  • Spontaneous reaction to the songs / musical pieces "Day 1 - Vigil" and "Day 2 - Isolation" from the album "Ayreon - The Human Equation"" in two versions (Lyrics video and the official live video ). The whole album will be covered : 1 hour and 40 minutes of music, divided in block of 10-13 minutes. Ten videos / ten weeks in the music of this exceptional artist.
    According to Wikipedia, "Ayreon is a musical project by Dutch songwriter, singer, musician and record producer Arjen Anthony Lucassen. Ayreon's music is described as progressive rock, progressive metal and power metal sometimes combined with genres such as folk, electronica, experimental and classical music. The majority of Ayreon's albums are dubbed "rock operas" (or "metal operas") because the albums contain complex storylines featuring a host of characters, usually with each one being represented by a unique vocalist."

      Are you really Arjen? Really?
      I am the one to be honoured! Just to let you know : I have been SO MUCH asked from everywhere to go through your work. I began modestly - still do - this little channel to explain some difficult songs to my cousin and godchild (young men)... I have a past of rock musician, you see. And the fans from the Netherlands were the first outside Canada to visit my channel (Within Temptation, Nightwish, Stratovarius, etc.) and to ask me to make subtitles. 2 years later, I have more than 5000 subscribers, something I never expected... I have recorded yesterday my video on Day 3 and Day 4 and I am THRILLED by your work / music until now. Feel free to comment if I make any mistake, or mislead anyone. Like I say regularly : I don't want to be right, I want to understand... and appreciate! Come anytime!

      @@GuylainPrince Yes Sir, our Arjen is such amazing and ultra talented 'human'...now that god's world is tested and tested over again, there are these amazing warm and free spirits, like our Floor and Arjen, Anneke, Sharon, Irene Jansen and Simone. They are unique human beings and such perfectionists when it comes down to three double layered music making, their followers are so much positively infected by all this.
      This is a very welcome development...right in the heart of these hard times.

    Oh this was great! I love how genuinely excited you came across. I wanted to give you some background info on the live performance. Before this, Arien didn't think an Ayreon live concert would be viable, so when he was approached about the theater equation performance he gave his blessing but was only involved as a support advisor. It's success was what made him decide to go forward with his Ayreon universe concert in 2018. But anyways, back to "The Theater Equation," some of the casting choices are different from the album based on who was available and interested. The best friend is played by Jermain "Wudstik" van der Bogt, Fear is played by a woman named Anneke van Giersbergen, and two characters you haven't met yet so I won't spoil you on their identities are played by a man named Mike Mills. I look forward to seeing your journey through this album and the mystery it presents!

    Thanks for the nice text analysis. the woman who plays fear in the live video is the reason that Floor Jansen and the rest of the dutch have female metal singers. Anneke van Giersbergen is the first female metal singer in the Netherlands. The Gathering, of which Anneke was the lead singer, also has great lyrics, especially Leafs and Travel.

    The image of the car… never thought of this.
    This one really stand sout of Arjen‘s works, as all the other are more science fiction. I really love that album. Well fell in love with Ayreon when The Electric Castle came out over 20 years ago. I‘ve also been at the show. The videos of the show don’t really translate the emotions of the actual live show. Still getting goosies when the choir kicks in. A few meters away Floor ws sitting in the audience. She was singing every word of her sister on stage.

    Welcome to Ayreon's universe!
    I really appreciate your efforts to dive deeper into the meaning behind Arjen's masterpiece. It is a massive undertaking, as (nearly) all the albums tie into the same story (I haven't explored the Transitus album yet, so I can't be sure).
    I have listened to his works for decades now, and I have noticed that there are always more layers to be discovered. As I have experienced more of life and grown my perspective (partly thanks to Arjen) I have noticed that I pick up on different ideas that previously went over my head.
    This is the greatest Sci Fi audiobook series ever made (so far). The story should spread far and wide, to hopefully aid in humanity having a long and prosperous future.
    And then there is the music, it truly paints a landscape that Arjen allows you to wander around in. There is so much to "see", it'll keep you coming back to find something new.
    Hence why I am here, exploring and growing my perspective once again.

    The album explores the idea of psychological rebirth, and follows the story of a man who, after falling into a coma following a car accident, is confronted with his past, his emotions, and his current situation as he lays trapped inside his own mind. The circumstances surrounding the accident are mysterious, as the man ("Me", portrayed by James LaBrie) ploughed into a tree on a deserted road in broad daylight. Following this, he slips into a twenty-day coma, with each day represented by a single song. Each song follows a slightly different format, though there are major common themes, such as the presence of Me's manifest emotions in his dream world including Fear (Mikael Åkerfeldt), Reason (Eric Clayton), and Pride (Magnus Ekwall); the presence of Me's Wife (Marcela Bovio) Best Friend (Arjen Anthony Lucassen) at his bedside; and the past events that Me is forced to reflect on.

