most of foreigners in Japan they are very good persons(like Simon&Martina) and polite like a Japanese. But recently Only few tourists becoming go wild in Japan do silly stupid thing for their RUclips plays count up.
I am a Japanese 40yo born in Japan. I have never heard that kind of thing in Japan before people shoot dead people and don’t do anything (call Kouban - police office or whatever) And laughing while shooting that. I am shocked. And I thought please this not gonna happen again in Japan same thing. Please please please 😞
I'm really enjoying these "Choose your own adventure" bits at the end lol good stuff. I'm really glad you guys made this video! I would love to see more travel tips for people who want to visit Japan!
Omg, where was this video a few years ago! I went to Osaka in 2015 and suffered all the things on here! Needed the toilet, but couldn't find it and ended up holding it till an tourist attraction. Battery on 2%, no idea where to charge. No wifi pocket and wouldn't get my sim card to work, got lost everyday. Need bin to place rubbish, carried it with me till I got off the plane from JP. Missed a lot of train, accidentally went on a express train and went pass my station by miles! At least I am now more prepare for my next JP trip next month! :)
I had the toilet and garbage issues (I knew about it being hard to find garbage cans but still) but other than that I didn't really have any other issues. Doing a lot of research about the country you're going to helps, and it certainly helps being prepared haha. I'm certain there were other helpful videos at the time you were going to Japan in 2015 😊 Hope your second trip there went smoothly!
I was so shocked when I went to Germany because washrooms are not free :I so startled when an old lady stood outside and demanded coins when I was done
Hilda Bernhardsson It's not free, because often people make a mess and it's really hard to clean up. So most "cleaner" restrooms have a little fee to pay :)
It really depends where you are, those paid washrooms are more common in bigger cities. Oftentimes you can find free public bathrooms outside the bigger cities.
In a lot of the bigger shopingcentres I went to (like for example "Thiergalerie" In Dortmund or "Limbecker Platz" in Essen) are having a mashine that blocks your way when you want to go to the toiletes. You need to insert money so it unlocks your way to the washrooms. Than you will get a coupon out of the mashine that gives you 50cent discount in some shops (not all) when you buy stuff for more than 5€ ... Those are mostly run by a company called "Sanifair". At trainstations there is often the same, but older trainstations washrooms are mostly run by a company called " rail&refresh" and the diference here is that you get no coupon for paying to shit/pee
My mom grew up in Poland and when my brother and I were planning our trip to Europe she kept teasing us about the old ladies that would be collecting the bathroom money. We laughed it off... She was not lying.
I have never understood why here in Finland I see trash on the streets (even LITERALLY NEXT TO A GARBAGE CAN), when Tokyo has zero trash cans and it's suuuuper clean. It just baffles me everytime.
Ok so this video is the best Japan travel tips video I’ve ever seen! This is the best composed advice video. I’ve been watching as many Japan videos as I’ve been able to find over the last 5 years and I’ve noticed that anytime a RUclipsr makes a “travel tips” video they usually use almost the same information and advice as the last 30 RUclipsr’s tip videos and I’ve yet to come across one that showed in addition to telling. This video is simply the best thing I’ve seen good job guys
LOVE IT!! Please create lots of video about Japan! I know many RUclipsrs have created so much videos about Japan but HEY, its you. Its Simon and Martina, of course it'll be in another level. Keep going, fellas! Love you. From your Indonesian Nasty!
Some have no lid to close when u flush so u Gotta be ready to bolt out the toilet after u flush so u don't get any of that nasty SHET squirting out on you😭😭😭😭
Simon and Martina ummm our public bathrooms here in Orlando are pretty gross. The most common place to go for the bathroom is at a gas station, but like not just any gas station those are usually even worse. Lol you have to go to like a Racetrack or Wawa. Those are literally the only two I suggest. I’ve been on a road trip before where the bathrooms were so disgusting there was black mold, the locks on the door weren’t working, toilet seats nearly fly out from under you when you sit. And one time I saw a vending machine in the bathroom that sold condoms, that was an interesting day.
