I love the editing, the little Smileys etc are really well done, showing the trip on a map gives a very good idea of distance and not having any music is spot on :)! And I love your voice, Chris, so relaxing!
What a gorgeous opening shot... Good decision using minimal music. I loved how and peaceful and natural the park sounded. Can't wait to visit someday. I'm sold.
Absolutely incredible videos. So well done in fact. It inspired me to buy my first canoe in over 20 years. Thanks for the inspiration. Hope to see you on the water!
One thing I am a sucker for when travelling in canoe country is wanting to stop and fish at every "fishy" looking spot I pass....a good weed edge, a laydown on the shore, a rock pile, a good point. Usuallly, I just meet halfway and troll a lure along behind...and just pass closer to shorelines/weed edges as I go....very effective, and breaks up the monotony of a long day of paddling, haha.
I just discovered your channel Chris and have watched the first two days of your trip. You ladies have done an awesome job of trekking and filming. I have really enjoyed the footage so far and look forward to seeing the rest of your trip.
Hi Chris! You have amazing videos! I've only watched 2 so far and i'm already hooked. The campsite you stopped at to have a snack looks so familiar, I'm pretty sure I've actually camped at that exact site, it was my favourite during that trip!
Having started at least 1 interior trip into Algonquin Park (THE GREATEST PARK IN THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD) from every Access point, I have done this trip a few times and it is very long and scenic trip.
+Chris Prouse I've dived into some of your vlogs and such but....really well done. The quality and editing like others have mentioned is totally top notch. You may not like the a6300 though because of its rolling shutter, just a heads up, since you move around a lot. Unless you didnt mind the way it looked in the review I made or the Coney vlog.
***** Thanks! Yeah, I'm still sitting on the fence about which camera to buy... I love the image coming out the Sony cameras the most, but Canon's got great image stabilization, which I took for granted in the little S120. Looking forward to more tests with the Panasonic GX85 and seeing if the dual IS makes it a good vlog camera :)
***** I love the image coming out of the RX100 iv! Been following Sony Alpha Rumours quite a bit, and it looks like the mark 5 may be coming soon, though the recent earthquake around Sony's sensor plant might also delay things.
Wow looks like an awesome place, Chris!! Canoeing is awesome. I did a three day canoe trip in the north cascades here in Washington and it was incredible!
My friends and I are going to Algonquin at the end of the month and I'm hoping to vlog it. I've seen you comment on Louis channel a bunch and I love your videos! They're so well done and relaxing to watch (:
This is the first video from you that I had watched, but I am impressed with it. It must have taken a lot of work to make. Good animations showing the route, etc. and interesting scenery. My only thought to add the final polish would be to do a little color grading/balancing between shots. A small point, I know. Anyway, well done ladies!
+RemekTek Media Thank you so much! There actually is a fair amount of colour grading / balancing applied... but you can only push the codec coming out of a $300 Canon S120 so far before if falls apart, lol. For run & gun vlogging, the camera's white balance is on auto, though to be honest, the colours and exposures coming out of a camera this cheap are all over the place... you should see the before! That and daily vloggers doing this for fun just don't have the time to apply the level of grading that my pro clients get, which is why I'm looking forward to picking up a better vlogging camera. If you'd like to see something with a little more polish, check out my Peanut "Better" S'mores video, filmed with a 5D3 😊
+Chris Prouse Understand. I liked your story telling and edits. It's very good how you interspersed the run & gun type doco footage with some info on planning and the routes. Good stuff! :)
For a second there, I thought you said Mink Lake. It’s in Ontario as well. Don’t know if you know of it or have ever been but my Grandparents had a trailer up there years ago before they were called home. Prolly a little too commercial and busy for you ladies but you had me there for a moment. Lol.
