P.S. Thanks for watching! :) xx
Sometimes, I forget how beautiful this world can be. Thanks for sharing.
Aww! Thanks for watching Lionel :)
Thanks for making these videos. I really respect how you allow the landscape to speak for itself. Everyone else would probably narrate away many of the best moments.
Love the sound of the paddle and the boat moving through the water at 3:50. Brought back some good memories of times I've spent on the water. Thank you !
So glad to hear - thanks for watching Mike! :)
Thanks a lot. The Algonquin Par was my most important experience in my life. This was at first time a part of our route in 2000. Greetings from Germany 🎁🎁🎁🙏🙏🙏💖💖💖💖
The cutest loons diving down and popping out of the water!
Love the loons so much! :)
absolutely amazing . this is truly paradise . there is no paradise in the world . the parodies is in this trip . you can feel everything here . most of the jungles are peaceful . thank you for sharing . I love to see more about
Just when I thought you guys couldn't get any cooler, it turns out you're Aeropressers too! I love your videos. They truly capture seizing the day and making the most of your youth and health. Keep 'em coming.
Love a good Aeropress coffee in Algonquin - such a great place to relax with a warm cup and enjoy the view :)
Greg Greaves ... make the most of life young or old!
Greg Greaves and using the classic upside down method 😉
Your legs looked totally jacked when pulling the canoe out. Almost forgot for a minute that you are athletes. Great editing. It is nice to watch people truly enjoying themselves and each other..... actually discussing the subtle, personal delights of the trip. I think your trips are enjoyable for the viewer because more focus is placed on the beauty of your trip and your companionship than is placed on the gear you use.
I'm watching this 4 years later and you've really given me some inspiration to try out portaging. Thanks.
I'm blown away by the team work, the mood of your films, the situational awareness (you caught in midflight your vest that was not attached to the 40lb canoe you had just flipped on you back along with the barrel pack) and never missed a step. I'm hooked and can't wait to watch the rest of your trip. You guys are great, thanks for taking the time to share this.
Thanks so much Derek! Glad to hear you're enjoying them! :)
Every time I see the sunset shots I shout out. Thanks Chris for this stunning shoot!
Love everything you do! Thanks for this beautiful, inspiring series.
Ever since I started photography a couple of years ago I don't see outdoor activities the same way as I used to, aren't we lucky to be living in Canada, being able to enjoy the scenery is priceless. Watching your videos makes me think more about my surroundings and trying to capture them in any possible way (stills or video) and leaving no footprint
but a lot of quality prints once I get home after being out (lol!!!). Now if I can only only get my hands on a G85 (lol!!!). Thanks again for sharing this wonderful Video.
Glad to hear Ben! If you happen to get the camera, I highly recommend the new 12-60mm lens - its been a great all-round lens, and has some weather sealing too :)
Thanks for your feedback Chris, looking also for the 100-400mm as I do a lot of birding, you and Julia rock!!!!
Cool! If you happen to get the 100-400mm, please let me know what you think of it! Can't tell you how many times I wish I had a longer lens in the park :)
You guys truly capture the heart and soul of the journey! My favourite channel.
Thanks so much Mike! Glad to hear! :)
This video was a treat. Great share! The diversity of the route you paddled was spectacular. If possible, could you post the route you traveled by names (including the campsites). BTW, I really enjoy your map inserts along the way. They add a wonderful insight into your trip(s). Safe travels!
Thank you! Glad to hear! The individual campsites actually don't have their own designations or names - each night you book your lake and then the sites are first-come-first-serve. If you take a look at "Jeff's Map" of Algonquin Park (it's a free online PDF map with more detail), and navigated to the approximate dots on our map, you'd be able to see them while paddling from the canoe :)
Thanks for the memories and allowing me to laugh along with you both... Loved the scene with Julia paddling into the sunset.. Thanks again for sharing. Rob
Thanks for watching Rob! Glad to hear :)
Love watching your videos! Makes me look forward to more camping and canoe trips in Algonquin next summer :)
Thanks Romika! Glad to hear :)
You two compliment one another well, looks like a great little adventure.
Thanks Justin! :)
Incredible scenery, fantastic cinematography and editing, and decent bush craft.... Thank you for having us along on this trip!