You guys already know about Aussie toilets. As I remember, the water pressure on the full flush surprised the shit out of you 😂 besides that our public bathrooms are pretty nasty unless you go to a cafe
Martina- I don’t know what it is but you look so HAPPY in this video! It makes me happy to see you smiling and dancing around knowing that you’re in pain so often. You’re such an inspiration! 💕
I appreciate how you respect lives here in Japan, the tips and information you give out are always really genuine. I hope all the foreign travelers would follow the tips from you guys. I mean even as a local, there's so much to learn from your videos, shows your dedication to the craft.
You know, I've been with you guys since the Bucheon apartment and I've always refrained from commenting on your wonderful videos (I'm just not the type to comment) BUT I figured I would comment because of how helpful this is to me for my up coming trip! I'm off to Tokyo in a few months with some friends and we will be going to Kyoto for a few days as well! You guys are the best
My stepmom studied in Japan for a year back in the day and she said it's considered rude to walk around eating or drinking unless you're in a large group and everyone is doing it. Is that true? Some of her stories seemed out of date when I visited Japan for a week
Obviously you do not know the reason why they do it that way. But instead of finding out "why", you just want to impose your way on them. FYI... it is believed that the bins were removed from public spaces after the sarin gas attack in one of Tokyo's subway station.
You are not suppose to eat while walking. Its not about being rude. Its about keeping the surrounding clean. Dringking is still OK but not in a bus or train. Incase the bus/train make abrupt stops, you might spill your drink on other people.
zam023 interesting thanks for letting me know. I'm always impressed how organized Japan is and how politeness/being considerate is the norm rather than the exception. I always have to take my stepmom's stories with a grain of salt lol. When I was in Japan we picnicked whenever we found a park but I always bring a plastic bag in my backpack to carry trash back with me. I didn't even notice the lack of trashcans because of that habit
The reasons for no trash cans at subway/train stations is because there was a terrorist attack (by a cult called Aum) using a chemical weapon on subways and in subway stations some years ago in the center of Tokyo. After the attacks, trash cans at stations were removed, so that chemical weapons couldn't be planted in them. In other places, trash cans are rare because, in Tokyo, residents have to pay for their garbage to be collected (in the form of buying designated garbage bags) in order to get people to recycle more (waste put out for recycling is collected for free i.e. no need to buy designated garbage bags). If you do not use designated garbage bags, the city will not collect your garbage and it will stay with you forever. If you do not recycle (i.e. put metal cans etc. in the garbage bag with non-recyclable waste), they won't collect your garbage either. Because garbage collection is strictly charged, there are next to no free options to throw away your garbage in public. So, you should carry a plastic bag or something to put your garbage in, and throw it away at the place you are staying, if you're a tourist. It is just to keep Tokyo a livable place by not filling up the existing land fills too quickly. The population of Japan, and Tokyo in particular, is simply too large and the land too small to let people throw away their garbage freely. I hope people who visit Japan would understand the situation.
Hell yeah!! This is GREAT info. People don't think about things like this before traveling... Also, we use the "hover" method where I live in the US. But I live in the hood so most places don't even have public restrooms...
Why are you guys just the most legit and helpful Japan travel channel. I watch travel videos all the time and I just watched this and learned like 5 new things. Keep up the awesome videos!
Hi guys....my wife and I are HUGE fans so we told a friend about you guys....Alyssa...and she tells us that she knows Martina. Small world. We're here in Toronto and Alyssa is one of our best friends. Martina, she sends out a huge HELLO and big hugs! Hope you both are well. We visit Asia every year and were just in Tokyo in December. Thanks for your vids!
No. It's an issue for nasty people who like to litter. There are places to toss trash, like 7/11's, which are on almost every block, especially in Tokyo. I lived there and never "tossed it anywhere." If I saw you toss trash, I'll slap you, then you'll have to pick it up.