The longest trek my siblings and I did was from Rock Lake campground through to Pen Lake, Welcome Lake, Harry's Lake, Frank's, Florence, and finally into Lake Louisa. I was exhausted that day since we did two day's worth of trekking in one day. That's what happens when you arrive really late the day before.
Wow, that is a big day! We trekked to Lake Louisa from Rock Lake along the same route once, though we stopped at Welcome Lake on the first day - can only imagine how epic your day must have been! :)
It was interesting. I know my brother calculated about 35 km that day including all the double carries we did plus the one canoe's padding broke on the last two kilometer portage and my brother had a lot of trouble with it. I subscribed, hoping to see more of your trips :).
mischief007 Whoa! Tough break with the paddle too (no pun intended) when you're already tired from a long day! Thanks for subscribing - after the current cottage weekend series that just started going up today, we've got another Algonquin Park trip coming up :)
Great video! Chris, correct me if i'm wrong, but these were filmed in 2015 season correct? I'm in Southern Ontario and it must be too cold to be doing that now?! Haha let me know, thanks
+Adam Stevens Thanks Adam! Yeah, these were filmed a while back. We're currently planning our next trip to Algonquin in May - I hope to have a new vlog camera by then, so shots don't require as much clean-up in post :)
Hey Chris, you remember in Caseys video that he made on how to reduce the wind noise on his camera ?? You should try that out. Seams like it works well for him haha. I really hope you bright a fishing pole cause those lakes look so AWESOME and perfect for fishing.
Cool! You should totally go for it! Julia and her Dad just got back from a trip into the interior around the Kiosk area, and they had a great time. The overnight temps are definitely getting lower, so be sure to bring lots of warm gear :)
+Daniel Whitton Thanks again Daniel! I think some campers do, though we tend to get around by sighting landmarks and comparing the shoreline with what we see on the map :)
Very well done, enjoyed watching - thanks so much for making this! Ventured here from your comment left on today's Casey video. Hope you're planning to upload more soon? :)
hi chris great footage thanks for taking us along. ? about how long was it time wise from your campsite at stack raps to Hogan? looking for a route plan for this spring to do a lot of fishing and am trying to get some intel thank you in advance
Thanks Peter! I think we left from the campsite that day around 10:30am, and with one-trip portages we arrived at Hogan Lake sometime around 8pm... then I'd say it was about a 45min paddle to our campsite at the other end of the lake. Navigating on the lake at night was tricky, and in hindsight we probably should have left earlier in the morning :)
i love your videos inspired me to get my best friend and plan a trip to cedar lake this summer i'v heard many great things about the area. One question where did you buy your food container and the pack for it? :)
+MotoRides T.O Thanks! Glad to hear! Julia's parents bought the food barrel, but I think you can buy them at MEC here in Canada, and they're made by a company called Barrel Works :)
That was a Kevlar canoe, just curious, you say it is heavier than the ones you're used to. What canoe's have you used that are lighter than kevlar. Nice trip, good photography!! Thank's!!
Thanks John! I think in hindsight Julia was comparing it to a slightly shorter (possibly 16ft vs this 17ft) canoe that we had rented in the past. I think it was only 2-3 pounds lighter, but it was also slightly narrower, so it felt easier to flip up overhead :)
Thank you! This particular series was filmed mostly with my older Canon S120 point & shoot, and then we filmed a separate video from this trip called "Peanut Better S'mores" with my Canon 5D3. Our more recent Algonquin Park series was filmed in 4K with a Panasonic GX85, and a PilotFly H2 gimbal in some of the shots. You can find more detailed info about my current filming rig in a video I posted a few months ago called "How to vlog with a 3-axis gimbal" - hope this helps! :)
Thanks for the reply! I've subscribed to your channel so I'm gonna check out your videos. I'm doing a solo backpacking in Algonquin this coming April. I can't wait! Take care!
I did the same route a few years back, and have seen the alligator. In our 6 days in the park we saw 4 moose. I have not seen any moose in your videos, Have you not seen any or just not gotten any video footage?
