I test drove both, and bought 2017 WRX. STI is way better in every aspect, but for me, for my needs -WRX is better choice: 1. MPG is amazing for awd car. And I drive a lot! In city i get 25, on freeway I get 31-33!!! Love it! 2. Power - it is there when i need it even on the stock tune! Power delivery for daily driving is outstanding in my opinion. 3. Insurance - i pay less, that I will pay for STI, I got two quotes before I bought the car. The final price out the door for 2017 wrx premium which was on memorial day sale event with full all arround weather package and sunroof and sti short throw stick shift was 28k So I am happy WRX driver.. maybe in 3 years I will get new STI.... will see :)
I have a 15 STi, and I do think it's a better car than the WRX - DCCT, Brembo, suspension, power delivery. However, your reasoning are VERY legit and makes me think twice about if I should have gotten a WRX haha!
you're full of shit $28k otd. do you know otd means after taxes? nobody believes you paid $26k PLUS TAX for a premium with add ons. either that or you can't do math lmao.
yes, my previous car was paid off. I always try to pay off car as soon as possible, and the dealer went down in price. In 3 years, maybe I will get STI if Subaru will come up with different engine and body style... we'll see :)
Ultimate Warrior Nice. I’d honestly love the FA rather than the EJ in the newer gen but only time can tell. Hopefully Subaru adds an FA motor that is bigger in the 2022.
Cobb Stage 1+ fixes the WRX stock powerband issue. The STI is a great car but I bought the WRX for the FA20DIT and after 20,000 miles I am not disappointed.
Va Vo I think so, I just wish CARB wasn't so strict so I could get some high flow UEL catted headers with a tune to make sure my emissions are legal. I can't even do that because taking the catalytic converter off is illegal here in Cali, but I know that before I was alive smog was a thing and it isn't anymore
Great and honest review. When thinking WRX and STI dna, I always thing of the old Top Gear Africa special where May drives in a Volvo sports wagon, Clarkson is in a Beemer with stiff suspension, and Hammond is driving an 02 WRX wagon. Where the two others constantly struggle with poor road conditions, bumps, speed humps, mud and gravel etc, the WRX just flies over it all due to its awd system and its rally derived suspension. It is not made for eating up smooth track corners, it's meant to tackle the worst of roads while inspiring confidence and always putting down good and reliable power. To me, that is the essence of the WRX/STI, and that saddens me because that is a big part they changed for the 15 STI and onwards. I would much prefer the older generations for their softer and more crude suspension setup where you sort of wrestle the car around bumpy corners instead of trying to pinpoint it around a track at weekends. The old ones scream adventure and fun, new one feels like it is taking everything a bit too serious. Probably the only thing I would want from the new models is the interior (not that interior is the selling point for me in an STI anyways).
billyclub Hey man I'm 6'5", you'll fit with the sunroof, its just nice to not have it and get a little more wiggle room! Are you going WRX or STI? You can get the base STI with a package that includes keyless access/HK stereo/Nav. But I don't know how that stuff changes for canada?
billyclub Are you in canada? Can you get a base model with the package i mentioned or do you have to get the sunroof? My hair was just grazing the headliner in the sunroof car I have a couple inches on you, you'd probably be ok.
billyclub Boooo, in the US we get the "base" and the "Limited" models. Limited has basically everything and full leather interior. Base has leather/alcantara and then you can choose the keyless start and access/nav/HK package but it doesnt include the sunroof. It was perfect for me! I wanted the alcantara too!
Great video and great unbiased comparison. I had owned a 2015 wrx and traded it for 2016 sti. Both are great cars that are intended for different buyers. I loved the wrx fa motor. Low end grunt, great gas mileage, and very cheap for what you get (base model that is.) But the things i didnt like about it such as weak-ish brakes, the tune falls on its face on top end, shifter feel, and the small wheels and a few other little things. By the time and money I would have spent to upgrade the car to what I want in it. I would have been close or at the price of a new sti and possibly had warranty issues from a new tune and such. So it was easier to decide to trade in for the sti. Only down side is marginal gas mileage and premium fuel.