You both look so damn good in this video! Simon you look like you've bulked up and your arms look a lot more defined. I'm assuming the weight lifting is going well then? And sweet Dumbledores beard, Martina you've slimmed down so much in such a short time. Reveal your secrets! lol
I've been waiting for this video from you guys. Luckily, our tour guide was really nice I showed your food vids to her, she instantly took me there. The Yamachan and Cremia was so worth it!!! I'm definitely coming back
I need more videos like this one! You guys are the reason I visited Korea in 2015 (Best trip ever) and now I need your tips and adventures to plan accordingly for Japan! Thank you, guys!
This is such a useful video to show to my frds when they are visiting Japan!!! Also, little tip if u are looking for a garbage bin, try inside a JR station! Either on the platform or somewhere in the paid area!
I wish you would do a video on how to go to a concert/buy tickets/go to a music festival/ do more music stuff like you did in Korea, Japan has such great music
Omg yay! I spend a lot of time discovering music from Japan, this is one of my playlists and the most Japanese love song I've ever heard, I know you will love it too. ruclips.net/video/lArSVRB3ewc/видео.html&index=4
I know that this comment will be lost in the comments section, but I would like to thank you for this video. Thank you ever so much for sharing your experience in Japan, you made us happy!
I don't know in how many years I will be able to visit Japan, but I damn sure will go back and watch all your informative videos right before I go. Love you guys!
Simon and Martina To be honest, as helpful as this video is, I would actually love to travel around japan with you guys. That would be pretty much my best experience ever.
this is the first ACTUALLY useful video i've found on japan for stuff that's like stuff you don't really think about but should - like the trash can and bathrooms. Very helpful!
The reason there are less trash cans in public in Tokyo now is because of the sarin gas attacks on the subways back in 1995. If you can believe it, I missed that by a mere 10 minutes on my way to school.
I’m going to Japan with a study abroad at my university and a group of us are getting there early to travel so I’m super glad you guys made this! I was really hoping you guys would since I watch y’all all the time! This was perfect and useful
OMG you guys just answered ALL of my questions in a single video (especially the public toilet and laptop/phone charging one)!! Bravo!! You now have a fan!
Thanks for giving tips. I have been binge watching tips for japan travel videos for the last year to prepare for my trip at the end of May. I haven’t been back in 11 years. The bathroom tip is something I didn’t hear much of. Also i like the train etiquette demonstration. I really don’t want to burden or offend locals while visiting. Thanks so much once again !
You guys. Your videos just keep getting better and better. Super happy for you two :) Thanks for this video, you included tips I wouldn't have thought of yet are so practical, thank you!
Great video! :D also Martina you look so fit right now! I really admire how you are improving your physical health after already being very inspiring when it comes to mental health! All the best :D
It'd be really cool if you guys did a small series where in each episode you visit a small lesser known town outside of the urban zones. I know Himeji is pretty close to Osaka (and Kobe), but that would be one example...okay it's not a town, but definitely a smaller city to highlight! I think there might be a portion of your audience that is interested in these smaller places a lot, so it'd be a treat for us :)
You two are hilarious! Subscribed. My friend recommended you guys to me and checked you guys out. I love the videos I have watched so far. My bf and I will be headed to Japan next month and I'm super excited. Trying to get as much tips and recommendations I can before we leave. 😅 -Rose
My husband and I are visiting this June and are considering living in Japan for a few months in the near future! I’ve been subscribed for a while now and always appreciate your videos. Thank you they are so helpful!! 💚
Martina you're so pwetty! Your legsss are so slim gurl! And Simon omg I'm really seeing your gainz bruh 😂 Btw I looove all the acting in this video! Really miss it from the old stuff you guise made back in korea! The part where the starbucks cup was giggling tho HAHAHAHAHAHA I bloody lost it
