Calumet 16 Whiskey Review! Breaking the seal EP

- We scored a Calumet 16 and couldn't wait to crack this one open. Dan loved last years while I was not impressed with the cherry cough syrup. Hopefully this year can dial that back a bit!

I just found a Calumet 16 tonight for $138! I was so pumped! Bought it right away!
Love the 15, love that they are continuing to not chill filter, this is going to the top of my to find list
Purchased my first bottle today. Very nice pour extremely pleased with the nose and flavor profile. Thanks for convincing me .
FYI… I read the little captions under your names every video. It is one of my favorite parts to wait and see each video for some reason.
Same
thanks bourbon gays! really love how you guys support the community!
Saying this one is better than all the Sam Houstons you have had is a big statement. I love the SH15s I have had, already finished 4 bottles! This one is a definite buy now
That Sam 15 is hard to beat in my book but this CF 16 is creeping up there for me.
Just ordered 3 bottles last Friday...
Can't wait to try!
I really liked the 15yr, especially about halfway down the bottle.
I got a bottle of this a couple week ago, and I’m savoring it. Man is it good. A top notch bourbon in my opinion.
I have the 15 and I like it, the flavor notes on this one sounds very similar but that's to be expected. Good review guys , Cheers 🍻
I love the B roll on a completely dry box & then cut back to complete devastation from the interrupted long pour
I've been waiting for your review after the last mention. Pulled the triggy. Can't wait to try it. Cheers!
C16 is fantastic! Agree, best of the Calumets & Sam Houston’s. I’ve got a C16 opened and another bunkered! I’ve found them for about $160
My bottle of the 15 just arrived today. Had to get it via secondary (living in Canada has its drawbacks), but I'm excited to crack it. If I see the 16 come up on secondary here for a half decent price, I'll likely grab it as well.
Calumet 14 was one of my first “hitters” for me in my not so long journey in Bourbon. Glad to see the 16 worth picking up!
@@dronepocket325 Indeed.
Great review. Reminded me I have a Calumet 15 to open. Cheers!
I really liked the 16. Both me and my dad agreed it was closer to the 15 than the 14 was to the 15. I didn't really get medicinal cherry on the 15 (had 2 different batches) but I also like that note, as long as it's not over powering.
Looks like I’ll definitely be adding this to the hunt list!
Was able to get one, surprisingly for my area at I think 159.00 have not opened it yet, may go get a other. Thanks guys. 🥃
just picked up the 16 for $144.99 think it's a steal. great btl, love it
picking this up next hunt! Thanks guys!
That intro was Dan's version of "POOOOOOUUUUR GUESSES!!!!"
I just bought a bottle today 7.17.22 $139.99. I bought it for a bday gift for myself 7.31.22. Can't wait to try.
Nice review! My bottle has been opened for 8 months and it’s still hot and not a lot of flavor. My Sam Houston 14 is really nice! Talking cake, when I was a kid in the 70’s my dad used to splash a little bourbon over a scoop of vanilla ice cream! I might have to try cake and ice cream now:)
Just got the 15 today. Paid retail. I've gotten 2 Sam Houston 15s and a Sam Houstons 14.
I read the new note under your names every week lol
Had the 14 it was good. Then the 15 which I have been slow walking to not finish and it was much better than the 14. Just picked up the 16, not cracked, can't wait.
I loved the 15, but I get a heavy chocolate on it. I am gonna try it again to see if I taste the cherry.
At first, I didn't like the 15 either. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't worth the money. I put it away and came back about a month later. What a difference. It was really good.
I just picked up my bottle in SoCal, it's retailing here for $135 at the Total Wines. I had a 10% off coupon, so I got a hell of a bargain. The shelf was stocked with them.
there small batch is solid for the price also big fan of there wiskeys
My liquor store got 3 cases of this and I bought one first day
Dan’s intro in this video is pure chaos and it’s seriously so hilarious! Also here to say calumet 16 is insanely good. Justified price tag especially when the bourbon market commands $150+ from bottles that are truly only $50 at MSRP
Awesome! Finally a bottle i dont have to ask for it should be on the shelves at Chicago Binnys at $149. This place usually sells bottles for retail only never marked up. Just scored a Small batch EH Taylor for $45 from them. You guys making me spend alot of money recently 😂
The 16 is at costco for 125 right now.
