I love it when the Japanese are speaking for like 2 mins straight to each other and he asked to translate and they’re like “oh he said to keep your head beck” or something equally short. Anyone who’s been to Asia can understand that! 😂😂😂
Woohoo, a sponsor! Those are cool if you can get one. Also while not currently available in the US Suntory beer is said to be trying to break in to the market. And for those that weren't aware, Suntory has owned Jim Beam for several years now.
YAAASSS SIMON AND MARTINA GET THAT SPONSOR MONEY. I dont drink alcohol but next time I go to my sister's I'll bring her a six pack of Suntory in honour of u guys
Just one advice for all the people who visit Izakaya. Many Japanese people order by saying Mou Ippai, which means ‘ same again’. However, this is one of the most annoying custom for waiters and waitresses. Japanese Izakayas usually have so many different kinds of drinks, so it’s very difficult for waiters to understand what the customers want unless they drink at bar counter and order to the same guys all the time. Simply, they don’t know what you want, or they don’t remember what drink you had. The best way is tell them what you want. I’ve worked for Izakaya when I was young and experienced it. There was a survey asking waiters ‘what’s the most annoying thing when you work at Izakaya and ‘mou ippai ‘ was one of the most annoying order style for waiters.
AMAZING! You know, I thought of this as well. When I was first taught it, I though, how the hell do the waiters remember? They must have amazing memories. But I guess it's tougher for them. I was right! I'll stop saying that. Thanks for the heads up!
It's the same everywhere I think. I work at a nightclub in a magical land called Estonia, and sure sometimes I remember a face very well and know what they want, but more often than not I need them to actually tell me what they want to drink. Customer service people see hundreds of faces a day, we can't remember everybody's preferences :)
Maarja Jürgens If it’s a small place, I think it’s OK, but in large ones, it’s simply impossible to remember what customers have had... In Japan, we are allowed to drink from the age of 20, but many high school students, 16-18 yo, work as a part time job at those places so they don’t even know what they are serving...
Completely agree. It also depends on the customer turnover rate. Moral of the story- don't assume your waiter/barista/bartender remembers your oder. Sense the atmosphere of the place and even the chemistry with your server. If you have a connection with them it's more likely they will know exactly what you want and then it's all good :)
I’m glad you guys have reached the point where you feel comfortable speaking Japanese on camera (I know when you were in Korea you mentioned you sometimes felt awkward / not confident speaking Korean on camera). I love it! (Also flashes me back to your guys’ first videos when you moved to Japan and were learning Japanese - look how far you’ve settled in to your new home now!). ^ㅅ^

I started watching your channel when I was younger, but then forgot about it through the years. Happy I found it again because even though I’m older now I still love your videos!
have you tried eating gari(pickled ginger) while drinking beer? I'm a japanese-descendant from Brazil and i really came to appreciate it. Here in Brazil we like salty peanuts, salami drizzled with lime, olives and spicy cheese, as the most common treats, because it's cheap and salty/fatty. Also we do something we lovingly call "cu de burro" or just CDB for short, which is just salt and lime, that sometimes bars and pubs in general dip the top of the cup in lime juice and then salt. Love beer, love u, Kanpai.
I know how you feel Simon, a ramen shop I frequent invited me to their special private event. I just started eating ramen frequently this year; this is amazing.