Also, I just want to add that drinking and eating on the trains/walking around is looked down upon, you may get a break if you look foreign, but its always nice to be polite. :) I've only been living in Japan for around 2 months now, but there are many social quirks to Japan that make run as smoothly and efficiently as possible. People consume their beverages/foods at the time of purchase or when they are no longer moving and not in the way. One of last things you want is to bump into someone with a hot drink in your hands. When you get starbucks to go they even put it in a bag for you to have later, not in a 'to go cup'. lol I was surprised the first time this happened to me.
The garbage cans next to vending machines are not meant to be general garbage cans. Your are supposed to consume your beverage and throw out only what was purchased from that particular vending machine. I have made that mistake myself a few times but was later corrected 😕
I got lost in Tokyo station a few years ago, but a really nice Japanese man walked me all the way to my platform, got on the train with me, hoped off and pointed me in the right direction. While we where on the train we started chatting and turned out HE WAS GOING THE COMPLETE OPPOSITE DIRECTION just to help me!! It was a 15 minute train ride!! Of course every second word I spoke was thank you after I found that out. Moral to the story, Japan was really fun!
5:49 I keep rewatching this section over and over for the following reasons: 1. Information 2. Martina's sick dance moves 3. Martina's knowledge that the trains are not gonna do what you want it to do 4. Simon's WTF reaction when the train just keeps going
I always wanted to go to japan it’s my dream thank you Simon and Martina for the tips. I really wanna go so badly for sushi and ramen. J world Pokémon center Disneyland japan and universal studios japan.
Love this!! My sisters and I explored shibuya and harujuku while on a layover and could not find a public restroom when we needed one. This video would've been so helpful then, but we're planning an actual trip to Japan next summer so I'm saving this video (and many others) in my playlist! And the trains were overwhelming at first, but Japanese people are so nice! They always pointed us in the right direction. Thanks for your videos! I love how you guys always give us your recommendations and tips.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it prohibited to eat & drink inside a regular train? And also another tip I got from other RUclipsr, if you can, get on a Shinkansen from Shinagawa station. Less crowded and also not as big and confusing as Tokyo Station 👍 Great video Simon & Martina! Very helpful & entertaining ❤️
redfish337 yes I that's true! If you don't have much things with you, boarding from Shinagawa is definitely the way to go. But if you really need the luggage space and have enough time to spare (in case of getting lost), boarding from Tōkyō station might better 👍
Eating & drinking on regular trains is NOT prohibited in Japan, but it is considered bad manner. Drinking plastic bottled drinks is ok. As for Shinagawa station, not all Shinkansen trains stop there, so be careful, it all depends on your destination.
My sister and I are going to Japan in October and we are SO EXCITED because it is our first trip together! Will be sure to share these tips with her :) :) Thanks Simon and Martina!
Ive missed these types of cultural learning videos so much!!! Love all your content, but wanted to express my thanks for making such a fun and informative video about the Japanese culture. Love you guys 💜💜
Simon, Martina, I absolutely LOVE your chose-your-own-adventure endings! Seriously brilliant. Don't stop. I have watched you for years and will be with you for years to come.
I'm going to Japan for the first time ever! ... in 2 weeks !!!! I'm a huge fan of you guys and this video definitely helps me out .. thanks for the advice
My dearest simon and martina. This is only my 2nd time commenting to your videos and i dont know what took me so long to do so. Ive known you since your early kpop music mondays and has been quietly supporting and watching your videos on the side. I have been telling about you to my friends and has been a topic of conversation so many times. Anywy, i am now in japan and i followed the “eat your kimchi” go to restuarants. I went to kichijoji just to try the satou cutlet. I am travelling solo and Your video on tips on how to survived japan saved me numerous times. The comfort rooms, mcdo charging stations, the no trash can rule...I am now in coco ichibanya, and thought i should thank you for all the hard work and effort and laughs you guys have been giving us. I just really want to thank you and know that you will always be an inspiration to all the nasties out there. God bless to you both. :)
wait..so you're telling me i shouldn't go around yelling at people, throwing stuff at civilians, and recording dead people in the suicide forest..?? NANI