I have a question, how did you keep your meat fresh on your trip? Is there a cooler in the barrel? Did you freeze the meat? Thanks! Great content, love watching it.
Thanks Carsiotto! We kept it at the bottom of the food barrel where it's cooler, and use the microwavable ready-crisp bacon that can be stored at room temperature until it's opened. You can find out more about our meal planning in our recent "How to Canoe Camp in Algonquin Park" video :)
+Brian Fisher I carry a Brunton field battery with me that can charge smaller batteries with car adapters. In the event that runs out, I also carry a Brunton solar panel that can charge the field battery. I have shots of the setup coming in either day 5 or 6 I believe :)
Wow! For 12 minutes I was emmerserd in your adventure! Great storytelling again Chris! :) What point and shoot do you take with you on these adventures?
Excellent video! I am am armature video maker who also likes making canoe tripping videos. Can you tell me what editing program you used to make this series?
Wow, I hope the canoe is carbon fiber. Why not inflatable canoe? And at 8:45, Julia is eating peanut butter with pita. Haha. You two eat a lot to do all the outdoor stuff; your oatmeal breakfast is 3 times the size of mine oatmeal breakfast. Love your videos.
+Peichen01 Thank you so much! Haha, yeah, a lot of calories are required to cover those distances! The canoe is actually a Kevlar composite - super durable :)
me and my family just came back from camping and we took a walk and I thought it was to far I was freaking out but the I found out we were just going around a big circle XD
Great videos! Makes me miss my early May trips (which we off-route for a good part, wrong I know, but that's where I was taken :) The map you mentioned, I think it's Jeff's - www.algonquinmap.com/ as Marks Maps are the bathymetric ones.
+Pete Morrison I'm Italian, and salami is still common here :) what I mean is… Pepperoni doesn't have a direct corrispondency in a type of salami you can buy here. it was invented in Americas (don't know where) and is a kind of "Milano" salami, but that, here, is not spicy and not smoked, it's produced there in Americas… and even is name,"Pepperoni", is an american name as "peperoni" here is used to indicate a kind of pepper… So with italians products doesn't have "so much" in common. It's an USA product again :) here in Europe (especially in Italy, as you can imagine) we have a way way more restrictive law regarding food… and trust me, you wouldn't be allowed (until now, hope TTIP will never be ratified, at least in this actual form) to place a flag of a foreign country if that has nothing in common with what you're selling. It is considered false advertising. hence, we're "protecting" regional origin of a specific product with D.O.P., D.O.C., D.O.P.G. and so on (for wine or parmiggiano for example, way different from your parmesan :) )
Something I have quickly learned watching this channel... Chris is a freaking boss!
I love the editing, the little Smileys etc are really well done, showing the trip on a map gives a very good idea of distance and not having any music is spot on :)!
And I love your voice, Chris, so relaxing!
I love that we could hear the sounds of nature. 👍☺Excellent work CJ. Can't wait for the next video.
+Luisa V Cinematography skills made things a whole lot better.
+Luisa V Thanks Luisa! :)
+Hassaan Khan Vlogs Thanks Hassaan! :)
What a gorgeous opening shot...
Good decision using minimal music. I loved how and peaceful and natural the park sounded.
Can't wait to visit someday. I'm sold.
+Hi I'm Alan Thanks Alan! Yeah, on days like those, we'll stop paddling and just listen to the peaceful silence - so surreal :)
Chris Prouse sounds wonderful. I look forward to Part 3, see you guys then :)
Really enjoyable to watch, and I'm sure that's nothing compared to the fun you guys had making the trip!
Thanks Greg and Cin! Haha, yeah, there are lots of laughs that we don't catch on camera :)
Oh wow, what can I say another great vlog, some breathtaking shots, thank you for sharing your adventure with us.
+ELISA Harris Thanks Elisa! :)
Absolutely incredible videos. So well done in fact. It inspired me to buy my first canoe in over 20 years. Thanks for the inspiration. Hope to see you on the water!
Wow, so glad to hear Daniel! That's awesome! Hope you get to enjoy it during the fall colours :)