I cant believe how awesome the weather was for you two; so far.
Thank you so much! :)
I was delighted with your video. Beautiful pictures from Canada. One day I'll be getting to know this beautiful country. From Brazil.
Glad to hear! Thanks for watching :)
You are definitely the Casey Neistat of outdoor RUclipsrs! Fantastic Chris.
Aww! Thanks so much Larry! That means a lot to me :)
Another excellent video, thanks for posting!
Thanks Douglas! :)
Great adventure and filming Chris 👍👍
Thanks Flinders! :)
A wonderful nature. Quality images. Full of adventures. Achievements Chris ...
A perfectly framed day in the Park.
So cool....so beautiful...thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching Tommi! :)
For The Holy Old Mackinaw! This has gotta be one of the very best pieces of videography you've ever cranked-out. The quality of your camera work is a given; the video editing is spot-on. Those "morning mist" pieces are classic. You are one very talented camera slinger!
Aww! Thanks so much Patrick! :)
I chuckled every time I heard the kid cheers in the music :P
Another great all-around video. I realize that you are both triathlon athletes but I'm still impressed how you both handle the portages. Looking forward to joining you for the rest of the trip.
Thanks Harold! Those portages sure do build character :)
Having done this trip a few times, the portage from Burnt Island Lake over to Otterslide Lake is not easy.....with many rocks on portage, boardwalks, and HILLS!!! I have yet to see an otter on Otterslide Lake. I spent my honeymoon on Big Trout Lake.....which was where I met my bride to be way back in 1966.
Reminds me of my camping days. I can almost smell the pine!
Wow this sunset !
This brings back memories, we did this part of the trip in reverse this summer, and instead of doing the oxtungue like you guys we went over through Happy Isle
Glad to hear! Love Happy Isle :)
WOW! I love your trip ...
Amazing video and realy nice picture, calme, cool ....
This summer I belive to go in your place .
Québec man
this place is only 7hrs from me. such a great series girls. You two are awsome
Thank you! We'll have another series coming this spring! :)
Beautiful videos Chris! Awesome video editing skills.
Thanks so much Christian! Glad to hear :)
Graceful & elegant stories. I can't wait to watch the others. Well done!
Thanks Andrew! Glad to hear - this video is one of my personal favourites :)
I am doing this loop solo in a few weeks. Watching this has me very excited! Such a beautiful job capturing your voyage.
So well put together... thanks for capturing, editing and sharing!
Thank you! :)
I've stayed at that first campsite you were at and climbed the 'mountain' as well. Tons of fun 😄
That's so cool! Great campsite :)
Yup........nice campsite on point of bay leading to LaMuir portage, complete with an underground spring and grass where I spent my honeymoon in 1971.
Big 👍 Up Chris and Julia. Excellent vlog.
Thanks Andy! :)
What a great video! I love the way it slowly transitions from fun and upbeat to mellow and dreamy. Just like a perfect day of canoeing and camping. Nice work making the falafels turn out good despite adding too much water.
Really enjoyed this one so I do all your videos. Beautiful area and looks like fun.
Thanks Seezor! :)
So nice to see this one, Chris! Love me some Chris and Julia video of Algonquin Park! Another bravo job my friend!! :-)
Thanks so much Ed! Thanks for watching :)
Loved it Chris!! Very pretty scenery, especially in 4K. I don't know what you did to please the weather gods, but it looked like there wasn't a breath of wind that day. Bet it made for some great paddling! Keep em coming!
Thanks Andrew! We lucked out the first few days... the rain's coming ;)
Nice work, great music...
Thanks Lance! :)
You guys are awesome. Thanks for these videos.
An other great video!! Can't wait to canoeing next year.
Thanks Denis! :)
This inspires to another level! Thanks!
Killing it, as always. :D:D You two have a nice week :D
Thanks GT! Hope you have a good week too! :)
Your laughing is contagious 😊
Thanks for the tip on finding the portage. I learned something new today!
Thanks for posting... Now I have a reason to buy a 4k tv!
