.

Sure, but even with a totally silent media, the jurors have friends, family and coworkers who will figure out where they are and what they're doing, and of those, some number won't keep it a secret. If even one leaks it, the Trump base newsgroups and chatrooms will dox them and put them on the list.

I'm British so my cultural experience is different. Giving descriptions of jurors in ANY criminal case just seems incredible - and totally unnecessary. And particularly when the defendant has a history of verbally attacking and defaming anyone who crosses or may cross him and dogwhistling to his violent cultists. And why is he allowed to talk about the trial outside the court, at rallies, on rightwing TV and radio shows and on social media? - isn't that trying to influence the outcome of the trial (as he has been doing all along already) and any appeal case.

It's sad to listen to panelists saying that the media should not be required to exercise professional restraint in reporting information that might identify jurors. Given the gravity of the task facing the jurors it should not be too much for the media to co-operate. Saying that stepping up police protection is not a realistic option and is no comfort to the jurors.

This Donald Trump trial spectacle is riveting, and I'm watching this from Jamaica.
Keep the jurors safe. Do not share information about them. Once the trial is over, then if and only if the juror gives permission, share information about them. Keep in mind, if DJT is found guilty, the jurors will be in even more danger.

As someone who studied journalism and is a journalist, we are very disciplined. It’s just the insanity of the news cycle and having to constantly be worried about driving views that creates the hellscape of our current system.
Also want to casually mention “He may never see the inside of a prison cell.” America… get your house in order. Why is there different levels of justice for people in higher economic levels?

Predicting how the trial will "play out" will become moot if the jurors are identified and threatened, or worse. There will be generations who can pour through every juror in the future, but for a few weeks I think the public should need to know nothing more than, at most, gender split/general age demographic with no details that could in any way personally identify them. Anything else is not worth risking people's lives, or risking the legitimacy of the trial!
Stephanie is correct. There is no guarantee that he will be found guilty. Even a hung jury is a high probability. A discussion on what reasonable doubt might look like should happen as the the trial proceeds.
I'm feeling confident that the judge recognizes the real potential jeopardy for the jury members and court personnel. As such this judge will move the trial along, provide security to the jury, and, if Trump continues to violate the gag order - put Trump in jail. That last measure will absolutely get Trump's attention.

The media have absolutely no reasonable purpose in having identities of Jurors chosen at this stage of trial -- but only AFTER the conclusion of the trial, and even then, in very limited ways, have an idea of the make up of the jury pool, rather than individual identities, which should be sealed for several years on high profile cases where there have been juror and court employee threats made.
Media, on the other hand, does have a reasonable purpose in watching the proceedings of the trial, the questions and answers given by witnesses, whose identities may be concealed from all but the Jury, Prosecuting Attorneys, Defense Attorneys, Accused, and Judge...
Journalists need to stay out of creating courtroom drama around identities of juries, judges, court employees, and witnesses -- until verdicts are given, and even then, much of what constitutes a juror's identity should be under seal, if the juror requests it, from being published by any media.
It is NOT A QUESTION of BIAS! It's whether or not a juror CAN RULE ON THE EVIDENCE PRESENTED FAIRLY and ignore their biases!

Glad to see Brian Stetler back, at MSNBC, CNN made a big mistake canceling his show. A very honest, genuine, educated, impartial journalist!!!

One juror was dismissed after she reportedly said, "I wouldn't believe a word TFG says even if his tongue was notarized".
I’m concerned not only for the juror members safety but also for the witnesses and prosecutors.
Nobody needs to know anything of the jurors except they have been seated and are ready to hear this case !
The jury has to be protected from the defendant.
Let that sink in for a moment.
And we still have people that support him as a Presidential candidate?
I will never understand that!!!!
