***UPDATE *** Turns out my throttle grip was not properly installed and pushed all the way on from the factory. This made the gap and really allowed the leaf ring to dance around. After Chunkynugget666 shared some insight I went out and wrestled my grip over more. Now it looks proper with no big gap and the leaf ring is not dancing around.
Sorry about your lower back issues, but hopefully a different seat will give you more comfort so you can ride with ease. All of your accessory choices look great and really added to the classy appearance of the bike. I hadn't seen the Puig extender before. What a good option vs buying another windscreen! By the way, looking at motorcycles is never boring for me! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks again Terry 🙂! I've put my orthopedic doctors kids through college for sure 😅. I have been sent some seat material samples from Corbin to try and select a practical yet bling worthy look combo. Really appreciate your thoughts and feedback 🙏
I had a Corbin seat custom made at Corbin in Hollister for my CRF230L and am quite happy with how it turned out. Much more comfortable than the factory seat for the 230L which was like sitting on a 2 x 4.
@GenX80sKid I verified by calling Delkevic directly the ecu nor air intake had to be modified. So just plug and play. This is my second Delkevic on two separate XT250's and never had any issues just swapping out the oem for the Delkevic. Hope this information helps.
@@findingneutral awesome , I'll be making the swap when the time comes, full exhaust system replacement exactly like the one you showcase as it looks and sounds BADASS !!
I did a little research and discovered the little plastic disc on the throttle tube is called a Leaf Ring by Yamaha and can be seen on a schematic on Revzilla parts on handlebar controls. From what I read on a thread it's desigbed to prevent your rubber grip from getting stuck or rubbing on the control cluster whilst cranking on the throttle. I went to my dealer and found another new 2022 Yamaha XT250 on the showroom and it was exactly the same as mine.
Appreciate your research! I know the first dealer i went to - only 1 XT250 had the left side disk loose. The other XT next to it didn’t. And i remember taking notice on the RIGHT grip, and remember nothing being loose. I was LOOKING for that… Second dealer i went to, neither of the 2 XT’s had ANY of the ‘disks’ loose, on either side. All was solid on both left and right grips… And I’m sure this isn’t a big deal. However, it would be nice to know the PROPER way its supposed to be, on BOTH grips. If you get anything definitive, can you please post it? Likewise, if i find anything, Ill post as well.
Awesome videos. I'm currently trying to find a XT 250 in stock near me. Looking for something that will be good on commuting and still have some fun hitting the trails after work. Love seeing the mods and the other videos you have done on this bike. Best 2022 XT videos on youtube. Cant wait to see more.
Thanks Chris 🙂! I really appreciate you watching and your feedback. I can honestly say for my needs and size this is a perfect all arounder. I will be trying to post another video soon showcasing my seat upgrade.
Have you experienced and “death wobble” at high speeds? I’m kind of nervous to buy the bike due to all the comments around death wobble at high speeds.
I waited a long time for one in north Texas. Check dealer inventory often. I put a $500 deposit to hold it as they sell fast. I haven’t experienced death wobble, but I’ve only gone 55 so far.
@@christopherjones7092 I was told by another rider that the infamous death wobble on the bike with the oem tires occurs when the tire are packed with mud off roading. Something about them not shedding the mud and being unstable at higher speeds. I thought this was just any high road way speeds. Basically any knobby tire at a very high roadway speed acts wobbly to me. This gas occurred in the past on similar bikes I had such as the Kawasaki Super Sherpa and Kawasaki KLR650. Both had similar tires. As far as these particular tires I've had them up to about 75 mph-ish just going in a straight line. You could feel it getting wonky, but these tires are not designed for that. At your average 55mph to 65mph no problems at all on the highway hardtop. I'm talking dry conditions though. There are plenty of other tires to upgrade to as well. This is a very great riding bike for what it is. I have no intention of swapping my oem tires though at this point. Very pleased. And as mentioned this is my second xt250.
Find a used one. Yamaha will charge you in addition to the bike, $600 Freight, $300 assembly, $200-$400 document, and then add tax and license. So they will charge you an additional 20% over MSRP + tax which is crazy to me.
The plastic throttle disk on my 2022 is also loose. Must be the design. These are great bikes for commuting and riding the many backroads I have in my area. I have a tail rack and skid plate already. I’ll check into the master cylinder cover for trail riding. Thanks.
Thanks Tex Dave 🙂! Another rider responded my grips were not fully pushed on. He was right. I went out and elbow greased the heck out of my throttle grip inwards and the gap disappeared. I agree, this is an excellent all-rounder bike. I had to wait a bit for the master cylinder guard as its from Australia. But its worth it in my opinion. I just installed a new seat and will posting a video on it in a few days.
