Hey... First off, thanks for the video. I was originally going to pay someone to change the oil in my XT250 for me, but you've convinced me it's a better investment to buy the tools and do it myself. Happy to support your time for making the video.
I totally understand. I used to ride a motorcycle long distances to work, college, etc. Now I just ride this one slowly in the woods, and occasionally on the road to get from trail to trail.
Waiting for my 2022 XT250 to arrive in March . Out here gathering all the information I can for maintenance and mods etc.. thanks for sharing your video, looks like a low maintenance bike , easy to work on .
Welcome! The XT250 is a super reliable and easy bike to maintain. You're going to love it! Mine is 100% stock and I have had no complaints and zero issues with it. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@PurpleCollarLife I’m going to try and keep it as close to stock as possible. Wider foot pegs , skid plate , bark busters and a wind screen and small rack on the back , small tank bag , and some better tires once I wear out the factory ones . That’s what I’ve come up with so far .
Concerned you did not speak to changing the crush washer or o rings around the filter. These also need to be changed out - perhaps not every oil change but at least every other change.
Hello! Thanks for watching and commenting. Are you talking about the o-ring that is in the "cap" of the filter housing that you remove to replace the filter? And with the crush washer, are you talking about the one on the drain plug?
They need to be checked as they get larger, but if they're still OK and not decades old they'll probably be OK. If you check for leaks that pretty much covers any issues. I check after every ride.
@@PurpleCollarLife It's also an Enduro but it's from the 80s, 600cc single cylinder and kickstart only for early models... Search it on Google, there are plenty images of it, according to my dad it was quite popular in Europe at the time, very reliable machines. He bought it only a few month ago and made it roadworthy... Have a nice day!
Does your XT250 have a ticking noise from the top end once it gets warm? I have a very new 2022 50miles XT250 and it has a good ticking noise once it warms up but runs Fine, it’s just rather loud and I am wondering what it is. Trying to decide if I should take it for warranty work
Hello - maybe a slight tick, but not much. It could be that your new 2022 XT250 needs the valves adjusted? And maybe once you change out the oil the first time, it'll go away or get better. I'd suggest those two things - or simply call the dealer and see what the service manager recommends. Around here, there's only a few good weeks of riding left (and the best time - when the leaves are changing), so I'd hate to be without the XT250 because it's at a shop.
Great video! Where are some of the best places to ride? I'm in Buffalo NY and there doesn't seem to be a lot of good options other then jetting over to Area 51 and going a little bananas on the track there (they do a great job). But it's not the same as trail riding of course. :)
Hello! Thanks for watching and commenting. The Allegheny National Forest in northern PA is a great riding area for trails. Fortunately, we have enough land around us with trails that I don't need to travel to do some trail riding.
Thanks so much, very thorough and on point.
You're very welcome! Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment. We appreciate it.
Thanks for the video.
You are welcome! Glad it was helpful.
I change my oil before storing. Don't want the sediments settling. But at least you change the oil. Some people have never heard of the practice.
You make a good point!

Glad I could help! I enjoy doing it myself. Glad you're going to give it a try. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment.
My dad had a 1974 Yamaha, he used to take us for rides all the time. 😎 You've got an awesome bike! 👍
Thanks! It’s a fun one for me. I mostly just put through the woods on trails.
My nephew just bought one and I told him the same thing. '76 model in our case.
That looks fun to ride
It's a great bike! Nice and light weight, runs for ever on tiny amounts of gasoline, and perfect on trails in the woods.
I used 1 quart 12 ounces and after running it was right in between the lines
Thanks!
Perfect timing! Great bike.
Indeed it is!
My kind of stuff. Nice bike👍👋
Thanks! I really enjoy the dual sport bikes. I liked the WR250R too, but the XT250 is the perfect seat height for me.
Thank you for your help, we really appreciate it here.
Our pleasure! Tell us about your XT250. How long have you had it, what do you think so far?
I remember my bike, I miss it but having these girls of mine made me change my interests, now I have tractors. Looks like a blast! Jason

Приветствую вас , у меня раньше был мотоцикл,, Урал
Thanks for watching and commenting! I mostly just ride the trails around our house with the Yamaha XT250. It's an excellent trail bike.

Nice bike, my father has a XT600!
I’ve never seen the XT600 around here. Does it look similar?

I looked it up. That’s a really cool machine!

@@PurpleCollarLife Good advice, thank you very much!
Valve clearances need checking.
Coolacious
Thanks!
Oil filter cover hex/cap head bolt torque should be 7 inch pounds or 7 foot pounds?
According to the manual that came with my bike, it's 7.2 ft/lbs.