14 year is a favorite of mine. Amazing
Also available
Wasn’t a big fan of 14 so I skipped the 15. Might need to snag this one to see how it rates.
In Cal15 defense, I’m half way down the bottle and the cherry died down a lot and I love it now (not off the rip tho.) I’m shoulder into a cal16 and the 16 is def a dusty Rickhouse but pecan pie on the nose. Little spice on the leave but it’s pretty damn good. Def complex and nice. 🥃
Saw C16 on the shelf beside C15 today. Remembered this review and grabbed the 16 year for 136 🦌. Thanks guys!!!
Was it worth it ? Just passed on one for $130 . Having regrets
@@davidatac9738 it’s incredible. I’ve gone back and bunkered a couple of bottles since then 🥃🥃🥃
Surprised you guys didn’t get any strawberry notes from it! Sampled the 16 year and that’s all I got with hints of sweet oak and vanilla
I got a dark chocolate smell and taste from this. Enjoyed it quite a bit.
Love 14, 15 was not as good...can't wait to get this 16. I love the 14...
The small print comments under your names have become must see. Yes, I read them
Just pulled the trigger when I saw it at $160. Worried id never see it again!
Stellum rye slaps. Especially the black. Can you review?
I found the 14 yesterday at $130
Wonder how it lines up with these 2
17 comes out this year!!
I had no idea Sam Houston and Calumet were so related! Awesome. I love Sam Houston. I love Calumet 15. I see Calumet all the time...I rarely see Sam Houston. Looks like I can pretty much just get Calumet (or at least not be sad with no SH). :)
Dan... like there's Cake just lying around my house....Cake disappears faster than anything in my house, and I def am not leaving any just lying around. Can't wait to try the 16.... off to get more cake have a great day......
I read the tag lines or whatever you wanna call them haha Nice review!
well thank you!
The 15y Calumet was a bit funky on the neck pour. Wasn't impressed. Put it away and came back to it a month or so later and it changed. Ended up being one of my favorite bottles. Then, I got a 16y and it blows the 15 away. Gonna get another if I see it. Got mine for 140. I would pay up to 175.
Best o have ever tasted
Been trying to find this one, not much luck yet. I can find the 14 and 15 all day around here.
Same. Weirdly, the 14 is $115 here and the 15 is only $100.
@@phychmasher The 15 year is 107 here, the 14 is 115 for some reason.
Hmm, I scoffed when I saw the 16 for $175 at my local yesterday..I’ll be right back
it's seriously going to be one of the better releases this year I think
I gotta say idk where you guys are picking up these different flavors.
I think you should do another video on how to pick up on different flavor notes.
It's all food!
I finally opened 16. Once I aired out I got a good caramel finish. May not get it again
I loved the 14 &15. I have 1 bottle of 14 two bottles of 15 left. I also have two bottles of the 16 coming. Can’t wait.
Update. I have gone through 4 bottles of this over the summer. This is absolutely my favorite of the year!
Does this mean you're not finishing that 15 yr? I call dibs!
Dan still likes it, all his!
Sean looks like Bill Hader doing a Sean impersonation.
Wooo
Dan we did read that and I hope people spell Sean’s name correctly
Shawn…I read them ;^}
I see what ya did there
I definitely prefer the 15 to the 16 - but I’m fine with the cherry bomb of the 15. The 16 is OK, but for me, it’s on the cusp of being too oaky/bitter. So, for me - I’ll keep buying the 15.
The 14 was a cherry bomb too, very good.
The 16 is significantly better than the 15.
@@judahlion5826 It's almost like people have different palates and therefore different opinions lol
It’s all subjective. I personally enjoy a more oakie, astringent bourbon with a long finish.
I just got the 16 for $119.97
I got it ... the 'long pour" is just colored water & a camera trick. Right?
ya know wish it was sometimes, we've for sure used prop whiskey in photos/videos before but not in reviews
I'll have the spill please
I took Dan suggestion the other day and started looking for one. And was able to find a 16. Thanks to the Franch. Great video. Cheers Boys
hope you enjoy it as much as we do
Hmmmm. Sounds good but 150 is a stretch for me. Ill have to make a decision
we've bought so many worse bottles for more, I think this will be top 10 this year for us if that helps any
@@BourbonJunkies yeah i cant say the same though. Ive only spent over 150 once and it was a magnus cigar blend
The only downside to this bottle is that at the end of the finish it turns semi astringent. It's a little detail that stands proud of the otherwise outstanding showing this bottle provides, and only because it's at the very end. Still a strong buy.