Nice bike. Watched a bunch of your videos. Just picked up a 24 xt250. I like the rack. Can you tell me what it mounts to. It looks like it has 3 mount points. Guessing the 2 on the side mount to the grab handle somehow? Not sure about the 3rd center mount? Did you have to drill holes in the fender? Thanks for any info!
Thanks Beech. Much appreciated. The racks only 2 mounting points attach via the grab handles rear bolts. The rack then rests upon the top of the rear fender. I'd consider this rack capable, but not for extremely heavy loads. It takes some finess to get it on re: lining up the plastics holes, rear handle holes, and the hardware spacers.
The skidplate is awesome, one of the better, if not the best plate I've seen for the XT250. I'm looking at this & several other bikes. DRZ, KLX are 2 I'm looking at now but I've just come back to this bike again to see what might be available to add on? thanks for the vids
Curiously, am I misunderstanding..... is this your 2nd XT ? If so, what happened to the old one? None of my business but I'm trying to understand. She is a good looking bike. peace
Don't feel too bad about your height, I'm 5'6" here @ 170lbs >> IT gets down to your, "intent" as a rider & I'm thinking 70%-30% roads to dirt. I like being able to aim out across a field & just go plus if I happen to be a bad rider I might need the ability to get out of the ditch I run into... that said, as much as I like this bike & the price is right, but at 70% road use I'd need to go 70mph for periods of time & that would be pushing this bike a bit too much? Honda's CRF300L offers a little more plus a 6th gear but then I come along & see someone like yourself who's done a nice job on their bike & I stop -n- LQQK..... and wonder what IF ? I'm gonna go look at more of your videos now. peace
@user-dv7hb2sc9m I'm 5'6 165lbs with all my gear. It's a very moldable bike. The reliability and proven track record speaks for itself. But if you're going to need 70mph speeds for long periods I'm thinking going bigger is probably a wiser choice in the long run too. That lowered Honda CRF looked like it was promising for us short folk. Good luck with your decision. I know its hard. Especially since no one offers test rides.
We're both close to the same weight & I'm 5'6" so I like the XT for the lower seat & you are correct about the CRF on the HWY plus it's got the 6th gear which lets that high revving 5th gear not vibrate you so much & again, I like the XT in how it looks, I like air cooled too, & the price. I even have been entertaining the Honda 150L which brought me back to the XT again. I'm all over the place but I'm researching it really well & if my money works out I might look for something like the Honda 500x or DR600(DRX's big brother) because these 2 can handle some open highway. TY for posting.
@mikegintz5256 Thanks Mike. Much appreciated. I did get the Corbin seat. I'd say if the oem seat was a 4 out of 10, 10 being the most comfort... I put the Corbin at a solid 6 -7. My latter clips talking about the Procycle tires shows it installed. I haven't made more clips in a while due to life getting in the way. Glad to answer any questions though.
Hey, I want to upgrade my stock tires from the Trail Wings, any suggestions? I find the knobbies dangerous on the road, especially in the rain. Looked at the Shunko 705 but ive heard they are also no good in the wet. Very hard decision! Cheers. Oh, I have a 2017 model.
I had tried thr Avon Distenza and Pirelli Scorpion MT90. Of the two the Pirelli's seemed to ride better. But on both they seemed a bit bouncier than the factory tired the XT250 comes with? I even paid to get them balanced, which ended up with a lot of tires weights due to the rim locks coming into play balance wise. Ultimately I ended up just getting some Procycle SM wheels installed for street use. Then I have the oem wheels with the factory tires still installed for off road.
It came like that from the factory. But that makes sense. Plus I only trimmed the end off for the Barkbusters install. Just had to cut the end lip off, barely roll the end up, trim the throttle tube end off, then unroll the grip. But now I will definately try to scootch it over more. Man, I feel a bit gooberish not figuring the grip part out.
Dude, I feel dumb. I went out and wrestled my throttle grip. It was just like you said... not installed all the way over like it should have been. Thanks for the comment as it totally helped. Much appreciated.
Weird observation... looking at your fingers you might be a guitar player ? Aside from that off kilter remark.,. Thank you for your video I am enjoying for sure. :)
Sorry, I didn't mean to imply anything but I have noticed that most guitarists that have been playing for a long time have fingers like yours.... And as I am at an aspiring self-taught guitarists, I noticed most of the people who've been playing for a long time have the same fingertips as you do on your left hand... Again I'm sorry just to throw that in... But I think if you wanted to play You're set up pretty good already! :-)
Did you order the flatlands rear rack for a different model? Went to the flatlands website but the one they have looks different. Also, I noticed your parabellum windshield scratches the OEM cowling -- does that bother you? I have mine installed at the same angle and can hear it knock on the cowling sometimes.
