    Nice video. I'm here in 2024 and am soon going to tackle the same job (coils too) on my XC90 V8 Sport. My Yukon was a lot more challenging than this looks to be (mostly the passenger side rear ones). Thanks for sharing!

    Removal of the upper engine mount cross bar helped a ton for the rear cylinder bank. Doing the front bank first to get a feel for the process and then the rears was also super helpful. The video coverage was really thorough too, great job and thanks a ton!!

    Anyone every done the timing cover? I have a leak on the support bearing for the passenger side axle (dripping down on it) and I suspect that is the cause given that others have reported it leaking. I have yet to find a good write up on it. Mine has 213K miles.

    • @A_Renaissance_Man
      @A_Renaissance_Man  Год назад +1

      My decision is in.
      I chose a B6 XC90 Ultimate over the V8 R-Design and I am very happy with the 4 Cylinder so far.
      I get about 4 MPG more all around and the power is ridiculous.
      The last trip was 28.2 MPG
      I can get into the Ticket Zone quite fast and merging on the Interstate is seamless with that kind of power.

    • @A_Renaissance_Man
      @A_Renaissance_Man  3 года назад +1

      Well ... Unfortunately there are at least ten gounds that attach to the engine. If there is a stumble issue, I have seen plugs that were not installed all the way even though the owner said he torqued them down. Also, could be a bad coil which you could see what cylinder is acting up and switch coils with one that is not. That is about I can think of without looking at it directly myself. Good luck I hope you figure it out.

    why do these volvos have rough starts with low oil pressure warnings ⚠️ ?

    • @A_Renaissance_Man
      @A_Renaissance_Man  2 года назад

      That sounds like a problem.
      My Volvos fire right up.
      There are two oil warnings.
      One is low oil LEVEL and the other is low oil pressure. The bad one, low pressure also has the oil can red light on the dash. Low oil level comes one when the level falls below 1/2 quart (1 liter) from full and is really an early warning and not a danger warning like the low pressure warning.

    what material of spark plug do you recommend for cold weather on the s80 or weather doesnt matter? kinda confusing since theres copper, platinum, iridium and ruthenium

    • @A_Renaissance_Man
      @A_Renaissance_Man  3 года назад +2

      Thank you for asking. For spark plugs I have learned several valuable lessons with respect to Volvos and cars in general, especially Toyotas.
      I highly recommend you go to an official Volvo parts web site, there are always at least two sites that are up, and look up your car and buy a pack from there. They will be Ford or NGK depending on when your vehicle was manufactured. If you insist on aftermarket the the owner's manual should guide you to a specific brand and spark plug number. The Volvo web site is competitive on price but S&H charges typically make the cost about the same a buying locally.
      Please do not go for anything other than what is stated in the owners manual. Too many times shops will pull them when they figure out that the plugs are a part of some mysterious future problem that pops up.
      With the V8, be certain that the plugs were installed correctly as the shop I deal with says they have found loose plugs installed by customers or independent shops.
      P.S. U.S. dealers take turns selling parts out of Volvo's warehouse and you might notice that if you buy parts over time.

    • @A_Renaissance_Man
      @A_Renaissance_Man  5 лет назад +2

      Well... I am a bit bias as I like V8 engines. For the Yamaha V8 found in these Volvos, I have had and know of no issues. The only work done was not related to the engine itself but rather the surrounding items; the AC compressor, one of the O2 sensors, the transaxile splines, and that is it. The engine starts and runs and the power is really fun to feel when you really need to accelerate. Good Luck with your shopping and purchase.

      Well ... If you look in the owners manual, spark plug maintenance and type are not listed. I changed these since this was a used vehicle and I was going for a base line. Most of the other Volvos that I owned said 120,000 mi (193000 km) and when I changed them they were fine. If gas mileage stays the same and the engine does not throw a code then I usually let them go.