So whats the over/under on how many $$$ were sacrificed to the table....I'm going $20
in spilled whiskey? I mean we've been at this set for well over a year now so it's well over that.
@@BourbonJunkies for sure, there’s hundreds (thousands?!?!) of dollars on that table. I meant just in the first 30 seconds of this video🤣
Saw this at my local shop the other day for the same price, saw the low 106 proof and put it back down, can just buy 3 bottles of OF 1920 at that ridiculous price, big no for me.
To my understanding there will NOT be another Sam Houston release. All the SH barrels will be used for Calumet from here on out. Just got this bottle and cant wait to crack it.
I have heard the same
Makes sense, same blending house- no reason to cannibalize business
I have the 15
One of the most disappointing purchases I have ever made.
@@BourbonForageFishing well thanks for this. I was just looking at the 15 today considering dropping the $100+
@@lbartlett2009
No problem man. Definitely want to protect people from what I consider bad Whiskey. Was not at all impressed. Nor were the 4 or 5 people I shared it with.
Best part of each of these videos??? Dan’s hair is getting longer and it’s looking THICCC’er than it was before!!!
and whiter
new game: take a drink every time Dan says "Hyper."
it was good knowing anyone that plays this game
@@BourbonJunkies did I miss the boat? was this already a thing? lol
No you will just die if you play that game
Some might say this game would cause hyper inebriation.
$150 around here
Was literally smoking my pipe when I watched this.
Just picked one up for $150.00
Does this review even count since Dan failed to mention the relationship between Japanese whiskey and Scotch?
Dans use of the word hyper recently makes me totally understand why Sean wants to unalive him so often.
I notice we both get on kicks like that when I'm editing, it's just funny to me.
All I get is cherry and oak, much like my SH 15. I would have to pass if I saw it again. Too many hitters in the 100-175 price point
see I think the sweet oak is why I love it so much. The cherry is dialed back from the 15 a lot, and it's just a fucking killer pour for me.
@@BourbonJunkies hoping it opens up a bit. It was a fresh crack. Going to try again this weekend
@@TheRealJeremyHedman Any Calumet or Sam Houston needs like a week to open up. Trust me, it gets better with time.
Pray to god you don’t drop that yellowcake.
You don't put one step forward into the Longhorn State and not be lectured on Sam Houston. Period. And by the bye, there will be a quiz afterward the outcome of which will determine whether or not you're staying. Yeah ... it's ah different out in Texas.
Is SH even available in TX? I've never seen it in Houston, oddly enough, lol.
Costco 16 is 128.99
Bought it tonight! Popping it when I get 🏡
Paid 169 today for this.
Your video's always see a little dark in terms of brightness. Does anyone else experience that as well?
are you talking like all of our videos across the board?
@@BourbonJunkies yes. At least for me they seem a little dark!
Just found the 16 and it’s fantastic. I grabbed it for 130. It’s better than the 15 and I really liked the 15. There were 4 more bottles at the store so I’m going back to get the rest.
Sean is A Cake-Hater~!!!
Oh really no one still reads them?🧐
I mean I've been doing them for years and the amount of people that spell Sean wrong would argue that for me
@@BourbonJunkies might be simply out of spite for Shawn
First!
First to reply on your first, lol
no one reads these. there still spelling my name wrong.
I gotta disagree big time on this one. Yes, the nose is fantastic, but the palate and finish fail to follow through. It reminds me a whole lot of Booker's 2021-3 on the nose, but the Booker's impresses from beginning to end as opposed to this. Save your money folks. It's a buy at $80, but that'll never happen.
I felt the same on the neck pour of my C16. Then came back to it two weeks later and 🤩 The viscosity and exceptional mouthfeel was there along with a great balance of well aged flavors
@@gregs7375 thanks for the heads up. I'll be sure to revisit this weekend and see what happens.
Meat....
15 is garbage.
I highly recommend NOT buying it.
Overpriced junk...