Your right. Flatlands must have changed up their design. Different cut outs in the rack now. You might check with Procycle to see if they still have any of the earlier versions left? Fitment wise it should still go on fine either one. I think I scratched my cowling up a bit more installing my headlight guard. The scratches there do not catch my eye so much.
@@findingneutral I can't believe it's so hard to find a good rack that lets me keep my grab bars. I will check with Procycle. I'm almost considering buying a new cowling, but might end up just putting some electrical tape over it.
Nice overview of options. Why did you trade up from the 2020 to your new 2022? Any particular reason(s)? I haven't had a bike like this since I was a kid. I have reviewed most and have zeroed in on this model of bike. The dealers won't even let me test ride it, take it or leave attitude.
Thanks SantaFeVman 🙂! A while after purchasing my 2020 I fell into that 'bigger is better' trap. Stupidly traded the 2020 in towards a CB500X. Another reason being was I have nowhere cool to ride a DP bike nearby. I immediately missed the fun factor and simplicity of the XT250. I accepted my loses and bought another one. Right now I'm running Procycle SM wheels on it and it's like a Monkey bike on steroids ride wise. It's very unfortunate dealerships do not allow test rides. But I can honestly say I bought 2 and was happy with both. Good luck with your bike choice decision 👍
@@findingneutral I decided to take a look at used bikes (FB Marketplace) and found a 2019 XT250 and it only had 30 miles on it! On top of that, it was someone from my work so simple transaction and saved a couple thousand dollars. He actually had two of them he never used due to Covid for him and his son and wanted to downsize for retirement. It all worked out good and I'm having fun the past few months with this new bike and reliving my younger days again. Thanks for your comment bigger better trap because I from time to time have/had the same thoughts.
@SantaFeVman I'm glad this helped. Sounds like you found an awesome deal on the bike that's right for you. I think the XT250 is all one needs to have a great time and not break the bank.
Hi, just ordered the xt250… GREAT VIDEOS, THANKS! Funny, i was going to purchase a 2021, and it had that “floppy’” disk on the left side as well. Only thing, when i pulled on the clutch lever, that disk would rattle, and i could hear it. It was loose. That bothered me. Salesperson said tech would check it out, and while i was there, the tech looked at it, but didn’t really know why it was happening. He said hed have to check it out when he had more time. When i called back, the bike had been sold. So, now i was LOOKING for this… AND Just the other day i saw 2 xts, at a different location, and neither had this disk loose, and there was no rattling when i pulled the clutch lever. OR, brake lever on the right side. Yours is on the RIGHT side… Interesting… Please let me know if you find out why its happening… Im very curious. I hope you can resove that! 🙏🏻
After I searched online it turns out that is called a throttle leaf ring by Yamaha. Designed to prevent the throttle rubber grip from rubbing or sticking. I'm guessing its supposed to be loose as I looked back on my 2020 Yamaha XT250 video and zoomed in on that one and the small gap was there still and the ring was kind of resting on the throttle grip. The clutch side has something similar but it has a tab to lock it in place. I think my dealer has a couple more 2022's. If I have a minute I'll stop by and see if they are the same. I know this is nothing earth shattering. But I'm just curious. Ill let you know 👍
@@findingneutral Hi hope all is well! Just wondering if you could ever consider doing a video comparing your Honda cb500x to the XT? I know they are different machines, but I'd love to hear YOUR personal thoughts on how they compare. I was actually cross shopping these two. I know this may seem odd but when I test rode the xt, one thing I noticed was the exhaust odor, (Maybe because the exhaust is high up?) Another RUclips guy 'Raj', noticed that as well. I've never noticed that on other bikes I've owned... Also, is one MUCH louder than the other? Comfort while riding, vibrations, which handles better in your opinion, etc. Any concerns with liquid cooling on the Honda? Seat height difference... Also, which do YOU find more fun to ride and if YOU could only have one, which would you choose and why? I would really appreciate a video like that, (or a comment here). And only if you ever could and had the time. If not, worries. Also, I agree with someone else's comment, that if your doing a video on a bike, its never boring. Besides, You also do a great job anyway! Thank's, and take care and be safe out there!
@@UrbanFrankie I was like uh oh. I best compare these here 2 bikes... or Frankie gonna break my knees... 😟.... just kidding 😂... I knew what you meant. I will start by just telling you my thoughts on the two if thats okay? It will be long winded with some personal opinion added. First, let me know your height, weight with gear, and type of riding you plan on doing mostly.
