My Sketchbook March to April '23

- Here is what I saw and did during the two months from early March until late April 2023. The thing about sketching is that you have a colourful and very creative record, nearoy day-by-day in mnay cases (like mine) of your life. I love to flick through my sketchbooks and relive the places I have sketched. My favourite sketches by far in this book are (as always) the ones of my kids. I guess that will never change.
I hope you enjoy my mini-exhibition. I must add that I am so grateful to have RUclips to show my work, because as a sketchbook artist I will never have an exhibition of any other kind.
Remember, you can join me in class twice a week, every week, or in the replay if you can't make the live broadcast. I look forward to sharing my colourful and creative techniques with you - and helping you find your own voice as a sketcher too.

Blimey! This is a discovery. Fantastic channel.
Thanks Robert! That means so much. Welcome!
I thoroughly enjoyed your journal flip through. Your honest at the end made my evening. “9 out of 10 I drive”
Gotta be honest Nichola! And thanks!

I enjoyed this. Thank you!
Thanks for saying so!
I like your sketchbook tours, especially when I see paintings that I have watched in progress.
Thanks Roger, I wondered about that - would it be boring to see the same thing again? Delighted you like the finished pieces together.
Wow! Your art is stunning! Reflects true talent. Very interesting and inspiring! Subscribed!!!💐
Thank you Tyra! More on the way - ink is up for discussion next 😃
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful Roisin, you are incredibly blessed to be able to create all that lovely artwork and all in one month. WOW. Love listening to your voice over.
Thanks so much Kerrie. It does bring me so much joy. There was a time I resented not having achieved fame and fortune but then I copped myself on and remembered that I live immersed in beauty through sketching, all the time. After that I had peace (for a while anyway!)
Lord 😮 I don’t know what to say. It’s more than amazing dear
Thanks so much Eve! So kind!
Loved looking at your sketchbook. The paintings were so pretty!

A pleasure! ❤
Excellent! I specially love the detailing, branches, folds on the cap..life drawings are inspiring always.
Thanks so much Wacky! I love those details too!
I absolutely love your sketch book!!!!🌹
Thank you Becky!
Painters often get very pretentious about how one captures essence and the soul of a person, but you proved that you can do it with anything at 2:47. you can feel the motion of her rolling the dough. You can see she is determined, but the action also is relaxing and you can feel how relaxed and proud the boyfriend is. That is amazing. Your drawing at 0:41 looks amazing. I am a photographer and also like to draw and am hoping that when i push myself i can create the magic plein air sketchers and painters do, but from photos. Your stuff is amazing Roisin.
Thank you DeVerne! You’re 100% correct about capturing the “soul” - there’s nothing mystical, all you can do is draw what’s there - and only the most skilful can do that. The only reason I can do that is that I have drawn for fifty years! (Lots get there more quickly!) I also take no prisoners when it comes to being honest when I’m looking and I make micro measurements by eye. No magic involved but loads of skill. I very much appreciate your kind words and I wish you lots of success with your photography.
Absolutely gorgeous art! ❤ You had me laughing many times! I love your humour…and your honesty!😂
Thank you so much Renée! I love having the chance to do this 🤩😍
Wow ! Just beautiful, and very inspiring. Thank-you for sharing !
You’re welcome Nahima, delighted you enjoyed it!