It was a pretty tough decision to pass on the STI launch edition sitting in the show room at Sheehy. The STI had the transmission and the LSD which I wanted more then anything, but the engine in the new WRX just felt and looked like it would be the better deal. Besides, I wanted to have fun tinkering with a car more then anything and I felt like other then a few power mods the STI is more or less track ready out of the box. Either car you will be happy with. 2015 WRX mods so far to the car -Perrin Shifter Bushing -Perrin Shifter Stop -Cobb access Port v3 -Cobb J-pipe resonated -Cobb Big SF Intake -Racecomp engineering "yellow" springs -Front Brembo GT 326mm Big brake kit with SS lines -Kosei K4R wheels (17x8) 14.8 pounds each
Having gone from a 15'wrx to a 16' sti I will say 100% I feel more confident driving much faster and pushing the car hard, I trust it more and I feel more connected to it than I ever did in the wrx. I love it. No engine probs at all (ringland blah blah blah)
STI is way pricier. Everyone deep down wants an STI, its obviously more powerful and upgraded version of WRX. if you can afford both theres no reason to buy the WRX
Also some people want to drive an Automatic Transmission as opposed to a Manual Transmission. The reasons can be various (i.e, some people have difficulty driving a Manual Transmission.
The STI is slowly turning into a street car and becoming less practical on driving it off road which was what it was originally known for. Which is why they should make two verisons of the STI. They should make one called the STIr (rally) for the off road focused one and STIs (street) or STIt (track) for more street focused ones. Or offer the customers ride height adjustments, free of charge.
WRX stands for world rally xperimental it is the rally version, that’s why it has better low end power and only 5 gears, sti is the street version. At least that’s how I see it, you don’t need those high speeds in back roads that’s highway stuff
I purchased the MY17 WRX about a month ago and yes with the CVT, I absolutely love it. Most of my driving is in heavy traffic to work so the cvt is perfect for not having to change gears all the time and use a clutch continually. On the weekends the rexy is just as rewarding if your drive it in Sports sharp mode with the paddles. In Australia we have had the wrx since the mid 90's and it has a cult following and ownership here. I guess it all depends where you are, road quality and everyday liveability with the car. Great video by the way, Kudos.
great review! love how you guys present both sides of the argument for both cars...so tired of people telling me I should buy one car or the other based on THEIR biases...I drove both and made my own decision...STi was for me...I love the rawness all the time...plus it's not even that raw...my R56 MINI S was much harsher than the STi! LOL
These two cars really aren't competitors the STI wins in every category race wise, but some people might not want a full blown race car or can't really afford it at the time. The wrx is a better choice for me at this point in my life. Glad you liked the vid.
Just bought my 2017 STI! After all of the research I did and after driving both cars, I decided the WRX was much more practical for my needs. But I wanted the STI. Purely a decision based off of emotion rather than logic; I felt like I would have more fun in the STI. I would've been happy with either car!
@@jwake4803 well look out for ur clutch peddle making a weird chirp noise cause mine did it about 8 months ago didn’t find anything on it and it stopped about 5 months ago so I thought I can’t find nothing and left it so the other day I started my car to warm it up and the clutch pedal didn’t come back up I looked it up and its the clutch master cylinder and it had some fluid underneath so when I looked up the clutch master cylinder going that chirping squealing noise it masks before they go and it seems they go often
I'm glad you guys hit on the point about how the cars are seemingly built for two different purposes as opposed to one being "better" than the other. I love my STI and it's crazy fast; WAY faster than my skill level, but I love the STI's intensity and raw, sports car feel. I drove my cousin's daily driver WRX before buying my STI and while it was fast, it was too soft for me. I felt like I wanted something more visceral. The STI delivers in droves. However, I commute 10 hours a week in traffic so I only drive mine on the weekends. I don't think I could handle it every day.
I'll just stick with my '06 WRX Hawkeye. With just a couple of safe bolt-ons it has all the power a DD needs. Best car I ever owned. 1. Cobb SF intake 2. Cobb turbo inlet 3. Cobb 3in tbe 4. Cobb AP v3...stage 2, 93oct flash 5. STI tmic w/ foggers
The steering, handling, braking, and transmission is alot more tactile in the STI. I'm also familiar with EJs so it felt like home over the FA in the WRX. I don't normally get the latest and greatest tech in cars until all the bugs are worked out. I've learned that the main problem with EJs for the last 26 years have been the owners. Last, I had the money to buy an STI. Not gonna lie.
My first time seeing a video from you guys. I like the quality, and I love the concept of interviewing the owners to get their view in the same cinematic way. That makes it way more personal, and gives four perspectives over the typical two. My only wish would be for the music to be turned down just a little. Not certain if any of these things were specific to this video, but overall it's a great recipe!
Solid review of the similarities and contrasts of these two cars. Great watch and definitely will recommend to people who are on the fence as to which to get.
