    You have probably saved me £250 +, so a big thank you to you . Such a detailed video …..
    Fixed my Howdens Lamona 6911 , wine cooler approx 7 years old . Ordered the part as advised , correct resistance 15 ohms and 2 for £7 . If you take off the old starter relay and shake it , if it rattles it is faulty . Took apart and discs was broken , same video . Not much room when taking off cover , so best to put on its side and be careful not to damage anything .

      I had the same issue, new relay was few mm larger so had to ditch the cover to get it in, but worked like a charm, strangely the motor hardly made any difference in noise but clearly this was the issue, a really good video.

    Just saved my Mum £300. Actually I don’t think she’d have replaced it so I’ve probably just increased her electricity bill by fixing it. But nice easy fix, took about 30 minutes. Replacement part was a bit taller so it didn’t go back together quite as neat as it came apart. Her CDA model has only lasted about 4 years, our Lamona one is still going strong 7 years later, but I did order 3 of them just in case!

    Another thank you. Getting the black box off was way harder than 'it just lifts off' but with a bit of perseverance, you've saved me hundreds. The replacement part is slightly longer than the original and is a tight squeeze but it all works now and I am really grateful! With such a common failure, you'd think they would make it an accessible service part but that would be too easy!!

Bought the replacement via the link in one of the other comments - didn’t quite fit at first (similar to Ben Cook). Turned the unit back on and it started working again! Paid £5.99 for the part. Saved me about £300. And with the satisfaction of having fixed it. Thanks again!

    • @razenby
      @razenby  2 года назад +2

      Glad it helped. The main issue is that the supply impedance of the GB mains supply is low and the voltage is high and most stuff is designed to operate for 220-230V mains and in the UK it is 230 - 255 volts. It gives the thermistor a much greater whack of current when starting the motor. Power dissipation goes up as square of the voltage.....

  • @neilwalker4277

    I almost gave up trying to figure out how to get access thinking I shouldn't turn it on its side. Then I saw your video 😁
    That plastic lid is a bit of a pain to remove...
    The cda engineer on the phone actually told me this part.
    I took the old one apart and it looked ok, the disc was whole but one bit a little black.
    Anyway it works now. Only thing I can think of apart from it is broken is I noticed the red wire to the ptc was loose and wouldn't stay on. Dunno if it was that or the ptc, but it works now.
    I agree, £250 quid and it only lasts under 2 years...
    I paid £9 plus postage for mine direct from them.

    • @razenby
      @razenby  2 года назад

      You need to change that part if it was blackened. It will likely fail again.

      Glad to be of service. I suspect that there are lot of these out there. It constitutes a massive disrespect for the customer and the planet to incorporate such poor quality components. Part of the problem is the UK 240V mains supply. The power dissipation increases with the square of the voltage and the UK mains can go as high as 260 volts. Let us know how it goes.

    Looks like there are a lot of wine coolers out there that are basically identical to this one, just sold under different names but still made in the same factory in China. My cooler is branded 'Lamona' but it's identical to yours, and with exactly the same fault. Many thanks for making a video that does explain what evidence you found of the fault - makes it easy for me to verify that I've diagnosed the problem correctly.

    • @razenby
      @razenby  2 года назад +1

      Thanks for the info. The problem is UK mains. The voltage is too high (Up to 254V) and the ability to provide a big gulp of current is very good. Resulting in the PTC being overdriven. This is designed for 220-230V continental mains. I see a lot of product sthat don't work well in the UK.

    • @razenby
      @razenby  2 года назад +1

      Great news that another one has been saved. It is our UK mains that doesn't help these things survive - they are really designed for 2220-230V operation. With our 100A mains supplies and a mains voltage that can easily reach 265V it give the thermistor a really hot supper every time the compressor starts up. Thanks for watching.

      I agree totally entirely. Al the mining, scrapping, melting down remaking is just churning more crap into the environment. The cycle of 'Take, make crap, scrap and throw away' needs to be 'take make, repair and carry on using'. Something like this should have a mandatory lifetime of 30,000 hours at least, If it needs fixing them make the spares cheap and provide the tech info and then you have LOCAL employment for repair Technicians and not recycling, landfill and pollution. When was the last time your were offered the choice: ' Do you want to spend 10% more and have something that last 5 times as long?'

    Great video, thought I was onto a winner and replaced the part which was broken but still not chilling below 12c , and compressor doesn’t seem to be functioning correctly, - copper pipes not getting hot / cold. what’s the next component / diagnostic process to Follow? Thanks

    • @razenby
      @razenby  10 месяцев назад +1

      Please like and subscribe. First make sure the cooling fans are running and the heat exchanger that they blow on isn't stuffed with fluff. After checking/cleaning and it OK, check if the compressor is still running when it bottoms out at 12 deg C. i.e. The controller is demanding cold (compressor on) but the compressor has not enough ooomph to do the job. If the compressor doesn't turn off then it is likely low on refrigerant gas which likely means the unit is toast. However if the compressor cuts out at 12 deg C and the fridge indicated 12 deg C then you have a set point issue or the controller has failed. Out of interest what is the measured temp in the fridge when it indicated 12 deg C?

    • @razenby

      That is a shame. Double check the connections to the motor. Do the fans run and compressor run. You can hear it and feel it vibrating when running,. If the compressor is running and it isn't getting cold then you have a mechanical or coolant gas problem. (Refridgerant pressure is low or has all leaked out). If the compressor isn't running then check the relay on the controller. Is the display steady and bright and the set point controls working? if not suspect an electrolytic capacitor on the controller.

      Fan is easy to change. just remove the top bolts and unplug ans the fan plus mount lifts out.

    My CDA cooler wasn’t cooling down, replaced with the recommended part and it’s now cooling. Unfortunately it’a over cooling below the 5c to the point water is freezing. Any ideas? It’s like it’s just stuck on constantly

    • @razenby
      @razenby  11 месяцев назад

      Is it displaying the correct temperature? if so you likely have a stuck compressor relay on the control board. If it isn't displaying the correct temperature then check the temperature sensor wiring and if wiring OK then suspect the sensor itself. Good luck.

    I have the same problem. I just opened the same part, but the disc is fully intact.
    Still not cooling 🤷‍♂️

      Hmm . Is the compressor running (vibrating) if so then you have lost the refrigerant. Is teh temperature sisplay correct? If s check the relay on the controller board.

    I have the Lamona 6911 model, Which doesnt go below 12c even though its set to 5c, tried to follow the vid but couldn't get the bottom panel down far enough to get to the black box? Help?

    • @razenby
      @razenby  Год назад

      If the compressor is continues to run and the temperature will go no lower then you either have low gas OR blocked heat exchanger (dust and fluff), OR if it has fans then check they are blowing, The low gas needs a re-gas. If it is cyclo-pentane then it is very flammable. If the compressor is not running then investigate the cause.