Haha, glad to hear! :)
Exceptional quality video, thanks for sharing, it is truly inspiring.
i like it at the end where she said "that's a wrap", then lights out.. (Y) Thats creative, well.... along with few other things in the video. Keep up the good work and continue to explore. I've already subscribed to your channel. :)
Hey guys, great trip, videography and editing :) Top notch :) (I know the effort and time involved !!) You might want to try out some BioLite products on your next trip. great for cooking whilst generating energy from fire - useful for evening lights or re-charging all those batteries !! I have a Basecamp and love it to bits, but the Campstove 2 with grill and coffee press would be awesome for a trip like yours. If you catch some fish on the way then less need to take so much heavy food also. Great vids, please keep inspiring the rest of us who are not so lucky to live somewhere so beautiful :)
ok.. seen 50+ vids on the subject and ur content is the best...!!!subscribed...
You guys have an enormous talent for making videos! They are really calming, entertaining and inspiring! Thanks for the good vibes! Oh, and excelent camera work, really impressive!
There are so many things I want to say about your video but I'll keep it short and sweet first of all thank you Chris you & Julie are awesome and just like I mentioned in Joe's videos I like the fact that you don't play background music so much in yours keep up the good work.
Thanks Marty! Glad to hear :)
I love the videos you and Julia produce!!! They have brought me so much pleasure!!!
I'm new here...father of daughters, you two are inspiring.
Thanks heaps for this vid!! i took this same route and had to turn back just before getting to Burnt Lake, as it was getting dark, so I've always wondered what was beyond that shoreline.
Cool! Glad to hear :)
Love your videos chris!
2:38
you could've skipped that portage too- plus you would see lost joe- not many people know about that lake... and it's beautiful and lots of wildlife is there too.
you know how to make a video!!!! AWESOME!
You and Julia have the most incredible adventures. Thanks for sharing. Are you planning on having kids?? I can just see them in the canoe with you!
Thanks! We are thinking about kids actually - thinking about them in the canoe warms my heart :)
Классно снято! Природа супер!
Very nice video Chris. When was it taken? looks like great weather and no bugs ;)
Thanks Eran! This was filmed in September - you're right about the bugs, though the rain is coming ;)
Is that the soundtrack from the original 70's movie Shaft? Anyway, makes good canoeing music... Very soothing to watch and nice to see a travelogue that is not constantly updated with useful info like 'now we are putting the tent up' ' now we are here' and 'now it is dark' etc. Like your work! T
Haha, almost sounds like it! Thanks! Yeah, very much agree... I think Aaron Sorkin once said the worst thing you can do is tell the audience something the already know, so I try to avoid narration about what we're doing as much as possible when storytelling :)
A lovely place
Your channel is wonderful I feel like I am with you
Thanks Donna! Glad to hear :)
such an appealing video
Thanks David! :)
Nice music at the end
about time you uploaded another video :P
Haha, hope you enjoyed it! :)
Always wondered what a falawful (butchered that spelling) was. Looks kinda like a burrito. Great video and loved the music
Thumbs up before I even watched it!
Thanks Simon! :)
So much impressed. Sooo amazing! :)
B-e-a-u-tiful
Was I imagining things or did you have a red & gray MSR tent in one scene and a different tent later on? Great videos by the way - you have set a new standard.
I've been meaning to ask from this trip and your other camping trips, water, are you hauling in all your water or filtering. If filtering, what system are you using and maybe a quick video of your process. Good times. 🇨🇦
I like how you tie your video and music together using beats and note changes to change camera zoom or shot ... Adding notes and text in rythym.
yall kill me with those marshmallows lmao
just came across this. I'm so curious what cameras you used and how you film while paddling? I would love to be able to make trip videos of this quality. Incredible work!
and besides the story and video style, what impresses me a lot is how you navigate through the tracks, rivers! how don't you guys get lost? ☺
Thanks Alexandre! Haha, we get a little lost from time to time, though it's all part of the fun :)
Hey ! Says the Canadian ...You change canoe overnight and tent did you bring two of each. Oh yeah on the previous video the cup cake double chocolate plus warm marshmallow, well was there any chocolate chip in the cake...
nice tent, was wondering make and model?,, thanks,, great campsite there also
Why do you hang that from the tree? Great vid!
Just to keep the bears from getting into it :)
Ah! Makes sense. Thought about that after I commented.
Wow! Great work! What solar charger do you use?
