This documentary series showcases the intricate artistry of Kude Craft, a designated traditional craft of Kagawa, Shikoku, Japan. In this “with no explanation” version, you’ll witness every step of the process in its purest form, without narration or commentary.

Using the Kude-cut pieces from the previous step, the Mitsukude framework is assembled according to the specific dimensions of the ordered canvas.
    𝐀𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐊𝐮𝐝𝐞 𝐂𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐭:
Kude Craft is a traditional Japanese woodworking technique that has been passed down through generations of joiners since the 6th century. While it is commonly known as “Kumiko” in other regions, in Kagawa, it has been uniquely preserved as “Kude” (/ku-de/).
Originally, these skills were developed to create and decorate Shoji screens, a cornerstone of traditional Japanese interiors. However, as the use of Shoji screens has declined, with fewer Japanese homes including traditional rooms, Kude Craft faces the challenge of adapting to modern times. Today, its survival depends on bespoke orders placed by those who value its rare beauty and unmatched precision.
𝐈𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬, follow the creation of a ceiling-high, custom-built partition-a one-of-a-kind project tailored for a specific space. By watching, you join a select group of people who appreciate the artistry and history of Kude Craft, helping to preserve this extraordinary legacy of Japanese joinery.
Discover the skill, tradition, and artistry of Kude Craft, where generations of expertise meet modern design to create something truly unique.

We're woodworkers, not sociologists. Show what he is doing, not a long shot of his shop and the bald spot on his head.