I have a hard time justifying the $10k price difference. Why not get the wrx and slap on coilovers, bolt ons, wheels, and a tune. Then you have a car as pretty as the sti, fast as the sti, but still costs less. I've played with that center diff controller on the sti and I think it's a stupid add on to try and sell the car. I owned a 03 evo. I could toss that car sideways all day long. You don't need electronics if you know how to properly push a car to it's limits.
I said 03. The only electronic assist on there was the snow, gravel modes. 05 MR was when they started adding everything. Unless you live in Europe or Japan in which case they had everything all along.
casiotechI haha I don't think you have driven either one of these cars. STI transmission is fucking bulletproof man, do some research and the STI tranny 6speed is way better than any Honda or wrx. I've driven all of them. Not to mention the STI handles way better as well and don't comment saying it does 0to 60 faster because I've never been beat even when I was stock in my STI against another wrx. I've seen 4.6 0 to 60 for the STI and 5.5 for the wrx and I've also seen those numbers flipped the other way around. I don't care what a bullshit car review from 2 gay guys say. If you want to play that game, directly from Subaru.com states that STI handles better and is superior in every way minus mpg. I care about real world events and not a piece of paper. 9 times out of 10, put any wrx against an STI stock for stock and the STI will dominate. Wrx may respond better to basic bolt ons but build both engines and dump loads of money into them and the STI will have a better end result. I've seen many 1400 hp STIs how many fa20s have you seen pushing 1400??? And on the brakes, the wrx is garbage compared to the sti. Larger rotors and 4piston front dual piston rear brembo brakes and they both have the same electronic brake distribution.
casiotechI and the Dccd works amazingly so that was another dumb comment. How do you explain Subaru doing so well during their past wrc events. I will tell you, because it's a beast of a car and has more Heritage and backing behind it than the wrx. Why do you think the STI is still setting records to this day. You clearly have no clue. I don't care what you think, ive driven 4 different 2015/16 wrx and all of them felt like they had a sponge in the shifter. The STI feels way more solid and the shifts provide a great feedback in the fact that you actually feel it lock into the gear. There are STIs out there with over 6to700 hp on the stock trans. Hell many of them are videos on here. So stop basing all of you comments off of your personal opinion and actual go drive these cars and read about other people's experiences and professional views.

They are chalk and cheese. I test drove both before buying an STi. The summary you give is absolutely spot on, if you're after a drivers car then it has to be STi if you want a car purely for commuting and high mileage get the WRX. But good luck keeping up with me on a twisty road :)
The slight boost in power with the STI is not worth the 13 mpg drop. Plus the STI doesn't hit its peak torque until 4000 RPM in contrast to the WRX that hits its peak torque at 2000.
its a different feel when you drive it, peak torque at 2000 sounds good, but feels like shit, but peak torque at 4000 feels like more power is being built up
This is my first ever manual car. Bought the 2018 base WRX and took it off the showroom floor never driving a stick. After 3 weeks I was already heel-toe. Now I'll just tune it to get whatever I'm missing in the STi with the updated engine. Best car I've ever owned and will never drive automatic again. Subaru 4life.
The STI is a 6 speed manual with more power and better handling. If you are buying a car to have "fun", i don't think the WRX is as good. Saying the WRX is a more fun car than its faster higher end counter part is like saying that mcdonalds is better than your grandma's cooking because its more practical.... sure it might be more practical... but its not better.
I was a bit iffy about finding out how to change the time in my car. Nearly took it to a car shop or the dealership but I took a quick glance here to find out how easy it is! Definitely give this technique a 1000000000000/5!
I was talking to a guy at the dealership the other day, and they said it was to bring more attention to the Impreza hatch now that theyre marketing the WRX and STI as a seperate car from the Impreza line. =\ I think they should bring it back though.
I'd buy a new Impreza hatch to replace my 13 WRX hatch if Subaru would offer at minimum 200hp via the 2 liter FA from the BRZ. The new Impreza hatch I drove was nice...and much too anemic for me.
Very good comparison. I have both and thoroughly enjoy the WRX more abound town. All it needs is the better steering ratio like the Sti and it’ll be my favorite. The Sti still reigns superior for the long haul.
Love my 02 wrx and have been thinking of getting a new, so I like these kind of comparison videos. But I may just wait for the sti to get an updated engine.
last night i came home buzzed up and i thought for a second i was losing my mind. lol. loved the comparison. i considered the wrx but i knew i'd regret my decision. i came from a lightly modded evo so i was already conditioned for the rougher ride. i swear, i think my 16 sti is as rough as my evo was with lowering springs and upgraded rear sway.
