    My Dad worked in a woodshop when he was first married, and had no money on their 1st anniversary, so turned a stump (because his boss said it was rubbish so he could have it) into a fruit bowl to give my mum. It still has fruit in it on the kitchen table 58 years later, even though Dad passed away 16 years ago.
    Thanks for the video and making think of my very skilled Dad.

    My old man was fascinated by woodturning, and lathes in general. Didn't know the first thing about any of it, so went out and got himself a copy of 'The Amateur's Lathe' by L.H. Sparey (first published in 1948). He sat in the living room for the entire weekend and read it from cover to cover, then went out to the workshop and got busy. He made some amazing things out of both wood and metal. Me, I have all the artistic sensibility of a damp sponge. I can barely use a cordless drill without taking someone's eye out.
    Nice work. You've got some serious talent.

    I'll get to my impression of the work, but let me say that this video was so well done. No long intro, just got right to it. No music, I like to hear the actual sounds happening in a video. Great use of fast forward and skipping to the next thing without missing any of the pertinent details. Now.. the patience, artistry and craftsmanship that went into this piece is phenomenal. I'm thinking it must take years to master. I hope he charges at least $500-$1000 dollars for the work. Edit, I realize that $500 - $1000 is low balling the value. I'm sure that people who don't appreciate the work would still see $500 as too much. Luckily, there are people willing to pay top dollar for pieces of art like this.

    • @randyp3871
      @randyp3871 Year ago +3

      I was thinking way more than that. I just paid $1000 to have 2 struts replaced in my car.

    • @tjwash2
      @tjwash2 Year ago +2

      @ you're right about that, now that I give it a second thought. I think to a great extent the general public doesn't appreciate that you're not just paying for materials and labor, you're paying for all of the unpaid hours it took to learn the craft.

    • @libertyoak4925
      @libertyoak4925 10 months ago +1

      Trust should easily be a $3k piece. The labor is 90% of that cost.
      Gorgeous work!

    • @tjwash2
      @tjwash2 10 months ago

      @libertyoak4925 Definitely, on the 90%, most craftsman know where to find inexpensive (relatively) materials. If I had the money, I'd pay $3000 for that. I pet sit for about a dozen very wealthy clients, and they often pay top dollar for items like this.

    • @crazymadcrafter3415
      @crazymadcrafter3415 10 months ago +1

      I was thinking he should put a pretty hefty price tag on it because it is an amazing piece. I was so glad that I watched the video because it made me appreciate just how much work goes into not to mention how much creativity he has. I don’t think enough people really appreciate true art and are willing to pay for the amount of work that goes into a piece. I am thankful that there are some out there that will because he deserves what ever $$$ he gets for this piece.
