- The midnight difficulty is actually not that bad. I say that but I can still get folded by a random NPC. However, after spending so much time at the Dojo, I can tell I am more confident when it comes to parrying. In my early impressions, I assumed the parrying timing was too tight but it was again a skill issue.
In this video, you can get a glimpse at the build I am most likely going to use for the foreseeable future. It is centered around parrying and dealing a lot of damage with my sub weapons. I still need to tidy things up a bit since I was not too lucky with the gear set bonuses

Midnight? I only saw twilight and started on that difficulty. Is midnight harder? Does that unlock after the game is completed or something? Can I start a new game on Midnight after unlocking it? And I see you can get every single skill node on all four trees?
@Prestegist08 It unlocks once you complete the game. It guides you on what you need to do.

Man I just get my ass kicked in Midnight. I’ve only liberated like 4 public orders and I feel I have a pretty powerful set up.
I have similar issues, though I have at least cleared most of the first area. Some of them took forever until I learned to stop trying to rely on countersparking so much. I focused more on dodging and spacing, and only countersparking when the moves are predictable. I hate all of the little delays enemies make; which combined with super armor on their attacks ramped up the feeling of bullshit getting slung your way.
I have prioritized dodging, and have begun to use the grappling hook to interrupt many of their strikes. If they put an effect on their weapon, I sue the grappling hook until it runs out. Make sure you do it on the ground though, in the air it will fling your character towards them.
Daayum I can't wait to get those red coloured/rarity gear. Those numbers are mind-blowing.

1:16 BTW, what is that pink coloured bar above the HP and Stamina bars that show "Triangle+O" and how do you get it to activate?
How/when do you get this level of rarity for gear?

@@ks24pl97 Just found out. Apparently it's a post-game thing and only becomes available if you play on Midnight difficulty which is a bummer IMO. Here's what it said:
"The biggest post-game feature of Rise of the Ronin lies in the addition of the Midnight difficulty level, which ups the already challenging combat to the level that Team Ninja veterans might be itching for (and seriously intensifies the Public Order camps). Completing missions on Midnight puts Masterwork gear on the table, which is the highest rarity available in the game. This function is essentially the same concept as Way of the Strong from Nioh, with Masterwork gear likewise being the equivalent of Divine equipment."

Midway in chapter two you unlock the burning Ki, that is the triangle + O gauge. It gives you infinite stamina and sets your blade on fire. There is a companion that changes that to poison instead of fire but I don't find it incredibly useful.
As for masterwork (red) gear it is a post game thing, though you can get some at the very end, and also breakthrough is a post game unlock as well.

How are you able to hold so many bolster items?
Max out the foreign books with the inventor to fully upgrade all his tools (glider, flamethrower, and that sound device) Each one gives you an additional accessory slot, then the very last one increases the amount of goods like this that you can carry. Since this is 2 weeks ago, I am sure you have figured it out, or won't see this. But maybe it could help someone that asks the same question later.

No, it's just handgun critical... it does more damage than a regular crit at the cost of wasting a sub weapon space. You can just use a martial art that does crits for the same damage upgrade. Handgun is trash, shuriken ftw

This is one of these least meta builds ive ever seen.
I dont get peoples problem games easy asf once you level up if your getting 2 shot your low level simple as that as for parry i feel most is ok just a few grabs that are dodge asf to counter at times but ive just started midnight i instantly did lord li battle solo and won so its a skill issue get good practice all it is
This game is hard as hell on midnight, i'm level 95 and am not going to lie to people, you still die a lot in this game, even at 100, don't let idiots tell you it's a sill issue.

No use of shuriken, constant spam of the same combo, super reliant on items....constantly dying and no actual good looking combo and style.. 1/10