STI looks too 'boy racer' silly with the huge wing on the back. The WRX is a bit more understated and not screaming "Look at me" I would go for the WRX Premium and just get a tune.
Thank you! At least you guys get that each car a different core audience lol. My only correction for yall is this is the best sti to ever come stateside.... We who purchase from the jdm market have always enjoyed better subaru's with quick racks, twin scroll turbos and other jdm sorcery (forged motors). Good video though.
Great vid guys! All the reasons provided of why one would buy a WRX or STi is well thought out and logical! Ever since 2002, I have been a HUGE fan of both WRX models. Can't remember when the first STi model was introduced... WRX 4LIFE!!! My ears always perk up when I hear one driving by. LOL!
Many people assume the sti to be better than the wrx and it really isn't. Their both great cars that have pros that the other doesn't. They're just for 2 different consumers. I think you mentioned this in the video but just wanted to reiterate
Great video guys. I have a 2017 base model wrx I really love it. I put OEM fog lights on and a vortex generator. After I pay this WRX off Im definitely get the STI. I have to wait and see what the new WRX and STI look like and what specs are going to impress me. Take care and stay safe brothers. Subies forever guys.
A simple tune on the fa20 gets rid of the high end drop and destroys the sti in power without changing any components. It also gets rid of the annoying rev hang on the stock tune and makes the car even more comfortable to drive around town. I'm not bashing the sti in any way as it's a great car with great stock performance. My point to help any consumer is it costs less for a pro tune than the price difference between the cars. But then you don't get the diff adjustments, better brakes, just some things I thought of while watching the video ;)
+PatsNation they stopped production on the Supra and the NSX because the companies couldn't improve on them anymore (the tech wasn't there at the time). Mitsubishi stopped production of all performance vehicles and parts because they lost interest in the performance scene as a whole... You see in order for car companies to keep interest in a product they actually have to sell the product...
Like most say, "Drive both and see which you like more" is a major decision maker. Sadly I had a limit on my budget and was at the peak of it when I bought my 2017 WRX Limited. Being new to Subaru's and never driving or stepping in one. I was impressed even with the WRX. I obviously would've loved to have that STI. Maybe after my lease I may get one or buy out mine. For now, the WRX is surely a nice car to drive around with and I would recommend. I 'm mainly waiting to see how they take on the winter with being in NY since I've only had FWD, RWD, and 4WD vehicles.
Mike Hundredson thank you someone finally gets it! I was going to get an STi but didn’t want to stay stock until the full warranty was up. So I gambled and got the WRX spent like $3000 in mods and it’s a BEAST. Only 7k miles in lol sorry warranty.
subie. ja I’m picking up a 16 WRX in a couple days. Glad to see that’s your take on the car. Mind if I ask what mods you did and what effect they had power wise and such?
Faraz Talebi of course man! So the first mod I did was -get an access port! I got one cheap on Instagram went stage one and it makes a world difference as far as the power band goes on these cars. People say oh there’s boost that dies off after 4000 rpms that’s because they don’t have an access port. -Invidia r400 catback sounds the best to me hands down. Also found used in mint condition on Craig’s list for $650 it has the burnt tips so that was a steal lol Next thing I did was prepare for a real tune this required me to invest in -TGV deletes/grim speed EBCS/dw300c series fuel pump/Cobb flexfuel kit. Now this was pricey. $1700 with all parts and a tune from my buddy, tuned on 91oct and e85. Power wise I’m at 350whp/360wtp and that’s plenty for a clean daily. I was told that he could tune me up better and more safe going ethanol rather than your usual Stage 2 bolt ons. Stock intake and stock j pipe still and runs better and faster than a Stage 2 sooo 🤷🏻♂️🤙🏼 anyways the last couple things I have had installed recently and highly recommend are some supporting mods such as -a catch can or AOS -a pitch mount stop -Perrin shift stop + bushing -weighted shift knob So far the cars awesome good luck with the direction you take cheers 🍻
I went with the WRX as I daily the car. I know I can build the power I need with aftermarket parts so I’m not worried that it lacks it. I’ve done a lot of research with these cars and the main thing you need to keep in mind and keep up with is MAINTENANCE! Oh and make sure to get a proper tune. So whether you chose the WRX or the STI , both cars are great! just depends on what your needs.
