Xr owner here, its laggy, the battery struggles to keep up, and if paired with an apple watch, siri is super responsive, but thats the only benefit, and that the battery drains excessively fast (currently charging my Xr for the second time today and its noon)
I’ve just bought a used iPhone XR for 30€ and I think it’s smooth but the charging speed is much slower than on my Xiaomi that broke and the battery is equally bad except in standby there it’s way better than the Xiaomi (it was a xiaomi mi 11 and it broke over night while charging I and could boot anymore)

The iPhone 12 could even get to iOS 22 and then stop along with the “basic” iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 with iOS 23! Moral of the story, we could really get to 9-10 years of support!

Most of the features that it doesn’t support are stuff most people would never need or care about. It also runs really well...hopefully it gets iOS 19 and they don’t drop it early like they did the X.
If we want to future proof the next iphone we buy if we plan on keeping it for a long time, should we then opt for the plus and max models since they have bigger batteries so it’s gonna take longer time for the battery to be really bad?
In 2027, all phones in the EU are required to have user replaceable batteries, hence, you won't even have to replace your battery through Apple anymore, you can do it yourself. More reasons to keep your iphone and not upgrade, which is awesome, for the consumers and for the environment!✌🏻

I actually like the iOS 18 on my iPhone XR. It is pretty solid at the moment when it comes to beat us by position might be a little bit faster similar to iOS 17 either way I like it.

@@pvkom26 well in public beta three at The had an issue but now a public beta four is doing a lot fine which is surprising. and I suppose the only feature I can only say I do like a little bit is a new feature in Wi-Fi if you go to Wi-Fi settings click on edit or click on the network you are connected to. There’s a new option that says Wi-Fi. I forgot what it was but I need to take a look at the settings again before I could say something. Not to mention each setting you click on at least some of them they change the entire setting app. The list is completely different compared to the iOS 17 and older and put a lot of Worthing in it. and they. have the same voices for VoiceOver and the router options which means if you click on add loader voice you can actually pick the same ones over and over and you can add more quite similar to the old-fashioned way of VoiceOver but this time you can add more voices and this time they even added the voice tutorial instead of the practice so if you are interested of using VoiceOver a few times then tutorial is kind of perfect for you. but I actually don’t not like the new changes that make on VoiceOver when you click on accessibility click on VoiceOver click on speech you can see that the page is completely different. Are you running? iOS 17 once you upgrade you will see what I mean and the voice page, well the page for the VoiceOver for the voices. It looks similar to iOS 15 so I suppose I do like it and he’s the funny part they got two new voices that I heard it supposed to be coming with iOS 16 but it didn’t that is the regular default Nikki and the premium of Zoe. I use it as a side device. Performance isn't the greatest but it's absolutely usable. I daily drive an iPhone 12 which does have much better performance, also running iOS 18, even that is starting to feel a bit slow sometimes a new battery in the iPhone 12 would definitely go to helping that performance out though. Both the devices are actually on 18.1.1.
I have an iPhone Xr It might be time for me to finally upgrade. My battery won't last, I gotta charge my phone at least two times a day and it lags a lot. I feel like iOS 18 will only accelerate old iPhone's death lol. So yeah I think it's time to upgrade

It was nice to see iPhone XR running iOS 18 so smoothly. I’m not going to update mine this fall - last year’s iOS 17 was disastrous on my phone causing serious issues with camera, to the point where I couldn’t take pictures with it for the first couple updates. Given that I don’t want to get a new phone for at least another year, I better play it safe and stay on the last stable iOS 17 release they put out until at least iPhone SE 2025 comes out. The thing with the phones right now, they are all racing to deliver the AI features. iPhone 15 and earlier is pretty much useless in that regard. iPhone 15 Pro is undercut by iPhone 16 series, which are rumoured to be released with 8Gb each, and are in turn undercut by iPhone SE 2025 releasing with the same 8Gb and a very attractive price few months later. And iPhone 17 is rumoured to bump RAM to 12 Gb on Pro models. Google is quite advanced in the area, and constant bugs on iOS do sometimes make me think of moving back to Android. While Pixel 9 presentation was underwhelming (most of AI stuff is quite useless, albeit impressive), it does show how quickly things are changing in smartphone world today. Pixel 9 Pro is 3x faster at AI performance than 8Pro, which was released less than a year ago. So yeah, it’s great to see phones lasting for 7 years now, I believe that right now is not the best time to get a new one. Next year will provide more options to choose from and, in case with Apple specifically, finally deliver a proper look at Apple Intelligence.
@@pvkom26 true I did saw multiple problems on my 10 as well when I was 17 and then everything got fixed over time but iOS 17.4 and now be of 18 and is not so bad but like you said do what’s best for you and your phone, but do you have a guest that the last iOS 17 Support update might be 17.7.2? and like you said, I might consider what your back because this thing is way too much. so I might switch back to android one day.
@@david_bopit_music11it’s hard to predict the numbers of the last iOS 17 update. Because all iPhones that are running on iOS 17 get access to iOS 18, it may very well be that iOS 17.7 won’t come out. But I think it probably will. Apple knows that there will be bugs at launch and many people won’t update to iOS 18 right away. But in any case - no new features for iOS17 for sure. Whatever else this version of the OS will get will be small bug fixes and security improvements.
@@pvkom26 trail all these features are officially finished so far I’m testing iOS 18.0 on my iPhone XR and testing iPadOS 18.0 on my iPad seventh generation luckily I have a couple backups of the iPad seven when I was 17.6.1 so I can keep my backup devices running iOS 17 for a while until they fix the speed issue of VoiceOver scrolling because I was 18 is kinda laggy but it’s still pretty stable
I do think the game mode can be a solution for phone like XR only has 3GB of RAM(not ROM). Hopefully it will solve my problem. However, AI is a good new feature but no rush to use it for daily life so my next upgrade maybe target to iPhone 14 instead of 16 for I still don't want to upgrade to type C phone yet.

Although three years ago, in 2021, the iPad Air 2, which was introduced in 2014, had iOS 8, but it itself received updates up to iPad iOS 15.
I’m using mine after 6 years on iOS 18 and 76% bh and still holds up well

I had the same issue, I reset the phone to factory and got a new battery and haven’t had an issue since, feels super snappy and responsive.

I upgrade for the hardware not software.
For example the display, the CPU, The cameras, dynamic island, better design, better battery.
