"It is a scientific fact that the occasional contemplation of natural scenes of an impressive character, particularly if this contemplation occurs in connection with relief from ordinary cares, change of air and change of habits, is favorable to the health and vigor of men and especially to the health and vigor of their intellect beyond any other conditions which can be offered them, that it not only gives pleasure for the time being but increases the subsequent capacity for happiness and the means of securing happiness." Hi Joe- what a serene afternoon.... I loved seeing the frog and you petting the dragonfly! One of my great loves of the outdoors is the creatures big and small :) The bog flower you saw was the top of a pitcher plant. Look further down and you'll see the vase-like body with little downward facing hairs.

The plant you asked about at 32:30 is the flowering stalk and head of a purple pitcher plant. You've undoubtedly seen the lower part of this highly distinct marsh-dwelling insectivorous plant many times before, but probably not ever seen them in flower as you did on that day.Cheers,- Martin

Crazy looking flower (at 32:52) was the Newfoundland Pitcher Plant. It's our Provincial Flower. Catches Black flies mosquitoes etc for nourishment in it's leaves located at bottom of stem of flower. If it's not it, it is certainly a related genus..