I bought a base 16 wrx for less than $27,000, $2,000 worth of mods and I'll have a "sleeper" sti that still gets better gas mileage. I know about the brakes, trans, dccd, etc, but I don't need all of that. Just a little more power mainly to fix that awful stock tune
@@NetomaMusic Or you could get unequal headers on a WRX and get a similar effect, it's still a boxer engine. However, I wouldn't want to lose the benefits of equal headers just for that iconic rumble, as good as it sounds.
ReyXtractor, they're fine as daily drivers man, I have an 07 modded and drive it everyday to work. as long as you don't drive like a douche bag all day you will be just fine.
James Ortiz I have a 16 sti and I commute about 40 miles each way to D.C. for work every day with a smile on my face. My 4 year old loves riding in it too. Both good cars but I love my sti
Great video. Perfect explanation of both cars being intended for different usages. They both do well in the Motorsport realm too, all that's needed is a good driver
2015-2017: STi- hydraulic power steering and real 6MT with direct shifter linkage. WRX- electric power steering and sudo 6MT....5MT with 6th gear installed with cable shifter linkage. My vote every day for the next forever is STi. The better choice if you want to keep the car. The WRX is the prefect car to lease and get a feel for a turbo subaru, then buy an STi in the end. So STi wins IMO
It's not which one is better. Everyone wants a STI. It's just wether or not you can afford it. If not you get the WRX and wish you had a STI. Either way you will be happy.
I’m picking up my WRX next Saturday. I like the STI but my 2017 c63 AMG S is what I’ll drive if i want to go fast. The WRX is just a fun car to drive and a more practical daily than the STI. If i didn’t have the AMG i would definitely buy the STI.
mark yes, I absolutely can. I didn't want an EJ powered STI. I bought the WRX as a family sedan, not a track toy. I have more money in parts on ONE track car than the entire purchase of a brand new STI. Don't worry yourself over what I can and cannot afford. The STI is a $40,000 Subaru. Not a hypercar. It's easily affordable and obtainable. When Subaru puts an FA into the STI I'll buy another one...
What a stupid comment that is I can afford anything below 50k and would still take the wrx over the sti all day everyday as long as I'm paying 10k less for the wrx I will dump the 10k into the wrx on things I "need" in the car not something I don't like a big ass wing on the back of my car.
Honestly, just buy the one you want. Who cares what anyone else thinks, as long as it makes you happy

No way dude, I need the approval of random strangers I will never see again. You don't know what you are talking about.
Why was it impractical? What did you get afterwards? Thanks
You said it !
Amen brother! Blessings coming your way!

Sounds about right in why i got my 2016 wrx.
I have a 15 STi, and I do think it's a better car than the WRX - DCCT, Brembo, suspension, power delivery.
However, your reasoning are VERY legit and makes me think twice about if I should have gotten a WRX haha!
you're full of shit $28k otd. do you know otd means after taxes? nobody believes you paid $26k PLUS TAX for a premium with add ons. either that or you can't do math lmao.

no way. this gen will last well into 2020 and then MAYBE we'll see a hybrid STi.
Sorry for the audio issues on the last upload guys, this one should be all fixed! Hope you enjoy it!
oh snap I thought it was my trash phone, then o couldn't find the vid and I was like the hell? but anyways nice work as always.
Lol
Just upgraded to a 2020 STI from a 2011 Nissan Sentra :')
Love the subaru fam
Hopefully they dont upgrade the sti to the ascent fa24 engine soon in your case. I guess you could still trade in your 2020 regardless
@@eflem7708 I bought a 2020 sti being well aware the new generation could have a new, fuel economy, probably better engine. But I wanted the EJ motor.
Ultimate Warrior
Nice. I’d honestly love the FA rather than the EJ in the newer gen but only time can tell. Hopefully Subaru adds an FA motor that is bigger in the 2022.
Welcome and thank you for making the move.
Welcome to the family
2022 and went back to this old video, mesmerized by the way the cinematography changed.
Tbh that guy made his entrance with his wrx , poppin' out of his car like a boss 😃
🤣
Love the WRX! Own one myself. It's only been a year but Ive done 30,000km in my first year.. I love every moment. I drive it as my daily
It's all preferences. I own an STi and my friend own a WRX. Buy what you love.
Brandon Houn Or what you can afford 😪
AGREED!
Honestly before 15 the only reason to buy an STI was for a 6-speed. Now it doesn't even matter.
Having had both my answer like from other ones before is: 𝙉𝙤, the STI is better, more fun to drive by far.
