- The iPhone XR was a big change in the iPhone lineup back in 2018, but now in 2024, I wanted to find out if it still stands its own. In this Day in the Life as a university student, I test out the performance, display, cameras and battery life to see if the XR is a viable option.

iphone xr user here, i can confirm that the battery even if changed and not having the percentage of the health, drops a lot and faster while using it on instagram and it overheats a lot using instagram i think its the devs problem, but overall if you really need to have an iphone like switching from android like i did you can find it second hand for cheap, iOS is very smooth like he did my phone doesn't crash apps like he mentioned maybe his problem, short story for me it is still a good phone even if you play like i do and can handle codm even on high graphics keeping good framerate but it overheats a lot so i recommend playing at north pole or using a fan to keep it cool and one thing i've noticed is if you use it the battery drops faster but if you let it standby it can keep the % same as before even for hours
yeah, i never saw any app crash unless network wifi issue. also being a cybersec engineer, ppl can bombard ur iphone or ipad's specific icloud-sync port (apple use for ecosystem shit)..that might cause the entire phone to crash. I often crash my friend's phone and tablet it gets stuck on and sometimes even needs to be restarted. only when on same wifi network
u changed ur battery and it dropped how fast?
@@hugo7124 i bought it second hand with already the battery was changed from the previous owner but not with Apple center so i cant tell how old is the battery or the % but it should have 300+ cicles

@@lorenzofal2068 Sometimes non genuine batteries are replaced. They use a part of the older battery to trick the phone into thinking it isn't a non Apple battery. That might be a reason. Changing on your own gives more reliable information.
The fact that it's getting the ios 18 update the xr is still superior

I think it’s good enough if you don’t do too much on your phone, but if you usually do more than 2 hours of SOT then you probably need a better one like at least the 12. I would’ve said the 11 but at this point it’s barely newer than the XR anyway

Looks like the world is full of spoilt young kids who are only interested in the latest gimmicks their elders give them as freebies! I have 2 of these (256 GB), an iPhone XS (512 GB), an iPhone SE SE 2020 (128 GB), even iPhone 6s, iPhone 5s and every single one was bought cheap used but in near mint condition ...Same goes for my Samsung Galaxy S and A series smartphones ....
They all run perfectly, when the battery ages, just have a new one fitted and you're good to go again! No loss of performance, no crashing apps.
Just because the industry tells you to buy the latest and even more expensive gimmicks every year doesn't mean you have to follow suit .... Ridiculous!

even my XR bought in 2020 works all fine except i smashed it a dozen times thrown it, that made it loose the network chip and thus cellular doesnt works ever. i carry this along with dumb phone for calling. its 2024, and it will last i guess 2026. Camera perfect as well the entire back

Iphone XR user and such a great budget phone to this day and with IOS 18 coming for this phone as well , it's still capable to deliver about 1-2 years more of use .

Changed my XR one week ago. Bought it in march 2019, it served well all those years. The battery was the original one, with 1800+ charge cycles. It lasted a decent amount of time for its wear! The phone itself worked well, it was overheating when using it for medium periods of time, sometimes it had some lags. But overall I wouldn’t have changed it if I didn’t find the 15 pro new at 400€ of discount. It was too good for not upgrade.

Same here, had mine around 3/4 yrs??! lost track of years, contrast invert changes, headache to fix sometimes, but decent phone@$210.00, I dropped it outside, parking lot, while waiting on a case/charger, small corner chip/ red.

I think Instagram in general takes more battery compared to other apps. I am using iPhone 14 and I can also see that the batter drains faster while using Instagram.

But as you said, it shouldn’t be bought anymore.
When looking for a good used iPhone I would suggest a 11 or 12(12 has oled display, better cameras, fast chip)

I used my XS Max from the first day it released up until may 2023 when I got my 14 pro max. The battery is still good runs down a lot faster now obviously since it’s over 6 years old. Only reason I got such a new phone was because of how much I dropped my XS max all through a span of almost 5 years which caused something to malfunction cellularly. Couldn’t get a bar anywhere unless I restarted it. But overall I still love the design of the XS max and use it here and there
I still use my iPhone XR, the first phone I ever purchased ever with my hard earned money back in 2018 , such an amazing phone and still is, it has since turned into an iPod basically since it has no service, soon enough it’s going to be my way of recording my content

im an iPhone XR user. I changed an original battery this new year eve. I can say that this phone is suitable for non heavy users even changing a new battery. Definitely the phone heats up while recording video and lags after some time of video recording. Same goes to gaming. But otherwise it's still a usable phone in 2024.
If you want a better experience with this phone, a battery replacement is recommended, especially replacing it with an original battery from Apple.

Can someone give me information about the battery life between the iPhone XS and XR? I want to buy an XS but if the battery of the XR model lasts better, I'm thinking of going with that one.

yooo i was waiting for this lmao, i bought mine five months ago and replaced the battery
the battery life sure isn’t the greatest but if you use low power mode all day long and don’t mind apps taking a few seconds to load it lasts a whole work day(10 hours) for me including a bit of gaming during my break. more or less 9 hours of SOT
Nice! I was considering using low power mode but I felt that it would hamper the performance even further…
@@Upwards._ it does indeed; low power mode mostly if not all the time would use efficiency cores, that said i had an iphone 8 beforehand not too long ago so the performance gains are still pretty solid to me.
idunno, nowadays i don’t pay too much attention to my phone model nor the specs as the xr seems to suit my needs even as a heavy ish user, almost 11 and a half hours SOT in the last ten days.
my one and only complaint right now is the storage, 64gb is still enough for me but the way ios17 manages app cache/data is horrible lmao, i have to reinstall social media once a month usually to free up some space
@@s1zdah206 interesting, yes I had a feeling it just used the efficiency cores. It’s pretty annoying that a lot of social media apps have so much cache. I guess it’s due to the amount of data that is stored over time…

Please I recently got a used 13PM. The phone is mint and does everything I want but the battery health is bad. I wanted to ask if on them newer iPhones (X and above) changing the battery really has any downside if doke right and has the BMS stuff done to retain the battery into. Are there any downsides or does the phone present any issues after getting it done ?

I’m using iphone 6s plus as daily driver. It gets my job done. But there are some app crashes that’s it.

One of my favorite iPhones ever. Had mine from 2018-2022 when I upgraded to a 13 just because the battery had severely degraded, one of the best iPhone cameras to me. Honestly would trade my 15 in and get a se 4 if it had this design. I never kept a iPhone as long as I had the XR.

Bro i don't know how your XR dropping battery that fast. i have it and it drain 4 percent in an hour while using it normally like using insta, RUclips Facebook, little bit gaming. BH is 100%
Bought my XR 2018 in that year, new.
Works slowly but I know it is time for a change.
Original battery is still at 92 percent, is remarkable.
But connectivity is “long in the tooth”.
Still addicted to the IOS Universe and so, no Android alternatives for me.
Waiting for SE4 for the March, 2025 release at $499 minimum price.
The battery does go to zero in four hours of use, and so, I have to take a couple of 10,000 mAh battery packs with me on a day trip.
From what I have read,Apple states that you need a minimum of an A-17 chip to run their AI and the computations are done by the phone itself. I would not pretend to run that AI with my XR.
SE4 and the IPhone 16 and beyond fits that requirement.
