  • In this video, we troubleshoot and fix a free Allavino 177 bottle wine fridge (VSWR177-1BWLN) that doesn't even have a hint of cooling. 2 months after recording this video, the fridge still runs great!
    Supco piercing valve: amzn.to/3hK8R8j
    R134a refrigerant: amzn.to/2UbjDvl
    Refrigerant manifold: amzn.to/36EIkmr
    Cheaper manifold just for charging: amzn.to/3hM0Lfq

    I picked up this exact unit with the exact same problem for $125. It is now running great thanks to you and your video. Thank you soooo much!!!!! Cheers.

    Joe, you just got me a ~2000 dollar wine fridge for a 5 dollar valve and some r134a i had in the garage. THANK YOU! I got it for free and it just needed freon!

      Just keep an eye on it... I've since seen a few of these wine fridges come in to my garage and they like to leak refrigerant from the copper tube feeding into the evaporator. I shot a video of that repair, using proper refrigeration techniques, but I was scolded for providing sealed system repair advice so I took it down.

    Thanks Joe. I have the exact same fridge with the exact same problem. My issue now is figuring out how to add coolant with even fewer specialty tools than you have.

      You could probably wing it using one of those automotive recharge kits for r134a assuming that's the same refrigerant you have. You'll need to get a quick coupler to quarter inch adapter though that's all of the automotive systems use quick couplers.

      @@JoesGarageProductionsLLC Thanks. I also noticed you have links to the pieces in your description…after I posted my comment.

    You get an award for this video. Excellent job of narrating along with your methodical repair process. We just brought on of these home tonight. It has 11 shelves but is still in the back of our SUV. The Guy tried to fix it as he said the fans are shot. But he said new fans didn't help. He sent the fans back to Amazon. We are hoping that we can fix ours. Did yours keep running after the stop-leak? I would imagine these are a bitch to dispose of? Fingers crossed I can fix it. Thank you again.

      Thank you for the compliment! This fix only lasted about a month or so. It's been a while since I recorded this video but I have seen a few of these units since then. A common failure point that I see is a leak in the U shaped copper tubing leading to the evaporator - they seem to leak at the braze joints for whatever reason. Unfortunately the fix it's kind of complicated that you have to recover the refrigerant, replace the tubing, replace the drier, pull a vacuum and recharge the system. Unless you have the tools and knowledge to do such a repair, it's probably cheaper to periodically dump a little bit of refrigerant into it 🙂

    Hope it’s still working joe… I would check the evap coil behind the backing board for your leak if it gets low again… excess moisture and factory braising usually causes some issues with the tubes going through. Just a thought. Great video brother. Keep ‘em up

      Thank you! The charge lasted for about a month but then it stopped going again. I had it some leak sealer and it has been fine since then so far. Fingers crossed! I was not looking forward to pulling all of the shelving out to get to the evaporator :-)

    Question for you - do you need the brass adaptor shown at 16:10 to add the refrigerant? Or would the penetrating valve kit alone be enough? My dual zone wine cooler is still cooling, but not to desired levels. I plan to add refrigerant per your video as a first step. Just want to make sure I have all the parts in place before I start the process. Thanks for the links to amazon, by the way, very helpful! If the adaptor is needed, can you post a link for that too? Thanks!

    • @JoesGarageProductionsLLC
      @JoesGarageProductionsLLC  2 года назад +1

      The adapter is needed in my case because my R134a manifold set has automotive quick couplers and the piercing valve has standard 1/4" refrigeration fittings. If your R134a manifold has standard 1/4" fittings, no adapter is needed. I can't find the exact adapter I used in this video (might be discontinued), but this one *looks* like it might work. If it does, please report back so others can benefit.

    Hey Joe! Great video. I have a similar fridge that is not working. Everything checks out (relays ok, fans run, etc) but the compressor does not turn on. It works when I test it direct to current, but the "system" isn't turning it on. The only thing I can think of is that the PC board is not working properly. It lights up and fans run but doesn't start up the compressor, and the start relay works. Any advice?? THANK YOU!

      Hmmm wondering if maybe you have a bad temp sensor or perhaps a bad compressor relay... I have had pretty good luck with these but all they do is heat (if you want), cool, and read out the temp. You will need to wire up your fans to always run with the compressor and you will obviously lose the factory digital display. You will also go from 2 zone to 1 zone.

      Thanks for the quick reply Joe. The starter relay tests ok, but didn’t think about the temp sensor, although I have no idea where that might be located. Possible inside the cabinet? I was thinking it may be the control board. Thank you again!

    • @JoesGarageProductionsLLC
      @JoesGarageProductionsLLC  8 месяцев назад

      @@alanthompson1188 could very well be the control board. Could just be a single component on there too. Depending upon the unit there could be multiple temp sensors. At a minimum you'll have one inside the cabinet under a vent of some kind. Most likely. You will likely also have one on the evaporator

    Be careful uncrimping the tube. I messed up and put a small hole in the tube right away. The little refrigerant that was left, leaked out. Totally my fault. Not sure how to proceed. Probably need to replaced the short tube.

      You can probably clean the copper up really well and use some silver solder on it, such as Sta-Brite #8 (amzn.to/3AhAA7Y) on it to seal it up. That silver solder is rated for HVAC usage. Probably not the cheapest solution as it is very expensive (a 1 lbs spool will last you for the rest of your life most likely), but it might be the least labor intensive.