Cobb Stage 1+ fixes the WRX stock powerband issue. The STI is a great car but I bought the WRX for the FA20DIT and after 20,000 miles I am not disappointed.
everyone who has a brz/frs knows about that damn dip in power around 3500rpm lol
Berenger Christy Sad that a "performance" focused car would be nerfed like that.
Va Vo the only reason it's there is because of emissions. get a catless header and a tune and that dip is gone
Berenger Christy I think that emissions requirements are a good thing. We all need to breathe clean air right?

I'll go for the WRX, cheaper, gas saver, daily driver friendly and still powerful, then, a week later will be regretting not buying the STI lol...
Lol me recently 🤦🏽♂️

Can someone please pull the plug?!
Same tho
It sounds like what a 17 year old with a drug problem believes is good music.
@@arbitraryalias9825 Why you gotta hate? It's the right music for the scenes
@@Splomf not really. Not in my scene. Id rather hear a clear voice and natural noise. That racket back there is like a trash night club at 2am.

2015 WRX mods so far to the car
-Perrin Shifter Bushing
-Perrin Shifter Stop
-Cobb access Port v3
-Cobb J-pipe resonated
-Cobb Big SF Intake
-Racecomp engineering "yellow" springs
-Front Brembo GT 326mm Big brake kit with SS lines
-Kosei K4R wheels (17x8) 14.8 pounds each
Having gone from a 15'wrx to a 16' sti I will say 100% I feel more confident driving much faster and pushing the car hard, I trust it more and I feel more connected to it than I ever did in the wrx. I love it. No engine probs at all (ringland blah blah blah)
STI is way pricier. Everyone deep down wants an STI, its obviously more powerful and upgraded version of WRX. if you can afford both theres no reason to buy the WRX
Numan Gun Not really.. some people don't necessarily want the power all the time. That's why the WRX is a good choice.
Also some people want to drive an Automatic Transmission as opposed to a Manual Transmission. The reasons can be various (i.e, some people have difficulty driving a Manual Transmission.
Only like 20% wrx sales are autotragic
kenmastersmaster That high?
I'm glad that Subaru hasn't fallen plague to the Auto's. So many car companies are going with the unreliable dual clutch.
I love my 16 STI. Great video !
Rally stages are almost all public roads, bro. I see what you mean, though
WRX stands for world rally xperimental it is the rally version, that’s why it has better low end power and only 5 gears, sti is the street version. At least that’s how I see it, you don’t need those high speeds in back roads that’s highway stuff
Freddie Salazar I thought it was world rally cross
tjlovesrachel shut you might be right but that's what donut media told me 🤷🏻♂️
@@FredoNavajas92 bro, the STI is still a "WRX STI."
Came here and got exactly what I needed to hear. Clear, concise, spot on! Awesome job guys!
Great way to compare these two cars. I was very impressed and I would find myself owning a WRX again. (:
YO THAT CUT IN WHEN HE SAID "OR IS IT?" , i'm dead that was the best thing ever, that super slick pass, im no cameraman but goddamn that was nice
Another good thing about the new engine vs the EJ25 is that you won't blow a head gasket when driving the car normally.
Just bought my 2017 STI! After all of the research I did and after driving both cars, I decided the WRX was much more practical for my needs. But I wanted the STI. Purely a decision based off of emotion rather than logic; I felt like I would have more fun in the STI. I would've been happy with either car!
Yeah mine is stock I just have the limited wingless I just had my clutch master cylinder go getting that put in
@@Ghettofireman80 sweet. After 4 years I'm still in my "honeymoon stage". Great car. Best of luck making yours a beast.
@@jwake4803 well look out for ur clutch peddle making a weird chirp noise cause mine did it about 8 months ago didn’t find anything on it and it stopped about 5 months ago so I thought I can’t find nothing and left it so the other day I started my car to warm it up and the clutch pedal didn’t come back up I looked it up and its the clutch master cylinder and it had some fluid underneath so when I looked up the clutch master cylinder going that chirping squealing noise it masks before they go and it seems they go often
if you plan on doing track days or AutoX then STi
WRX if you want a nice DD
1. Cobb SF intake
2. Cobb turbo inlet
3. Cobb 3in tbe
4. Cobb AP v3...stage 2, 93oct flash
I can't wait to pick up my 2017 WRX...watching these videos isn't helping that wait lol
I have a 2016 STI and I love it. Took it on a road trip once with my mom and even she likes it.
Agreed but the music isn't horrible. I hate it when videos have it so loud it may as well be a music video.