I totally understand what you mean - I feel the same way about filming... constantly feel the need to film everything :)
That backpackers pantry pad thai iS EPIICCCCC! Its one of my favs from them.
LOVE the map editing. really digging your videos!
Thanks Trent! :)
Absolutely brilliant, it's so relaxing listening to your commentary. Great work.
Enjoying your adventure Chris, great filming as well looking forward to more. Greetings from Scotland
Thank you so much! Would love to visit Scotland some day! :)
I just discovered your channel Chris and have watched the first two days of your trip. You ladies have done an awesome job of trekking and filming. I have really enjoyed the footage so far and look forward to seeing the rest of your trip.

Very nicely done Chris! Makes me feel like I'm right there.
Thanks so much Chris! Glad to hear :)

You girls kicked butt that day. A lot of ground covered, Tough paddling and some long portages.
Stunning views and tranquil rowing...
+Andrew S.M. Gray Thanks Andrew! :)
I am only one minute into the video but had to stop to write that the editing and shots are really professional Chris well done!
+Daniel Whitton Aww! Thanks Daniel! :)
Badass ! Your experience shows!!
Thanks! :)
You guys are great! I love the park and love your videos!
Very cool. Looks like you two had a great time. Looks like some hard work at times but well worth it.
I’m a new subscriber. Looking Forward to catching up on all your videos. They are very well done and very entertaining. You and Julia are so great!
what a great trip great scenery thanks terry
Hi Chris! You have amazing videos! I've only watched 2 so far and i'm already hooked. The campsite you stopped at to have a snack looks so familiar, I'm pretty sure I've actually camped at that exact site, it was my favourite during that trip!
Thanks Edwina! That's so cool - we actually ended up staying at that island campsite on the way back on days 5 & 6 of the trip! Amazing campsite :)
Wow, you make portaging look easy!
Thanks Shawn! :)
Do you two always do portages in one trip?
Great vlog Chris&Julia
+MacKaledy Thanks MacKaledy :)
Fantastic adventure!
I so want to do that route looks amazing. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching! More trips planned for this fall :)
Having started at least 1 interior trip into Algonquin Park (THE GREATEST PARK IN THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD) from every Access point, I have done this trip a few times and it is very long and scenic trip.
It's a good one! :)
yes but good is VERY GOOD in Algonquin Park which I call THE GREATEST PARK IN THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD!
Great choice to not use much music, loved the natural sound!
+Eric Rossi Thanks Eric! Looking forward to picking up a new vlog camera soon - your videos have been really helpful! :)

***** I love the image coming out of the RX100 iv! Been following Sony Alpha Rumours quite a bit, and it looks like the mark 5 may be coming soon, though the recent earthquake around Sony's sensor plant might also delay things.
I never knew stuff like that alligator was in Algonquin, very cool!
Yeah, we're always surprised by what we find in the park and how much history is there - so much more to explore! :)
Great editing job ladies. 👍 Y'all are tough cookies.
Thanks so much Matthew! :)
Nice filming, well done, will keep watching.
+Don of Orange Corners Thanks Don! :)
Wow looks like an awesome place, Chris!! Canoeing is awesome. I did a three day canoe trip in the north cascades here in Washington and it was incredible!
+Alec Ilstrup Wow! Just checked out the Cascades - would love to travel there some day! :)
Incredible place!! The hiking is unreal
Great video Chris, very cool intro and editing. Great footage of the lakes too. Subbed yer channel, T