Thanks Brian 🙂! I think I've included links for most of the accessories in the videos I've already posted. But if you don't see any in particular let me know and I will try and get the information for you. On a side note, I just added a few more new bits to the XT250SM that are pretty cool. Will be posting those with links as well here soon.
@@findingneutral hi thank you for taking the time to reply, I will look for The 2020 vids. I'm really pleased to have found your channel, as a valuable resource for motorcycle gear & accessories, I appreciate how you have done all the research & I can benefit from your generosity with your time! BTW, I got the xt250 for my bro (age 55, 5'9" 155 lbs) but it was too big & powerful for him, so he's "selling" it back to me and he's going to get a 2019 Monkey.
@@walkerskii Cool. I'm glad you find my vid's helpful. I appreciate others doing the same thing and learning as well. The Monkey is a great bike too. I'd try and get the 2022 on version as it has the dedicated oil filter and 5th gear.
That's the sharpest looking TTR I've ever seen. But, if that was one of my friends bike, I'd tease him, "It does'nt look like you have any fun with this bike, it looks like a garage queen". Just jestin with ya, it looks awesome. What kind of muffler is that? I looks great, does it improve performance too?
Thanks Max 🙂! Dude, love the name. Mad Max series 👌. I'm totally guilty of a garage queen bike or bike(s). Reason being I really don't have anywhere that's worth going off-road nearby. Either private property or just sugar sand/mud holes. So I went in another direction with my XT250 and turned it into an SM (kind of). Installed custom SM wheels and different sprockets. The bike now cruises effortlessly at 60-65mph and is smooth as silk on the hardtop. Super nimble and very responsive. I wanted to showcase how versatile this bike is for other hardtop owners. Favorite bike in the stable now. I've posted a few more up to date clips which display the SM mods in case you wanted a look.
Coolness. I think your making an excellent first choice. This bike is a great all arounder. Plus the XT250 is very user friendly if your just getting into it.
I truly wish I had cool off road places to ride where I live. But I don't. Everything is either private property or boring flat sugar sand. Not to mention, my body is jacked from surgeries. So I opted to put Procycle SM wheels on instead and change the gearing for street use. Now it rides like a Monkey or Grom on steroids. That's my story.
How's the 500x treating you & what speeds does she do on the highway? I still am saving money, takes a while when I can't work but the XT250 hasn't been ruled off my list, yet? Being about to roll along at highway speeds is something I need where I'm living. There aren't enough small highways & the Interstate is a must travel road here. 75MPH is that speed limit & I feel like I need a bike that can do 70mph comfortably. I mean doing 70 without revving the bike up to a bad vibration.... lol, I say it like this; a bike that can go 100-110mph will go 70-75 at a comfortable rev without it vibrating/revving you & the bike too hard. I looked at the Honda 150L but I'd be pegging her out @ Full Revv's and still not go the speed limit. That's too hard on the bike & me..... I know you understand what I'm saying although I'm not good with the proper terms/words. Your 500x ought to do the 100mph meaning I think you can ride at 70-75mph w/o pushing her too hard?? What are your feelings on this? I've had people talk bad about the 500x and all the Honda 500 series? Not sure what they don't like & I've not done the proper look into that bike so I'm starting here/now w/ you.... your experience is my start point on the 500x ! peace
@user-dv7hb2sc9m I've been impressed with my CB500X thus far. I've ridden close to 10k miles all on-road. You bring up noteworthy concerns though. The bike does have vibration in it. From what I gather this particular 500cc Vtwin is known for it. Still, it's tolerable with a few things added. I felt it mostly in the handlebars. Especially between 50-70mph. I installed bar end weights, Grip Puppies, and a handlebar riser. All this combined help make the vibration tolerable. Before adding these things my throttle hand would go numb pretty quick. I found the stock seat uncomfortable so I swapped it out for a Corbin. The Corbin did make my ground reach harder as it's a wider saddle. I'm 5'6 so seat height matters. Still, huge comfort difference, which I need as I've had many low back surgeries. The stock wind screen buffets pretty bad. I swapped that out for a taller screen. Still wasn't enough height so I added a screen spoiler. These two things solved the buffetting completely. The stock Dunlop tires were okay. Since I'm only riding on road I opted to switch to Michelin Road 5's. The smoothness and handling was immediately noticeable. Tires are very preference related though. Still, I think they help reduce the bikes felt vibrations overall. I installed a rear tire hugger as the rear shock location seems quite prone to getting a lot of tire fling debris on it. I also installed a skid plate and engine drop protection/crash bars. Mostly out of concern of me tipping over at slow speeds since I cannot flat foot. I've read much debate about crash guards making vibration worse and the mounting points causing engine mount bolt fractures. Something