I loved the documentary though. I didn’t know what the Barkley was before I saw that film. I’ve enjoyed sharing it with friends who hate the typical film.
I think that most will agree that one of the things (or people) that was missing the most this year was Gary Robbins. Man I can't wait to see this guy finally finishing it!
@@marius8648 yeah I watched his video where he explained why he decided no to come this year. Even if you'd completely disregard the risk about covid, financially it'd be crazy expensive to do it so I completely understand. But I believe it 100% if Kevin says that he was greatly missed!
@@michaelfedora I haven't watched this yet but I was wondering why it would be expensive? Do you mean running it? Don't the participants pay an entry that should cover costs ? Looks like pure torture. Im interested.
@@harrygrimley4352huge cost risk because of compulsory hotel quarantine when returning to Canada from States which would be at least $2000 (three days hotel quarantine) or 14 days if tested positive for covid on return (so $10k+). If not allowed on the return plane to Canada due to possible positive test he'd have to pay for US health care and I don't even want to start guessing how much that would be and as far as I know could be in tens of thousands (if not hundreds of thousands, I'm not even kidding). I'm in the UK and same as Canada we have a free health care. Hopefully we can see Gary next year when everything calms down! Watch his video ruclips.net/video/Q_pGzfBXD6s/видео.html
I am beyond excited that Courtney Dauwalter is finally competing! This year's Barkley was tough but I have no doubt that if she competes in future years she'll do really well.
Love this kind of Barkley coverage, shows the toughness but also the great and profoundly human story behind it. Maybe one day I'll earn a spot...out there! Thanks for the good work!
Great documentary! Great footage! Seems like the weather was a huge factor. I was surprised when I saw the gentleman at the beginning of the film, Noé Castañón, Him and I ran together briefly toward the end of Wasatch 100 this year. He is a very cool, humble person. I really enjoyed the time I had to talk with him during the race. I'm glad to see he had the opportunity to run this race. Thanks for sharing.
Laz is one of the people I most admire with what he’s created and what he’s achieved. That rain though. Thank you for this film. Add Jared to the list. Glad he came back.
A brilliant piece of work absolutely capturing the essence of the Barkley. For me, with many events claiming "the toughest....." this is easily the actual toughest. So many incredible athletes that don't make it show just how extreme this unique and eccentric race is. I am in awe of anyone who lines up to start. And of the legend that is Lazarus. Great film thank you.
Especially beautiful video of the woods and sections of the course and the weather. Ah, the weather - the very epitome of the uncertainty Lazarus Lake talks about at the beginning. Thank you Kevin!
Jamil shaking his head in disgust at the watch hahaha I was just east of there that weekend visiting family. the weather was ridiculous. That seemed to expedite people dropping. Crazy.
I am quite certain I will never try to run the Barkleys, and I know in my heart I will never finish that race. My need for uncertainty has its limits. Some people are just bigger than me.
This is only your second movie?!? I mean, your channel* is almost empty … What an entrance :D Great. Thank you. (‚Channel‘ may not be the right word; it’s translated from German. Sorry)
When suburban XC hipsters turned ultramarathon runners move to major US urban centers, then to Seattle, Boulder or Portland for more greenery and fresh air, then to Asheville to later finally fnd the Barkley Marathon. But they're there only for 60 or so hours. Then back to Seattle, Boulder or Portland.
@@kevinlaraphoto interesting thanks..I wonder what the Maine connection might be cause well I just moved here and it's the only place I've ever seen it
@@joejoe-ds8xr I think that was the point, there’s no connection in particular, it’s just incredibly hard to find. Just another obstacle for the racers to figure out before the race even starts!
He is Lazarus Lake, the founder of the Barkley Marathons. He is one of the original ultrarunners, and now a full-time race director. He’s run for many days and many miles.
Honestly half of why this is so cruel is they have to get there from Knoxville. I don't think the EU/Latin American folks are ever prepared for how disconnected that part of the world is.
best Barkley film, no cheezy music, just the sound of the rain it really puts you there!

but the black and white video? yeesh
Couldn't agree more! The overblown epic soundtracks on most ultra/enduro films is often so cringe.