Sorry, but this made me chuckle.
I am a Japanese 40yo born in Japan.
I have never heard that kind of thing in Japan before people shoot dead people and don’t do anything (call Kouban - police office or whatever)
And laughing while shooting that. I am shocked.
And I thought please this not gonna happen again in Japan same thing. Please please please 😞

The "nani" was great because I read it in an exaggerated alarmed tone.
I'm really enjoying these "Choose your own adventure" bits at the end lol good stuff. I'm really glad you guys made this video! I would love to see more travel tips for people who want to visit Japan!

Find you someone that looks at you the way Simon looks at his empty Starbucks cup.
CupofTJ I'm dead💀💀💀
Ironically?
🤣
You can see how much effort they put into this video.
Can I also say you are the freaking cutest couple alive. I mean Damn!
Well, this didn't age well. 😅
I really love the "choose your own adventure" extras!
The no garbage can struggle is real. I remember it well.
Unrelated but I'm so happy to be watching you guys again
하나Hana Martina looks incredible!
keep up the good work

Hilda Bernhardsson It's not free, because often people make a mess and it's really hard to clean up. So most "cleaner" restrooms have a little fee to pay :)
Actually, it is technically free. The lady asked for a (semi-mandatory) tip, lol. Most people give 20-50 cents.

私は英語が全く話せないのですが、この2人のやり取りやしっかり情報を伝えようとする意思を感じるので大好きです。いつも楽しみにしています。
LOVE IT!! Please create lots of video about Japan! I know many RUclipsrs have created so much videos about Japan but HEY, its you. Its Simon and Martina, of course it'll be in another level. Keep going, fellas! Love you.
From your Indonesian Nasty!
Wanda Nurwanda And they totally thought of things I hadn’t seen other RUclipsrs mention before!
Also, NOTIFICATION SQUAD! Please tell me what your public bathrooms are like, IN GREAT DETAIL!
Simon and Martina Don't puke out your food 😂

Going to Japan in a month can not thank you enough for the Tokyo station-time management advice
Definitely gonna also check your blog for this as well when it's not 1am
Yeah man. Tokyo station is no joke. We always get there super early and barely make it on time for our bullet train.
Martina- I don’t know what it is but you look so HAPPY in this video! It makes me happy to see you smiling and dancing around knowing that you’re in pain so often. You’re such an inspiration! 💕

Oh my gosh. The whole Starbucks scene though 😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣ugh I love it.
Love you guys! Simon is hilarious as ever and I clicked on Martina’s video first 😂❤️
Victoria Hoffman I clicked on her video 1st too. 😅
Awww yissssss, my dose of Simon and Martina is finally here.

ONE DAY!!!!!!! I will make it to Japan one day and I'll follow these tips, till then I have the wonderful Simon and Martina!!!! Lots of love xx
People in Japan basically do not eat and drink while walking, so there is no problem without trash can.

Notification squad!!! Thanks for these tips simon and martina!!!
Fries with bolognaise sauce and cheese would be called an Italian poutine in Quebec. It is sinfully awesome 🤤
In May we are coming to Japan!! You two are so super helpfull!
Why are you guys just the most legit and helpful Japan travel channel. I watch travel videos all the time and I just watched this and learned like 5 new things. Keep up the awesome videos!

omg rt about the garbage cans, I literally had to hold on to my tako yaki box for a good 2 hours walking along the streets in osaka
You can usually find garbage bins in the convenient stores too. Those are everywhere.
Dunno whats with the big deal about the garbage. Just toss it anywhere...
You need to get slapped. Only people who weren't raised right do that.
chigasaki06 what a pleasant. So you don't think it's an issue with no garbage cans around? Use your brain.