to do with the high frequency vibration from the engine. Fortunately I've not experienced this with mine. Another issue with this bike is throttle snatch or on/off throttle. Especially in 1st gear. I've tried feathering the clutch, but never gotten the hang of it really. The head light is not that good. The beam seems somewhat scattered and not that bright. The speedometer cluster screen seems a bit dim, has a glare in daylight, and scratches easy. I installed a Speedoangel screen cover and it helped a lot. Before I purchased mine I researched for any known problems. The only one I could find was the water pump is known to fail. Seems like a luck of the draw thing as some folks don't report issues upwards of 20k miles while others have had failures is less than 10k. Honda out sources the pump and it appears the impellers can be out of tolerance, thus creating a leak. Usually this manifests first with coolant dripping from the weep hole. Knock on wood I've had no issues with mine. As far as highway speeds go I feel this bike can handle commuting at 75mph, but that's about it. You can still gun the throttle at 75mph and pass slow traffic, but the bike responds a bit slow and sluggish. I'd say this engine is happiest between 55-65mph. Yes it can run the higher speed, however you can tell the engine is working. I believe Honda has addressed many issues since 2021 though. Redesigned a few things as well. The new 2024 NX500 has a different headlight and speedometer cluster. ABS and traction control I think. I've heard they adjusted the fuel mapping so it might have less vibration coming from the engine and a less snatchy throttle. Don't get ne wrong though. It's been absolutely reliable. The clutch is very smooth and accurate. Excellent fuel economy. Once I added my personalized comfort adjustments it's been great. I really feel I could ride it all day long with next to no rider's fatigue. The ergonomics and riders triangle are great. I added a center which makes chain maintenance and other stuff easy. I read one guy's take on Hondas 500cc line up. He tried out the CB500F, CL500, Rebel, CBR500, and the CB500X. Of them all he said the CB500X was the best bang for the buck. This model is pretty premium considering it's price point when you look at other makes & models. I have looked at the Transalp 750cc. I was considering moving up, but I really do not need it for my country back road non-commuting applications. However if I were going to be riding highways a lot and commuting I would be leaning more towards a Transalp. I know they are more expensive, but it is a more substantial bike and I think 75mph all day would be very easy on it. I know I was a bit all over with this response. So feel free to ask any other thing you can think of. I'm glad to answer.
Wow, that was the most complete review of ANY Bike I've ever seen.... A lot of your concerns fit mine as I'm 5'6" as well so I always consider these things. No matter what bike I wind up with I'd have to have a skid-plate & a protector for that radiator. Thanks for the water pump heads up. I look at this bike in comparisons with Honda's own 650L, KLR, DR.... all over 500cc. I figured 80% on road which means after the breakdown of manufacturers tires I'd be doing deep research on tires but I'm far from that now. If this bike can do 70-75mph that's what I must have & I'm not looking for anything more except to pass, IF I needed to pass?! You aren't a big guy(less than 200lbs) is my guess & I'm guessing the suspension was alright for your size? I've read the front end can have leaks but I suspect all front forks will do this if they aren't kept clean? They make a small boot that hugs the tube in front, I don't know the material but it keeps the tube clean where the seals are. Because of your findings on this bike I think she's got a lot of low end torque~ you feather it in part b/c of this and since you do not use her offroad I do wonder if a sprocket change would help give it 5-10mph of speed without the need to revv her any higher? Obviously you've found all the things important to how you ride & feeling secure in that ride. And don't get me wrong, the XT250 is still on my list higher up than this 500x but I owe it myself to do a complete check of possibilities as I can. If I do look in the used market, knowing all these different dual sport bikes, knowing their issues, and knowing the standard mods on each of them will tell me a lot more about the value of a used bike. And I'm seeing what these mods look like compared to what is stock; with that I'll thank you for all the time, I do appreciate the in-depth explanations of these bikes you own. I've copied / pasted all this into my 500x file & I have one for all the dual sports I've looked at. Sounds crazy to do this but since I have time to look into all of them I think you understand my wanting to be thorough. To the point I know most the needed vrs unneeded mods for each bike & a rough idea how long it'll take to do them? So you've been very generous. I'm sure I'll be digging thru your site. Thanks again, diggy
@user-dv7hb2sc9m Glad to help. Yes the stock suspension is sufficient for me at about 165lbs with full riding gear. Never had an issue there. I've heard a front sprocket change will reduce vibration for on road use. Does cause a speedo deviation though. Great idea to do your research beforehand like your doing. Good luck.