    Great reaction, loved your passion for it! The keyboardist is Joost van de Broek. Joost made music for the king and queen of the Netherlands and has been knighted. He was the keyboardist of 'After Forever', (btw. the last live video wasn't Joost), Floor Jansen (Irene is her sister) her fist band as well. I personally have a gnostic view on the divine, although my upbringing was strict Calvinistic, but I think it doesn't matter what you believe, as long as you try your best to live life as good as possible under the circomstances and as long as you know that everybody makes mistakes.

    When you're planning for the next track, Day 3: Pain, you could mix it up with respect to the live performances (unless you want to carry on with more footage from the Day 2 live video concert). My favorite live performance of Pain is from a side project he formed with the "wife" singer Marcela Bovio called Stream of Passion. In this live clip they are joined by Marcela's sister Diana Bovio for some epic harmonies:
    ruclips.net/video/nmafXuCn2t4/видео.html
    While the sound is excellent, probably straight from the mixing board, the video itself is a bit dark. Could use a little brightness adjustment.

      For each song, I will look what exists and I listen to each 5 seconds: the quality of the sound and of the image and, basta! I download. Nice and easy. Here and there, I made mistakes, but generally speaking, I made good choice. If there are many possibilities, I try to get the best.

    Airy yawn.
    Finally someone reacting to The Human Equation and not the same old The Day that The World Breaks Down reaction.
    The Human Equation is a gem even among Ayreon albums. Arjen really shines as a storyteller here. His vocal choices are perfect. They fit their characters like nobody else could(As we can hear in live shows, where Fear was replaced. As good as she is, she is not Mikael.).
    And the meaning of the album is just one more reason to love it.
    Also, Ayreon is a blind minstrel from the times of King Arthur. See the Ayreon - Final Experiment (strange name for the first album of the project, by the way) album for details.
    Edit:
    As French is probably your first language, you may be unfamiliar with some idioms. To clear the air means to come forward with your reasons for resentment, be completely frank about them, and try to end an argument by doing so. To cease hostilities and mind games, and simply put your problems forward honestly and openly. To attempt to make the other side in a fight understand your point of view.
    Edit 2:
    I do hope you hear all the songs in the studio version first, as the composer intended them. Live versions are more natural, but less polished without a chance for retakes.
    And as a last comment, I can't wait to see you analyse this album. Especially the grand finale. I think you'll get a laugh out of the last line Fear utters on the album. No spoiling the surprise, but it is a brilliant choice from Arjen, if you ask me.

    • @GuylainPrince
      @GuylainPrince  2 года назад

      I understand your understanding of the expression "clear the air". There is a close equivalent in French. And it makes sens. Haw would you connect the meaning you bring with the phrases around ans the "leaving of the angry car"? I wonder what is your understanding, then? Anyways : thanks for your nice comments. I was directed, for the choice, by François Bérubé, René Jansen and Dan Villeneuve.

    • @LongandWeirdName
      @LongandWeirdName 2 года назад

      I do not want to give away specific plot points in the story, as you have the right to experience it as it develops, the way Arjen wanted it to be experienced, but let's just say I interpret when Wife sings "won't you try to clear the air" to Best Friend as "You look like you feel you're to blame for his state or like you were resentful towards him for some reason. Maybe you should tell him what weighs heavily on your heart. It will ease your heart to release the burden and if what they say about people in comas hearing the outside world is right, it might help him understand certain things as well.". I cannot say more, as it would hint at certain interpretations and plot points in the story, which I won't do. Arjen really made this one wonderful.
      On a personal note, listening to some of the Ayreon albums as well as some concept albums by some of the guest stars have changed the way I see and treat the world and this one was a big influence. My ex-partner, a love who is now gone from my life, said "I think I understand you a bit better now that I've listened to this." after hearing The Human Equation for the first time. It was a life changing experience and I don't want to rob you of it.
      Would you interpret Love, the strongest of the emotions, as God? I mean... The saying is "God is love", but is the character called Love a sort of representation of God in your opinion? She is there for him when he is deserted by everyone. She is supportive, when everyone mocks him and attacks him. She is "dancing to his tune", meaning she understands how he perceives the world and understands why he does what he does.

    • @GuylainPrince
      @GuylainPrince  2 года назад

      For this interpretation, I will wait. But, "when you are alone you are not" points in that direction. Not as an exclusive interpretation, but as a possible one.

    There are more good ideas on this album than most bands dream up in a career. It has some weakness though at least for me. Some of the musical passages don't link well together and you sometimes get the feeling that bits of songs were stuck together to make a whole but that is Arjen style on most of his albums and sometimes it works other times not. James LaBrie while a big name catch really doesn't fit. On the plus side the always awesome Ed Warbey doesn't put a foot wrong on the drums. This guy is on most of Arjen albums and is among the best drummers in the world. Heather Findlay (you should check her out with Mostly autumn) and Marcella Bovio are fantastic beautiful voices. One of the highlights of the Ayreon albums is always the female singers.
