  • Vlog Ep. 72 - The Most Epic Campsite We’ve Ever Been To! - Days 1 & 2 - South Algonquin Park Canoe Trip! (4K)
    This video is about day 1 & 2 of our canoe camping trip through the South end of Algonquin Park! Come along as we paddle our way from the Smoke Lake access point to our campsite on Ragged Lake, and then onto the most epic campsite we’ve ever trekked to on Bonnechere Lake! Enjoy some peaceful paddling on picturesque lakes, along beautiful rivers and scenic portages through the backcountry in Algonquin's remote interior as we make our way deeper into the park. Please note, you can enjoy the adventure in its full 4K resolution in Google’s Chrome browser.

    Hi everyone! We hope you enjoy the start to our new Algonquin trip series! Day two’s campsite stay was inspired by Park Ranger Jason Lorbetskie’s great blog post about it over on Ontario Parks’ website, and we’re also looking forward to sharing our favourite lake in the entire park coming up really soon in day three of the trip, which we’ve been enjoying for years but never captured on film until more recently in this series. Btw, for those who are looking for the 4K version of the video, it should be finished encoding on RUclips’s end any moment now, though the 1080p version’s good to go now if you’d like to enjoy that. As always, thanks so much for watching, as well as all your comments, likes, shares, and if you haven’t already, subscribing to help support our channel - we really appreciate it, and we look forward to sharing day 3 of the trip soon! -Chris, Julia & Cedar :)

    Loved it! When I worked as an out-tripper in the park, jessus 43 years ago!?, I did the Smoke Lake route several times. And I know the camp site. In those days, I would read from Lord of the Rings at night to my charges and that campsite seemed to fit the mood as enchanted forest. Can I guess you will finish by going down Head Creek to Lake of Two Rivers? That last day along the creek was always the best part of the run.

    • @ChrisProuse
      @ChrisProuse  5 лет назад +1

      Thanks Stefan! Sounds like a wonderful route - we took a different one, though we’ll have to check out yours someday. That would be a fantastic place to read Lord of the Rings. I enjoyed Adam Shoalts’ book Alone Against the North along the same route years ago, about bear encounters / thunderstorms with lightning cracking not far outside our tent - I could barely put the book down that night :)

    Love your videos and Algonquin Park! My first trip there was in 1965. Our family camped at Kearney Lake. I have the same 15 ft. canvass/cedar canoe made by Langford in about 1961 that I paddled as a kid!. It weighs quite a lot and I want to lift it as smoothly as you do! Prospector hull with keel. Woodwork is exquisite with cedar, cherry and others.

    Once again, ladies: thank you!
    I just started a new job - so I won't have any vacation time this summer, and have been wracking my brain over a nice spot to camp that could be accessed in a couple of days. For some reason Big Porcupine Lake and its environs never occurred to me - probably because of the bustle up around Canoe and Tea lakes. This looks absolutely lovely, though; I may have to give the area a visit!
    I had to chuckle at your thoughts on how Swift would view your treatment of their canoes. I must admit that I cringe a little every time you two "nose in" bow-first on a beach or something (most commercially-built canoes have reinforced "skid strips," but it's still a good way to shorten a canoe's life). However, you have good paddling (and, especially, good lifting and dropping) techniques. I suspect they wish all customers treated their boats the way you do.

    Great start to another awesome trip! I really enjoyed this part of the park when Shaela and I went through. Although we paddled right past this campsite without realizing how awesome it was! Looking forward to the rest and seeing what your favorite lake is!

    Your vids are such a joy to watch. So professionally edited! That was a beast of a portage and I think I noted a Road Runner sound effect in that chime where you introduced Carl :-)
    Oh, and congratulations!

    I absolutely love you ladies! You are two bad a$$ed mamas! Your son couldn't ask for better. That one portage was insane! I'd canoe with you guys anywhere. Too bad we are across the countries from each other. Thanks you for sharing this. Hope you can take us along more adventures soon.