HaHa Too Slow the evo has more electronics controlling the drivetrain than the STI so that comment made no sense.

Plus the STI doesn't hit its peak torque until 4000 RPM in contrast to the WRX that hits its peak torque at 2000.
its a different feel when you drive it, peak torque at 2000 sounds good, but feels like shit, but peak torque at 4000 feels like more power is being built up
OG Fosforito yea he’s in denial. STI all day
The transmission in the STi is so much better, can handle twice the horsepower easily, not the case with the WRX!
Wouldn't trade my 2015 STI for anything, great comparison video.
False, I have an STI and I have fun in it every time I drive it! I feakin love this car!
Definitely give this technique a 1000000000000/5!
whyd they stop doing wrx hatchbacks?!
Brandon Clark I know right I love them
I was talking to a guy at the dealership the other day, and they said it was to bring more attention to the Impreza hatch now that theyre marketing the WRX and STI as a seperate car from the Impreza line. =\ I think they should bring it back though.
I'd buy a new Impreza hatch to replace my 13 WRX hatch if Subaru would offer at minimum 200hp via the 2 liter FA from the BRZ. The new Impreza hatch I drove was nice...and much too anemic for me.
They got a lot of negative feedback about the sti or wrx being a hatchback and Subaru “admitted” there mistake. They wanted to open up a bigger market
Hatchback was ugly in my opinion but I know it’s not the popular opinion
Very good comparison. I have both and thoroughly enjoy the WRX more abound town. All it needs is the better steering ratio like the Sti and it’ll be my favorite. The Sti still reigns superior for the long haul.
So much anger in the comments lol.
One of the best videos on the topic. Great job guys.
ive owned a 2016 wrx and now a 2019 sti, and hands down sti lol.
Is this classic Top Gear? Excellent content. And I’m from NOVA so that’s cool. I love this channel. Thanks guys!
STIs suppose to have big Wang's
Shut up you’re just poor
Thank you! At least you guys get that each car a different core audience lol. My only correction for yall is this is the best sti to ever come stateside.... We who purchase from the jdm market have always enjoyed better subaru's with quick racks, twin scroll turbos and other jdm sorcery (forged motors). Good video though.
just ordered my 2017 STI base yesterday...these are going to be a long 2 months
Nice
Conner Dargi Same here bro. base, white, short throw, and performance exhaust.. November 14th delivery date
Geoff /// M Nelson I got the grey but I'm gonna be getting a nameless cat back lol I don't like how the spt sounds
Conner Dargi I agree it's not the best exhaust but it won't void my warranty, that's why I went with it
Geoff /// M Nelson I'm not too worried about a cat back voiding my warranty. they need to prove the mod broke whatever part that broke
LOL!
All i want is the damn wing from the sti on the wrx
then buy it and get it installed or install yourself
Put a wing on a wrx hatchback 😎
rumble?
That transition to the WRX was awesome editing
Many people assume the sti to be better than the wrx and it really isn't. Their both great cars that have pros that the other doesn't. They're just for 2 different consumers. I think you mentioned this in the video but just wanted to reiterate
Great video guys. I have a 2017 base model wrx I really love it. I put OEM fog lights on and a vortex generator. After I pay this WRX off Im definitely get the STI. I have to wait and see what the new WRX and STI look like and what specs are going to impress me. Take care and stay safe brothers. Subies forever guys.
WRX STi is way better, but i ended up getting the WRX base model. Because STi was a bit too expensive for me lol
Shaneel Nand it’s not base model the wrx daily and track car I have 15 black it not all about power, better gas miles, new motor,
The editing was impressive and the content entertaining. Well done!
No
ayyee wuusup dawg
Watched a ton of other videos that covered this question, you guys definitely answered it best.
I owned 2 STI's, I would choose the WRX any day over the chocolate piston STI
Cool stuff shut up fudge packer
lol I enjoy fudge.
I considered getting a WRX, mostly because I didn't think the STI was worth the extra doe. But I made the even better decision and got an evo lol.
classic lol
Lol definitely the better car 👀
Evo, so great they stopped making them...
I'm sorry whats your point? Supra stopped production, RX7, NSX, S2K, ?? Did you actually think that was a valid point lmfao
Very nice video and very well put though, I really enjoyed it!
if your staying stock go sti, if modding go wrx.
So the first mod I did was
-get an access port!
I got one cheap on Instagram went stage one and it makes a world difference as far as the power band goes on these cars. People say oh there’s boost that dies off after 4000 rpms that’s because they don’t have an access port.