Hi Chris: I've noticed that you keep the blue barrel upright in the canoe. Doesn't this raise the centre of gravity & add to instability? I'm not being critical just curious. By the way it is a great video full of life & spirit Thanks Brian 76
Thanks Brian! You're entirely right - it does raise the centre of gravity and makes it a little more tippy. We tend to take little snack breaks out on the water, so we just find it's easier to pop it open when it's upright. The other heavy pack in the bottom of the canoe is about the same weight, so it helps offset it a bit :)
I think you are heading to Big Trout which is where I met my wife in May 1966.
How much do those canoes weigh?
This one was about 43 pounds I believe :)
And how amazing to see a lake system with no power boats on it. What a treasure. Every lake I've been to has been covered up with power boats and jet skis.
It truly is an incredible place!
Wow! This was beautiful! I'm still skeptical that you did this in September lol. Looks like summer to me. Great tip on finding portages. I usually try to line up prominent points or islands and sight them that way. I also bring small binoculars just in case (also useful for spotting occupied campsites).
Thanks Ian! The rain is coming up ;)
This place is so beautiful. Thank you for sharing it with us!
Are the portage trails "cart friendly"? I have a 90 pound fishing kayak that I'd likely die if I tried to solo carry above my head. I'd love to try this place.
Some of the portages near the access points are definitely cart friendly - the portage we did on the first day would be great, though some of the ones in this video would be tricky. I believe there's a 14km cart trail at the 23rd access point on Lake Travers, which can take you to White Partridge Lake, which is pretty deep in the park :)
Chris Prouse I think it's definitely time to plan a trip east. There is nothing like this (sort of) in Alberta.
You should go for it! Early May (before the bugs hit), and August onwards are the best times to go :)
You might want to check out Lakeland Prov Park near Lac La Biche. No Algonquin but very good paddling for Alberta
Hi Chris. Really like you videos, so have subscribed. I have just ordered the gx80 mainly due to my research but your quality videos tipped it for me. Since I have come to learn there is a 28 min recording limit on the eu versions, does yours suffer this?also can you recommend a suitable SD card for this camera, maybe something you use? Thanks
Hey Phil, congrats and thanks for subscribing! To my knowledge, I don't think the GX85 sold here in Canada has the limit... though I rarely record anything longer than 20 minutes. The wireless Panasonic app has been awesome for starting / stopping clips to keep file sizes down when I'm recording myself too. I'm currently using some SanDisk Extreme Pro 256GB SDXC cards, which are 95MB/s, U3, Class 10, and have been great for filming in 4K - hope this helps! :)
Chris Prouse thanks it does. I have allot to learn so will be following you for inspiration, ideas and mainly to enjoy your vids. I did like the technical one you did about the gimbals, that insight to what is involved to achieve is something new people don't have the foresight.
How did you find the campsite in the dark ? Amazing.
I will be doing my first backcountry Kayak trip into Algonquin the first week of August 2022. I am only backcountry camping for 1 night on Burnt Island Lake and am departing from Tea Lake Campground. Is it doable to get up to Burnt Island Lake from Tea Lake in a day ? Thanks :)
Amazing series !!! Sorry to ask, but how are the mosquitoes at this time of the year??? I check their website but I really trust more ppl that were been there! ;) Thx !
Thanks Alessandro! No prob - the bugs are usually gone by mid-to-late August, and we only saw a few when we filmed this trip in September. We also enjoy camping during early May, just before they start getting bad towards the middle of May. You should totally go for it! :)
Chris Prouse Thx a lot! Planning to go early may.
worth the wait! really enjoyed it. Forgot to mention on the last one that Julia could use one of these www.canadianoutdoorequipment.com/eog-v3-pocket-bellows.html the next time she's trying to blow life into a fire...she'd look a little strange without eyebrows haha
Haha! Thanks Derek! :)
HOW DID YOU MAKE IT FROM JOE TO BIG TROUT!!!!
WHEN I WENT, I WENT FROM BURNT TO OTTERSLIDE, THEN TO BIG TROUT.
Haha, it was definitely a long day for us - depending on the trip, we'll sometimes do less distance and enjoy more time at that day's campsite :)
Oh man the Loons!... home sick