Hiya Iv just found your channel,, wow what an amazing sketchbook and I really really love your style of sketching and watercolour … Iv subscribed and look forward to watching more of your videos 😊👍
Thanks so much ink2 art! More on the way! 😃🤩
Great! Inspiring! And now subscribed!
Welcome Bob - and thank you!
everything looks so good:) Your use of color is amazing and I love how behind every little drawing is a story. You sound like such a sweet person😊
I am very sweet! Lol! Seriously, thanks so much ❤️🤩
Fabulous work. Just the feel of pen and wash that I love. Lovely deep tonality too. And your feel for typography is excellent. Looks to me as if you have a graphic design background like me - 40 year career, now semi retired but selling watercolours through my Etsy shop. I came across this video and I've subscribed on the strength of it!
Thanks Ian! Oh if only you knew…No background whatsoever other than a year in art college at the age of seventeen. At the end of that year, and forever afterwards, it was wall-to-wall rejection. Takes a toll on any artist and it took me a long time to realise I’d dodged a bullet, because it’s much better to do your own thing, if you can keep your mojo flowing in the face of “no thanks” from the whole world! I have my own little tribe across the world now and we are very happy doing what we love, which is sketching from life.
It inspires me to grab my fude pen and fill it with my brown ink again. ❤
Yes! Try it!
I love your work!
Thank you Suzie! Much appreciated!
Brilliant sketchbook. Subscribed.
Thanks Akanksha! Welcome!
@@roisincure From wherehave you purchased the small empty palette?
@@akanksharastogi_03 I made that myself! They’re in my shop on my website - and I did a short yesterday with the link in the description.
you are delightful! subscribed. not done much with my channel, but I'm about two thirds through with my sketchbook (Strathmore Multimedia) and a group I belong to, Daily Drawing Challenge. When done I will give my first sketchbook tour.
I had my channel for ten flipping years just sitting there. I worked the heck out of Instagram and the growth was glacial - here you get out of it what you put in. So go for it!
Lovely work
Thank you!
I love flip throughs of sketchbooks , what a great variety of colours , I loved the muted colours of the Urban set , are these from Schminke or did you put them together yourself ? May I ask which purple colour you use in your pen ? I just came across your channel and I subscribed as I loved it immediately . Thanks for sharing 🙏🏻
You are most welcome ! I might actually do an entire video on different colours of ink and what I like them for - inspired by your comment! So thank you!
What sketchbook are you using please? It looks lovely! This popped into my feed and I immediately subscribed.
Hi Stargrace, it’s Hahnemuehle but all the brands and tools I use are always at the end of my (other) videos. I forgot this time for some reason!
Lovely sketches! May i know what sketchbook you use?
It's a Hahnemeuhle 200g sketchbook and thank you!
up lifting...very good
Thanks PJ! 🥰
I'm enjoying your videos.
But I'm sad that you think you won't every have a sketchbook show. I only make art in sketchbooks and I've been in at least 6 shows plus I have a current solo show in my local community college. The group shows were organized by the Urban Sketchers chapters to which I belong. We could hang originals or prints. I make my own sketchbooks with a disc bound method. So my pages are loose.
My pages aren’t loose and will never leave my sketchbooks. To be honest, I reach far more people through RUclips than I could ever dream of with an exhibition - and in my case people can actually get to know me through my classes, which are (as you know) priced to be accessible to everyone. I am proud to democratise top-level art, it’s a wonderful way to give back.
I always enjoy your videos Roisin. Can you tell me - is the purple ink waterproof? I wasn't sure if you inked then watercolored or the reverse. Side note- we're having trouble with our 2 Jack Russells males too, who have also decided to compete for territory in the house since a Great Dane female moved in next door. Need to get doggie diapers for them now!
Oh Gone Coastal I really sympathise. Last night our boy was clearly distressed, pacing everywhere, because he so badly wanted to mark but couldn’t as he was in his nappy. My husband said “That’s tough” but I feel sorry for him. Ink-specific video on the way. Probably tomorrow.
What sketchbook did you use? :)
Check out any of my other videos!
Smashing Sketchbook, you should be very proud! Is it a moleskin one, if so, what size please?
Thanks Catherine. The kit I use is at the end of all my videos, I didn’t include it with this one for some reason. Check out any of them. I can’t stand Moleskine, it has (or had) some kind of size on the paper that hinders absorption of the watercolour.
@@roisincure thank you Roisin. :-)
Is there a name for that style please?
No Eve, I am very lucky to live in a country where the kind of thing I do doesn’t have any place in the official canon. The result is that my voice has developed in isolation, and as a result is complete unique.
Someone's got too much time on her hands.
It's my job! I am lucky enough that my passion is also my living.
aw man! you’ve drawn the muscles so well!! they look tasty ! sadly i can’t eat them! wonderful art much love ❤️💕
Thank you Slushi. Don’t worry, I draw everything, you’re bound to find a sketch of something that will have you running to the kitchen sooner or later!
