This quote stood out to me too. I think this is something I have learned the past year of sketching. Teoh has made videos about this, and people at my local urban sketchers chapter definitely talk about sketchbook size and how it affects your sketches. It’s so interesting.
Oh wow, skimming thru, looks like I missed this video the first time! Glad I found another to watch! Vey interesting and Ben's sketchbook is really nice!! Thank you!❤
Why not! I would of loved being there, I’m not very experienced but I’m sure there were others there that weren’t as well.. artists support each other no matter what.. expensive to go though, I’m sure.
0:50 seagulls are quite aggresive and fast. In the town where I live, on the big marketplace, there are stalls where fish is sold (both fresh and cooked, ready to consume). And a lot of seagulls, too. They will snatch the fish from your plate if you don't watch out! Also a lot of pigeons, they're more like flying rats. Thanks for the video! Interesting sketchbook tour.
PARKAAA I was watching "Live at USk Symposium Auckland" video you have in the channel and the "big sketchbook guy" was there in the minute 42:41 with the big sketchbook!! 😮 hahahhahah
A large sketchbook is such a jump back to the old school painters who used to bring large canvas out of doors. in my opinion it does not seem travel friendly however, it does open up your imagination and mind.
Great job with all of your videos during the entire symposium. Very inspiring and made me nostalgic to return to Auckland. Can you provide any links to Diamond’s online work? I didn’t catch his full name and I would love to see more if his work.
Wow such a great adventure! Would love it if they did one again in Manchester UK!! I missed it last time 😢 been thinking about using a bigger sketchbook 🤔 Thanks for the insights 👍👍👍
Thank you for all the videos you have given us over the symposium, it's great to feel part of it. What is the name of your small palette with the integrated water container?
Someone mention it's Schmincke, but it's actually a generic 12-pan metal box with integrated water bottle that's sold by many brands, including Winsor Newton. You may be able to buy an empty box too.
Teoh- was his sketchbook something you can buy commercially? It looked A3 to me but I’ve never seen a sketchbook that size. I have few A4 sketchbooks and have thought about trying to bind a larger one myself- but I’ll be honest… I don’t want to😂. This was a fun video- thank you!
I think I might just pull out my large sketch books and give them a whirl. Why keep them on the shelf and never use them? Was the paper he was using strictly sketch or could it be used for watercolor? Who manufactured his book? His ideas were interesting and I agree in that the last time I took one of my large sketch outdoors I did accumulate more onlookers than normal. Some of the food I saw was rather interesting. What was the food that appears to be squash or pumpkin? It appeared to be orange or orange-brown and sauce-like. Again, thank you for showing us more of New Zealand. I just wish you had been able to show more of the country side. From what I hear and have seen in pictures it can be very beautiful (thus sketch-able). -OkieSketcher1949
Looked like a Strathmore Mixed Media 11x14. I love them. 100% cotton paper but pricey. Edited: on second glance, it wasn't, but do check out that Strathmore. I have been very pleased with them.
@@lightwavz Thank you for the tip. I know right where to go to get one once I’ve finished the one I have already. It was a Christmas present. I’ve had it a good ten years or more and I doubt I’ve used more than two or three pages.
@@OkieSketcher1949 Any time! I am shy of using mine, but I am going to pull it back out and fill it after this video! Teoh always knows how to get us inspired!
@@lightwavz I’ve been following Teoh for several years now. In fact I have to blame him for getting me into Urban Sketching! I really liked what he did, how he did it, and all the tips he passed out. His videos are normally the first ones I look for when I sign into You Tube. Because of him I have been turning many of my older pen and ink sketches into pen and ink watercolor washes. Now I often take my new pen and ink sketches one step further by adding water color. I hope he never retires from You Tube. -OkieSketcher1949
"The size of the page has something to teach us." Wow, I loved the section on using a larger sketchbook.
Thanks for this video!!
100%! let the white space as it is... Do less is more ^^

That's a beautiful sketchbook! And looks like a really lovely event, thank you for bringing us along ☺
Ben's sketchbook is so beautiful!! I love his collages bringing food, people, and the environment all together. Thanks for sharing!

This looks so fun! I'm not an urban sketcher at all, but it does make you want to go to such a symposium and just try :)

Really fun and interesting - thanks!

So glad you are having a wonderful time! That seagull "gang" looks pretty tough! Stay safe and thank you for sharing.
8:52 awesome tour!
You have worked so hard on these videos, I loved watching them all. Thanks to you! 😽😽
Great video. Your sketch of the Town Hall is fabulous.
Love the food and banter with fellow sketchers.
loved this. Felt like I was there. Thanks so much
Wonderful ❤ thank you for sharing.
That was wonderful, thank you!
Black ink plume and watercolor is the BEST! Love it! Reminds me of Moebius (Jean Giraud) best years in his SF and Blueberry work.
Loved the kid with a tshirt ‘just chill bro’ shouting and stamping at some seagulls. Haha.
Awesome video. Thank you for sharing.
I love all your videos. I am always inspired to do art. Thank you.

Thank you for sharing. I love all your videos, and you always make a good job, both, like an artist and like a youtuber. 👍🙂
If I had tons of space to work in, I would draw on big paper all the time. The strokes are much nicer when you can get your full arm involved.

Aww so glad your camera lasted through the symposium
You should definitely try water brush pen because it is more convenient
Whose Baohong sketchbook was the flip-through at the end? Thanks for sharing with us.

Teoh, pop out to West Auckland on the train to Ranui
❤
given the cost of watercolor brushes as they go up in size, its no wonder you rarely see large sketchbooks

Baohong sketchbook. It's very good.