Great vids, underrated channel
Wow, canoeing at night! Hardcore...and awesome.
Haha, yeah, we'd never done that before :)

the most beautiful place Algonquin Park cannot wait to get there this year 2016
+Aventinus Lock Thanks for watching - hope you have a great trip! :)
Just ordered Jeff's maps for my big Algonquin trip this summer, thanks for the tip:)
Nice! Glad to hear and have fun! :)

aaaaaa so calm the intro... #priceless
+YOtube It's quite incredible - sometimes on days like those, we'll stop paddling and just listen to the complete silence :)
+Chris Prouse so beautiful... I do that sometimes too:) but then siren and people screaming takes the mood:) haha living in Manhattan:)
Great video! Chris, correct me if i'm wrong, but these were filmed in 2015 season correct? I'm in Southern Ontario and it must be too cold to be doing that now?! Haha let me know, thanks

My Partner left me in April and we did lots of Kayaking and camping so love your videos , oh and Hi from Scotland
I'm sorry to hear Ian - I hope you're doing well, and I'm sure you'll find someone else to enjoy those things with again - hang in there :)
Thanks Chris you guys are so cool :)
Hey Chris, you remember in Caseys video that he made on how to reduce the wind noise on his camera ?? You should try that out. Seams like it works well for him haha. I really hope you bright a fishing pole cause those lakes look so AWESOME and perfect for fishing.
Just got some micro-muff wind screens for my camera! :)
I think you have motivated me to try and sneak one last trip in this year.
Cool! You should totally go for it! Julia and her Dad just got back from a trip into the interior around the Kiosk area, and they had a great time. The overnight temps are definitely getting lower, so be sure to bring lots of warm gear :)
Impressive how you guys body press that canoe! A question, do you use a gps unit as well as the map to navigate?
+Daniel Whitton Thanks again Daniel! I think some campers do, though we tend to get around by sighting landmarks and comparing the shoreline with what we see on the map :)
How much did that Kevlar canoe weigh? How much does the one you are "used to" weigh?
Very well done, enjoyed watching - thanks so much for making this! Ventured here from your comment left on today's Casey video. Hope you're planning to upload more soon? :)
Thanks so much, and for watching! We have a new video coming early next week :)
Hey chris, great vids, can you tell me what your using for editing software.thanks

Thank's Chris, That makes sense. I miss canoeing now that I live in Arizona. Great video!!!
Morning what access point did you start your journey from
Fantastic video and editing! Question, what camera do you use? Dslr?
Thanks!
Thank you! This particular series was filmed mostly with my older Canon S120 point & shoot, and then we filmed a separate video from this trip called "Peanut Better S'mores" with my Canon 5D3. Thanks for the reply! I've subscribed to your channel so I'm gonna check out your videos. I'm doing a solo backpacking in Algonquin this coming April. I can't wait! Take care!
Im trying to get in good enough shape to do this one day. Major kudos on the portage carries
Thanks Rob! You can do it - go for it! :)
I did the same route a few years back, and have seen the alligator. In our 6 days in the park we saw 4 moose. I have not seen any moose in your videos, Have you not seen any or just not gotten any video footage?