Yeah, I know it kills the gauges(speed) & the XT, the plastic disc is to make sure the rubber throttle doesn't lock the throttle wide open causing you a wreck in some bizarre place. All the metal pieces to guard the case & the brake reservoir(master cylinder) are nice as well. I'd worry about the large round part on the right side, I know I've seen some type of plastics/carbon fiber that claims to give protection & she does stick out a little further than the skid-plate wing below. I know I've watched this 2-3 times before today but you've done a lot of stuff w/ this bike. Do you even have time to ride this one or does your wife ride it? I don't mean to pry but I see how good looking this bike is and I know your 500x is good looking too. It's who you are, in my humble opinion! So I'm gonna go pull your 500x vids tonight/tomorrow & you have really done some good work. peace
@user-dv7hb2sc9m Thanks. I tried getting the wife into riding, buy zero interest. So they are all only ridden by me. Due to personal and family health situations I don't get to ride them as much as I'd like. Luckily I was able to equip them with accessories when I did. I'm pretty much done adding stuff on all of them now. I keep them very maintained as I don't want to have to replace them. At least that's the plan 🤞
where please lord where did you find the yamaha sticker badges ??????????????????????????????? I look for ever for your. and cannot find them.. I WANT THEM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! please send info sir..:)
Is there any difference between the 2020 versus the 2022.? I thought and still believe they are identical. I own an xt250 2021 model.. I believe they are all exactly the same. unless its a california model... yuk !!
I guess if you never want to take the bike off road and risk a fall, I would never put a carbon fiber muffler on a dual sport bike. They are extremely easy to crack when hit from the side and yours sticks out far enough that it would be the first thing to strike the ground.
Great. I didn't know carbon was so weak. I'm no great or aggressive rider so I most likely will be just putzing around so hopefully I won't dump it. Hearing this makes me glad to have an exhaust guard on my Trail125 Yoshimura. I did look for a guard for the XT250 but didn't find anything. And your absolutely right, it does poke out. I appreciate the information and heads up.
It's actually for a Honda Trail125. But I made it work. I did a video just on this guard on my channel. Hope this info helps. www.ebay.com/itm/Honda-CT125-Trail-125-Hunter-Cub-New-2020-2021-Headlight-Guard-Headlamp-Grill/224249001458?pageci=99acd8c4-6c12-4bdc-9ace-584ada728c0a

That whole bigger will be better concept. I wanted a CB500X and needed a way to get it. Stupidly traded in my 2020 XT250. Then realized that was a mistake and got another. I like my CB500X but in all honesty its a bit too big for me. The XT250 is much more my size and practical.... and cheaper. Live and learn.
I'm on my fourth XT bike bought it brand-new last fall I kept selling them and regretting it every time. I'm not that big a guy only 130 lb 5 foot 5 I have considered buying bigger bikes but I don't think I would fit on them well I was thinking about buying the versys 300 before I bought my last XT just because I think it's a better Commuter bike since I drive aboat 80km total to work if I take the xt250. From all the research I have done I must say the XT is one of the most reliable bikes ever I'm just concerned about putting too many kilometres on it driving to work as I will a lot this summer because of gas prices I could easy put five to ten thousand kilometres on it. I'm not sure how long these motors last before you have the motor rebuilt. I do change the oil in it regular. Anyways enjoy your videos and have fun on the new XT250.
@@Jonathan-lq4uy Thats cool you've had a few of them. I researched as well as not to buy a problematic bike. If I were to have to commute daily I might want a bit bigger CC just so as not to have to run higher revs so long. I still think the XT250 could pull it off no matter. VictoriaZ racked up 40k miles only having to have the carb cleaned or adjusted. Plus those were rough miles off road. Curious to know what you end up going with so let me know. Good luck with your search.
I just checked Procycle. Only saw an auxiliary type that could be mounted on a rack. If I see a full on tank I will share. procycle.us/model/yamaha/xt250/gas-tanks
Sorry I can't look properly at what your showing me, with your hands in the way. Thank you for your video my backs bad too & shoulder. I'm downgrading from a Yamaha MT03 to a XT 250 2016 Better suspension more upright rider position.
I've had right shoulder surgery and will need left. Sucks being in pain. I try to ride until it gets unbearable. I actually went on a 90 mile ride with the XT250 the other day. On road and light off road. Bike did great. I'm hopeful you'll like yours as well. Thanks for the hand tip. Try and remember that next time.
@@findingneutral my whole back, left shoulder, I'm downgrading from a Yamaha MT03 to a XT 250 2016 lighter & not having to reach for the handlebars & jarring my back over bumpy roads
Thanks Kurt 🙂! Glad to hear you had good results with your seat as well. It definitely makes a longer ride more enjoyable.