-Invidia r400 catback sounds the best to me hands down. Also found used in mint condition on Craig’s list for $650 it has the burnt tips so that was a steal lol
Next thing I did was prepare for a real tune this required me to invest in
-TGV deletes/grim speed EBCS/dw300c series fuel pump/Cobb flexfuel kit. Stock intake and stock j pipe still and runs better and faster than a Stage 2 sooo 🤷🏻♂️🤙🏼 anyways the last couple things I have had installed recently and highly recommend are some supporting mods such as
-a catch can or AOS
-a pitch mount stop
-Perrin shift stop + bushing
-weighted shift knob
So far the cars awesome good luck with the direction you take cheers 🍻
However, I wouldn't want to lose the benefits of equal headers just for that iconic rumble, as good as it sounds.
i owned a 2011 STI for 3 years...amazing speed and traction but it made me realize that i love naturally aspirated cars better.
Love my 2006 subyyy sti :)
Perfect video in my opinion. Great insight from both you guys and the owners. I think my mind is set. Thanks
nnaaaaah "all I want is 300hp"
Rightt lol he lying to himself
I want 400bhp WRX and call it a day
+SYNCPHAN1OM you better put a bigger turbo on it then lol
+Kiliab Gonzalez how about over 9,000bhp!!!
Tune a base 5.0 Mustang today and get close to 500 whp. And better MPG than the EJ. For about the same price.
Great video. Perfect explanation of both cars being intended for different usages. They both do well in the Motorsport realm too, all that's needed is a good driver
I love the WRX but I also want that wing on the STI
That's why you buy the after market wing! Haha that's what I plan to do when I buy my WRX!!!
Just purchased a 2015 sti and couldn’t be happier
I can't makeup my mind :/ FML!
Great video, lots of great info about both cars. And it's all beautifully shot.
This guy explaining away why he couldn’t afford to get the STi & went with the WRX
Stay Gold true lol
I have my own 2011 WRX. I love it had a blast. Someday I will upgrade to the new one.
The question every broke ass teenager asks... or every adult whose S.O. didn't let them buy the top trim.
2015-2017:
STi- hydraulic power steering and real 6MT with direct shifter linkage.
So STi wins IMO
the fa engine is much better than the ej
zouzou zoro zoro yes
A new 5.0 V8 Mustang engine is more efficient than the EJ and makes 500 hp.
Great comparison video between the wrx and STI!
Effing stop the ear torture music.
Great review! Good music! Love both cars!
Haha o shit it's t-wrx lol :)
I have owned and daily driven both. Finally a truthful review on the topic.
If you're going to buy a Subaru.. put your big boy pants on and get the STi..
what if you just want a bugeye
I don't have 15k
I'm enjoying my Forester XT. I had a 09 WRX. If they made a wagon version...then maybe one day I would consider a STI
No do not get a bugeys, they look horriblez 😄
Fuck wrx. I'm a former subaru mechanic, and the fa20 wrx is a piece of shit!
I saw an sti also this time at this day which just made my day
It's not which one is better. Everyone wants a STI. It's just wether or not you can afford it. If not you get the WRX and wish you had a STI. Either way you will be happy.
Pretty much lol
Not necessarily true. I literally cannot find an STi where I live, even wrx is rare
Wrong. Just bought a WRX. Could have gotten the sti but didn’t want a 10 year old engine.
Solid video guys.
Nice Corollas...Ahhuumm I mean Subaru wrx's...
I’m picking up my WRX next Saturday. I like the STI but my 2017 c63 AMG S is what I’ll drive if i want to go fast. The WRX is just a fun car to drive and a more practical daily than the STI. If i didn’t have the AMG i would definitely buy the STI.
Wrx is for those who can't afford an STI.
***** Not true.STI is for those who don't want to pay expensive BMW bills.
I currently own 11 vehicles including a '15 WRX. I can assure you I could easily afford a STI.
STI is for those who cannot afford to mod the WRX.
mark yes, I absolutely can.
What a stupid comment that is I can afford anything below 50k and would still take the wrx over the sti all day everyday as long as I'm paying 10k less for the wrx I will dump the 10k into the wrx on things I "need" in the car not something I don't like a big ass wing on the back of my car.
late night uploads... I love it!!!
STI have an obsolete Engine... WRX is better developed...
STI has an engine that is battle tested and bulletproof (un-upgraded). DIT motor still has a lot of quirks...
Awesome video production, guys!