I used that kind of bacon on a recent camping trip too! In another video I saw you ate steak. So no ice, just put it at the bottom of the barrel?
Makes me want to return! Depending on how many days are left from your trip, I wondered what you did for camera batteries?
+Brian Fisher I carry a Brunton field battery with me that can charge smaller batteries with car adapters. In the event that runs out, I also carry a Brunton solar panel that can charge the field battery. I have shots of the setup coming in either day 5 or 6 I believe :)
+Chris Prouse Thanks! I'll check out Brunton and will stay tuned for that video!
Wow! For 12 minutes I was emmerserd in your adventure! Great storytelling again Chris! :) What point and shoot do you take with you on these adventures?
+Thibaut Verrue Thanks Thibaut! This was filmed with a Canon S120 - I'm looking to upgrade to a better vlog camera soon though :)
8:25 Were you able to plow through that mess, or did you have to back out and go around somehow?
So jelly, loved your trip videos. Too bad there wasn't any Sasquatch sightings.
Excellent video! I am am armature video maker who also likes making canoe tripping videos. Can you tell me what editing program you used to make this series?
Thanks Jay! These were edited in FCPX :)
Very cool video, subscribed.
Thanks Johan! Glad to hear :)
I so love this trip :)))
It's unfair that you are a professional filmmaker, the rest of us are just bumbling along :)
You're out there filming and doing though which shows a lot of initiative - great way to learn 👌I'm completely self taught too 😊
+Chris Prouse So there's hope 😊!!!
I agree with Beardsman olololololol... like caveman with an Old RCA VHS Camcorder compared to Chris lolol...cheers ladies !,;,;,; Spook
Ever heard of Lars Monsen? He is a Norwegian who traveled across Canada. It took him 2 years and 7 months.
+Pyro B3ar Just checked him out - so cool! Going to watch some of his journey :)
Loved it
Wow, I hope the canoe is carbon fiber. Why not inflatable canoe? And at 8:45, Julia is eating peanut butter with pita. Haha. You two eat a lot to do all the outdoor stuff; your oatmeal breakfast is 3 times the size of mine oatmeal breakfast.

Love he fact that there was no music thought
what month was this filmed in?
I believe this trip was filmed in mid September :)
me and my family just came back from camping and we took a walk and I thought it was to far I was freaking out but the I found out we were just going around a big circle XD
Haha, nice! :)
+Chris Prouse Thxs XD
Are you carrying a LW 42 lb. canoe???
Yep, I believe it was :)
yes that is the canoe I have

Haha, thanks again! Hello from Canada! :)
这船上哪能买到?
nice place!!!
+Max Maximus Thanks Max! Algonquin's an amazing place - headed back there soon! :)
I fee dumb but what does Portage mean ?? 🙈🙈
In camping, it usually means the path between two lakes :)
Great videos! Makes me miss my early May trips (which we off-route for a good part, wrong I know, but that's where I was taken :) The map you mentioned, I think it's Jeff's - www.algonquinmap.com/ as Marks Maps are the bathymetric ones.
Thanks John! :)
Portage - I haven't heard that since mr millers grade 7 social studies class.
wow nice video thx.
Thanks Manfred! :)
I love chris love from India😍😙😙😙
Cool
JEFFS MAP.....JEFF HAS GIVEN/SOLD THIS BUSINESS TO A FRIEND, BUT THE MAP IS STILL AVAILABLE ONLINE AND ORDERS CAN STILL BE PLACED.
Great voice. Have you considered doing voice overs?
I helped jeff WITH NAMES AND FISHES IN LAKES....JEFF IS NOT A FISHERMAN....I AM....LOL
Cool! :)
Jeff is a good friend of mine.
Pepperoni... product of U.S.A. ... but they have to stick an italian flag to it to make it more visually appealing... oh men, why? :/
+Alessandro Dei Giudici Yeah, they should just say it's spicy :)
+Pete Morrison I'm Italian, and salami is still common here :)
what I mean is… Pepperoni doesn't have a direct corrispondency in a type of salami you can buy here. it was invented in Americas (don't know where) and is a kind of "Milano" salami, but that, here, is not spicy and not smoked, it's produced there in Americas… and even is name,"Pepperoni", is an american name as "peperoni" here is used to indicate a kind of pepper… So with italians products doesn't have "so much" in common. It's an USA product again :)
here in Europe (especially in Italy, as you can imagine) we have a way way more restrictive law regarding food… and trust me, you wouldn't be allowed (until now, hope TTIP will never be ratified, at least in this actual form) to place a flag of a foreign country if that has nothing in common with what you're selling. It is considered false advertising.
hence, we're "protecting" regional origin of a specific product with D.O.P., D.O.C., D.O.P.G. and so on (for wine or parmiggiano for example, way different from your parmesan :) )
Hooray no music....