Regarding the Delcovec exhaust , was it plug and play?... or did you have to go in and change some fuel to air injection mapping in the ECU.
@@GenX80sKid Coolness, and thanks 👍

You've done well nice looking 👌 bike love the screen, muffler & sump guard
Thanks Dean 🙂! I appreciate it. I just ordered a few more bits for it. Will definately post some more videos in the near future.
I just installed a new seat and will posting a video on it in a few days.
gorgeous looking bike, can't wait to find one to sit on. good video pal
Thanks WS RC 🙂!
Thanks for the info. I may go for the Y's from Yamaha then. It is a little bit more $, but seems pretty sturdy.
@@beechjet400xp 👍
The skidplate is awesome, one of the better, if not the best plate I've seen for the XT250. I'm looking at this & several other
bikes. DRZ, KLX are 2 I'm looking at now but I've just come back to this bike again to see what might be available to add on?
thanks for the vids
Curiously, am I misunderstanding..... is this your 2nd XT ? If so, what happened to the old one? None of my business
but I'm trying to understand. She is a good looking bike. peace
Thanks 🙂
It really is a great all rounder reliable bike. DRZ is awesome too, just too tall for me unfortunately.
Don't feel too bad about your height, I'm 5'6" here @ 170lbs >> IT gets down to your, "intent" as a rider & I'm thinking
70%-30% roads to dirt. I like being able to aim out across a field & just go plus if I happen to be a bad rider I might
need the ability to get out of the ditch I run into... that said, as much as I like this bike & the price is right, but at
70% road use I'd need to go 70mph for periods of time & that would be pushing this bike a bit too much? Honda's
CRF300L offers a little more plus a 6th gear but then I come along & see someone like yourself who's done a nice
job on their bike & I stop -n- LQQK..... and wonder what IF ? I'm gonna go look at more of your videos now. peace
@user-dv7hb2sc9m I'm 5'6 165lbs with all my gear. It's a very moldable bike. The reliability and proven track record speaks for itself. But if you're going to need 70mph speeds for long periods I'm thinking going bigger is probably a wiser choice in the long run too. That lowered Honda CRF looked like it was promising for us short folk. Good luck with your decision. I know its hard. Especially since no one offers test rides.
We're both close to the same weight & I'm 5'6" so I like the XT for the lower seat & you are correct about the CRF on the
HWY plus it's got the 6th gear which lets that high revving 5th gear not vibrate you so much & again, I like the XT in how
it looks, I like air cooled too, & the price. I even have been entertaining the Honda 150L which brought me back to the
XT again. I'm all over the place but I'm researching it really well & if my money works out I might look for something
like the Honda 500x or DR600(DRX's big brother) because these 2 can handle some open highway. TY for posting.
everything looks fine. maybe only add a trail tech voyager pro to soup up everything. my take
Great job on the video and accessories please make another video if you get that Corbin seat I am interested in those also.
You didn’t put the grip on all the way, that’s why you had to cut the end off! My grips are full!
@@findingneutral no probs mate, you can buy full grips with holes in the end, they work great with barkbusters and look tidier👍

@@peiwenl I agree. This is the only one I came across that kept the handles on.

Ill let you know 👍
I posted a comment and pinned it about that disc. Just sharing.
I'm saving up for that bike. Never dirt biked before but my gf and I want to get into it.
Coolness. I think your making an excellent first choice. This bike is a great all arounder. Plus the XT250 is very user friendly if your just getting into it.
where’s your favorite place to off road?
I truly wish I had cool off road places to ride where I live. But I don't. Everything is either private property or boring flat sugar sand. Not to mention, my body is jacked from surgeries. So I opted to put Procycle SM wheels on instead and change the gearing for street use. Now it rides like a Monkey or Grom on steroids. That's my story.
How's the 500x treating you & what speeds does she do on the highway? I still am saving money, takes a while when
I can't work but the XT250 hasn't been ruled off my list, yet? Being about to roll along at highway speeds is something
I need where I'm living. There aren't enough small highways & the Interstate is a must travel road here. 75MPH is that
speed limit & I feel like I need a bike that can do 70mph comfortably. I mean doing 70 without revving the bike up to
a bad vibration.... lol, I say it like this; a bike that can go 100-110mph will go 70-75 at a comfortable rev without it
vibrating/revving you & the bike too hard. I looked at the Honda 150L but I'd be pegging her out @ Full Revv's and
still not go the speed limit. That's too hard on the bike & me..... I know you understand what I'm saying although
I'm not good with the proper terms/words. Your 500x ought to do the 100mph meaning I think you can ride at
70-75mph w/o pushing her too hard?? What are your feelings on this? I've had people talk bad about the 500x
and all the Honda 500 series? Not sure what they don't like & I've not done the proper look into that bike so I'm
starting here/now w/ you.... your experience is my start point on the 500x !
