Love my 2008 XT250. It had set up for a couple of years and I had to do some carb work when I first got it. It had a slight dead spot on tip in after getting it running but after seeing the air filter had been replaced with a K&N I ordered a new Yamaha replacement and it cured the hesitation. I now have a good bike that has only 4100 miles on it. I have been riding big street bikes for 50 years and this bike is my absolute favorite. It’s so easy to manage and it will go anywhere you want if you can handle it. Gonna put some more different tires for a smoother and safer street ride as I have to ride pretty far to get to the trails I ride on. Other than that it’s perfect for me and if I drop it I can pick it up without no problem. It’s a keeper.
Holy crap dude your 1 off vid was perfect!! Close to gettin a beater XT in the states and another one in Thailand when I get back & this channel is def required viewing!
Great video, it's really cool to see how well your bike is holding up to hard riding. Just got one last week and took it out on some really hard and was impressed with how good it did over whoops and jumps and all around stuff at the ORV park. I actually got this thing to do some back country discovery routes and i think this will be a great bike for that.
Rocky MT ATV makes skidplate foam. I used it when I put my plate on and I don't notice any noise reflection. It also keeps debris from getting lodged in between. Always like your vids on this great motorcycle.
Got the Serow 2019 over here in Philippines. They were almost identical with XT250 except for the signal lights, tail lights and the rear tubeless spoked wheel design on it as stock. Serow stickers for asian market and XT stickers somewhere else. I only replaced the header pipe with titanium from Webike Japan, added a Burkbuster handguard and bar-end weights, replaced air filter with a diy foam filter (Washable - no oil) from Serow 225/Xt225 and replaced both hydraulic brake hose with Stainless steel braided ones from Webike as well.
Serow is a class of bike (I think) because the TW200, TTR225m XT250 (maybe more) are all called Serow. Lots of interchangeable parts there, too. Same exhaust header for all of them, same muffler, same pegs come on them (tiny aren't they!). But the main thing they have in common is they are bullet proof and unstoppable. Just pick your flavor and enjoy.
I'm sure most people can agree that a de tuned engine will last forever with very minimal issues.... Btw I have a 2020 tw200 so I feel your pain lol.... But at the same time; oil, filters and (non crap) fuel. And a yamaha will run forever!
I have 10,000 on mine recently. it is a 14 and the twin of yours. I like the D606's. The bike does not seem to have enough power to wear them out, so the cost seems fine.

I've owned and rented a stupid amount of bikes amd this onr just makes me smile... Except for the highway.... Which I therefore avoid...and is the only reason I may look at adding another dual sport to the stable. But, my question is about your inner fender removal. I want to do the same, recently got chucked off the bike when some mud jammed the wheel. A bit concerned about throwing rocks into the engine case. How long have you been running without the inner fender?
Thx Sean. I removed it when I went from a 2.75 to a 3.0 front tire ... three 1/2 years ago. No issues, I really didn't notice that much difference ... but I do think about making some brackets to raise it and putting it back on sometimes.
XT is a cool bike for 90% of people I think.. I guess it depends how far you want to go and how much power and weight you can get along with or without 👍
Great video, I'm looking at an xt250 or a CRF 300 and was wondering if there is any engine performance mods worth doing like exhaust and EFI tune for the XT as it fits me better but I love the added power of the CRF?
You can do an exhaust & power commander … but it’s a lot of $ per HP increase and probably wouldn’t give you the power of a CRF 300 or a KLX 300. I just twist harder. 🤣
I’ve honestly just thought of buying a replacement OEM shifter cutting it on the band saw and then welding in an extension. I think one day I will. That way if it don’t turn out you still have the original.
Battery - yes, replaced with a Tusk brand lithium battery. Saved pounds! Valve clearance has been checked several times… Has never needed adjustment. 👍🏼
There is a lower front fender. When I put on the 3.0x21 IRC TR8 Battle Rally tire, not enough clearance, so I took it off. I notice no difference to tell you the truth and I think I'm going to do the mod where you make that lower rear fender the back part of of the upper fender -- making the front fender more like a regular dirt bike high front fender.

I've seen a video of a British man in the Philippines that upgraded his XT250 Serrow's exhaust that looks really nice. @@XT250allday I think someone took a square piece of metal. Drilled 4 holes, and was able to raise the lower fender. I may try that. But, my stock tires still have a lot of life.
Yep, lots of people raise their lower front fender that way. I don’t think a lower front fender does much of anything. I didn’t notice any difference not having it on. Dirt bikes don’t have them.

I'd say the XT250 build quality is high ... it's simply a well built, low performance bike. The rear tire on the XT250 Serow JDM model is tubeless actually ... and one could certainly switch over to tubeless. If that's the worst thing about a bike, well, that's a pretty good bike.