No comments are lost here. We read them all. Thank you for the lovely words :)
I don't know in how many years I will be able to visit Japan, but I damn sure will go back and watch all your informative videos right before I go. Love you guys!
Oh my God yes I'm going to watch this before I go to school
Thanks guys, I am gonna try to go to the 2020 olympics so this is very helpful.
OH YES! I really want to be here for the Olympics!
Simon and Martina To be honest, as helpful as this video is, I would actually love to travel around japan with you guys. That would be pretty much my best experience ever.
Simon don't be sad that you don't have friends you have martina
The cup part of this video was hilarious! You guys are so creative!
this is the first ACTUALLY useful video i've found on japan for stuff that's like stuff you don't really think about but should - like the trash can and bathrooms. Very helpful!
The reason there are less trash cans in public in Tokyo now is because of the sarin gas attacks on the subways back in 1995. If you can believe it, I missed that by a mere 10 minutes on my way to school.
Haven't seen the video but already liked, love this channel keep it up ❤
We'll keep making videos if you keep watching them :D
considering I'm gonna be there next week, this came at a very good time.
I really love watching your guys stuff it's like traveling but without leaving the house
I’m going to Japan with a study abroad at my university and a group of us are getting there early to travel so I’m super glad you guys made this! I was really hoping you guys would since I watch y’all all the time! This was perfect and useful
Always so excited to see the notification that a new video is up! 💕💕
When I travel in Japan, I was really impressed even there is no garbage can anywhere but streets were so so clean!!!
OMG you guys just answered ALL of my questions in a single video (especially the public toilet and laptop/phone charging one)!! Bravo!! You now have a fan!
These bonus rounds are amazing you guys! Perfect quality and quantity right here :D
Met you two at Circus Tokyo a year ago, thanks for a fun vid brought back good memories!
Super happy for you two :)
Thanks for this video, you included tips I wouldn't have thought of yet are so practical, thank you!
I want to go to Japan so badly and I'll definitely be following your tips and suggestions from all your other videos 😄😄
I love how you guys always wear matching outfits!
Bless you guys for posting this video 5 days before I'm coming to Japan! I have been before but never to Tokyo, awesome advise guys thank you so much!
Always love you guys and your videos! You always brighten up my day :3
HAHAHAHA I laughed SO much with this video XD
You two are hilarious! Subscribed. My friend recommended you guys to me and checked you guys out. I love the videos I have watched so far. My bf and I will be headed to Japan next month and I'm super excited. Trying to get as much tips and recommendations I can before we leave. 😅 -Rose
Wonderful! Welcome to our channel, and please thank your friend on our behalf :)
My husband and I are visiting this June and are considering living in Japan for a few months in the near future! I’ve been subscribed for a while now and always appreciate your videos. Thank you they are so helpful!! 💚
I'm building my trip on your videos. This is very very very helpful! Thank you so much!!!
new eat your kimchi video!!! so excited! :) :)
I'll mourn that starbucks cup.
How can Japan be so clean and have so little trash cans on the street? That amuses me...
Martina you're so pwetty! Your legsss are so slim gurl! And Simon omg I'm really seeing your gainz bruh 😂 Btw I looove all the acting in this video! Really miss it from the old stuff you guise made back in korea! The part where the starbucks cup was giggling tho HAHAHAHAHAHA I bloody lost it
Y'all should also mention there are two metro systems in Tokyo. It was fun getting lost around that. Glad the locals are so nice to everyone.
Thank God for these tips!!!
I cannot stress the bullet train tip enough as a local.
Right?! Thank you for chiming in! :)
Yeah, nicer than me for sure. I'm always too cheap to even leave the ticket gate when helping people, let alone go that far. =P
5:49 I keep rewatching this section over and over for the following reasons:
1. Information
2. Martina's sick dance moves
3. Martina's knowledge that the trains are not gonna do what you want it to do
4. Simon's WTF reaction when the train just keeps going
Simon's Japanese accent is adorable lmao. I want to ear Martina's now !
I always wanted to go to japan it’s my dream thank you Simon and Martina for the tips. I really wanna go so badly for sushi and ramen. J world Pokémon center Disneyland japan and universal studios japan.
I hope you get the chance to visit one day! And you'll just love Disneyland and Universal. They were AWESOME!!!
Simon, you’re good at speaking Japanese!
Going to Tokyo and Kyoto for the first time in July! I can't wait!!!!
Surfing Martina is the best
YOU GUYS ARE AMAZING!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it prohibited to eat & drink inside a regular train? And also another tip I got from other RUclipsr, if you can, get on a Shinkansen from Shinagawa station. Less crowded and also not as big and confusing as Tokyo Station 👍
Great video Simon & Martina! Very helpful & entertaining ❤️
I said the Shinagawa thing too... but the caveat to that the people that board in Tokyo get dibs on the luggage areas.
redfish337 yes I that's true! If you don't have much things with you, boarding from Shinagawa is definitely the way to go. But if you really need the luggage space and have enough time to spare (in case of getting lost), boarding from Tōkyō station might better 👍
Eating and drinking inside a Shinkansen is fine. (:
diana rz how about regular train?
Garbage can? no results :D :D :D
8:46 my koreaboo ass went "I NEED YOU GIRL, WAE HONJA SARANGHAGO--"
yes i love bts i am army and proud
Went to Korea twice! Both times watched ur videos before hand to check out the same places!! Now we are going to Japan, so here I am taking notes
Simon, Martina, I absolutely LOVE your chose-your-own-adventure endings! Seriously brilliant. Don't stop. I have watched you for years and will be with you for years to come.
I'd love to visit someday but my Japanese is very very limited, how easy would it be to navigate without speaking much of the language?
Nathan Colglazier good question :) IMPORTANT! UP UP
Okay, but Simon looks so hot in this, idk why particularly why
Timothy Cook it's the jacket. And the Simon.