A lot of your concerns fit mine as I'm 5'6" as
well so I always consider these things. No matter what bike I wind up with I'd have to have a skid-plate & a protector
for that radiator. Thanks for the water pump heads up. I look at this bike in comparisons with Honda's own 650L,
KLR, DR.... all over 500cc. I figured 80% on road which means after the breakdown of manufacturers tires I'd be
doing deep research on tires but I'm far from that now. If this bike can do 70-75mph that's what I must have &
I'm not looking for anything more except to pass, IF I needed to pass?! You aren't a big guy(less than 200lbs)
is my guess & I'm guessing the suspension was alright for your size? I've read the front end can have leaks
but I suspect all front forks will do this if they aren't kept clean? They make a small boot that hugs the tube
in front, I don't know the material but it keeps the tube clean where the seals are. Because of your findings
on this bike I think she's got a lot of low end torque~ you feather it in part b/c of this and since you do not
use her offroad I do wonder if a sprocket change would help give it 5-10mph of speed without the need to
revv her any higher? Obviously you've found all the things important to how you ride & feeling secure in that
ride. And don't get me wrong, the XT250 is still on my list higher up than this 500x but I owe it myself to do
a complete check of possibilities as I can. If I do look in the used market, knowing all these different
dual sport bikes, knowing their issues, and knowing the standard mods on each of them will tell me a
lot more about the value of a used bike. And I'm seeing what these mods look like compared to what
is stock; with that I'll thank you for all the time, I do appreciate the in-depth explanations of these
bikes you own. I've copied / pasted all this into my 500x file & I have one for all the dual sports I've
looked at. Sounds crazy to do this but since I have time to look into all of them I think you understand
my wanting to be thorough. To the point I know most the needed vrs unneeded mods for each bike &
a rough idea how long it'll take to do them? So you've been very generous. I'm sure I'll be digging
thru your site.
Good luck.
Yeah, I know it kills the gauges(speed) & the XT, the plastic disc is to make sure the rubber throttle
doesn't lock the throttle wide open causing you a wreck in some bizarre place. All the metal pieces
to guard the case & the brake reservoir(master cylinder) are nice as well. I'd worry about the large
round part on the right side, I know I've seen some type of plastics/carbon fiber that claims to give
protection & she does stick out a little further than the skid-plate wing below. I know I've watched
this 2-3 times before today but you've done a lot of stuff w/ this bike. Do you even have time to
ride this one or does your wife ride it? I don't mean to pry but I see how good looking this bike is
and I know your 500x is good looking too. It's who you are, in my humble opinion! So I'm gonna
go pull your 500x vids tonight/tomorrow & you have really done some good work.
Thank you again, I really enjoyed it.
Appreciate that 🙏
My dream bike ❤

Is there any difference between the 2020 versus the 2022.? I thought and still believe they are identical. I own an xt250 2021 model.. I believe they are all exactly the same. unless its a california model... yuk !!
All the same. Unless its the CA model. Not sure what they have going on with theirs and don't want to know.
hello, nice video! where do you ride in Florida?
NE Florida. Thanks
@@findingneutral where is NE ? Around what town?
Saludos desde Nicaragua, muy bonita tu moto y también tu casco.
Gracias Marcos 🙂! Muy apreciado.
I appreciate the information and heads up.
where did you get the head light guard??
It's actually for a Honda Trail125. But I made it work. I did a video just on this guard on my channel. Hope this info helps.

Where did you get the pig tail for you battery?
It's from 'Battery Tender' by Deltran. Here's a link from Amazon to an identical version. Hope this info helps.

Just wondering why you got rid of your other bike and bought a brand new one
👍👌 Looking good, F.N.
Thanks Raj 🙂!
Nice XT.
Thanks Flyovercounty 🙂! Much appreciated.
whats funny about the mirrors.. i also have a 01 kawasaki KE100 gues what its the exact same mirrors lol
Must be the same mirror engineer. I still am impressed by their angle. Great design for seeing over the shoulders 👌
Does anyone know of a company that makes an extended range gas tank for the XT250? Acerbis, IMS and Clarke do not.
I just checked Procycle. Only saw an auxiliary type that could be mounted on a rack. If I see a full on tank I will share.

I think you could have done the review without the helmet …But, nice bike.
Thanks The Unit 🙂! I have any ugly mug is all.
